I have now as of today, tried two different locations and I will review the East Bay Castro Valley location that just opened about a month ago in a separate review. This location is also in a shopping center, in the same lot as the theater. I stopped in for a take-out make my own MOD sized pizza. That is their original 11", they also have a mini which is 6" and a larger thick crust that is also 11", I did see that one at a table and it just didn't float my boat. I prefer a thin crust. The service was swift and I was in and out of there in 15 mins flat. I ordered: Mod Size White Sauce Mozzarella Cheese Asiago Cheese Red Onion Mushroom Pepperoni Pineapple 2nd: Mod Size Red Sauce Salami Pepperoni Onion *no cheese Brought it back home added some more pepperoni and heated it a little to make it more crisp. I know it's a weird combo but I really love all the flavors together, umani, sweet, sharp, spicy, rich and cheesy and a hint of garlic from the sauce. The crust was nice and thin and I crisped it up just a wee bit in the oven when I got back home. I highly recommend this place it's really yummy, also you can order as many of their 30+ toppings as you want for one flat price, pretty neato. It could not get 5 stars simply because of the lack of chopping of the veggies well and really sparse veggies. I can make this at home pretty easily but I'll try it again at a different location. read more

The pizza is really good for the price but the guy that is at the oven cooking the pizza is very rude.. I asked him for cheese, crushed peppes and ranch after he handed me my pizza and he just rolled his eyes. When the soda machine had no carbination the girls in the front were busy so i asked him "excuse me sir, the soda machine is not working" and he turned his back towards the oven on me. Initially I was disappointed to find out my Fav Pasta Pomadoro was being replaced by yet another pizza place in my area. Total exasperation on my end. Hubby on the other hand loves pizza. I knew how much hubby wanted to try (and I was hungry) so I let the door guy know "we were really hungry" how surprised was I when he said "The staff is going to kill me, but go ahead and enjoy!" Score! We were met by the most energetic.. friendly..CLEAN staff EVER! They have suggested Combos which you can add items..or you can create your own from scratch. The crust is thin ..crispy and delicious . When it comes out you can finish with a drizzle of your choice.. the Sweet fig glaze was screaming my name. The base price us 8.47 you can get as many toppings as you like. They have housemade Berry (I ) it was red.. lemonade OMG SO DELICIOUS! Only 2.00! We got ours to go so as not to disturb the " team building " that resembled more of a tad under lit gathering of cool friends. Arrived home pizza was the best! I'm sold on the customer service alone.. but to have the pizza be so satisfying as well.. I got the MOD size it's 4 nice sized slices. I could only eat two, so guess what's for dinner? Where do I start ? There aren't any visible menus to the folks in line until it's your turn. So after choosing the Phoenix 11" on a hurried whim i was confident my experience would be just that. I watched my pie clumsily scoot down the production line; a missed recipe item here and then there. I kept my mouth shut and did not criticize the 8 different hands that touched my pizza....but I should have. Once it came out of the oven I jumped up to see if a miracle had taken place---it had not. I asked the gentlemen who was cooking the pizzas to call mine by name. He couldn't. I told him that if he could call my pizza by name that I would tell them which ingredients they had skipped over and why. It was at that point that I had realized that similar screwups are regular practice at this place. I got to eat the wrong pizza, then Melvin gave me the right pizza. I even got a card for a free pizza on my next return. 3 for the price of 1 is a great deal until the negative trend is intercepted by the business manager and they're losing more profit than they're making. I've never been so disrespected by an employee before, until last night, 10/1, at around 8pm. My boyfriend and I use to love Mod Pizza, much more than Pieology. We ordered our food and as we walked away, an employee had the audacity to yell "rack city" while we were walking away. I mean he yelled it so loud the whole restaurant probably heard. I knew immediately that he was referring to me. I turned around to look at them and turned away to continue with my night. What a great employee Mod has chosen to represent their company!! Apparently these teenagers have no sense of respect or decency and think they can do or say whatever they want. I'm not stupid!! Moreover, the pizza was way off compared to what we normally have had. The ingredients were great as always. Unfortunately this was the second pizza I got that was burnt and bitter. I also had to pay double because it got left out of the order I'd made moments before. There is a fee for small orders. That's fine if the food is edible, and I don't mind a little bit of char here and there , but the broccoli was burnt as well. To add to the situation we ordered two salads and one was very well mad and the second very poorly made. I'm not quite ready to give up on MODS yet but I really hope this won't happen a third time . Tried out MOd Pizza for the first time last night. Since they just opened this weekend, we placed our order on the internet. It was a great idea because by the time we got to restaurant there was a long line and we were able to go right in to the front and pick up the pizza and be on our merry way. Daughter had the Mod pizza create your own pizza and loved it. Husband and I shared the mega Mod Jasper pizza and added bacon to it. That pizza was so good! Tried MOD for the first time, mostly as research since I live in the neighborhood and just discovered it was here. Nice layout and decor, modern design ala Habit. Wait in line on a Sunday afternoon was about 30 mins. Similar build your own concept as Pieology. Quality of pizza was good, particularly the crust, which was thin with a bite to it. Toppings had a lot of variety, satisfactory quality. As goes for most Vallejo chain establishments , service is below franchise standard. Hoping their management can get things straightened out before reviews become negative. As of now, I'm giving benefit of the doubt to it being new, we'll see if it improves with time. Although some are trying hard and well intending, most of the staff is fairly amateurish and disorganized, and a couple just didn't care. They got a lot of things wrong while I was watching other people's orders and my own, ie building my pizza on someone else's plate, being unable to find someone's order, reminding them I hadn't received our shake, etc. It's about high school level proficiency, and must be a rat race just for them to get through a day. That's the challenge of running a business in Vallejo, you have to hire Vallejo workers, which in general need to care more, work harder, pay attention to detail and be customer service oriented, not there because it's a job. Finally made it to one of these fast paced made to order make your own pizza spots. Got the usual mod and went with the basic to get an idea of how well it compared to other pizza chains. Base red sauce with mozzarella and added ricotta cheese. Went half pepperoni and this was ordered and baked in less than ten minutes. Fun fast paced staff that greets you as you walk in and drank an ice cold ipa and fountain drink. We also ordered a packed vehicle feast pizza. The ingredients were great and the pizza itself was awesome tasting with a nice thin yet floppy airy crust. Definitely will come again. read more

