Started our drive back to DC with breakfast here on Saturday morning. This place starts the standard for food and service. Waffle with fresh strawberries and real whipped cream, scrambled eggs light and fluffy, and corned beef hash crispy but not burnt... couldn't be any better.. and the service was outstanding... she filled our thermoses with tea or water and brightened up our morning. She also said nice things about our convertibles too! If you're on the area you MUST give these folks a try. read more

Haven't been here in years and since we were in the area and starving we decided to stop in. They have new owners since we last visited. Everyone on the staff is incredibly nice and our waitress was wonderful. Their menu is Huge!!! So many choices, esp for breakfast. My spouse had an open face tuna melt on a pita with a side of hash browns that she really enjoyed. She brought home leftovers the portion was so big. I had the Denver scramble which has 3 eggs with bacon, ham, cream cheese, and green onions added in with hollandaise sauce on the side. Plus hash browns and a toasted English muffin that comes with a cute tiny container of jelly. I too had leftovers bring take home! Everything was delicious. Silver spoon is one of those places that seems to have gotten stuck in time in a good way! It's reminiscent of places I ate at as a child, good food, good portions, friendly staff. Seems like the breakfast items are the most popular thing here, but next time I'm going to try one other lunch specials! I love that the entire staff here is so friendly! 4.1, seriously!?! the food quality is terrible here, and not only is it terrible but it gave me food poisoning for the first time in my 60 years. There are so many other better places to eat in Durham. skip this one! Oh, and the coffee is utterly atrocious. You know, diner coffee is a thing and it's good in its way. This is not. About the only thing I can say about this place is that the owner was greeting people at the door and she was lovely. The environment itself is kind of worn and dirty and jangly. I loved this spot. This is the type of breakfast restaurant you find when you're out of town and looking for a satisfying breakfast before you start your day. It was diner style and super packed. Even with every table packed we got seated and served very quickly and all the servers were really welcoming. I got the mushroom omelet, breakfast potatoes, and english muffin. I was really satisfied with my order. I also got a side of corned beef hash (not pictured) and it was great. Most places serve pretty bad corned beef hash so I was pleasantly surprised. My partner got the country scramble, hash browns, and toast. He enjoyed his food as well. The strawberry pancakes were just pancakes with (canned?) strawberries on top but still good. We needed to eat breakfast and were passing through Durham. We saw this place had a lot of good reviews. The location was a little off beaten path and the construction next door made for some difficult parking. Yet, I see the appeal as the staff was very friendly and then had a lot of food options. I picked my usually corn beef hash omelet  with fruit and an English muffin. The omelet was pretty good. I wish they provided my fruit. This is an old-school type of diner. It is located in an old Pizza Hut. The outside looks very rough and The parking lot is tight. They have a large dining room with plenty of table and booth options. We came for a Sunday brunch. The service was friendly but a little slow. I tried a Combo meal with 2 glazed apple pancakes, 2 eggs and side of hash browns. The pancakes were good, the eggs were fine, but the hash browns were a total miss. Overall, the visit was just ok, nothing amazing. I probably won't return for another visit. read more

Some colleagues and I stopped at this restaurant after completing some volunteer work at a nearby park. A rep from the park recommended this restaurant to us. We did not have reservations, nor did we need any reservations. Our server, Suha, had exceptional customer service skills. She was professional at all times while very pleasant and friendly. We all adored her bubbly personality. She made us feel welcomed and as if we were at home. They have a vast menu available. They serve breakfast all day, but they also have lunch and dinner items. There were so many items on the menu that it took us a minute to figure out what we wanted to try. There were also specials listed on a board. Our orders were taken right away once we were ready, and our food came out quickly. Suha answered our questions regarding the menu and also made some recommendations per our inquiry. We each ordered an entrée and dessert. My entrée was the seafood omelette with English muffin and home fries. It was very tasty and the omelette was flavorful with the cream cheese and shrimp on the inside and hollandaise sauce on the top. My hot fudge brownie was also really good. The presentation for both was nice. The environment was relaxed and a bit homely. There are a lot of regulars that were dining at the same time that we were. This restaurant seems to be a staple in the community. I am giving this restaurant 4 stars only because the restrooms could be brought a bit up-to-date. Additionally, in the female bathroom, there is one handicap stall and one regular stall. The regular stall is so small and cramped that it was not comfortable as there was no room to really turn around or do anything in there other than use the toilet. What made it worse was that there was nowhere to hang my pocketbook, so it was a very awkward situation. Other than that, we had a wonderful dining experience, and we enjoyed the food. Those of us that live within the vicinity of the area will definitely visit again. read more

We stopped in on a busy Sunday around 12:15 and the place was packed to the gills which is always a good sign. Super friendly staff got our party of 5 seated within 10 minutes or so...we beat a rush and saw some parties of our size wait 30 or so but definitely worth the wait! I had the pancakes that were fluffy and delicious although they didn't have the real maple syrup...never a deal breaker when as hungover as I was! My wife had a smothered breakfast burrito which was also on point! They are known for the skillets and everyone I saw come out of the kitchen was massive and looked tasty. The syrup that was served with the waffle was lacking flavor in comparison to the fantastic waffle, however. We absolutely recommend the waffle combo breakfast. This place is a true hidden gem. I love this place with its expansive menu! The owner and operator is Suha she's truly an amazing person but runs a great business. She knows all of her customers by first name who has been there more than twice. If it's available get done of her homemade baklava. Breakfast is great I think she makes it all day.
