Had a refurbished engine out into my 2008 Subaru Outback after the head gaskets went out. Less than two years later the head gaskets have blown out again. I had to purchase out of staye plates and the DMV wanted to charge me nearly $2,000 for plates in WA State, because I did not have the paper work to show I paid it at the Modesto Subaru dealership in 2016. This dealership does not honor the extended warranties or window coverage that they sell you! Do yourself a favor and either don't buy an Outback or at the very least go to any other Subaru dealership. The following is what has transpired at this dealership in the past month. I walked out to my car on 07/06/2024 and there was a giant crack in my windshield. There were no pit marks and it looked like the window just cracked from the heat in the Central Valley. Mind you, this is the third time my window has cracked since purchasing this Outback in 2022 because they use such thin glass and have poor quality windows. In fact, they are of such terrible quality Subaru of America is currently involved in a class action lawsuit over their windshields. Had I known about how terrible their windows were when I bought the car, I never would have purchased it, but I digress. I also need to note that when we purchased the vehicle, we took out multiple extended warranties/coverages through Subaru including window coverage. I was headed to get an oil change there anyway so since I was headed to the dealership I spoke to an individual at the service desk that said they would file the claim since I had a warranty and they would call me back. And this is partly my fault because I didn't get the name of the guy who was helping me, but they never called me back. Finally, after multiple calls later that week to try to see if they had done anything about my window all they could do was bounce around my call but never assign anyone to help me. So on 07/13/2024, I headed back to the dealership because when they were doing my oil change they noticed I had a nail in my tire and I needed a new tire. Again, I have tire coverage so this was paid for, but as I have had to do in the past with previous issues, I had to point out that I had extra warranty protection and had to hound them to file a claim. Anyway, at this time I was finally assigned Caleb as a service advisor for my window. He said he would call and file the claim. Well, of course I didn't hear back and I left a few messages so on 07/18/2024 I finally got a hold of Caleb who said my window was covered under the warranty and they were going to order the part and replace it and he would give me a call in a couple of weeks when the window came in. I waited the couple of weeks and I call Caleb and leave a couple of messages, but they don't get returned. Finally, on 08/07/2024 I want to know where my window is and I call again. Well, they bounce me around to three people in the morning and then finally have me leave a message with a service manager. When the service manager still has not called me back in the afternoon, I call back again. This time I get Heather who tells me she needs to talk to her director about this issue because apparently Caleb and several other people are "no longer with the company" and they call me back and tell me that my window is not covered any longer under the warranty that they sold me! Basically, they can just decide that since you actually have to use the coverage they sold you that they don't need to honor it. They also basically insinuated that since I don't have a voicemail from Caleb that I am lying to them about what he said to me about the extended coverage I have on my vehicle and they have fired everyone that can corroborate my story. I never got a voicemail because I have almost never been able to get anyone at that service department to call me back. Her director also calls me after I am now upset because I have been strung along for a month and lied to after paying thousands of extra dollars for coverage that is now not being honored and the best I get is, "We understand you're upset. We will have a sales manager call you to see if we can get you a discount on a window replacement and talk about your extended coverage." Can you guess who never called me? The sales manager. So basically, this dealership messed around with me for a month, lied to me, and then doesn't stand by their product or the warranty they sold me. I will never take my car here ever again, nor will I ever buy a Subaru again. I am in the process of taking this complaint up with the corporate arm of Subaru of America but I doubt it will get anywhere since this is yet another company that won't stand by their product or their warranty. I had a Ford for 14 years with an extra extended warranty that was always honored and was a reliable car that didn't have nearly the amount of issues my Subaru has had in the first two years of ownership. I should have just stuck with them. I hope this review convinces at least one person not to buy an Outback or at the very least not buy it from this nightmare of a dealership. read more

