Burger and sweet potato fries
Jack W.

Decided to give these mouth breathers another chance after getting food poisoning from them before....BIG MISTAKE! Should point again, yes, I got food poisoning from them last time. Ya might think, "Why ya going back to them?", like I said, 2nd chance and all. This time I ordered their Perfect Burger (btw...not perfect...not even close). I ordered ahead of time, running a few errands and when I got to the restaurant they were still working on it. Fine, so I sit at the bar, right by their expo station. The incompetent woman working that station was letting what looked to be my burger and other people's to-go orders just sit in the window, unwrapped. The genius who owns this place apparently decided not to put in food warmers in his expo station....so I got a cold burger and cold sweet potato fries. I pointed this out to the manager and made him aware that the last time I got food poisoning and his response....didn't take responsibility AT ALL! No offer of refund, no nothing. To the manager's meager credit, he did order a re-fire on my order. That being said, when I got it home (10 min drive) fries were cold, burger barely warm and completely lacking in flavor. Folks, if you read my reviews on the regular, ya know I'm not a Karen, I'm not a complainer customer. If I give a bad review it's cuz the business DESERVED IT and cuz IT WAS BAD! I'm a chef by trade and been in the business a 22+ years, and I get it, food service is tough; but guess what? That doesn't mean you'll get an automatic pass from me when ya drop the ball, in the case TWICE! Bottom line , don't here or any of their locations. Crappy food, crappy service...

Town Hall Grill Burger & Sweet Potato Fries

Went on a weekday afternoon and received our food extremely quickly. I believe our waiter was named Ryan(?) and he was the main reason why it was so pleasant to eat out. His enthusiasm and attitude were amazing and his recommendations were great as well. I got sweet potato fries that were cooked perfectly, not at all soggy. I also got the Townhall burger, which was pretty good, but I felt like the bacon definitely was overpowering (that just my weird taste), if you like bacon, that's definitely a burger for you. I am a little disappointed that the burgers are around $15 (on the cheaper side of the menu) and in order to get another side you're charged another $1.50. So it definitely loses a star for being so expensive for what it is. Burgers and fries. Overall, I definitely come back but probably for more special occasions. The place was clean and we were in and out in 40mins! (On a Wednesday)

Breakfast burger with a gluten-free bun and house potatoes- $14.00

So, 4 stars because the folks I was with had a great meal and would recommend. And they are mostly trustworthy people. The service was slow, and our server was not the sharpest crayon in the box, had a hard time understanding gluten-free options , or the kitchen was very unclear with him on options, which are both disconcerting. See picture on what $14 bucks gets you.

A friend introduced me to the Town Hall Grill a few weeks ago. I am glad that she did. I am smitten with the pineapple side down cake here. You have to try this dessert! It's is everything! I have also enjoyed the chicken wings, and the tater tots loaded with cheese, sour creams and pulled bbq. My orders have been served fresh and in a timely manner. I appreciate the attention to detail that the kitchen crew uses when preparing orders. I enjoy the environment of the location. The decor is complete with UNC memorabilia and the customer service is great here! The employees do a wonderful job at making customers feel welcomed. I've enjoyed each of my servers when I have visited this location (Matilda is pretty awesome!) Thank you to the Town Hall Grill for being a welcoming local restaurant. This place is now in my "don't feel cooking" rotation.

Nachos

Our waiter, Alex, couldn't have made our visit more fun! Welcoming, nice, humorous, and answered all our questions as first time guests. We both enjoyed our meals. I had the nachos for lunch, which is definitely more than I could eat. My spouse really like the fish, but not as crazy about the fries that have a coating on them and the slaw is blah with a funky flavor. We'll return again to see how their burgers compare to their sister place, Town Hall Burger.

What a great hidden gem. Excellent wait staff great atmosphere everyone was friendly. The food was impeccable. Stopped over for a pregame meal headed to see the tar heels play. I recommend this spot for anyone who needs a quick meal or wants to sit down and enjoy themselves

I love a good sports bar and grill, and THG had everything just right. The wings were flavorful and cooked perfectly, the beers were cold, the outdoor seating was plentiful and they were playing both the World Cup and then the UNC game too. I would definitely go back here to watch a game or just relax with friends. Great service all around despite being completely swamped with patrons.

