I had almost given up hope after shopping around at previous car dealerships due to their overall rude and unsatisfactory customer service THEN stumbled upon Sales Advisor Jesus Franco who caught us looking at vehicles past their hrs of operation from the sidewalk (we wasted too much of our time at previous car dealerships). He approached us and basically with opened arms, welcomed us inside the dealership. He stayed after hours sharing his very knowledgeable information on their SUV's and didn't try to press us into buying something, yet warmly invited us back with an appointment around our schedule which was still a week away in when we'd be able to return. In previous attempts at shopping around, salesmen had tried to get us to buy then and there or make a return right the following day, no layaway time it felt like, cause then we'll "lose" the once in a life time amazing deal. Mr. Franco followed up with a phone call and we were there the next week to purchase a new model. He worked with us in pricing and got us rolling in our new wheels! Mr. Perry the sales manager there also worked with me in obtaining all the extra features I wanted and made sure I left happy and satisfied, he made calls and deals with us so that we as the customers felt at ease and good about our buy. Instead of an apology, I was given an excuse that the express services are not done by the experienced techs. This is only in regards to the Service Department. Well they don't call them stealerships for nothing. I purchased my new BRZ from here and was impressed by the level of professionalism and respect from the Sales dept that I decided to continue business with them in the service department. I am no dumb dumb when it comes to the fact that dealership make a good chunk of their profit for the Services dept, at the end of the day a business has to make a profit somehow, but come my 60k service, that ended. I was quoted almost 1500 for my maintenance on my vehicle which included oil change, tire rotation, change tranny fluid, brake and clutch bleed, amongst other things. I quickly changed my mind decided to jump ship before it was too late. I then did my own research and bought all of the things needed to do the service myself and found that it came to less than $300 and a few hours of my time. I am competent in DYI when it comes to cars and maintenance and came here solely due to the fact that I supported this business due to how well the sales process has gone but after finding out that this "stealership" was going to make over $1200 off me, that was the last straw. If you can do your own maintenance, do it, its not worth your lost money on supporting this kind of rip off read more

I generally detest buying cars, especially the endless haggling. I've used programs in the past with guaranteed pre-negotiated prices just to avoid the hassle. I showed up with a very lived in Forester and a preset goal in mind (trade-in price, sale price, and interest rate), and a 45 minute self-imposed time limit. I knew both the sales manager, Reggie, and the floor manager, Frank, from my purchase three years ago (the employee stability is a good sign), and they handed me an offer that hit my goals thirty minutes after I walked in. They've managed to do this twice now, so yes, I am happy with the sales experience, and will give them the first chance again when it's time for a new car. read more

If i could put less than one star trust me i would..let me tell you how i received horrible customer service by employee carlos and manager sean. Waited about 2 weeks for a car they had "found and were processing" to make its way into town (i understand the regulations due to COVID-19) that was not the issue. Carlos failed to give me any updates, i had to text him every couple days to even find out anything going on. Then promises me he will have a update by x date and fails. Then tells me "they sold the car" when it was "in process" to come to the dealership? Both Carlos and sean had talked to us and said the car would be coming it might just take a while due to the circumstances but never was i told of the possibilities that could happen or that i would have to bug a "salesperson" to do their job correctly. In oct. 2016 I bought a Subaru Crosstrek, which I love. I had an issue when I bought my car in that they had the wrong VIN for it which caused me to have to return to the dealership, contact my insurance and generally be inconvenienced. I also had problem with my trade in. Yesterday I received the second parking ticket on my car I traded in. Obviously Modesto Subaru did not transfer the title properly when they resold the car. I now, once again, have to make a copy of the transfer of title to Modesto Subaru and mail it in so I don't have to pay a parking ticket on a car I no longer own. I contacted Modesto Subaru the last time this happened and was assured they would take care of it. Clearly they didn't. I caution anyone buying a car from them that their handling of paperwork is sloppy and cause you issues in the future. read more

I bought my Atractive crosstek 18 months ago, brand new. At 18K miles the car stopped working, the front gasket on the engine block sprand a leak. Simultaneously the serpentine belt shredded and literally fell apart. The car repairs took a week as the model was so new they had no parts to repair with. I asked for a new engine but was rebuffed. At 30k miles the Crosstekstarted consuming oil and once on a highway the oil light came on. The service manager seemed to want nothing to do with helping me. I had to pay a visit to make my point. For now the car is under observation. I am disappointed by the Crosstek, although it looks handsome and has the legendary Subaru name behind it. I am disappointed by the post sale. I got a call from my son who needed a part for his car, something simple and I was close. I went to Modesto Subaru, the parts department, but didn't have his car's VIN. They told me they'd sell me the part but if it was wrong I couldn't return it because I didn't have the VIN. I didn't have a choice, my son needed the part, so I bought it and luckily it was what he needed. I've never heard of a business refusing to exchange an unused part. That's not helpful, and it's not customer service, it's the customer buying something at the dealer's convenience or something. We're a Subaru family but I'll never go to Modesto Subaru again, for parts or for a car. Never. read more