The true measure of a brand and dealership is how they treat you and service your vehicle after you purchase it. On a late Saturday morning, I found a screw in one of my tires. I stopped in unannounced to Modesto Subaru and asked if they could help me. I was planning a trip to the mountains on Sunday, and I couldn't consider doing that with a tire issue. They brought my 2022 Forester in and they did a basic inspection. They were able to patch my tire, so I wasn't faced with the cost of a new tire. On the inspection, they also found an alignment issue with the 4 wheel drive system, and they fixed this under my maintenance plan. So all is well and my trip to the mountains is back on. We recently purchased a new vehicle from there. I am giving two stars because it was not a smooth process. First we where given our rate and payment on one the day we said lets do the deal. (Over the internet/Phone) but they supposedly didnt submit the paperwork that day so our rate changed the next day when it came time to deliver and sign. After arguing they adjusted the price of the vehicle so the payment matched the one with a lower rate. The second thing is when I took my wife to the dealership I told the gentleman whatever model she wants is ok as long as it has remote start. The model she purchased did not have remote start. When I went back to the salesman after the car was delivered and I figured this out they said it was on us to know what we picked. I tried to explain my only request but they just came back with if I pay them 600 to ad this feature. They said that was half price but my local shop can do it for less than their half. SO this has not been resolved. Third we where sold on the benifits of the Starlink system and how it interacts with the car. What they didnt tell us is that it doesnt come with the car and would require and additional monthly service fee to have access to its features. I believe we where misslead on this. They did make it so I dont have to give my CC for the trial but after that we will no longer have a feature that was highlighted to us multiple times. My husband took our Legacy into Modesto Subaru because he noticed oil leaking from the rear differential. They came back with a diagnosis of a leak from the rear main seal. It would cost approximately $1900.00. My husband was baffled by the diagnosis and decided to get a second opinion. He took it to another shop, told them what Modesto Subaru said was the problem and asked them to give him an estimate for the repair. That afternoon he received a call from the shop telling him that the problem wasn't with with real main seal but the real differential. An appointment was made and the repair done. The problem is that not only was the diagnosis wrong but it cost us $195.00! He called Subaru and spoke to a person there who offered to give us credit. He said he would prefer a refund. She said she would take it up with the front office and get back to him. This has been over 3 weeks and we have heard nothing. The Subaru Legacy is by far one of the best cars we have ever had. We have had all of our work done at Modesto Subaru and always received great service. Our game plan was to buy another Subaru next year and give our car to our granddaughter. The problem is they were going to fix a problem that would have cost us $1900.00 that was not a problem and we would still have had the original problem. Obviously this has left a bad taste in our mouth and we are contemplating getting a Toyota Avalon as our next car. We believe Modesto Subaru is a good company and always seem honest. But they didn't listen to my husband, didn't catch the problem, were planning to fix a "problem" that didn't exist and charged us $195.00 for the wrong diagnosis. My recommendation to anyone who has a problem is to get a second opinion from another shop before you have work done at Modesto Subaru. They did say they would match prices with any other company so keep that in mind! We are still waiting for a call back from Modesto Subaru and hope that they will do the right thing and refund our money After posting this review Modesto Subaru reached out to us and we were able to come to an amicable agreement concerning the $195.00. This outcome is not surprising since this is a company we have dealt with for almost 11 years and have always found them to be honest and upright. Not good, not good at all. I went to purchase a WRX. Sales guy came down $3000 on price which wasn't the most generous, given that they got 30 plus WRXs' in stock that are just sitting on the lot.The big disappointment was the sales tactics. The salesman pushed the "GAP" insurance. Now I understand the reason for GAP insurance when purchasing a car at MSRP or over. It protects the buyer by covering the total lost of the vehicle given a accident where the insurance only pays what the car is worth (remember the depreciation after you drive any car off the lot) and not what you owe. In some cases, if you purchase far over MSRP and don't get the "GAP" insurance, you can be liable for the remaining loan which can be thousands. But in my case, the value and agreed purchase price was way under MSRP, which in my case purchasing the "GAP" insurance was an add on and not warranted at all. Again, deceitful salesman. If they are willing to do that, what else might be lurking in the waters. This is a clear sign to go elsewhere. read more