The star of the show in my opinion were the hush puppies and the corn and wild mushroom risotto. There were sooo many different flavors that perfectly complemented each other. I was blown away. And the pig cheek on top was incredible. 500/10. Our server made great recommendations! Then-- chaos and heartbreak ensued in the form of a fire alarm. We were forced to evacuate the restaurant as the fire department arrived , leaving about half our meal on the table. After 30 or so minutes of waiting out in the cold (we were apparently the only guests who hadn't paid out yet) our server came to find us. He asked us if we wanted to just give him our credit card information and he would ring us up later, when the fire department gave them the ok, as he understood not wanting to wait around. It broke our heart to leave our leftovers, but we agreed and went to go get the car. Thankfully we are stubborn.. and optimistic to a fault. And by the third time we circled around the block, the fire truck was pulling away. I ran in and asked if there was any chance our food hadn't been thrown away yet, and it hadn't! The staff was happy we had been able to come back, and they packed everything up for us, even taking the hush puppies off the bill and sneaking in a complimentary piece of key lime pie. I'm so glad we were able to tip our server appropriately for his great service-- and rescue our leftovers. Happy ending. All was well. (And the fire ended up being something innocuous in the unit above the restaurant)

I got the two empanadas with aside and was able to try both the chicken and the pork. I think I liked the chicken a little bit more, but both of them were very good and the plantains were also very good. Not overly sweet, but also not super dry. I will say the parking is kind of annoying without parking space directly nearby. Had to park in the parking garage across the street. The server was very nice and mindful of waters and when we needed things. I will say almost $20 for a regular dish seemed very expensive but the food was pretty good so I would probably come back - just for the cheaper empanadas as they were pretty filling as it was. The one thing that kind of threw me off was how they set the table with their water cups upside down, touching the table. I wouldn't say that I'm a clean freak, but also that seems kind of gross to me because that's where my mouth is going to be... I'd probably do something different there myself. This definitely is more of a Chapel Hill / Carrboro money type of dining experience $$ but I'd be back on nicer occasions. The pastry on the empanadas were very good. Really liked the yuca Frits as well

Already being on Franklin Street, I knew that wouldn't be a problem, and I decided to just pop into this Carolina Brewery location (I think their main one) because it was convenient. The inside is a beautiful mix of wood and metals with different levels, an interesting bar configuration and plenty of TVs. I took a seat at the bar and received excellent service, and enjoyed conversation about sports, beer, and food with a couple of other gentlemen sitting close by. The only snafu of the meal was the tea got dumped (close to closing) after I got my first glass but before I got a refill. They replaced it with another drink of course, but that was good tea! I ordered the shrimp and grits with tempered expectation, but will summarily say they were exceeded. This was a really nice sized portion of thick creamy grits, a total of 8 VERY plump shrimp, enough salty bacon and onion to balance it out. Each bite was well balanced, and while it can't compare to anything I've had out in the low country by the coast, it was better than I hope for this spot and time. If I had to suggest an improvement, it could use an element with a subtle sweetness, like roasted or blistered sweet corn shaved off the cob. I also would like the sauce more pronounced, or even a red-eye gravy. I wouldn't call it dry, but it could have benefited. That would take it onto another level. Anyhow, I enjoyed the meal and friendly conversation. I would certainly return next time I'm in Chapel Hill.

Everyone else in the dinner party that had not eaten the muscles was fine. The service staff was over-extended. We had to ask the busing staff to get our waiter so that we could order and later in the meal to refresh our beverages. And finally, our dinner party was seated in the very furtherest back room that features an exit door with a large lit up exit sign over it. The room was not really fit to seat people at that price point. There are no sound buffers in the back room. It is akin to a large storage area with artwork on the wallks. There was no way to hear anyone talking at the table due to the roar of the sound bouncing off the walls. The room should not be used for seating at Tandem's price point. The menu prices seemed a tiny bit high until I read the note that the restaurants had raised the menu prices to make gratuity "truly optional," so that's totally fine. We started off our meal with some complimentary bread, which was honestly pretty mediocre. It was a very tiny portion and the accompanying olive oil just tasted like... olive oil. It felt like the bread was store-bought or something, which isn't the end of the world, but combined with the portion size, it was just a little surprising for a nice restaurant. For my entree, I got the steak frites, and they were very good! The steak was cooked medium rare as requested. I also got some truffle aioli on the side (suggested by the food busser!) and it was pretty tasty too. My wife got the beet and kale lasagna and she really enjoyed it, although it wasn't really enough food as an entree :) Beer selection was OK but nothing crazy good. I asked for the non-alcoholic IPA and they were out of it, which was kind of a bummer. Also, when we were paying our bill, the automated system still asked us for a gratuity without any warning about the gratuity being baked into the menu prices, so that was a little surprising but not a huge deal. I enjoy cheese plates, and this one was great, but I can understand it may not be for everyone. My wife ordered the Red Fish, which had a more Southeast Asian-inspired twist to it. It came over rice and pickled onions and beets, and the flavors were a blend of lemongrass and coconut. The fish was cooked well - nice and tender, not too dry - and the flavors went well together. I ordered the New York Strip, which was delicious - the meat was well cooked, had great flavor, and was a generous portion that was very filling. The only gripe I had was that the char on the eggplant overwhelmed the flavor, so most of what I ate tasted like burnt eggplant. The place is clean and fairly laid back for a more upscale restaurant.
