    Daily omelet special with potatoes
    Katherine S.

Breakfast was ok. Omelet large, but not much flavor. Coffee was fine. Seating was uncomfortable and environment loud and crowded. Ordering and paying system is confusing. My friend had a scone and said it was dry. No gluten free baked good options. Pretty pricey as well

Holy overrated. The best word for this place is just disappointing. It was packed so clearly people like it, but nothing really had any flavor. Nothing was bad, just everything was bland. The chorizo omelet was massive so we were excited, but it was basically all onion, like I swear an entire yellow onion in there. The chorizo itself had no flavor. The scones looked great and were huge, but the biscuit was raw and didn't taste like much. I don't mind a slightly undercooked biscuit but this was way too much. The servers were also pretty pushy, rushing us to order and then to eat. The chairs were super uncomfortable too. Just overall a disappointing meal.

The perfect spot for a casual lunch. Their sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and pies are all fantastic. So much to choose from. They have lots of sides and drinks to choose from too. Employees aren't the friendliest but they move you through the line quickly. Overall I'd highly recommend this place

What I recommend: The casserole of the day and any of their baked goods, especially the pies and macaroon cookies Foster's Market is a Durham staple and a must-try if you're in the area. It's one of my favorite spots for breakfast or a casual brunch, and it has that true farmhouse feel that makes it so special. The BLT sandwich is always a solid choice, but the real standouts are the casseroles and baked items. The casserole changes daily, and if you're lucky, you'll catch the Monterey mac and cheese or the chilaquiles version, both are incredible. The baked goods are where Foster's really shines. I've tried the peach pie, blueberry mixed pie, and apple pie, and every single one was top-notch. Their macaroon cookies are also fantastic. Foster's Market has been part of Durham for as long as I can remember, and for good reason, service is always A-1. It's cozy, delicious, and one of my go-to spots in town.

A great family brunch place. I say that, because of the open indoor and outdoor seating, without feeling pressure of leaving the table, since wait staff just brings the food after you order at the counter. Lots of kids / families when we went this Saturday. I had the Huevos Rancheros. Eggs were warm and fluffy. The spice was good, and nice to have the Pico and sour cream on the side. Food came out very quickly!

Cute little marketplace with lots of seating! To order food you go up to the counter and they give you a ticket to pay at the register. The omelet was pretty good I can't complain, but something that threw me off a little was my friends and I were eating and someone came up to us very abruptly and asked "did you guys pay?" To which we said yes and she just walked away. No other words, not even a hello beforehand. She didn't ask any of the other tables either which made us feel extra off. It's a cute place but I dont think I'll be returning due to the service.

Big fan of Foster's Market for years. It's like a general store + deli. It has a good selection of sandwiches, chips (spicy dill pickle chips are my new personality trait), as well as drinks and desserts. Plus, the goodies like you would expect at a general store. A great stop for a goodie or a small gift. I got the turkey club this most recent time. Wish it had a little bit more Dijon mustard but maybe that's just me. Otherwise, delicious! They have indoor and outdoor seating, some under a patio and more at picnic tables in the open. Nice to have lunch here and get some sunshine on your face. ~$13 on average for a sandwich and the chips cost extra, plus a credit card fee when you pay. Parking lot is a little cramped and the road you're turning onto (15-501) is turning into a highway, so it has lots of traffic basically at all times of day so taking a left turn may be difficult.

Sausage gravy biscuit with egg and cheese grits.

I've been here several times for the atmosphere, relaxing and beautiful outside. Food has usually been ok and I love the combined chocolate chip peanut butter cookie and the ginger snap cookie. Today I had the breakfast special which was sausage gravy biscuit with an egg on top and a side of cheese grits. The sausage and gravy biscuit with egg was amazing!!! Grits were good too, but oh my goodness! Delicious!

Not sure...something like country farm breakfast???

I really abhor giving a place a negative review, so I will keep the tone 'lukewarm', which is more than I can say about the food I was served. The place has a warm, rustic decor, with a modern-country atmosphere...charming, even. I found the service & staff very welcoming and helpful. Now, my point of contention. I have to say -- when I received my breakfast plate; the only thing that was even close to being warm on my plate was the sausage patty, which was delicious by the way. ;-) My eggs and my potatoes were almost at the point of being cold. So instead of eating my food there at the restaurant, which was my intention, I had to box it up and take it home so that I could heat it up to make it tolerable for consumption. I do have to give them proper respect for giving me an ample amount of food but, when I order food from a restaurant, I do have the expectation of it being at least warm enough to enjoy the flavor and eating experience. Soooo, you may be asking yourself, "why didn't he just send it back"? Short answer is: I was a bit in a hurry, and I did not have the heart to do so. I don't know, sometimes you just don't want to make a scene at a place that's supposed to have some of the best cuisine around.

Came for brunch with a friend! Super cozy market vibes inside and food was delicious! Service was quick and people were friendly. Want to come back and try their desserts later.

Great farmhouse feel to this place, it has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is friendly, while you wait you can shop in their small gift shop, it's more of an area that has food stuffs for purchase. The food is fresh and doesn't feel frozen or overly processed. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you receive. Nice breakfast/brunch place.

