I brought my brand-new Toyota bZ to Toyota Modesto because I wanted to verify that the high-voltage battery was functioning properly. The vehicle is still covered by Toyota's factory warranty, and my only request was to have the battery evaluated to confirm that it was operating within Toyota's specifications. During my visit, I was informed that I would be charged a $200 diagnostic fee if no warrantable defect was found. I was told the fee would only be waived if a defect covered by the warranty was identified. As a customer, this was unexpected. My concern was not to obtain a free repair, but to ensure that a major component of a brand-new vehicle was functioning properly. I believe it is reasonable for customers to seek confirmation that a new vehicle is operating as designed without having to risk a diagnostic charge if no defect is ultimately found. The service staff treated me professionally and explained the dealership's policy. My concern is not with the employees, but with the policy itself and the customer experience it creates. I respectfully ask Toyota Modesto and Toyota Motor North America to review this practice and consider whether customers with legitimate warranty concerns on new vehicles should be required to assume the cost of diagnostics simply because the vehicle is ultimately found to be operating within specifications. Sales department is fine, but service OMFG! Talk about a nightmare! Showed up for recall work and had an appointment. Sadly, I live out of their drop-off area for the shuttle so I was stuck in the dealership for over 7 hours before finally typing up this review (car still isn't done) the service manager I dealt with was great, but whoever was doing the work. I should have been compensated for wasting my day. There is NOTHING within walking distance and I'm not familiar enough with the area to even attempt to leave to get food. Vending machines are way over priced, and there is a CC surcharge added to everything including the stinking vending machines. I wouldn't recommend this dealer to anyone even if it was the only dealer left on the planet! 4 hours was the recall work time estimate. Took in excess of 7.5 hours! Livid is an understatement. If I ever have to come back to this dealer, I'm going to bring someone else with a car so I am not trapped for the entire day wasting my life away getting nickle and dimed to death. Costco $0.25 bottle of water is $1.60 with the CC fee. I'd give ZERO stars if it was an option!! I am going to give credit where credit is due though. Aaron England checked on the car for us a few dozen times and was very apologetic. Sadly it feels like the management isn't really interested in keeping the service department properly staffed. We bought my car from Modesto Toyota. Hubby got a text about recall work and we came to drop off the car at 10am. There was an initial estimated time of 4-6 hours. We are not sure how far the shuttle goes or how long it would take for sure. We walked for a bit but then came to sit and wait and wait and wait. Hubby went up to check at the 4 hour mark and the person said the original estimated time is 4-6 hours. I listed my vehicle on Facebook Marketplace and clearly disclosed that it is currently leased, as I was exploring a lease buyout. I was contacted by someone claiming to be an employee at this Toyota dealership who said they were actively looking for used car inventory and strongly encouraged me to bring my vehicle in for an appraisal. To be cautious, I verified that he actually worked there--he even provided proof of identification. I also made it very clear, multiple times, that my vehicle is leased. Based on that information, I took time out of my day to visit the dealership. When I arrived, I provided the two names I had been given, and they took my car for about 20 minutes to inspect and test drive it. After waiting, I was told they were "not aware" the vehicle was leased and therefore couldn't move forward. At that point, the situation felt not only disorganized but misleading. I had clearly communicated from the beginning that the car was leased, and the person who contacted me had every opportunity to confirm whether this was something the dealership could actually handle before asking me to come in. Instead, I was encouraged to make the trip under false pretenses. It felt like a bait-and-switch tactic to bring customers in, along with a clear misrepresentation of their ability--or willingness--to handle lease buyouts. I understand that not every deal will work out, but being brought in under misleading circumstances and having my time wasted is not acceptable. This reflects a serious lack of communication and professionalism. I want to preface by saying that I am a young man looking to finance his first vehicle, a used truck. I had spoke with Derek Uhley at the beginning of the week and made an appointment for today @ 4PM. I called ahead of time and requested to come an hour early, which Derek said was fine. I looked over the vehicle for a few minutes and gave it a test drive. Everything was going well until I went inside to look at numbers. I was not looking to make a purchase today, and made it perfectly clear that I only wanted an estimate for financing - not a credit check - and a printout of the numbers. I mentioned that I was exploring other options, and I was interrogated on what they were. To cap it all off, not even 45 minutes into my interview, Derek quite literally stood up, told me to let him know when I made a decision, and walked off citing that he "had other guests to attend to." I am outraged by the unprofessional attitude of the sales person Derek Uhley, and I am reconsidering ever doing business with this dealership again. Car was perfectly fine till one day I came out and the battery way dead that had never happend before so I did a bit of investigation and found out toyota put a battery with a crack near the base of the negative terminal in the car, I ended up calling them back asking them to be fair and meet me in the middle due to some time passing but toyota tried to put all the blame on me and calling a cracked battery case common ware and tare.
