Dehydrated food
Christopher C.

I ordered the brisket plate with a side of rib tips. Sides were Mac & cheese with collards. The brisket tasted like it's been dehydrated and thrown gravy on top to mask it. It was not tender all throughout. The ribs tips, almost the same texture. The only thing I thought was yummy was the collards. I didn't have hush puppies so they pulled out a loaf of bread placed it on top of the counter and replaced it with the hush puppies. So lame! Throw in an extra side if you ran out of hush puppies. So lame! Atmosphere is hot with no fans or AC running. Don't let the 4 star fool you and don't let me say...I told you so!

My FAVORITE BBQ joint hands down. Argue with your momma not me! With that being said, historically the overall experience left something to be said in terms of decor, cleanliness, and professionalism. So much so, I gladly contributed to a Go Fund Me event a year or so ago. I can't vouch for all of the menu options, as I'm pretty consistent with my order - Working Man Special (Currently $8.99 / formerly $ 5.99). I opt for the TURKEY Bbq sandwich w/ two sides. I knocked another restaurant for lack of smoke - when in reality it was a lack of flavor. If you have not tried the pulled/chopped turkey BBQ, you are depriving yourself. Especially, if you love eastern BBQ. Moist and flavorful BBQ (eastern style). Not to mention solid sides - what's not to love!?!. New owners, but the old owners check-in and ensure quality control, for BBQ. Cabbage was over cooked - but flavorful. Greens tasty - but didn't wow. The BBQ star of show, in our opinion. Love, love, love! Eastern Style BBQ: 4.5

The food was absolutely delicious!!!!!! I had the rib dinner with cabbage and Mac n cheese. I had to wait 5 mins for the Mac n cheese.... But it was absolutely worth the wait!!!!!! So cheesy and flavorful. The ribs were nice and tender, very flavorful and I loved the bbq sauce on it. I haven't had cabbage in years and I must admit these were so delicious! Tasted just like my grandma used to make it. On top of all the delicious food was the amazing customer service!!!!!!!! I will be returning next time I come to NC.

Shania was so sweet and kind. She recommended dipping the hushpuppies in the candied yams sauce....hack unlocked! The fried fish and chicken wings were made to order and came out crispy and hot. Also tried Brunswick stew for the first time. It was full of flavor. Their pulled turkey was moist and well seasoned. The refreshing tea had pineapple chunks in it. Definitely will be back when we're in town. Bonus: they give back to community and have a toy drive for over 300 kids for the holidays. You should come and bring a toy.

OMG! First visit to North Carolina from NYC to watch NC State vs. Virginia, and on my way back to the hotel I knew I had to experience some real Carolina BBQ. I decided on Backyard BBQ Pit--and wow, what an experience! The service was outstanding--they let me sample most of the menu before ordering. The vibe was welcoming, the staff super friendly (and such a beautiful team!), and the food... absolutely incredible. I couldn't resist trying two plates: * Pulled pork platter with collard greens, cabbage, and a biscuit. Perfectly seasoned and so flavorful. * Pork chop platter with baked beans, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. Every bite was comforting, hearty, and delicious. Everything was edible heaven. Backyard BBQ Pit definitely delivered that authentic Carolina BBQ experience I was hoping for!

Visited Backyard BBQ Pit on a recent work trip with some colleagues and holy cow it was amazing! Living in the North, we never get any good BBQ so this was really a treat. I went for the pulled pork with mac n cheese, collard greens, hush puppies, and some of their famous lemonade. Everything was beautiful, hearty, and left me feeling really happy. The servers were super friendly and having fun with the guests. This place is super popular and sometimes they don't have all the dishes, so just be patient and flexible with them as everything they have is whipped up fresh and delicious. The pulled pork was probably my favorite part of the meal. I put some nice BBQ sauce on, but probably next time, I'm going to try a more vinegar based sauce to embrace the NC culture a bit more. The Mac n cheese was also fantastic, just a perfect scoop. The ambiance is definitely more of a family establishment and you are not there for the vibes, but it's still certainly fun to grab a seat and eat the meal while it's hot. I will definitely be visiting again next time I'm in the triangle!

Ribs, Mac n Cheese, Collards

The ribs were super tender and flavorful and the collard greens were well seasoned. Only negative thing was the mac and cheese being a greasy and not very flavorful. Hushpuppies were amazing! Homemade! Home-run was the energy and passion for customer service from the manager/owner (I couldn't tell which role he was). Made me want to go back!

