This place is super cute!!!!! I was a group of friends at another bar that doesn't serve food, so I knew I needed to have something on my stomach before consuming libations! When you walk in, you grab a menu at the door - order at the bar - and have a seat! I could not tell you what I ordered, I took the bartender's recommendation (since it was my first time there) I can't remember the name (I think it's called Mollette or something close to that - sorry), but it was like chicken tacos in bread (if that makes sense). You can order another meat type, I just ordered the chicken! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!! And the ladies that were working the bar - GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I will definitely go back again! read more

The atmosphere here is great--low-key and very inviting. Unfortunately, the dining experience didn't match the vibe. Despite the nice presentation, my burger fell short of expectations. It took a while to arrive, and when it did, the fries were cold and heavily salted, while the burger was only lukewarm. I ordered the patty medium, but it was served well-done. I love this spot! I would have hung out here for hours if I didn't have my 17 year old nephew with me. It's family friendly if you're coming to eat there, which is a great choice. It also seems to be a cool bar scene. My nephew says it's "hipster" but I don't even know what that means anymore. Point is, seems like a fun place to chill. The food was fantastic! They had a great cheeseburger for my nephew and healthy options for me. Their kale salad was legit! The bowl with grains and root vegetables was really good. This is far above average for bar food so it truly and equally is a restaurant. I didn't try a cocktail because we were taking our food to go. read more

I looked at Google Maps to find a place we could walk to from the DPAC as we wanted to park for a show, walk to dinner, and then walk back to the DPAC to enjoy the show. Queeny's checked all the boxes!! We enjoyed great craft beers and amazing burgers. I like that you order at the bar and then they bring the food to the table. I loved the whole vibe of the place. The bartenders were nice, the place was clean, and the food and drinks were delicious. I'd definitely go back, even if I wasn't going to the DPAC. read more

Great customer service! The staff are very friendly. I asked for a recommendation and they asked me questions to narrow their recommendation down. The Halloween Decorations were great. The background music was at the perfect volume. Loud enough to hear, but low enough to converse. The Braised Short Rib Sandwich w/ Brussel Sprout Slaw was the staff recommendation. The short rib was juicy and tender. The slaw added an earthy element to the sandwich. RECOMMENDATION: serving this sandwich with an au jus would add a savory element to the sandwich read more

Stopped by for lunch on a Friday afternoon. There was a decent sized amount of people eating inside and outside. We tried the tenders and chicken salad sandwich, both were very good. What a fun place before a show at The Carolina Theater. Quick and delicious. Chicken was excellent and the bite of the burger I had was outstanding. Solid Pimm's Cup. Order at the bar much like a British pub. The server who took our order was knowledgeable and sweet with lots of patience for first timers. SOLID burger joint in Durham. Got the cheeseburger (1/2 pound chuck and short rib, American cheese, chipotle mayo, lettuce, onions, butter pickles) with bacon. The burger patty was thick, but it was cooked to perfection (minimal pink) and was super juicy. The brioche bun was soft and lightly toasted. Only knock was they "forgot" one of our five burgers. It was not brought out for over 30 minutes after everyone got their burgers- and they gave us one free drink (think a round for the table would've been more appropriate, or a credit for the burger). Will definitely return here again though for a burger. read more

I love a spot that is open late night, has good food, drinks and vibes. Queeny's has all of the above. I appreciated that the menu is pretty straight forward and there are plenty of vegetarian options. The falafel pita was pretty good. It was a decent size and flavorful. My friend enjoyed the birria dip sandwich. The local craft beers on draft were good. They also have a solid line up of cocktails and a standard wine list. I love the ambiance in there. Eclectic and hipster is how I would describe Queeny's in downtown Durham. It's a few blocks from D-PAC, Durham Bulls Athletic Park and American Tobacco Campus. My son and I stopped in the other day to grab an early dinner prior to going to the Durham Bulls (Rays affiliate) - Scranton Railriders (Yankees affiliate) game. The atmosphere is pretty good as is ok, nothing special. The service was quick. You order at the bar and seat yourself. We both went with the cheeseburger and also got an order of nachos. Everything came out together. Maybe the kitchen forgot to prep the nachos first. The burgers were okay, nothing special. The buns were fairly large though. Like I said the food was fine and it is a cool place to stop in for a drink or a quick bite to eat. If Yelp had a sliding scale I'd give it a 3.5 - 3.75 rating. I've been to Queeny's twice, both times for lunch, and gosh, I just love it there! The food is great, but my favorite thing about the restaurant is the atmosphere. I grew up in Durham and spent most of my adult life living in the city, and it's hard for me to imagine a restaurant feeling more "Durham" than Queeny's has managed to do. It's super relaxed, inviting, comfortable, hip but not pretentious, and community-focused. There has clearly been a lot of thought put into every detail, including comfy booths, a reading room for children; clean, eco-minded, gender-neutral restrooms; and a free podcast recording space that is available to any local who signs up for a slot. As for the food, I've enjoyed everything I've tried. Their burger and fries are a really solid choice, as is the chicken salad sandwich (it does have a lot of mayo so if that isn't your thing, you may want to try something else on the menu). And I love their fried pickle spears - the breading is super crunchy and delicious. Service has always been friendly and helpful. read more

