There are tots were exceptional, though, and I am a fry girl. I didn't love the truffle seasoning on the fries but the quality of the fries was good. Burgers: I had the goutmet burger with truffle fries. The burger was overcooked (well done) and the rosemary aoili was off.. We had a show to catch so I did not send the burger back, but I think it would have been way better had it been cooked to the temperature I requested and if I had asked for the rosemary aoili to be omitted. The burger that my date had was better. The smashburger had a mix of sirloin and another cut of beef. It was topped with melty cheese ans bacon. It was moist and a solid burger! My boyfriend and I came here for a pre-Valentine's Day date on the 13th. We enjoyed the deviled eggs and the burger. Sadly, the menu we enjoyed was completely gone and replaced. The server assured us the new menu was much better. We ordered the Airline Chicken and the Steak Frites. Our order consisted of Mac and Beer Cheese, Loaded Nachos with brisket, Buffalo Chicken dip, a Gormet Burger with Truffle Fries and Banana Pudding. For drinks we tried the Double Smoked Old Fashion and Berry me in Mint. The Mint was very good and refreshing, not too sweet. And... I was told the old fashioned was great! The Mac & Cheese was really good. Not super creamy if that is what you are expecting. The crunchy shallots really made the dish. Most likely because it is beer cheese... so expect cheese, not cream. The Buffalo Chicken dip.is the best I have had so far! So creamy, good heat and nice chunks of chicken with fried pita chips. Scrumptious! Came here on a Friday night with some girlfriends- pretty chill and very nice ambiance. Great for a chill gathering, they have a nice bar area, tables, or booths. It's a pretty spacious and modern place! The lights dimmed just slightly as evening time passed, it made for a great mood. Our server was also really wonderful, he was really attentive and kind. I split an order of the Brussels sprouts which was chefs kiss! I love the little bits of the exterior that have fallen off and became crispy and caramelized. Some of the more halved pieces were great, but missing a tad flavor in the center which is okay cause it balanced it out holistically- a must-get! Even my friend who isn't a huge Brussels sprouts fan went in for two bites. It does have a sweet flavor and glaze to them. I shared an order of the brisket sandwich, and it was pretty good! Bread could've been toasted a tad bit more, but the softness of the bread was still nice. Overall, average, I'd say- but take that for a grain of salt cause I'm a native Texan so I get pretty serious about my BBQ. We went to flying bull on a Saturday for my dad's birthday dinner. I made a reservation about a week ahead but we likely would have been ok without one for our party of 6. This was our first dinner here and I selected this spot because the food is really good and they make delicious beer. We tasted about every beer on the menu and were really impressed by the double milk stout. Our appetizers were so good I didn't even get a picture because they disappeared so quickly and we ordered a second round of Brussels. The pickled onions that accompany the Brussels are a brilliant addition. The chicken dip had a nice kick to it and the deviled eggs were a hit with everyone. The entree favorite was the Tuna steak with Gorgonzola pasta. My only criticism is that the tuna is not the star with that delicious Gorgonzola sauce... but that pasta was 4/6 people's favorite bite of the night. The ribeye was really nice as well. My dad's Salmon was cooked a bit more than he would have preferred. The yellow beets and chicken were also delicious. The only thing I would not order in the future was the pork chop. It just wasn't anything special in my opinion. However, those collard are definitely worth a try! They let us get some with the ribeye rather than broccoli and what a treat!! Our server was wonderful and the owner dropped by our table to see how we enjoyed our meal. Nothing but happy customers at our table. My husband and I are partaking in the Bull City Beer Challenge. Which is where you got to at least 12 of 23 participating breweries in Durham and you'll get a T-shirt, coozie, and pint glass. Since we also love fall, we took a Friday afternoon off and decided to visit 3 or 4 on the list. This was our fourth and final stop of the day. I think this is more of a 3.5 star review. While we ultimately enjoyed our time here, there were just a couple of reasons I can't rate it higher. We got here early on a Friday evening. We paid for street parking but you could have probably parked for free at the Farmer's Market. It was a lovely evening so we sat outside. All of the waitstaff was really young. I have nothing against that, they just did not seem very confident in seating us or answering out questions. They were very polite though. I really wanted to try the empanadas but was informed that they were out. I asked if they were made in house and they said yes. I thought that it was odd to be out of something that they made there but figured they must have run out of ingredients, so I ordered the chicken shawarma (added fries). Be warned...the wrap is $15 BY ITSELF...if you want fries, it's an extra $4. No truffle fries, just fries. My husband got