I couldn't tell you how relieved I was to find the exact SUV I wanted, and that's just the beginning of our great story. I wasn't quite sure about driving all the way out an hour away to a car I hadn't seen before, but it was certified so that made me feel better. When my wife and I arrived there, we were impressed with the entire facility, and then we were greeted with a very warm welcome by Josh our salesperson. Review for Modesto Subaru Service Department I purchased my Subaru from Modesto Subaru a few years ago, and that experience was truly excellent -- above and beyond. Unfortunately, my first visit to their service department for a real issue (beyond routine oil changes) was a major disappointment. At just 60,900 miles, my dashboard suddenly lit up like a Christmas tree -- check engine light included. With the 60K powertrain warranty expired, I assumed I'd be paying out of pocket. The car was running fine, no mechanical issues, just persistent warning lights. We scheduled a 9:30 a.m. service appointment, only to be told they'd need to keep the car overnight -- something that should've been mentioned when booking. We stayed in town, hoping it was something minor, maybe electrical. By 2:30 p.m., I still hadn't heard a word from our service advisor, Robert. I called and got his voicemail. Minutes later, I received a long text (not even a call) with diagnostic codes I couldn't understand -- except for one thing: a potential $7,000+ repair. When I called back, Robert answered and claimed he had tried to call earlier (though I had no missed calls or voicemails). He vaguely explained the codes and said they needed to "go deeper" into the diagnosis -- which meant removing the entire engine, just to figure out what the issue might be. That alone would cost $2,900. When I asked for clarification, he was short and dismissive. Even my husband, who knows a fair amount about cars, was left confused. We decided to leave the car there overnight to think it over. The next day, no one called us with an update. I had to reach out again, and once more, Robert was unhelpful and curt. He claimed we hadn't changed our oil since January 2024 -- which was completely false. We called our trusted local shop and confirmed the last oil change was in October 2024. Still, we agreed to an oil change at Subaru just in case it might help clear the warning lights. Eventually, we declined the full engine teardown. We picked up the car, and funny enough -- no warning lights were on when we got home. After doing our own research and with input from a friend, we decided to replace the battery ourselves. And guess what? Problem solved. No more lights. It's been over 500 miles, and everything's been running smoothly. So, were we being upsold on a costly repair that wasn't needed? Was it incompetence? Either way, a bad battery should have been the first thing checked. It's disappointing -- especially coming from a dealership. I won't be going back to Modesto Subaru's service department again. There are plenty of other places with more honest diagnostics and much better customer service. And Robert? Being a service advisor means you're the face of the experience. You should make customers feel informed and comfortable -- not ignored, dismissed, or pressured. Sadly, he failed at all of that. So we paid $200+ for a diagnosis which was never solved and we figured it out on our own. And thankful didn't fall for "the needing to remove the entire engine" for thousands of dollars to change a battery. read more

After paying $500 for plates and registration, I received only the former. I had to go to DMV and wait an hour for my registration and plate stickers. Worst handoff I have ever seen on a new car. They also tried to get $2500 to "recondition" my trade in. I told them Carvana wouldn't charge me anything for the same tradein value. What idiots, for even trying such nonsense. My advice? If they match your best price, buy it and get it serviced elsewhere. End your relationship ASAP. read more

Had an issue with my door opening from the outside. Made an appointment and was told I needed a new latch system when all that was needed was the door rod clip. They were able to order the clip but it was wrong and used a tie wrap to keep it place. They first tried to upsale me and then said they had an OEM part which they didn't and hurry rigged my door . I was very pleased with their service department. I had brought my vehicle in for a recall fix and regular maintenance. The intake was super quick. We got a loaner car for free for the day. If you want a loaner car, make sure you have your id and car insurance with you. This process was also was a super fast. There was no waiting around both times I was there. Modesto Subaru is the worst! I took my Outback in almost a year ago for an oil change and the technician overfilled the oil causing my car to smoke. I took it back in to have them fix this problem and they assured me the car wasn't affected by their negligence. For my troubles they promised me a free oil change in the future. I should have known better. I took it in yesterday for the free oil change and the technician left the oil drain plug so loose you could turn it with your hand. There was a puddle of oil on my driveway. Thank goodness I noticed the puddle before the plug came completely off and my car blew up from all of the oil draining out. Do not take your car to them!!!!! read more

