The sprouts were especially memorable with their combination of preserved lemon vinaigrette, fried leeks, bacon, and a sweet/spicy aïoli--an unexpected mix of flavors that worked beautifully together. The ambiance felt fresh and inviting, which I appreciated--especially because there were no lingering bar or leftover food odors that sometimes affect restaurant spaces. The staff was welcoming and pleasant, offering friendly interaction while also giving guests the space to relax and enjoy their meal. Grabbed dinner from here and had a good experience. First, my wife and I were seated immediately without having a reservation, but we ate dinner pretty early :) Our server was attentive and polite throughout our meal, but he didn't have a ton of positive energy, if that makes sense. The menu prices seemed a tiny bit high until I read the note that the restaurants had raised the menu prices to make gratuity "truly optional," so that's totally fine. We started off our meal with some complimentary bread, which was honestly pretty mediocre. It was a very tiny portion and the accompanying olive oil just tasted like... olive oil. It felt like the bread was store-bought or something, which isn't the end of the world, but combined with the portion size, it was just a little surprising for a nice restaurant. For my entree, I got the steak frites, and they were very good! The steak was cooked medium rare as requested. I also got some truffle aioli on the side (suggested by the food busser!) and it was pretty tasty too. My wife got the beet and kale lasagna and she really enjoyed it, although it wasn't really enough food as an entree :) Beer selection was OK but nothing crazy good. I asked for the non-alcoholic IPA and they were out of it, which was kind of a bummer. Also, when we were paying our bill, the automated system still asked us for a gratuity without any warning about the gratuity being baked into the menu prices, so that was a little surprising but not a huge deal. The owners of this establishment have been very professional, accommodating, and extremely communicative. Okay you guys. We have now eaten here twice. Once in the spring and then more recently when we moved our daughter in for her sophomore year at UNC. This restaurant is tucked away on a side street so that you will miss it if you're not careful. That would be a tragedy. The atmosphere is delightfully cozy and the service is second to none. We sat outdoors both visits, but the indoor seating is super nice as well. Also unique is that this is a no tip required restaurant. They pay their staff a living wage, so you do have an option to pay a tip on your check but I believe 7 - 9% is the highest you can leave. On to the good stuff....at our last visit, we ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon Wontons. The only problem I had with these is there weren't enough!! OMG they were so good! For our entrees, we ordered the Hangar Steak, the Red Drum, and the Crab Cake. All three were absolutely amazing and beautifully plated! Our server was Lydia and she was incredible. So personable and very attentive and prompt. We also ordered two desserts...the creme brulee and then some sort of chocolate thing (I can't for the life of me remember the name of it). Suffice to say that they were both divine and not a morsel remained of either!! This will be a fave of ours in the Carrboro area going forward. Decided to check out Glasshalfull after hearing about it on social media. It is a cool and chill spot sporting tons of tables, a wrap around bar, and a massive wine selection. I checked out their menu ahead of time and decided to go for their mini burgers that had bacon and truffle aoili. It was just the right amount of food! I ate just one, but I will be devouring the other in like an hour as I am a grazer! To drink I got a bottle of their cremant rose. Nice hint of strawberries, peaches, and rose. It was very yummy and actually paired really well the burgers. Normally I do not get a bottle of wine just for me at a restaurant, but they were half off today and I decided to go for it! Such a great recommendation by the waitress. I love that they are able to recork the bottle, so you can take it home. Therefore there is no pressure to finish it! Around it are several other local businesses to check out. Carrboro's downtown very much reminds me of Pittsboro as it is very quaint and cute. Definitely would come back as it is very chill and has such great vibes! read more

Expect small portions of food that is absolutely packed full of unique, bright, and delicious flavor. All of the food was so flavorful with surprising pairings that made us wanting more. You do have to expect small amounts of food but it is enough if you get app+meal. Would be a 5 star no doubt if the portions were a bit larger and I didn't need a snack afterwards. The flavors are very off, the execution is terrible. i got the duck confit. the bean stew that came with it was too holiday-ish, sweet spices that don't match the duck. the duck confit, surprisingly dry. confit, by the technique, always comes out juicy. i don't know how they managed to dry it out. and it was terribly not brown, not crisp. the sweet potato stew was just a mushy plate. oh, that bean stew, they also serve it as one of the veggie dishes, kind of a mc donalds treatment, adding fries to burger or selling it alone. that place needs to be closed so that young and creative chefs can find space. read more