Came here with my wife for breakfast on her day off. She got the omelette of the day and a biscuit, I got the huevos rancheros. Both were great, the biscuit particularly so, and I thought the prices were very resonable. The coffee was also pretty good - they have their own roast from Joe Van Gogh. The layout of the market is unusual, and I thought I would not like it, but once I was in there I actually enjoyed it. The 'market' aspect of the market is just spread around the interior, mixed along with the seating, and you order in one place and pay in another. Somehow this all plays together well and just ends up being an enjoyable environment. We'll definitely be going back.

Special of the day! So tasty!
    Scott J.

This is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch, either by yourself or with friends. I continue to come here because the food is sooooo good! Today their special was a burger and it was super delicious.

"Great deli-style sandwiches, from rather hidden location on Chapel Hill Rd"…read more Came by here on a Saturday. This place is REALLY hard to find... it's behind the State Farm building, but there's barely any signage from the street. (Note: some photos here in Yelp seem to be from an older location.) We actually came one Saturday, but it was unexpectedly closed, but we caught them the following one, so good to call and confirm before driving over. You walk up to a door on the back, and scan a QR code to see the menu. Then knock on/ open the door and someone will come to take your order. Then you wait outside and they bring you your sandwiches. The lady who took our order was very friendly. The kitchen was rather large, so I suspect it's used for more than just this business. We ordered two turkey subs-- the East New York (which was slightly spicy) and the Dumbo. Wait time was maybe 7-10 minutes or so. Both sandwiches came nicely wrapped, and I think total cost was a little over $20. And conveniently, they take Apple Pay. These were not your Subway or Quiznos sandwiches-- these were DELICIOUS pressed sandwiches (we got them on focaccia. I personally liked the Dumbo the best-- it had a nice mix of flavors that meshed well. The East New York was solid and had a nice spiciness, but not quite as exciting overall. Would I come back? Probably, but since there's no seating, and it's a bit awkward, maybe not the first place I'd think to try, but again, the sandwiches were REALLY good. I do think it may be excellent for catering or for getting picnic sandwiches though.

First of all, the bread is soft and has a nice bite, holds the juices of a sandwich well and was fresh. I got the Cobble Hill sandwich and the turkey was really good. Also the size is amazing for the price. When you get there, it feels like you're in the wrong place or entering in the wrong way, but you're not. I asked if this was the sandwich spot and a young man took my order and made my sandwich within 5 min. And there is enough parking behind the State Farm building to pull up and get your sandwich I can't wait to go back and try the Italian and cheesesteak sandwiches.

"Sandwich shop just off University Dr in Durham"…read more Came here for an evening dinner with a friend. We arrived around 5:45pm, and there was ample parking, but I will say the place was HOPPING by the time we left at 6:30pm. The decor is very cute-- old-style, good seating and a bar area as well. You order at the table, and food comes to you. My dining mate got the Cypriot (Halloumi, Fig, Arugula, Tomato, Pesto) with a side of curly fries, and I wasn't very hungry so I got the Beyond Meat Chicken Tenders kids meal with a side salad. I also got a delicious bottled sparkling lemonade. Service was fine-- food comes after order, but you're mostly on your own once food is delivered, as expected. We got a couple of napkins with the food, but there are more self-serve up in the counter. Just don't expect someone to check on you or anything. The food was GREAT. My dining partner loved her sandwich (commented especially on the fig spread) and fries, and I really liked my meal as well. The side salad was surprisingly delicious, especially the addition of pickled red onion. The place was clean-- I went to the restroom, too, and everything was stocked well. Price was very fair. Overall, I'd happily come back. Easy, priced well, delicious. Not a place where you get a lot of "attention", but great for a simple meal.

The frittata I had did the trick but I really enjoyed the follow up items of the biscuit and the polenta lime cookies with my coffee afterwards as well. Very helpful and friendly service. The Deets: I looked on my trusty Yelp app to see about a good place to catch breakfast before going to the Durham Amtrak station to start a Saturday of adventure with some friends. I found Alimentari at Mothers & Sons and saw that their weekend brunch started at 9am, perfect. I had experienced a wonderful dinner at the main Mothers & Sons right next door to Alimentari so I had a good vibe coming into trying it out. The outside is pretty nondescript except Mothers & Sons on the windows. Upon entering, Alimentari gives a great casual but nice feel as a combination cafe and bistro type impression. I was greeted quickly and cheerfully with water and menus as the server took my drink order to start. I decided on this visit to go with the frittata with prosciutto, caramelized onions, and Caciocavallo cheese. I liked this choice a lot, perfect portion and delicious but I wish I had more of the prosciutto flavor coming through. Throughout this meal, my servers were very positive, helpful, and always made sure I had what I needed. I decided to investigate the pastries items I saw on their bar. There are pinwheels they have on a plate they offer as a free treat, I sampled one and liked it a lot. The large cookies under the glass cake cover caught my eye. My servers described the polenta and lime cookies that were one of the selections and I had to go with those with some coffee, as well as trying one of their plain biscuits from the menu. The biscuit was large, still warm, and baked perfection (not overbaked or underdone). I would not call it a strictly "Southern style biscuit" but it was delicious and I think I would love one here with sausage and egg on future visits. I could have done with less salt on the top though, again a small thing to me. The polenta and lime cookies were a great surprise, I enjoyed these a lot with my coffee and so glad I tried them...very soft and flavorful with just a hint of crunch here and there from the polenta. I recommend them to round off your brunch experience here. I'd say 4.5 stars for food but the great service I received while here rounds them up to an even 5 stars, good breakfast/brunch stop!

During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income.
