I ordered the brisket plate with a side of rib tips. Sides were Mac & cheese with collards. The brisket tasted like it's been dehydrated and thrown gravy on top to mask it. It was not tender all throughout. The ribs tips, almost the same texture. The only thing I thought was yummy was the collards. I didn't have hush puppies so they pulled out a loaf of bread placed it on top of the counter and replaced it with the hush puppies. So lame! Throw in an extra side if you ran out of hush puppies. The food was absolutely delicious!!!!!! I had the rib dinner with cabbage and Mac n cheese. I had to wait 5 mins for the Mac n cheese.... But it was absolutely worth the wait!!!!!! OMG! First visit to North Carolina from NYC to watch NC State vs. Virginia, and on my way back to the hotel I knew I had to experience some real Carolina BBQ. Shania was so sweet and kind. She recommended dipping the hushpuppies in the candied yams sauce....hack unlocked! The fried fish and chicken wings were made to order and came out crispy and hot. Also tried Brunswick stew for the first time. It was full of flavor. Their pulled turkey was moist and well seasoned. The refreshing tea had pineapple chunks in it. Great Carolina Barbecue. Tangy, yummy, and delicious. The staff here are so friendly and helpful and nice as well. The food is a great value - you can get a meal and two sides for under $10. There are some booths and tables inside - the chairs at the tables are pretty high up and may be difficult for some to get into but the booths should be fine for all. There are also some picnic tables outside. The parking lot is rather small, but it wasn't too crowded when I went. However I got there right when it opened, and by the time I left after eating, several more people had gotten there, so it may get more crowded at peak hours. Officially they open at 11:30 Monday-Saturday (closed on Sundays) but it may be 10-15 minutes after that before they have all the food ready. But it's good food so it's worth waiting. Visited Backyard BBQ Pit on a recent work trip with some colleagues and holy cow it was amazing! Living in the North, we never get any good BBQ so this was really a treat. I went for the pulled pork with mac n cheese, collard greens, hush puppies, and some of their famous lemonade. Everything was beautiful, hearty, and left me feeling really happy. The servers were super friendly and having fun with the guests. This place is super popular and sometimes they don't have all the dishes, so just be patient and flexible with them as everything they have is whipped up fresh and delicious. The pulled pork was probably my favorite part of the meal. I put some nice BBQ sauce on, but probably next time, I'm going to try a more vinegar based sauce to embrace the NC culture a bit more. The Mac n cheese was also fantastic, just a perfect scoop. The ambiance is definitely more of a family establishment and you are not there for the vibes, but it's still certainly fun to grab a seat and eat the meal while it's hot. Such a disappointment. I was so looking forward to a good experience and drove 20 minutes during rush hour. I arrived at the site between 5 and 6pm. The mac/cheese was a wait and I apparently got the last of the okra. That part was extremely devastating. Very clustered and overcooked. The catfish was slightly undercooked and the mac/cheese has plenty of cheese, but very little seasoning. Cabbage are good but not sure what meat it was seasoned with you can see and taste it. Yams are tasty but could have been drained a little. The hush puppies are sweet and it reminds of funnel cake. Not corn based like I'm used to. Now I must say the pineapple lemonade stole the whole show and they received an extra star just for it...Chunks of pineapple in some ice cold lemonade....awwww man.