1st Timer: The hype was true! I have been aching to visit Queeny's for over a year now. Friends have raved about the place. So, you know I had to put it on my list. By a stroke of luck, I happened to be in the area and found a parking spot in front of the place. I was getting a bit hangry, so it was definitely in the cards. Walking in, I caught such a fragrant vibration. Queeny's has an authentic bohemian vibe -- warm and comfortable elements in all the right places; from the inviting decor...the wall graffiti...and all-the-way to the cool, smooth music that was constantly languishing from their perfectly balanced sound system throughout the space. The layout is open and spacious. Awesomely great service. I was treated with much kindness and patience since it was my first time there. Very clean, including the bathrooms (of course I checked folks...lol)! There is outdoor seating in the front and the rear with plans for expanding the rear patio area. So, room for everyone! So now, what you've all been waiting for...the piece de resistance...the food! First & foremost, I kinda cheated with this one. I've heard that the Burger and Nachos were the bees knees up in here, sooooo....you know I had to get it, right!? Ohh. Myy. Gosshh! Folks, let me tell you! That medium-cooked cheeseburger nestled within that soft, toasted brioche bun, literally melted in my mouth! I have expletives that I can't even bring to discernable syllables right now. Incredible, will have to do. The Nachos and spicy queso (hidden menu item) is spot-on as well. Another thing...they don't play with your food either. Portions are nice! I could only eat half of my meal, and I'm a pretty hefty fellow. So, say hello to a nice 'midnight snacky-snack for me later on tonight! Lucky me, right...Hahhh! The atmosphere was very welcoming but I believe there should be a more equally spaced seating arrangement due to the fact that not everyone is equal in size and as I do not expect the establishment to account for the individuals allowed inside I do anticipate that patrons should feel comfortable inside so they can enjoy the experience and I will not be returning for that matter alone. It took over 30min for my burger which is not too bad considering how busy the staff was and I'm a patient fellow but I'd rather not have my personal space violated while I'm waiting. read more

I'm so surprised Queeny's doesn't have a higher rating! I would highly recommend to anyone visiting. I've gone the past two times I've been in Durham and loved the vibes each time. Every person that works there is pleasant and the food is sooo good. The chicken crispers are a must. All the sauces are house made I"(I think or at least it tastes like it) and are great as well. The spot is very casual and even the wine doesn't come in actual wine glasses (but for some reason I'm ok with it, which is not like me). I love that they have a TV but cover it with an art piece at the bar and only have it on for VERY special occasions, my cousin said he's seen in on maybe twice and he's lived there for almost 10 years. I also saw a reading room and even a podcast recording studio, all visible if you're sitting at the bar. 10/10 would recommend for the great food (the French dip birria is also very good/unique) and fab vibes! We stopped in for a cheeseburger and some fried pickles. The burger was less than stellar. The word bland sums it up. There was just nothing of note. Shocking for a place that is known for its burgers. The fried pickles were a huge failure. Whole spears? Who does that? They need to be pickle chips. Well-dried so the batter sticks. There's several things I like about Queeny's. I've been here multiple times. Here is my list of pros: 1. Food is delicious. I've tried several things on the menu. It's probably one of the best burgers I've had in Durham. 2. Cool ambiance 3. Kind and quick service Here are my cons: 1. It's usually pretty loud inside. So that makes it difficult to talk. 2. When you order a beer, you don't get a regular sized beer like everywhere else in Durham. But they charge the same price as everyone else who gives a regular sized beer. 3. It's pretty expensive. We didn't grab much for dinner and spent $55. read more

