We've been coming here since day one and the quality of service and their food is still top notch!! We usually make a point to come here on Tuesday's when it rib day, but tonight we felt like their pork sandwiches. I got the Lolo's pulled pork. The sandwich is so big. I swear it's at least a half pound of delicious pork. I also got the corn casserole and my spouse got a side salad that she enjoyed. Bottom line, they knock it out of the park every time. read more

Priorities! I got the 'Sampler: 2 Meats, 2 Sides, Texas Toast' with my choices of 18-Hour Brisket (smoky, tender, yummy) and Pulled Pork (bland without sauce). Thankfully, the vinegar-based Swine Wine sauce from the sauce bar saved the day. The Cornbread was okay and too smooth for me (I like crumbs and crustiness), but the Collard Greens were delicious! Had the Judge's Sampler with 2 more people. Only giving 4 stars since we went for dinner at 7pm and they were out of ribs for the day already. We substituted them for pulled chicken and it was actually a worthy substitution. Food was more than sufficient for 3, and the sides (collard greens, cornbread, and fried okra that we paid a little extra for) were quite good. Everything was tender, well seasoned, and fresh. Their hot bbq sauce was borderline addicting. My only complaint is the collard greens though well seasoned, were salty. Love the southern hospitality and patience for a midwesterner that clearly has never been there, as they explained how ordering worked for us. read more

Ordered a combo meal with 2 meats and 2 sides. For $20 I was a little taken aback by how small it was? I love bbq and order my fair share but have not seen portions this small from anywhere else. The "smoked" turkey wasn't smoky at all. The pulled chicken was mixed with mayo? That's a first... potato salad is decent and same with cole slaw. Certainly nothing to write home about! Popped in here because they were dog friendly. Service was great, we both ended up getting the choose 2 meats and 2 sides combo. For sides, we got greens, mac n cheese, green beans and baked beans. All were good, but the greens were my least favorite. The ribs were nice and tender as was the pulled pork. The brisket was decent, but I used to live in Texas and this one is nowhere near as tender and flavorful as those I've had in the past. I was kind of interested in dessert but once I learned the banana pudding had caramel on it, I passed. I liked that they had an array of sauces and I tried them all. I visited the bathrooms while I was there a were clean, but one of the stalls was out of order and there were only 2. Also, they were out of real forks so I attempted to eat with a spoon, but the spoon from the container was dirty. When I asked them for a fork I was given a plastic pack lol. First visit to the Durham, NC location and the food was better than average. My BF ordered a pork platter with 2 sides, while I had a chili bowl meal with cornbread and a side order of fried pickles. Before I moved to North Carolina, you would never catch me with coleslaw on my plate, but that all changed the first time I tried Lolo's pulled pork sandwich. Something about the mix of the swine wine sauce and the creamy yet crunchy slaw just makes for the absolute perfect combo and now, more than 8 years later, I'm a slaw-on-my-pulled-pork-sandwich convert! Truly, all thanks to this sandwich. And over all these years, it's remained consistently delicious. Service here is usually pretty good! Staff is friendly when you order and pickup at the counter. That's all you'll really interact with them. Pre-COVID times, there were pickles and onions for your sandwiches and lemon wedges for your tea set out in a condiment bar by the self-service sauce and drink stations--that hasn't come back. Now things sit empty and collect random straw wrappers and lids because customers can't be bothered to put their trash in the correct bins and as is the case in most food service locations, they're too understaffed to have people maintaining the dining area. It's off-putting when the receptacles for dirty dishes are overflowing during busy rushes. So I'm taking off a star for ambiance only because things don't feel as clean as they could be. Great brisket, juicy chicken, ribs were perfect with a great pull, seasonal cucumber and onion side was tasty and not sweet, green beans and bacon side definitely had a subtle bacon flavor and the beans were not overcooked and the Hoppyum IPA was hopyummy. Everyone behind the counter was really friendly and they brought out a couple of slower items directly to my table. I will definitely be back. Remember to tip well. Nice classic country BBQ restaurant atmosphere. The lunch crowd is full of locals, many of whom are known to the staff by name. That's how you know it's good NC BBQ! I was traveling for work and figured I would try some NC barbecue while in the area. I ordered the two meats with two sides platter which listed it came with texas toast. I also added an additional side and two desserts and placed my order through Uber Eats. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed in nearly all of the food. The brisket was very dry and the pulled pork was decent but I was only given a very small portion of it. There was also a huge slab of fat and skin included in the container- I was very off put that it was included with my meal when there was no meat in it and was completely indelible. The sides I ordered were the fried okra, corn pudding, and mac & cheese which were bland. The Texas toast was forgotten when they packed the order. The banana pudding was ok but I would recommend that you avoid the peach cobbler unless if you want a bowl of dough. While the cobbler portion was large, it was extremely dry. I've never had peach cobbler without any type of sauce or moisture in it and I only had 3 small peach slices in the container. I ended up throwing out most of the meal and was left hungry for the evening. read more

O. M. G! This is the best serving of fried okra I have ever had! (Sorry, grandmama! I still loved yours, but I think you'd like this better!) Most okra is coated in a thick batter and then cooked until the batter is done. CB puts on a thin batter and cooks it quickly, so that the okra is not all dried out and tough. And the batter is just enough to have a little flavor and crunch. Wow! Just - wow! Sorry, I'm back. I was having a moment. The pulled pork was hot and juicy, and there were several sauces to choose from. I tried to make a joke about pork v. beef and chicken being called barbecue in NC, but it was lost on the young man behind the counter. But they seem to have a lot of other imported barbecue items, in addition to actual NC BBQ (which is always pork!) City Barbeque has a rustic country atmosphere to it. I don't come as regularly as I used to, but when I do, the BBQ doesn't disappoint. The signature pulled pork is delicious. It's rich in vinegar, so be mindful of that. One of my friends had their smoked yard bird (chicken). His portion was generous. The bird was done well. Soft, tender meat with skin on. Their corn pudding was great, I think that will be my go-to side along with hushpuppies. If I go for a meat sandwich, I'll skip the burger bun so I can enjoy the sides. So tender and seasoned to perfection! The sides were good, too! I had fried okra and Mac and cheese. The macaroni was a little cheesier than I like, but still good. Great option for bbq food. Particularly, the sides and breads are all so tasty. They certainly mastered all of the traditional sides like green beans and Mac, among others. Meats are flavorful and fresh, and the judges platter (enough for 3-4) is perfect for me and the wife to get a taste of everything and have leftovers.