This is strictly a review of the service center. They have terrible customer service. If you call to try and get information you will most likely get the answering machine. Don't waste your time leaving a message because they will not call you back. When you go in the employees are rude and don't know what they are doing. I have been to the service center about 5 times and on two instances the girl misquoted me my invoice and tried to charge me more than what I owed. On Memorial Day Enrique Mejia did an amazing job helping us out, helped us with all the questions we had and showed us everything they had available to find the right car for us. However we were not too thrilled that after we test drove the car we had already thoroughly inspected decided to purchase, the keys were given to another associate to park it for us, but instead the other guy drove it around back and sold it to a different family. When Enrique told us what happened as we were midway through the purchasing process, told us that there was another car exactly like the one in the side lot. Since it was at the very end of the evening past their normal closing time almost 10pm, it was dark outside, we were rushed and weren't able to fully inspect the car that was delivered to us before leaving the lot. The other associate dampened the experience for us, but Enrique did a great job in trying to help us out as much as possible, we will be going back to Enrique in the future for our next Subaru purchase. My husband and I just purchased our first Subaru this evening and I couldn't wait to get home and post this review! I literally have never been part of such an awesome car-buying experience as we did this evening. Yes, you read that right; I just used the words "awesome" and "car-buying" in the same sentence! Practically unheard of, I know. We'd been out looking for a reasonably-priced used car with great gas mileage and had a trade-in to boot. We'd received offers from several dealers on our trade-in that we're downright insulting. Feeling discouraged, we decided to stop at Modesto Subaru to see what they had to offer. Not expecting anything great, we cautiously stepped on the lot to look around. Why are new cars so pretty and shiny?! They beckon you; "Come sit in me! Smell my yummy new car smell!" Ugh, I hate that they have the upper-hand. Anyhow, we found one that we really liked. THE sweetest man came out to offer his assistance. His name is Frank and let me tell you, Frank is the bee's knees! From the moment we stepped on the lot never once did we feel an ounce of pressure. We took 'er for a test drive and fell in love. Trying to be cost-conscious, I decided not to go with leather which made me a little sad but hey, what can you do? We went inside and prepped ourselves to play the "number game" and what?! Wait... there's no game? Is this real-life? Not only did we receive an impressive price on the car, the craziest part of it all was we didn't even have to ask! It was like the stars aligned and decided it was our destiny to take this shiny new baby home. Crazy part #2: we have never received such a fair price offer on our trade-in. It really was a great offer. Presented with the full cost with trade-in, we were 1) Incredibly happy with the offer and 2) Giddy; like we were pulling one over on them! It was then that I had to ask Frank the Big Question; could he give me one with leather because, heck, I can afford it at this price. I asked if it was too late to add it and Frank didn't miss a beat. He came right back out with another amazing offer on the one I truly wanted. How awesome is that? Did I mention that Nelson is "The Man"? There was no back-and-forth for hours, wanting to pull your hair out, wishing you would've just kept on driving by instead of stopping to be tortured. You guys know what I mean, right? Everything was upfront, fair and honest. Things you don't always experience when buying a car. Nelson was kind, funny and extremely patient while we made various phone calls to get all the info they needed to seal the deal. Crystal was our last stop; the place where it feels like you're signing your life away only you're super happy about it because you're getting a beautiful new car. Another sweet person who was a pleasure to deal with. Overall, it was the most enjoyable car-buying experience to date. We can't thank them enough and highly, highly recommend them. We just purchased a 2013 Outback from this dealership after some comparison shopping at Honda and Toyota. Our salesman, Anatoly, was very patient and knowledgeable in explaining the advantages of the Subaru AWD system, transmission design, as well as the differences between the Forester and Outback models. When he took us for a test drive we were pretty much sold on the Outback. Although is was a 4 cyl. it had great acceleration and handled beautifully. The dealership had a great selection of Outbacks and we were able to find one with the exact features and color we preferred. Anatoly was friendly and professional without being pushy. The showroom was very busy that day (it was Memorial Day weekend) but the manager, Nelson Peterson, took the time to chat with us and even BBQ'd some delicious turkey burgers for us while we were signing the paperwork (we had missed lunch that day and by then it was dinner time). The finance guy was very nice also and didn't pressure us when offering extended warranty and fabric protection. All in all we felt like we got a fair deal and excellent customer service. Nelson even offered to send someone up to Sonora to pick up our car when it needs service. Anyone looking to buy a Subaru should definitely check out this dealership! read more