This is not so much about the dealership as the car itself. Every person I know that's owned a Subaru has raved about them. Leased a new vehicle. There have been 2-3 times the car wouldn't start at first. On the second or third try, it would start up. My biggest complaint is Apple Car play. It works approximately 60% of the time. Firstly, you HAVE TO connect it to a USB port in order for it to work. Even then, no guarantees. If you do connect wirelessly, you cannot make calls, use Waze and the music skips like a record player would. Some people may not consider this an issue but for me it is a major issue. My spouse has Apple Car play in their vehicle (different make). Neither of us have any problems connecting wirelessly and can use Waze, play music, and make calls. I have tried messaging the person at this Subaru dealership who helps with Apple Car play issues to see about setting up an appointment and do not get a response. However, they may have moved on. I had debated on keeping the car once the lease was up, however at this point, I'm considering going back to the previous make of car I had before this Subaru. I certainly won't be recommending a Subaru vehicle to anyone in the near future. read more

Let me just say that I can not give this dealership and salesperson enough stars! They were truly amazing and I had the pleasure of working with Emily. She is what made the experience, dare I say a pleasure and even fun. Emily was so laid back but very knowledgeable and low pressure and always offering me great information and above and beyond service. I have been in sales most of my life and she is bar none one of the best I have experienced. This dealership sells the most Subaru's in California and now I know why. I was able to take advantage of their end of January sale and all of the other dealerships weren't even in the ballpark to the deal I received. Enrique in finance was also excellent and I received an awesome deal on the seven year warranty, the maintenance plan and the paint and interior ceramic coating and warranty. The coating and warranty was $500 less than the other quote that I received and shopped around for. So I purchased the car and all of the other additional add on's from Subaru Modest. Emily offered to do the transaction over the phone and electronic signing. The following day she took the day off to deliver my new ride about five hours round trip. Who does that?!! Well Emily of course!! She was also so sweet and kind and just plain nice to be with. Modesto Subaru better treat her like a princess because someone may steal her away, no joke! Did I mention that the car rocks as well? Well it does and I love the XT with the turbo that has some serious punch and can tow up to 3500 lbs. The XT is definitely more expensive but it's worth every penny and it's a total no brainer upgrading to the 260 hp. It is also by far the most comfortable car that I've ever owned and it slices through all of these windy and atmospheric rivers we've been experiencing. I'm actually surprised I haven't written a review for our favorite Subaru dealership/ maintenance garage. I speak so fondly of Subaru and their customer service but the main place that takes the trophy home is Modesto Subaru. They have been an absolute pleasure to work with every time we come in and need service for our 2018 Outback. The customer service is A++ and it never dips in anyway. We recently just had to take a unexpected trip after we got a flat tire. while the tire was being removed one of the bolts that holds the tire in place snapped off with the lug nut. Totally unexpected but what can you do especially the day before thanksgiving. I instantly called Subaru Modesto around 1 in the after noon and spoke to service, they unfortunately informed me that they didn't have any appointments for the day. He put me on a brief hold while speaking to the technicians and they said they could squeeze us in. Thankfully we live 5 minutes away! We arrived and they got us settled in even if I caused a bit of confusion of what service needed to be done, but that didn't stop them from having our car up and fixed in about an hour. Seriously saved the day and made a frustrating situation so much smoother thanks to the reps. I'm bummed I didn't get their names and I should make a point to do so, but they are very much appreciated. We will definitely be coming back again and again and when I plan to purchase our next Subaru (which is a given) I'll be coming here. read more

I've been going to Modesto Subaru for about 10 years. The people there have been generally friendly and helpful. My Subaru has had a lot of expensive issues over the years though. Not uncommon to sink $2-6k into it every 18 months or so. Recently I had to take it in for a diagnostic regarding vibrations. It was also due for an oil change and some other maintenance. I went ahead and added these things (MY BAD, I accept this) but conveyed I wasn't sure it made sense to do these if the vibration was something catastrophic. Well, I got the call that repairs would be $6k. But they had already done the oil change and maintenance BEFORE doing the diagnostic for vibrations. I think this reflects either 1) Poor process. Maybe regular maintenance orders are managed separately from diagnosis of problems instead of looking at them holistically. 2) Lack of common sense in how to order services; or 3) Intentionally taking advantage of clients. read more