Ummm, how to start. Good: well actually the food was great. Very tasty burger, hot fries, and the chicken strips were AWESOME! The drinks were delicious, I had the apple jacquiri. The not so good: well it is a "bar" and you order at the counter. But I found the bartender not very pleasant. I felt as if I was bothering him, like he didn't want to be there. However I'm trying to keep it in perspective of what it's trying to be, a dive bar with hella good food. I'll be back for sure with lower expectations for a smile. What's not to love about this bar/restaurant? It's comfortable, welcoming, friendly, open almost all the time (10:45a to 2am), and the chicken salad sandwich alone deserves 10 stars. Next to the Durham Hotel, you walk in, grab a menu by the door, and sit wherever you want. Tables, bar, high seats, couch... Order at the bar and they give you a number for your food. Cocktails and wine are $10 each. I was happy with my Chardonnay and Husband liked his Rusty Rascal. Thinking we weren't that hungry, we decided to try their Chicken Salad Sandwich. And I never thought these words would ever come out of my mouth but we were both blown away by a simple Chicken Salad Sandwich. It's all about the ingredients and execution. The perfectly grilled bread, that the chicken is smoked, coddled by just enough mayo, tarragon and celery and layered with thinly sliced cucumber, fantastic pickled onions and a few crunchy potato chips. This alone is destination worthy. Which made us realize we should be smart and try their Mt.Airy Sandwich also. And yes, another hit! Lean pork, pickled veggies, herby mayo, jalapenos. Yum! This was my first visit here and it was great! We visited on a Tuesday evening in October and had no issue finding a seat around 5:30pm. You order at the bar and get a number if you are getting food. The staff bring the food to your table. All of my food was awesome! I don't think I've ever had such a unique and delicious chicken salad sandwich and I loved the fried pickles. You order everything at the register located at the bar and pay first before and then you take a number and a seat. The service was quick, and employees were friendly. Perfectly well-seasoned meat and the first bite was simply delightful. I noticed as I got towards the center of the meat, it was bit less juicy than the surrounding parts of the burger, but nevertheless still tasty. The young lady walked off and then I spotted her on her phone in the corner, followed by folding pizza boxes in a different corner. Eventually a gentleman approached with the same question. Wouldn't you know it, my order was sitting right there next to the host stand. Not impressive. The ambiance is a bit pretentious for a place serving pizza which I found to be pretty greasy. The ambiance definitely matches the price so I guess that's what they are going for. The only lot for parking is paid but I suppose that may be the norm for "downtown" Durham. The flavor again was very good, but the value and the competency of the staff are a miss. As a frequent traveler I think I'd explore the other options next time rather than return.

I went with the PB BBQ Burger (pork belly on a large burger paddy along with 3 different kinds of onions - Crispy Shallot, Pickled Reds & Fresh Scallions. PlusTex*Asian BBQ, Cheddar, Lettuce and BFD Sauce. Y'all this burger was ridiculous! It was cooked to perfection, which is a tough thing for a take out burger. It's also massive. This was one of the best flavor experiences I've had this year. I also got a side of the steak fries (which had replaced the tots from Kokyu - and while I'll always love the tots these fries were a great replacement. The Same flavor profile as the tots. We also split a side of the Crispy BBQ Shrimp which were very tasty. I'd easily go back and get all these items again. As always Kokyu does a superb job with their food even with the different menus they are offering now out of their establishment. I can't wait to try more from Flip's menu. Highly recommended.

Lunch for two came to about $80 plus tax and tip, making this one of the more upscale lunches we've had recently. We ordered: * Crispy Brussels Sprouts * Shrimp Dumplings (6) * Mongolian Beef * Grilled Lemongrass Hanger Steak Salad * Unsweetened iced tea The Food The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were a great start. They were crisp on the outside without being overcooked, and the mint, peanuts, and pickled onions added both texture and freshness. It was also a large enough portion for leftovers. The Shrimp Dumplings were excellent. The flavor was outstanding, and the Thai chili oil, garlic, scallions, and sesame worked beautifully together. My only criticism was the portion size. The accompanying rice was simply prepared and didn't add much to the dish. The flavors were enjoyable, although slightly sweeter than my wife prefers. Service Service was excellent. Our server took the time to walk us through each dish, explaining ingredients, spice levels, and preparation so we could choose items that fit our tastes. We especially appreciated her knowledge of the menu and her attentiveness throughout the meal, my iced tea was never empty. Overall Juju offers an attractive setting, excellent service, and several very well-executed dishes. Our biggest challenge was simply that much of the lunch menu leans toward spicier offerings than we typically enjoy. While we probably wouldn't return specifically for lunch, the dinner menu appears to offer a much wider variety of choices that fit our tastes. We'll likely be back to give dinner a try.

During the holiday season, they offer larger pies and have various seasonal goods to offer. But what's also wonderful is this bakery gives back to the community in many ways. During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income. It looks to me that the owners/company are concerned about being good citizens of the community and that's a great thing. These days, so many companies get bought out by private equity companies. I hope this bakery continues to be locally owned and operated! (Also, generally this bakery isn't offering the very fancy European/European-ish style pastries which is fine by me. The prices are very reasonable, possibly in part because they aren't trying to make their baked goods a "high end" item. There are other good local bakeries that offer "high end" pastries, but they are also much less affordable and for my taste, too rich.)