My 2005 Subaru Outback broke down in Modesto even though I live in the Bay Area. I absolutely dreaded going through the process of diagnosis, repair, and return of my car. The car did have a major problem--a blown turbo, which I later learned is a not uncommon failing of this car. However, Jessica, the manager, took care of me and my car with amazing professionalism, honesty, and good advice, and this was all done over the phone. As she deemed it was the fault of Subaru, she did not hesitate to make all repairs free of charge. She helped me get other maintenance done (which was almost due anyway) at a reduced rate because of the work already being done. To top it all, she had the car delivered--free of charge-- to my front door, 80 miles away. She made what could have been a horrific ordeal a very manageable process. read more

I brought my car in for the 30K service. I knew the bill would be around 400. Then the add ons started. Subaru recommend changing the fluid in both axles. The advisor said my fuel injectors were clogged and recommended they be serviced. He said my rear brakes were almost gone. They said they would check the fluid in the axles and I never heard anymore about it. I had the injector service done and I'll admit they had been clogged. I never had the injectors cleaned on my 260K Camry. I brought the car to an independent mechanic and he said I had more than half my brake life left. The Subaru advisor said I had maybe a thousand miles left. I had another issue repaired under warranty. I was there for 7 hours but it was expected. I'm going to go to another Subaru dealership for the 36K service then go to an independent shop. The brake issue gives me no confidence in Modesto Subaru. I was going to purchase my next car from them but I'll go elsewhere. read more

My husband has been dealing with issues with his brand new car for a year now and been to multiple different dealerships to handle these problems that should be covered under his vehicle warranty but has been treated absolutely ridiculous! He has been struggling so much with these issues that arent his fault and his vehicle has been in buy back territory since July of 2014 starting with Napa Subaru and Fairfield Subaru up until recently when we decided to come to this dealership (Modesto Subaru)! This is the first dealership we have been to that has actually cared about not only fixing his car issues but the well being of their customers! Unfortunately that sort of kindness and concern for customers is rare is any field of work let alone this business and my husband didn't even purchase his subaru from this dealership and they are still willing to bend over backwards to take care of us. They have gone above and beyond to make things as convenient as possible for us both during this very difficult and stressful time dealing with these issues for the last year with his car. Brittany deserves huge kudos & a raise for being the most amazing employee in the service department. She has completely saved us in times of need and on a crunch made things happen for us to get our car into their shop and left with a rental without any issues. She has such a sweet and funny personality and it is always a pleasure to see her or deal with her whenever we need anything. My husband and I are moving almost 2 hours away from this dealership and both have agreed that we will specifically drive completely out of our way to get anything done that he needs for his car at this dealership no matter what! LONG STORY BUT WORTH THE TIME TO READ...DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR $ AT SUBARU IN MODESTO ON MCHENRY!!! Never would I have ever thought that I was going to get a car from them that was just going to be a Headache!!. I decided to go to Subaru since I found a pretty good deal on a used car on their website. Also because they are a pretty known dealership. Little did I know that it was just going to be a Nightmare! The first time I tried filling it up with gas it overspilled and got on me. I did try adding more after it clicked which I know is a sign that it is full. But I turned the key to see if it filled up all the way and it was not. So I tried adding a little more when it went all over the place. I just thought it might be the type of car that I need to drive for a bit before it shows as full. It did not work and the gauge just stayed at the line before the full line. I kinda ignored it until it did it again. So i called to schedule something on my next day off. So On the 2nd wk almost going to the 3rd that I bought my car it almost left me stranded!! (Out of all days it had to happen on my Bday) all the lights on the dash board came on and then it did not want to accelerate and the check engine light stayed on. I pulled over and turned it off. I waited a bit and then turned it back on. It turned on and I drove back home paranoid, because it still felt like it was going to turn off at any moment. I couldn't take it in since this all happen at night. I took it in first thing in the morning (already an inconvenience because I had to get to work late) and they shuttled me to work. I told them what was wrong and told them about the gas gauge issue too. They were fast and did fix the problem in regards to why it was not wanting to accelerate. They also stated they had "fixed" the gas gauge problem as well by unplugging the battery. They stated it showed as the problem solved. It WAS NOT SOLVED....too much more to this story so I will cut it short. After 4 times to Subaru the problem FINALLY got fixed and Now It OVERHEATS!!! NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER BUY A CAR FROM THEM OR REFER ANYONE TO THEM!! read more

