We had such a great breakfast at Foster's Market! For my meal I picked the Breakfast Biscuit which was Two Scrambled Eggs and Cheddar on a Herb Biscuit. I also added an Avocado to it. It was so fresh and so delicious! You could taste how fresh the biscuits were. We loved the chill atmosphere at this gourmet market and cafe and how their order process was handled. When you walk in the cafe you go up to the counter and someone is waiting close by to take your order. After you make your choices you go to the register to pay and then find a seat either inside or outside on the patio and they bring the food right to you. I also got a coffee as my drink and it is serve yourself and free refills, which as a coffee lover I loved!!!
Holy overrated. The best word for this place is just disappointing. It was packed so clearly people like it, but nothing really had any flavor. Nothing was bad, just everything was bland. The chorizo omelet was massive so we were excited, but it was basically all onion, like I swear an entire yellow onion in there. The chorizo itself had no flavor. The scones looked great and were huge, but the biscuit was raw and didn't taste like much. I don't mind a slightly undercooked biscuit but this was way too much. The servers were also pretty pushy, rushing us to order and then to eat. The chairs were super uncomfortable too. Just overall a disappointing meal.
Breakfast was ok. Omelet large, but not much flavor. Coffee was fine. Seating was uncomfortable and environment loud and crowded. Ordering and paying system is confusing. My friend had a scone and said it was dry. No gluten free baked good options. Pretty pricey as well
Foster's is a cute spot where you can walk in to place an order at a service counter. Orders were taken and came out quickly, and everyone was kind. I had the Breakfast Special, it was an Italian Grits Bowl. The cheddar cheese grits were the star of the show and paired so well with the grape tomatoes and over easy eggs. The only downside was the prosciutto, in these slices it was difficult to cut and eat easily. I would love to see the prosciutto fried in this bowl. Would love to go back to try more of the menu!
The perfect spot for a casual lunch. Their sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and pies are all fantastic. So much to choose from. They have lots of sides and drinks to choose from too. Employees aren't the friendliest but they move you through the line quickly. Overall I'd highly recommend this place
What I recommend: The casserole of the day and any of their baked goods, especially the pies and macaroon cookies Foster's Market is a Durham staple and a must-try if you're in the area. It's one of my favorite spots for breakfast or a casual brunch, and it has that true farmhouse feel that makes it so special. The BLT sandwich is always a solid choice, but the real standouts are the casseroles and baked items. The casserole changes daily, and if you're lucky, you'll catch the Monterey mac and cheese or the chilaquiles version, both are incredible. The baked goods are where Foster's really shines. I've tried the peach pie, blueberry mixed pie, and apple pie, and every single one was top-notch. Their macaroon cookies are also fantastic. Foster's Market has been part of Durham for as long as I can remember, and for good reason, service is always A-1. It's cozy, delicious, and one of my go-to spots in town.
A great family brunch place. I say that, because of the open indoor and outdoor seating, without feeling pressure of leaving the table, since wait staff just brings the food after you order at the counter. Lots of kids / families when we went this Saturday. I had the Huevos Rancheros. Eggs were warm and fluffy. The spice was good, and nice to have the Pico and sour cream on the side. Food came out very quickly!
this was my first time coming to Foster's and it definitely won't be the last. .We were looking for a breakfast spot in Durham and they had the perfect breakfast menu with lots of options. upon entering you order at the counter and then they give you the check to go pay at the cashier. We ordered the huevos rancheros and breakfast burrito. They had a huge selection of breakfast dishes, along with sandwiches and wraps. there was plenty of seating inside and outside . our food came out pretty fast and probably about 10 minutes. Once the food is ready, they'll bring it out to your table. while waiting for the food browsed all the local items that they had around the store. this is such a cool local restaurant to come when you have people visiting from out of town. I can't wait to come back to try the lunch items
Took my love here to one of her favorite places for our anniversary during our stay in Durham. The salads (curry chicken, caprese, sweet potato, and more) were fresh and flavorful. I wanted some of everything. But the cakes... my goodness! Along with the carrot cake, we asked for a slice of coconut cake. We brought them up to the register to check out, and our cashier noted that the second slice didn't have the same clean, appealing lines as the carrot cake pictured here and wasn't up to the standard. Bottom line: she wouldn't charge us for it, and she left a huge positive impression about high expectations (all of which were met) for the food and service. Earned all 5 stars. Not to mention the spacious, rustic outdoor seating set apart by garden walls and cool enough even on a warm late spring day.
Cute little marketplace with lots of seating! To order food you go up to the counter and they give you a ticket to pay at the register. The omelet was pretty good I can't complain, but something that threw me off a little was my friends and I were eating and someone came up to us very abruptly and asked "did you guys pay?" To which we said yes and she just walked away. No other words, not even a hello beforehand. She didn't ask any of the other tables either which made us feel extra off. It's a cute place but I dont think I'll be returning due to the service.
Big fan of Foster's Market for years. It's like a general store + deli. It has a good selection of sandwiches, chips (spicy dill pickle chips are my new personality trait), as well as drinks and desserts. Plus, the goodies like you would expect at a general store. A great stop for a goodie or a small gift. I got the turkey club this most recent time. Wish it had a little bit more Dijon mustard but maybe that's just me. Otherwise, delicious! They have indoor and outdoor seating, some under a patio and more at picnic tables in the open. Nice to have lunch here and get some sunshine on your face. ~$13 on average for a sandwich and the chips cost extra, plus a credit card fee when you pay. Parking lot is a little cramped and the road you're turning onto (15-501) is turning into a highway, so it has lots of traffic basically at all times of day so taking a left turn may be difficult.
I really abhor giving a place a negative review, so I will keep the tone 'lukewarm', which is more than I can say about the food I was served. The place has a warm, rustic decor, with a modern-country atmosphere...charming, even. I found the service & staff very welcoming and helpful. Now, my point of contention. I have to say -- when I received my breakfast plate; the only thing that was even close to being warm on my plate was the sausage patty, which was delicious by the way. ;-) My eggs and my potatoes were almost at the point of being cold. So instead of eating my food there at the restaurant, which was my intention, I had to box it up and take it home so that I could heat it up to make it tolerable for consumption. I do have to give them proper respect for giving me an ample amount of food but, when I order food from a restaurant, I do have the expectation of it being at least warm enough to enjoy the flavor and eating experience. Soooo, you may be asking yourself, "why didn't he just send it back"? Short answer is: I was a bit in a hurry, and I did not have the heart to do so. I don't know, sometimes you just don't want to make a scene at a place that's supposed to have some of the best cuisine around.
Came for brunch with a friend! Super cozy market vibes inside and food was delicious! Service was quick and people were friendly. Want to come back and try their desserts later.