the Bacon Smash Burger and added fries. We both had two beers with dinner. The two beers I had (a blonde ale called My Roots are Showing) and a stout, were very delicious. While we were waiting for our food, we heard the waiter tell another table that they were out of empanadas....another waiter chimed in that they were in fact, NOT out of empanadas! Just as I was about to ask if I could change my order, our food came out. So while I'm a little upset that I didn't get the empanadas, I must say that the chicken shawarma was absolutely amazing! But the fries that we paid extra for were just meh. Our total came to just under $90...which was a little bit much to me. A sandwich with fries and two beers each? I know that things are getting more expensive these days but it just seemed a little pricey for what we got. I will probably got to their taphouse on 9th Street since I did enjoy the beer and the chicken shawarma AND it's more convenient to me, but not sure if I'll come back to this location. I've been here three times. Seatings are good and varying: sit down tables, brewery- style hightops, and outdoor covered patio (that is dog-friendly). Food: I enjoyed the fries, the brussel sprouts, and the cheeseboard. Had a Flycatcher cocktail - it wasn't bad but was kind of sweet and didn't really ... stand out? The Strawberry and Peach salad, however, was disappointing. The portion is laughably small it definitely should belong in the "small plates" section, and shouldn't cost $14 without any protein. The description said "a bed of arugula" but it was more like feathers falling out from a worn pillow - see photo. My middle finger is a size 5, and my watch is a 42mm for size comparison - I have small hands. To be fair, the other salads my friends ordered seem to be of normal meal size, and they come in a bowl. The waiter forgot my added chicken, but we were in a big group so I don't blame him. I didn't ask for it back since looking at others, the chicken seems dry. I'll return for beer and snacks. I ordered the Bacon Smash and you can imagine my disappointment when I received a cheeseburger. On the menu it's described as a short rib and brisket sandwich but when you get the bill, it more accurately says 'Bacon Smash Burger'. Salmon Florentine was disappointing, but the bed of cheddar grits was amazing. I wish we had only ordered Espresso Martinis and cheese grits! Let's start out with what flying bull is great at - cocktails. And the Bloody Mary was perfect and the reason this review got 3 stars instead of 0. they should stop with the bar. I've been to the restaurant twice now, the first time they were out of a lot of food, the second time most of the menu wasn't available and there wasn't a single vegetarian dish available. They made me a grilled pimento cheese, but the must of plucked bacon off the pimento cheese wraps to make it because there were bits of bacon in 1/2 the sandwich. I know most people wouldn't mind that - but I hate bacon and made it clear I was a vegetarian. I was able to pick the bacon bits out and eat the sandwich without making a fuss, but, still. 5 stars for the service and the O.G. burger and truffle fries. There is a great selection of seating: brewery high-top, sit-down dining, and outdoor firepits. The service is quick and polite; our waitress even brought water out for our dog during our first visit before the official launch party--did I mention Flying Bull is dog-friendly? The O.G. burger was very solid. You can taste each ingredient, and there aren't too many ingredients to overpower one another and confuse the palate. In particular, the molasses-glazed onions were divine. Even though my first burger order was under-done (mind you, I hadn't ever sent any dish back in my life before this), the chef personally came out to give me the next burger, which was perfectly cooked (medium). The chicken cutlet (?) doesn't seem to be on the current menu, but it was also delicious and not too heavily breaded. I wouldn't necessarily order the cocktails, as the flavors were a bit underwhelming, despite the large selection. I have enjoyed their canned beer at other events, so I think I will go for something on tap next time. The location on Morris Street is perfect. Walking distance from Durham Central Park. Far enough away from the downtown Durham crowds, but close enough to visit other places by foot after dinner! read more

First time trying this place which, based on a sign I saw, opened in April. Lovely new building downtown with an industrial feel inside. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Husband and I had both perused the menu beforehand and were excited about several beers the online menu said were on tap. Unfortunately, the in person beer menu was totally different and did not have the beers we wanted. Several were from other breweries. Husband found an IPA from Flying Bull and ordered that. I asked about seasonal cider and was told it was an apple pear although the waitress did not know the name of the brewery. Cider was good but I had to ask a couple times to ever find out where it was from. Pet peeve of mine -- I like to know what I am drinking in case I want to buy it in the future. I like that they brought a carafe of water to the table so you have plenty. Menu had lots of choices of entrees, salads, appetizers, sandwiches. I went with the fig and goat cheese salad and added salmon. Husband ordered the bacon smash burger and added fries. The salmon was a generous portion although a little too well done for my taste. Salad was delicious. Husband enjoyed his burger and fries. Would definitely come back and try something else. The three varieties of sweet potato fries intrigued me. Ok - I recommend this place if you want a casual dining experience with some good beer and a cool vibe. Btw, I had their Blonde ale which was super smooth - so good. But you should know, I am giving this place 5 stars for service and ambience, and 4 for the food. I do want to give them 5 stars, but I just can't give a perfect score when there is room for improvement and also, so much potential! Service was great! Granted, I didn't come in when it was super-busy, so I can't say my experience will be the same as it would be at 7pm on a Friday night, but you know they care bc it's easy for staff to be complacent when it isn't busy, and this crew wasn't. Turns out, they are one of the owners' kids, so that makes sense. Love the family vibe. Now the food is solid - not bad by any means. But I feel like it still needs a little tweaking - as it often does when a brewer opens a restaurant. They seem to serve high quality ingredients, but the dishes just need something to get the execution just right. Btw, the sweet potato fries are bomb in the best way. Thin, yet crunchy, and they still have a slight bite to them so they don't have a tendency to get too soggy. What I might recommend is offering a dipping sauce made especially to complement their salty, sweetness. The Spicy Chicken Sandwich could've been spicier and it would've been nice to have more creamy sauce to contrast the heat - serving it on the side could be a good way to cater to more people's tastes. I did love how all the food was served in a way to entice me visually. For dessert, I had the Ex-Presso Martini. I can't remember everything that's in it, but the balance of the drink probably tips more towards creamy, smokey, sweetness than what some might prefer. Very, very good food! We had the pretzel bites, The OJ Burger with egg and bacon. Also the Bacon Burger with egg added. So delicious and huge - I could not eat the whole thing. Our daughter had the tofu wrap - also bringing home half. The French fries were really delicious and hot. Husband and daughter had beer. I had the Spring Fling cocktail. Really great Our server for the evening was also the bartender, Guillermo. He was so knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks. We had read about the second location of Flying Bull Beer Company (the original location is on Ninth Street) and popped in on a Saturday evening. Don't let the name fool you -- it's not just a microbrewery, they have a full bar and food menu. Since we had already eaten dinner, we sat at the bar and ordered a beer and a virgin cocktail. My wheat beer was a tiny bit more hoppy than I was expecting but my wife enjoyed the nonalcoholic cocktail. The vibe was more sophisticated (e.g., bartenders in ties) and upscale than regular casual bars. The food menu was more upscale than just typical bar food as well. We'll have to come back and eat dinner there sometime. All in all, this looks like a nice addition to this section of Durham that's a little bit off the beaten path but still within walking distance of downtown. read more

NOPE Had a reservation, showed up and they seated us pretty quickly on the patio and gave us waters and menus, all good, then it went down hill. 15-20 minutes waiting to order, another 30 minutes until 1/2 of our drinks showed up (1 cocktail and 1 beer, still waiting for the other 2 beers). Another 15 minutes (so about 1 hour has elapsed now) and we've had enough, tell the hostess/manager that we are leaving and head over to Pie Pushers to try to get something quick to eat before our show. We were told that several employees did not show up for work and our waitress and hostess/manager were polite, but were definitely not on their A-games that night, regardless of the situation. - our drinks (aside from the cocktail) could have been poured easily by anyone in 1 minute or less. - either the hostess or the server could have told us they were understaffed and our wait might be extra long before sitting us - they could have refused walk-ins (I'm sure many of the people showing up and getting seated were walk-ins) - they could have even sent reservations away (why risk giving a bad experience if you are under-staffed) A very poor experience which could have easily been avoided by good management and better service execution. read more

I'd like to start by saying the service was wonderful. This review is mainly to warn plant-based patrons because 3 of the 4 items that are marked as vegan are not. The brussel sprouts have aioli (which I asked if it was plant-based and they said no), the Squash Dreams small plate has curry yogurt, and the Camote has marshmallow. All of these dishes are marked off with a "V" and on the menu it states "V=Vegan" I'm surprised this hasn't been noted or fixed before, but I did bring it to the attention of the server, so hopefully it is addressed soon. read more

Steak that arrived was overcooked, fatty and gristly and was not a strip steak.