I will not bash the other dealerships I visited throughout the week, but none of them were Subaru dealerships and there is a huge difference Subaru places on the customer interaction. At no time did I feel pressured or bothered to make a purchase and everyone was very respectful and kind. I specifically dealt with Rick Alshafie as my Sales Advisor, Crystal the finance manager and Perry the Sales manager but Im sure the rest of the staff is equally as supportive. I understand that dealerships are in the business of making money but at no time did I feel pressured to make a decision although they stayed late to ensure I made a comfortable, correct decision. Crystal even went above and beyond what I expected to deal with when financing a car. I would highly reccomend visiting Modesto Subaru if you are in the market for a new car. Went in to buy my leased vehicle that I had $14,049 residual left to pay. Told me they were giving a sweet deal on a extended warranty making it cost 15,500. So I was like ok sounds good bumper to bumper, 10 year, plus maintenance, but still unsure so I took home to review. Came back in to buy the car a week later number had changed to $16,800. Sat and listened to to the sales price pitcg and why it had changed. Three hours later, when they brought me the paperwork to sign to buy out the vehicle plus warranty was now $19,800!?!? The initial purchase price of the vehicle 3 years ago was a little over $20000. We had already payed at this point $10,500. Looked at the itemized list of charges. Warranty was now over $2000 which had originally been $1700 deal the manager offered, charged a aftermarket fee $450 both sales men had a different definitions of what it was, $1500 just to process the paperwork, $180 inspection fee only reasonable part of this sale, and also tried to charge me sales tax a second time of $1500. Went home called the bank 10 minutes later they we're sending me paperwork I needed. Purchased the lease for $14100 hassle free from chase. Watch yourself they price gouge and will try to screw you over if your not paying attention. If you are leasing a vehicle from them go straight to bank even if the dealership is begging you to come in and hand it with them. read more

My service was absolutely horrible. My car was working absolutely fine, Newer still, and after taking it in for the first time to this dealership for a regular service and break fluid exchange, my breaks started squeaking after the service right away when they were perfectly fine before. I had to take it back to their dealership for this problem they created that was not there prior. I made an appointment and they told me the time was only for the paperwork, not getting it in for service as a priority. If I knew this, I would have just taken it in earlier instead of waiting all week for an appointment. I had also ordered a shuttle and when I got there they said they had no shuttles on Saturday. I am waiting here for service now and if they tell me I have a huge bill for new breaks I will post again. I will NEVER be using this dealership again!! Valvoline could have done 100% better and I would have been in and out. Okay... so update... The dealership said I needed brand new rotorers, which I was so upset about because they had just checked them and they were fine weeks before, but they DID make it right by deciding to pay for everything themselves because of the situation. My wife and I decided on a 2013 Subaru Outback a couple months ago and when it came time to buy I got e-quotes from four different dealers and Modesto came back with the lowest price BY FAR..$3400 below MSRP and about $1200 below invoice (got from Edmunds.com). The two gentlemen in the internet sales department (George and Ron) were both absolutely amazing throughout the entire sales process. When I told them which color and options I wanted they didn't have one in stock but were able to get one from up north the very next day! When I went into the dealership to do the paperwork I let them know that I had already obtained financing through my credit union and there was no need to do a credit check for the Subaru finacing. They were totally fine with this and didn't give me the typical "we can save you money with our finacing" bit you get from most dealers. They did however make me fill out a credit app "because of the Patriot Act" which I think is complete B.S. but whatever...they assured me they wouldn't pul my credit so I was fine with it. They also didn't try to push the extended warranty or any overpriced accessories on me which I really appreciated. The finance manager was great too and was completely up front with everything. The one thing that rubbed me the wrong way a tiny bit was they included the $250 window etching without my consent and made it seem like it was standard with all their cars. I have read on the internet that you can have them remove this fee but I decided not to make a stink considering how much cheaper the car was than anyplace else. When I handed them the check and they gave me the keys George went out to the car with me and went over every single feature and made sure I was 100% comfortable with the car. He also offered to do the same for my wife should she decide she needed some help with the car which I thought was really nice. Should I decide to buy another Subaru in the future I will not even consider going anyplace else. Thank you Modesto Subaru! read more