I've driven past Foster's many times on the weekends and there's always a large crowd, so when a dear friend suggested going for brunch I jumped at it. We arrived around noon on a busy beautiful Sunday! There's plenty of seating both inside and on their outdoor wrap around patio. Foster's has an old rustic charm, kind of like a general store but on a larger scale. So, you order at the counter with one of their many staffers, they call your name when it's ready if you ordered to go, or they walk around to the tables calling out your name if you choose to dine there! I had the Farm Plate, which was 2 eggs your way, a meat, their famous herb biscuit and your choice of grits or potatoes. I chose scrambled hard with cheese eggs, chicken sausage patties and cheese grits. It was just ok. The food was good, not like OMG! My friend had the Breakfast Burrito and it was again, just ok. They have a variety of options to choose from. Maybe we just picked the most basic ones. Nothing is out of the ordinary. Everything looks delicious and we really should have tried a dessert, but didn't. I would go back to give them another chance, but I'm not rushing. They have local goods, like honey, jams, chocolates, sauces for sale as well as wine and lots of other goods. It's super family friendly and a great place to sit and enjoy someone's company or your own, o just didn't have a spectacular experience. read more

Second time here was a much better experience than my first time here. The breakfast burrito was sooo yummy and not dry at all! The latte was also good and I'm glad I have this place another chance! read more

