Love this spot in downtown Durham! Plenty of outdoor seating as well as covered patio seating for you, your 4-legged family members and family. The bar line always moves quickly and their signage is very clear regarding where to place/pickup food orders. This is a classic Durham spot and I frequently bring visitors here for a casual weeknight za and drink! I docked one star because parking here is always a nightmare. Try to avoid parking on the side street in front of the brewery as it can be really difficult to get out. I tend to avoid this spot on the weekends as it gets crowded fairly quickly. read more

The brewery staff was great, the pizza staff was rude.. I have been here many times because I love the pizza and sour offerings. We have many breweries closer to home but we drive 30 minutes out of our way for the pizza. I always tip them well even though they don't serve you. Today when I went to pick up our pizza, one of the staff members was rude and snarky towards me. I don't driver 30 minutes out of my way for that. We snagged a spot right by one and it quickly became the ideal spot to hang out, laugh, and enjoy the night. Beer-wise, I started with their pilsner and I'd happily order it again. Crisp, refreshing, and easy to drink, a solid choice if you want something light but flavorful while you try all the great food on the menu. Speaking of the menu, do not miss their pizza. We ordered the Dirty Jerzy and... wow. Melty cheese, salty pepperoni, just the right punch from roasted garlic, a drizzle of spicy ranch and honey, topped with chili flakes. It's that perfect sweet, spicy, savory combo. Easily a 10/10 and probably one of the best pizzas I've had at a brewery. We also got a classic Caesar salad which balanced things out nicely, fresh, crisp, with the right tang from the dressing. Took an impromptu trip to a brewery we've passed numerous but didn't know the name, turns out it was Ponysaurus! I've been to the Raleigh location as well, check out the review if you want to know more. Panysaurus over all is a cool place (either location) but they have drastically different vibes - which in my book is a good thing. The Durham location brings you an awesome patio scene! The bar itself is a bit small but their indoor/outdoor approach makes it seem huge. The patio is two floors, both covered, one just off the bar and the other right about that which has a few TVs for those interested. Off of the patio is a nice size "beer garden" sitting area complete with picnic tables and a great view. If you are looking for chill family friendly patio vibes this is the place to be! I really love Ponysaurus beer, their pilsner is nice but their kolsch is my favorite. If you've been to the Raleigh location, the Durham menus is not the same. Yes they have pizza but it doesn't seem to have the same options - still good though. We went with a hankering for the hummus we got at the Raleigh location, again the Durham location had hummus but a different variation. One thing that's consistent with both locations is the amount of pita that came with the hummus, there is nothing worse than getting a huge bowl of hummus and only a few pieces of hummus or chips. Both locations knocked it out of the park. Plenty of WARM pita for everyone. This location is somewhat self-service, the bartender obviously poured out beer and there is a cute window for picking up snacks but no table service. read more

Came in for Monday Trivia night and it was a blast! Trivia is conducted using your smartphones with 7 rounds of trivia in 2 hours. Mostly outdoor seating on their 2-story patio, but there are wind shields and heat lamps to keep things comfy. I opted for a beer flight to sample 4 of their brews, and I thought the Mango Guava and NC Cider were pretty good! They sell High Horse seltzers which are infused with THC and we tried those too, also tasty. Came in town to visit my daughter. Of course we wanted to come back here. We had been in winter and wanted the out door experience. This place has the best outdoor seating. Big screen to watch FIFA, lots of picnic tables around the yard with big trees for shade. There is also upstairs out door deck with lots picnic tables, big screen TV and water stations. The grounds are very clean and kept up. They are dog friendly too. Immediately head inside to get beers. They always a very wide variety for all taste buds. You have to order their wood fire pizzas! Dirty Jersey is A-mazing. Sweet and hot and spicy ranch make it perfect harmony. We are always greeted with a Hello, welcome in, what can I get ya with a smile. I'm not sure if Ponysaurus has its own parking lot, but we ended up parking in a nearby lot that costs $5 for one hour, which was probably a huge ripoff but whatever. Anyway, I ended up getting a flight, and the beer was pretty solid! Not my favorite in the area, but not bad at all. I really liked the vibes in the outdoor area as well. My husband and I are partaking in the Bull City Beer Challenge. Since we also love fall, we took a Friday afternoon off and decided to visit 3 or 4 on the list. This was our third stop. We've been to six on the list and this has been our favorite so far. There is street parking all around and free parking "lot" in front. It does fill up pretty quickly but we were able to find a spot really close to the entrance which was nice. All of the seating was outside...which on a day like we had, was absolutely perfect. The bartender was friendly and easily answered all of our questions. We also spoke to a manager after witnessing an interaction he had with a panhandler that entered the brewery. If it had not had happened right in front of us, we would not have known it happened. It was a quiet confrontation and the manager was calm and kept it from escalating. We were very impressed. I got a flight which consisted of four, 4 oz pours. I got the Chocolate Stout, Export Stout, Scottish Ale, and Golden Ale. I liked all of my choices, but the Chocolate Stout was my favorite. In fact, I liked it so much that this has been the only beer so far that I have purchased to take home! AND my husband really liked the pint glasses here so we bought one of those as well. How things have changed and stayed the same since I wrote my first review 8 years ago. The space is still great with firepits and picnic tables (and the beer has remained consistently good). They do have heaters on the first floor of the patio which work great in colder weather! However, now that there are more businesses in the area parking is a problem and lots of people don't realize that the traffic in the parking lot is one way. Pony now offers pizza (which is really good) so you cannot bring in other outside food. I do wish you could get takeout from Mezcalito or that they would have a food truck every once and a while to have other options. I've seen management come and go and entire turnovers of staff (who are always friendly but some clearly have more experience than others). They also now offer beer cocktails (that I don't think are very good but I do like the cider in the winter). They have Geeks Who Drink trivia on Mondays with a fairly regular crowd and their run club is popular as well. And they are still very dog friendly! read more

I actually think Pony is the best place to eat pizza in Durham -- it has the best taste and texture, especially if you're partial to NY style. Their garlic knots are really garlicky and oily, super yummy. I also like the Caesar salad but it's often under-dressed and the fact that you have to pop a whole romaine leaf in your mouth is a little wild. I'm not a beer drinker but I really like their Gose margarita and wish they had more cocktail options and cocktail options without any beer. Went to Ponysaurus for a quick drink and bite before heading to a meeting on Thursday. I'd heard great things about Ponysaurus and was so excited to check it out. I love the outdoor space with tons of seating and spots for pups! I went inside and asked to check out two of their beers. I was provided samples and decided to get their gose, which was very tart, but had tons of flavor and a little hint of sweetness that I liked. To eat I got their garlic knots, which was huge! They came tossed in tons of red peppers and tomatoes and a yummy marinara sauce on the side. There was no way I could eat all of it so I took a lot of it home. It was just too good to leave there. So, minus two stars for the lackluster service. The person that assisted me at the bar was not very welcoming and was very short and rude to me when I asked about the wifi. He did not seem like he wanted to be there. As a server myself, I understand you have bad days, but sometimes you have to leave stuff at home and focus on the customer and providing good service. Love this place! On a trip visiting family and our hosts brought us to ponysaurus for a quick bite. Super casual environment with some of the most amazing pizza I've ever had. I'm from La so I tend to be a food snob, I was super impressed with all the food here. And the service was spectacular. My favorite item on the menu was their garlic knots. We did get a few of the snacks that everyone else seemed to be ordering with their beers (swedish fish & homemade chex mix) & we did order the ceaser salad with the third round of drinks we ordered!