Continue to have issue with my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek and the Modesto Subaru Service Dept. Their cars are garbage. Everything from interior rattles, to auto dimming mirror malfunctioning, and The Adaptive Cruise Control/Auto Braking malfunctioning. The Service Dept has terrible follow through and doesn't know what is going on in their own shop. Drop it off on Monday Evening after scheduling it for service and they couldn't find the scheduled service. So we re-scheduled it for Tuesday for all the inspections and repairs. Then I get a call on Thursday afternoon asking what we are doing with the vehicle. Because they haven't looked at it? The quality of their cars and the Service Dept leave a lot to be desired. read more

Terrible first impression. Worse second impression. I started on the website, where they didn't list the price for a car until you put your info in. That alone used to be reason enough to hate a dealership, but these days it's becoming the sad norm. So a guy emailed me shortly afterward (expected) and I called to ask about bringing my current vehicle in for trade appraisal. They literally hung up on me, twice. Finally I told the girl on the phone to stop trying to transfer me and just get whoever was available on the line. The guy who answered then was nice enough, and said to come on by any time for an appraisal. I did, and he was still friendly in person and seemed pretty normal. Things were looking up, I thought. Then his manager tried to low-ball me on the trade-in, by several thousand dollars. He apparently thinks nobody checks what their trade-in value should be before going there. The friendly guy asked what I'd like the offer to be, as if I were then going to be in the mood to haggle. That's not how you start a haggle. I walked out. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this service center. We were traveling when our car decided to have issues. After explaining our situation and circumstances, they were able to fix our large problem within a day and had a loaner vehicle for us to use so it didn't make a dent in our trip. Parts dept is a joke. They have rude staff that don't like their job or know how to talk to customers. I called here a number of times and today was the final straw. I asked the guy to speak louder cause I couldn't hear him and he tells me "unfortunately I can't cause I'm in an office environment " since when is the parts dept an office environment? lol. He had me on speaker phone and was too lazy to pick up the phone that's what it really was. But the fact is I asked him for help and how much a valve gasket would cost me and he got attitude and made it seems as if it was an inconvenience for him to help me. Where Subaru Modesto shines is their service department, yet lately trying to get an appointment has been really tough. I had a very simple, efficient, and pleasant car buying experience with Modesto Subaru. My inquiry started online and Jose promptly got back to me to let me know when the car I was looking at would arrive at the dealership. I put down a refundable $500 deposit and sure enough, the car arrived when Jose said that it would (it took about 2 weeks). There was zero pressure to purchase any additional warranties or add-ons. I was able to complete a credit application at home online, upload documentation (CADL and proof of insurance), and I was approved for a 3.9% loan. I arrived at the dealership the following day, waited for another customer to finalize their purchase, then signed papers and drove my new car off of the lot about 40 minutes later. If I could give zero stars I would. This place takes quite some time to service your vehicle. The best part is I went in for a tire rotation about 2 weeks ago and then when I went to take my tires off myself come to find out they stripped a lug nut and stud and just zip it tight and called it good. Never told me about it or anything. They are suppose to do a inspection on the car I put my car up on lift come to find oil leaks everywhere which they never told me about. And finding all sorts of little things wrong that they should have caught but they just look past it. My car was taken in for a transmission fluid change and other maintenance and these mechanics couldn't even properly change the oil. They put double the amount of oil in my car resulting in my entire car getting flooded with oil. Ruining my spark plugs and seals. I also almost broke down on the Altamont. Always. Always. ALWAYS exceptional service. Doesn't matter who you talk to, they are always professional. Went in for an oil change and tire rotation and was out in less than an hour. They also found that my lights were out so they replaced all of those within that hour. Just watching how every staff member interacts with their customers is a breath of fresh air. One staff member even addressed a small child that he recognized from a previous service. Coffee, water and donuts are always stocked. Their waiting area is clean and has a lot of toys and books.