Great farmhouse feel to this place, it has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is friendly, while you wait you can shop in their small gift shop, it's more of an area that has food stuffs for purchase. The food is fresh and doesn't feel frozen or overly processed. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you receive. Nice breakfast/brunch place. read more

Came here with my wife for breakfast on her day off. She got the omelette of the day and a biscuit, I got the huevos rancheros. Both were great, the biscuit particularly so, and I thought the prices were very resonable. The coffee was also pretty good - they have their own roast from Joe Van Gogh. The layout of the market is unusual, and I thought I would not like it, but once I was in there I actually enjoyed it. The 'market' aspect of the market is just spread around the interior, mixed along with the seating, and you order in one place and pay in another. Somehow this all plays together well and just ends up being an enjoyable environment. We'll definitely be going back. read more
Nice cozy place that serves breakfast and lunch. We were in Durham area and looking for a nice local place to support. Foster's Market definitely matched what we were looking to find. We both ordered sandwiches that were fantastic. Nice size and well made. I ordered the Jammin Turkey Breast Sandwich (very yummy) with just the right amount of spice from the pepper jelly. My wife ordered the Roasted Turkey Breast sandwich, which she really enjoyed. Very nice place to visit with friendly people and plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. I've been here several times for the atmosphere, relaxing and beautiful outside. Food has usually been ok and I love the combined chocolate chip peanut butter cookie and the ginger snap cookie. Today I had the breakfast special which was sausage gravy biscuit with an egg on top and a side of cheese grits. The sausage and gravy biscuit with egg was amazing!!! Grits were good too, but oh my goodness! Delicious! read more

Three stars solely based on the ordering process. It was a busy lunch time. I ordered our sandwiches in the center of the store where the chalkboard menus are. I had no idea there were deli type salads at another counter. Had no idea how to pay --- finally asked someone and was directed to the "cashier". The cakes looked delicious. There are baskets full of individual bags of chips. For $15 I would have thought this was included. NOPE -- chips are extra. I had the special sandwich of the week called The Godfather. It was delicious and huge enough to share. The ordering process could be greatly improved. They would maybe even get more sales if you could get everything AND pay in ONE location. I do want to come back for a slice of cake sometime. Or a scone or maybe even breakfast. Lunchtime was just too crowded. read more
Foster's market is a super cute spot to grab brunch! There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating so I love coming on a nice sunny day to eat and enjoy the weather. You order at the counter and then pay at a separate counter, and then a waiter walks around the restaurant calling out your name to bring your food. This time we got the BLT and smoked salmon omelette. The menu doesn't have that many unique options usually, which is always a bit disappointing. The BLT was fresh but wasn't that flavorful or filling. The omelette was good though, they cook it nicely and add plenty of smoked salmon to it. I think overall the portions tend to be small though and the quality of the food doesn't compare to other brunch spots in the area. Fosters is a staple though and I would come back for the vibes!! read more

Always a great spot to meet with friends and grab breakfast!! Very reasonable price, plenty of seatings (especially outdoor seatings). Service is friendly but could be slow during busy time. FYI, this place has no public wi-fi! Perfect place to get some reading/writing done without distraction lol. read more

Stopped in for brunch Sunday 11 after we found out the BBQ place we wanted to check out nearby was closed on Sundays. But I'm glad we found Foster's. It's a cute little spot that offers brunch plates, sandwiches, and salads. You order at the counter, find a table, and they'll bring the food to you. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but it was too cold to sit outside, so we did have to lurk a little to nab an indoor table. Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long. I had the BLT and it was nice and light somehow, despite it being a bacon sandwich. Great option if you are looking for a quick and casual sit-down brunch. read more
Cozy market where you order at a counter, pay, and then sit down and eat, a lot of self service which is fun. I got the seasonal omelette which was really tasty and had nice Fall flavors like butternut squash and the herb aioli was a nice touch on top. The potatoes were not great so definitely recommend swapping them for the biscuit. Affogato was definitely something, was expecting a little less icecream and more espresso? Would definitely come back again and try something else! read more
