They were able to get me in fast, and had part replaced within an hour of two. Explained what the issue was (check engine light) and the most likely causes. He replace a solenoid and said if the problem come back to return and they would due the other one at no charge. He knows his stuff, because so far two days later no light. Over a decade ago, I was 3 months pregnant and the father of my child was abusing me in front of Panera, in the parking lot but Mr. Robinson did not hesitate , he came out so quick and started yelling at my abuser. I've been taking my very old car to Robinson's for about 8 years, and never once have he and his crew let me down. This is my go-to shop for regular oil changes; but they've also done major repairs, including diagnosing and fixing a broken cable which another mechanic told me would cost $1300 just to diagnose the problem!! Robinson fixed the problem for a tiny fraction of that estimate - and I mean tiny! Robinson is a superior mechanic and also a very kind human being. I can recollect several times when I've stopped by his business to ask a "silly" question about my car's performance, and rather than shake me off or ask me to make an appointment, he took the time to listen, and even consider a solution, right in the spot. I don't recommend bringing your vehicle here if you have purchased an extended warranty from another car dealership. We brought our vehicle to be fixed and confirmed that we could use our extended warranty. When we arrived, we were told that we would have to pay a diagnostic fee of anywhere between $160 and $250 but could not give an exact diagnostic price. Our insurance covers the diagnostic, but we were told that we would have to pay out-of-pocket in order to have the car diagnosed, and that they would not work with our extended warranty, which covers the diagnosis. Very disappointed because we have brought multiple cars to Robinsons and have always received great service. Now this business seems to be more worried about making a quick $100, rather than taking care of customers who would provide business for them. It just seemed like they didn't want to deal with the warranty and insurance. read more

Robinson Autoworks was a bit hard to find because Google & Apple Maps are not 100% accurate, but it was worth finding them (they are next to Panera in that shopping center FYI). They were able to assess the problem with my truck, give me an honest outlook at the potential for repair costs, and they complete the work quickly. During a cross country trip with my daughter, out Honda Pilot developed a serious power steering leak 2,000 miles (literally) from home. We stopped in Modesto for the night, and the next morning the power steering reservoir was empty! I checked YELP for a repair shop and found Robinsons. We made it to his shop before it opened. When Rob opened, I walked in and explained our situation. He immediately took our vehicle in, even though he had at least 5 others in front our ours. Within 30 minutes he diagnosed the problem. He offered us options or ordering a part, but the auto parts store could not get it until the next day. Or, he could perform a "quick fix" that wasn't a repair, but would help us at least get home. We choose the quick fix. Another hour later he was done. I went to pay, and he said "NO CHARGE!" I was stunned. Wish I could do more than write this review. What a man and business, and wished I lived near Modesto for all my vehicle repairs. read more

I have been going with Robinson ever since I got my license at 16 so 5 years now. He has been my dad's mechanic since the early 2000s. He and his staff (Lui) treat their customers like family. My dad is a businessman and has no problem telling people what he thinks. When it comes to Robinson, he can't say enough good things. He makes room, sacrifices, and saves as much as he can for you. I once went there and he didn't charge me because the only reason my check engine light was on was that my gas lid was open. When it comes to mechanics, trust is always the main thing. You can trust Robinson. I tell him to ask people to review him but he says if people do it on their own it is because it comes from the heart. That's the kind of businessman he is. He is here to serve you and get you the best deals possible. Never has my family not trusted Robinson or gone anywhere else. I don't know what else I can say but find me someone better than here. I am surprised this place has received as many 5 star ratings as it has. My car was randomly not starting when I put the key in the ignition so i took it in this morning to see what Robinson could do. He had me leave the keys with him and he said he would call shortly to let me know what the issue was. After 6-7 hours and many calls/vmails on my part to check in, It was only after I had my bf call from his phone (and after 2-3 times of calling) that he got a response. The response was OK and he basically told him I could pick up the car. Robinson was nice enough to let me get the car 30 minutes after their official closing but when i did pick it up he told me the only way to fix it was a $2000-2500 replacement and charged me $90 for this diagnosis. I totally understand that parts can be expensive to replace but the entire lack of communication really put me off. Especially since this was the first time trying this place and handing my keys off without any word all day only to have a bill for something that he did not discuss with me prior. I definitely am not trying to bash this place, I am sure they do a lot right given the great reviews but hopefully he will take this as constructive feedback to try and be communicative and be upfront with your customers about cost/timing/etc. read more

On June 8 2015 I was in Modesto Calif visiting my 96 year old grandma. It was 108 outside and we were going to the mall. My car started to over heat and I saw Robinson Auto Works on McHenry Ave. I drove to the shop and explained what my car was doing. He advised I go next door to Burlington Coat Factory where it was cool and wait till he can check my car. Within the hour he fixed the issue and did not charge me for his time. I believe the Lord sent me to Robinson Araujo. His heart was on the care of my grandma and getting my car back in working order. He's saved me money, which is rare for a mechanic, and he has bent over backwards to hook me up when needed. A story for context: my wife's car broke down at 5pm. I called Robinson and said I was going to have the car dropped off at his shop that night for him to look at the next day. An hour and a half later when AAA dropped off my car at his shop, Robinson and one of his guys were there to meet me. It's service like that shows you you've got a good mechanic. Absolute rip-off. Asked for price for work to be done, address oil leak (and change oil, duh), confirm problem w/ dashboard gauges related to previous identified problem w/ computer. Dropped off vehicle, waited for call-back. Hours go by, I call about an hour before closing. Owner tells me oil leak addressed and oil changed, a new fuel filter was installed, now he's checking the computer and injection system. The truck stays the weekend. My mistake, at this point, is I should have asked why I was not contacted before the work was done and given a price. I get a total price of $170. No additional fees for storage mentioned or billed (at least as far as I know, the owner refused to give me my change and receipt for the $410 he finally charged me. I paid $420,I expect $10 change) Monday a.m. comes, I try and contact owner to tell him I have a limited budget to work with. I get his voice mail. I call a 2nd time a bit later and make contact. Told by owner, he wants to look a little more, says he won't charge me for any extra time. I tell him, I need the truck back for work the next day. Says he'll call me before closing. He never calls. Around 4:30p I suddenly remember. My wife and I start rushing to Modesto, from Ripon. I attempt contact again, get voice mail. The final bill was over $400, for technically unauthorized work that became an obligation. I will never do business with him again. There are honest mechanics that respect their customers, but this ain't of one! read more

I needed my back brakes serviced so I took my minivan to Firestone first and they gave me a list of things that were wrong with my brakes and gave me an estimate for $650. I then took my van to Robinson's and he told me that I did indeed need all the work that was listed but that it would only cost me $250. That is honesty. He could have charged me $500 and I would have jumped at the chance of saving the $150 but instead he was honest and did a great job on my van and earned a customer for life.