The ambiance was great. Unfortunately the Ribeye on the steak Frites selection is cut extremely thin. It was difficult to cook it to the right temperature and my wife had to return her stick to different times before they got it right. Miranda is super wine smart. As a sommelier, and a former teacher of wine appreciation classes at Total Wine, I know. She makes her customers, or at least me and my sister feel special. I asked about 2 wines. She brought me 3 to taste. Above and beyond. We had short ribs, polenta and glazed carrots for our main, and pate for our appetizer. Came here based on Yelp and TripAdvisor recommendations for a date night with the hubby. Absolutely love this place. The restaurant was extremely easy to find, right off the main road. Ample parking in front and around the side and back. Walked in, immediately greeted by the front personnel and seated without any wait; granted, it was about 6:30pm and ahead of the dinner rush - by the time we left, the place was very busy. The atmosphere was what i want to call "upscale industrial." Mirrors, brick, unfinished wood laid the foundation, with clean modern furniture in the foreground. One can't help but notice the abundant collection of French, Italian, etc. wines that lined the far right wall. Glasshalfull's premise is smaller plated dishes, doing away with the traditional appetizer/entree method. We started with some cocktails; very refreshing, and tried their blueberry salad and cucumber avocado soup. The blueberry salad was a fantastic medley of flavors, from the vinaigrette to the sweeter, subtle blueberries with a sharper feta cheese. They mixed wonderfully. The cucumber avocado soup, served cold, was also refreshing but not a fully satisfying flavor in my opinion. Additionally, we got the charcuterie, which was a mix of different cured meats served with a grain mustard, a fruit compote, and bread (Crostini). Incredible. The combination of each element put together was surprisingly delicious: salty meat, spicy (fantastic) mustard, sweet fruit... and texture-wise, you've got a smoother, creamier meat that was well-complemented by the harder crunch of the crostini. We then went with their "Fritto Misto" for the husband, essentially fried seafood/calamari style, which by itself and a spritz of lemon was light, crispy, and AMAZING. I had the 1855 Angus Skirt Steak, served medium - i don't know what is in that demi-glace, but that plus the shallot butter over the meat was just mouthwatering. I savored every bite, and it paired nicely with the glass of Malbec I had. This was definitely a treat for the palate. We had a great adventure of mixing flavors and elements together, really amplifying the overall flavor of the dishes. Though their servings are small (for the price), this was definitely not an endeavor of stuffing your face but rather an exploration of flavor. Not exactly an every night occurrence for our triple digit bill (for the two of us), but definitely a great date night locale with a pleasant, upscale, and romantic atmosphere. read more

Must get the roasted Brussels sprouts!!! The first time I went we got a whiff of it from the table next to us and we had to get it. It was the best decision. It's packed with so much flavor. The sauce was amazingly soaked into the veggie and the honey taste with the crunch of the nuts completed it. I highly recommend this. The first time my friends and I came with a wine in hand. The corkage fee is just $8 which is way better than the markups from restaurant wines. They also have a wine store that you can choose from and bring it straight to your table. My mom was in town on a Monday night and a lot of the nice restaurants are closed, so I was psyched that not only was Glasshalfull open, but all their wine bottles were half off! The deal applies to their entire wine list and they have some good wines. I also like that for some types of wine you can do a flight. Their outdoor area is nice. Half of it is more covered and protected--enough that we were able to stay outside even in a torrential downpour. The inside is pretty chic too, and includes seats at the bar, tables/booths, and a wine store. The food was delicious but the portions are pretty small. We got the scallops (comes with about 5) and the crab cake. The pairing of vegetables with the scallops was just perfect, but there wasn't much that came with the crab cake. Definitely a good place to bring kids but still have a nice dinner. Had a very California feel to it - being casual but still gourmet. There were several folks with young kids there so it seems to sort of have this reputation maybe. Still couldn't take a cranky kid there, but if you're looking for somewhere with high quality food and can't get a sitter, or don't want to, check this place out. I had the pork tenderloin and the best part of this dish was actually the accompaniment to the protein. The type of meal where new and interesting flavors are created and surprise you. I think Glasshalfull is suffering from an identity crisis. Part of it seems like it wants to be a Carrboro chic wine bar that would be best served by a small but tastefully selected tapas menu...the other part wants to be a super fancy 5-star restaurant, the kind with artfully presented fancy dishes in multiple courses. Unfortunately, these don't coincide very well. The food just didn't cut it for me for the price. The plates are incredibly expensive for the serving that you get - and I was missing some sort of explosive or interesting flavor to make up for that. We tried the pumpkin zeppole - it was a nice appetizer but a little bland (I blame the gluten-free breading). The crab cakes were not that great and too done on the outside, served on a lackluster bed of slaw salad. On the upside - The service was really wonderful from start to finish. I really like the fritto misto plate because it fit what I needed for the evening - something tasty, light, but still balanced with protein/vegetables. It could have used a little "oomph" though. The wine was wonderful, and I loved the option to try 2-3oz pours as a flight. This is the place to go to try out a different wine than you normally would. Overall, a great option if you want to get a glass of high quality wine and perhaps a side (the brussels looked great). However, for dinner I might venture elsewhere in Carrboro. read more

I've never been treated with such rudeness, distain and utter lack of kindness as on my visit to Glasshalfull on June 22. I'd made a reservation on Resy for my daughter and me for 5:15pm. When I arrived I was the only person in the restaurant except for two women in a booth. I stood and waited several minutes for the hostess to appear and she then led me to a small table along a banquet lined with many other empty tables. Wanting some coziness and privacy I asked if we could please have one of the many empty booths. She refused stating that they were for larger parties or had been requested. Well, I was requesting, and since there were at least 20+ empty tables I thought it was a reasonable request. She again refused. When I politely asked again she went to get her manager, who looked around at the empty restaurant and unkindly said NO I could not have a booth. At that point my daughter arrived, and she and I agreed that we did not want to be treated as though they did not want our business, so we left. We drove up the street to Venable Restaurant, were greeted kindly and with a smile, and though there were other diners there and we had no reservation, we were seated at a nice table (for four), and then enjoyed an excellent dinner with smiling and thoughtful service. As a longtime resident of the Carrboro area I will never go back to Glasshalfull. The previous owners would never had treated a customer in the way my daughter and I were. I'll also advise anyone I know to not give them any business. read more