My sweet grandmother requested barbecue for her 88th birthday. I asked her if she wanted something "fancier" but she wanted her favorite meal! I have not been to this location in several years. I was pleasantly surprised by the new renovations. Everything really looks nice. I ordered a barbecue plate, a rib plate, and a veggie plate. This is definitely your good southern cooking type food. Flavorful, seasoned, and hearty. Everyone greeted me and was very friendly and fun. The food was given to me quickly. Our favorites were the corn, Mac n cheese, collards, and cabbage!

Amazing true southern BBQ all the best meats and sides so good make you wanna slap yo mama

Pulled Pork plate with Mac-n-cheese and collard greens.

Let's start with my background. I am a northerner who currently live in Texas. So the idea of pork BBQ with a side of collard greens is not a usual order. But the is possibly one of the finest lunches I have had in a while. The pork is flavorful and not hidden behind a bunch of sauce. The Mac and cheese is full of cheese with a great baked crust on top. The hush puppies are slight sweet and not at all greasy. But my biggest surprise was the collard greens. I've had these greens at other restaurants and have never had a second forkful. Not here. It was the first thing I finished. If you are in the area you can't get a better meal. Also, if you don't know what you want, let them know. They'll let you try most anything. As far as BBQ joints, this has typical ambiance, which is to say not much. Come for the food and friendly staff.

OooWeee this is some of the best I've ever had hands down. I came here after a TikTok food reviewer claim Backyard BBQ to be the best in the Raleigh/Durham area. I ordered the Yams, Brisket plate, Mac & Cheese, Greens, hush puppies, Pulled Smoked Turkey and Baked Beans. Bayyybayyyeee!!! When I the food is hitting it's on point. It is legit the best BBQ I've had in my life and the side Zelle not to be played with either. The yams are yams'n and the Mac & Cheese is cheese'n everything is superb. The staff is supper welcoming even let me sample everything being it was my first time the and being an out of towner. For everything I bought it was very affordable and I wish I could have bought more to fly home with it's so good, but I have it all figured out for next time lol. I will definitely be back here real some as I'm planning another trip back to North Carolina.

There is plenty of parking on the backside of the building, paid parking out front, and be careful not to park in the apartment spaces on the side...they sounded pretty serious about towing. I had made a reservation but it was probably unnecessary as it was pretty empty when we arrived (it was about 5pm on a Saturday.) The waitress brought a bottle of water to the table and took our drink order. And I know that this place is literally call it's a Southern thing but can I mention how much I dislike drinking out of mason jars? I ordered the chicken n biscuits, my husband got the country hamburger steak plate, my BiL got wings, and my SiL got the crabcakes. We also orders charred jalapeno & sweet corn hushpuppies and frickles as an appetizer. I was VERY excited about my food. Y'all...the only thing that impressed me were the Frickles. Everything else was distinctly underwhelming. I also ordered Blackberry Betta Have My Money which was not that great. My SiL ordered a espresso martini that they said didn't come from a mix but she said it tasted like it was. The bathrooms were very clean. The decor and the vibe were great. Cute even. I really enjoyed that part of it. After dropping off our food, we never saw our waitress again unless we flagged her down for drink refills. It was especially frustrating since there was automatic gratuity added. And since the place wasn't that busy, it felt like she didn't feel the need to earn her automatic tip. Overall I was disappointed in my birthday dinner. I won't be coming back here.

Very distinct flavor and still very rich and familiar. The shrimp were large and juicy as well as remained crunchy overall cooked very well. We also had the summer tomato and burata salad which was really refreshing and delicious. My friend ordered the mac and cheese which is a hefty serving size. Definitely a shareable side or a main for one person. Our host came to check on us frequently, our Waters never went empty. Other hosts were also helping check in on us which was nice. The restaurant itself is large. Booth tables available, which made for a cozy environment. We ended the night with some brownie a la mode, which was the perfect dessert to have on a hot summer day. This dish was my favorite of the night- small but shareable, entire dish was refreshing and all the flavors and textures went together so well. For dinner I ordered the roasted chicken and the baked mac and cheese with bacon. The roasted chicken was juicy and tasty, and a bit sweet with the bourbon ginger and plum reduction, but the mac and cheese seemed dry and overcooked. We also ordered the buttermilk cheddar biscuits- that taste slightly undercooked (in a good way), so the texture was soft and chewy (and amazing). The honey butter and large maldon salt granules made the biscuits perfect. They were so good we ordered a second order!! I would definitely return to Plum, for both the food and hospitality.
