I've driven past Foster's many times on the weekends and there's always a large crowd, so when a dear friend suggested going for brunch I jumped at it. We arrived around noon on a busy beautiful Sunday! There's plenty of seating both inside and on their outdoor wrap around patio. Foster's has an old rustic charm, kind of like a general store but on a larger scale. So, you order at the counter with one of their many staffers, they call your name when it's ready if you ordered to go, or they walk around to the tables calling out your name if you choose to dine there! I had the Farm Plate, which was 2 eggs your way, a meat, their famous herb biscuit and your choice of grits or potatoes. I chose scrambled hard with cheese eggs, chicken sausage patties and cheese grits. It was just ok. The food was good, not like OMG! My friend had the Breakfast Burrito and it was again, just ok. They have a variety of options to choose from. Maybe we just picked the most basic ones. Nothing is out of the ordinary. Everything looks delicious and we really should have tried a dessert, but didn't. I would go back to give them another chance, but I'm not rushing. They have local goods, like honey, jams, chocolates, sauces for sale as well as wine and lots of other goods. We had such a great breakfast at Foster's Market! For my meal I picked the Breakfast Biscuit which was Two Scrambled Eggs and Cheddar on a Herb Biscuit. I also added an Avocado to it. It was so fresh and so delicious! You could taste how fresh the biscuits were. We loved the chill atmosphere at this gourmet market and cafe and how their order process was handled. When you walk in the cafe you go up to the counter and someone is waiting close by to take your order. After you make your choices you go to the register to pay and then find a seat either inside or outside on the patio and they bring the food right to you. Holy overrated. The best word for this place is just disappointing. It was packed so clearly people like it, but nothing really had any flavor. Nothing was bad, just everything was bland. The chorizo omelet was massive so we were excited, but it was basically all onion, like I swear an entire yellow onion in there. The chorizo itself had no flavor. The scones looked great and were huge, but the biscuit was raw and didn't taste like much. I don't mind a slightly undercooked biscuit but this was way too much. Took my love here to one of her favorite places for our anniversary during our stay in Durham. The salads (curry chicken, caprese, sweet potato, and more) were fresh and flavorful. I wanted some of everything. But the cakes... my goodness! Along with the carrot cake, we asked for a slice of coconut cake. We brought them up to the register to check out, and our cashier noted that the second slice didn't have the same clean, appealing lines as the carrot cake pictured here and wasn't up to the standard. Bottom line: she wouldn't charge us for it, and she left a huge positive impression about high expectations (all of which were met) for the food and service. Earned all 5 stars. this was my first time coming to Foster's and it definitely won't be the last. .We were looking for a breakfast spot in Durham and they had the perfect breakfast menu with lots of options. upon entering you order at the counter and then they give you the check to go pay at the cashier. We ordered the huevos rancheros and breakfast burrito. They had a huge selection of breakfast dishes, along with sandwiches and wraps. there was plenty of seating inside and outside . our food came out pretty fast and probably about 10 minutes. Once the food is ready, they'll bring it out to your table. while waiting for the food browsed all the local items that they had around the store. this is such a cool local restaurant to come when you have people visiting from out of town. Foster's is a cute spot where you can walk in to place an order at a service counter. Orders were taken and came out quickly, and everyone was kind. I had the Breakfast Special, it was an Italian Grits Bowl. The cheddar cheese grits were the star of the show and paired so well with the grape tomatoes and over easy eggs. The only downside was the prosciutto, in these slices it was difficult to cut and eat easily. I would love to see the prosciutto fried in this bowl. Cute little marketplace with lots of seating! To order food you go up to the counter and they give you a ticket to pay at the register. The omelet was pretty good I can't complain, but something that threw me off a little was my friends and I were eating and someone came up to us very abruptly and asked "did you guys pay?" To which we said yes and she just walked away. No other words, not even a hello beforehand. She didn't ask any of the other tables either which made us feel extra off. I really abhor giving a place a negative review, so I will keep the tone 'lukewarm', which is more than I can say about the food I was served. The place has a warm, rustic decor, with a modern-country atmosphere...charming, even. I found the service & staff very welcoming and helpful. Now, my point of contention. I have to say -- when I received my breakfast plate; the only thing that was even close to being warm on my plate was the sausage patty, which was delicious by the way. ;-) My eggs and my potatoes were almost at the point of being cold. So instead of eating my food there at the restaurant, which was my intention, I had to box it up and take it home so that I could heat it up to make it tolerable for consumption. I do have to give them proper respect for giving me an ample amount of food but, when I order food from a restaurant, I do have the expectation of it being at least warm enough to enjoy the flavor and eating experience. Soooo, you may be asking yourself, "why didn't he just send it back"? Short answer is: I was a bit in a hurry, and I did not have the heart to do so. Came here with my wife for breakfast on her day off. She got the omelette of the day and a biscuit, I got the huevos rancheros. Both were great, the biscuit particularly so, and I thought the prices were very resonable. The coffee was also pretty good - they have their own roast from Joe Van Gogh. The layout of the market is unusual, and I thought I would not like it, but once I was in there I actually enjoyed it. The 'market' aspect of the market is just spread around the interior, mixed along with the seating, and you order in one place and pay in another. Somehow this all plays together well and just ends up being an enjoyable environment. We'll definitely be going back. read more

The BLT was fresh but wasn't that flavorful or filling. The omelette was good though, they cook it nicely and add plenty of smoked salmon to it. I had no idea there were deli type salads at another counter. Had no idea how to pay --- finally asked someone and was directed to the "cashier". The cakes looked delicious. There are baskets full of individual bags of chips. For $15 I would have thought this was included. NOPE -- chips are extra. I had the special sandwich of the week called The Godfather. It was delicious and huge enough to share. The ordering process could be greatly improved. They would maybe even get more sales if you could get everything AND pay in ONE location.