I wanted a fully loaded veggies pizza, not only that was met beyond my expectations but the manager named Anthony changed his gloves and told his whole team members to change their gloves as well. He also made sure I got a new pizza cutter to not cross contaminate previous pizzas with mine. His team members also used new boxes of veggies if they saw/ felt that they were touched by animal products. The pizza was so delicious! This place is what it is. My wife enjoys it and was satisfied with the price, the food and the quality for the price. The food itself for her (I didn't order anything, because I'm on a weight management program and I will waste calories on a superior bad calorie meal and not on "average" one. Still, this may have been 4 or 5 stars because my wife was pleased and happy as much as you can for this sort of place (no knock on the place, it just is what it is). The reason I give it 3 stars is for the seemingly inconsistent sanitary approach. Good: those preparing the pizzas were latex gloves. Bad: the guy pressing the dough and putting it on the pans for those preparing, did not. So what is the real need overall for wearing gloves to prepare a pizza, if someone with out gloves picks up a round of dough, plops it in the machine that flattens it, then removes it from the machine with a spatula and their bare hands, with multiple times folding so they grabbed it with both bare hands to straighten it out. Again, I didn't eat, but if you're going to do good with the sanitary aspects, go all the way and have anyone handling anything going into our mouths using gloves. read more

Management needs to step in. How can 2 different locations of the same franchise be so different? I have hit the MOD in Vallejo about 4 times. I have hit the MOD in Napa about 5. We order the same pizzas at both locations and the results are SO SO Different. Vallejo MOD sucks in comparison! Tonight was a "Kevin" and a "Mad Dog", both "mega". Dough dry and burned. Asked for some "roasted" garlic on one of the pizzas......Napa = Roasted Garlic. Vallejo = Pretty much Raw Cloves. Tonights Vallejo MOD was filthy. From the oven with a literal wall of burned pizza scrapings sitting at the front of the oven, to the greasy pizza boxes that my pizzas were boxed into. Novel thought, if your work surface is filthy, when you set the new boxes on the work surface, your boxes will be contaminated. NO Parmesan. Straws, lids, paper all over the floor by the drink machines. Tables uncleared....... Just an overall lousy experience. Either a manager that doesn't care, or a manager that was not there. Unfortunately, pretty similar conditions of the premises over the last couple of stops. All done here. read more

The custom-made personal pizza. A hot business these days! But these joints are becoming a dime a dozen, and not many can keep up the pace. I went to a yelp event for one of these places a few years ago. I thought they were good. Tasty enough pies. But in less than a year of their grand opening, they shut down. That's not a good thing. So, how is MOD in Vallejo? It's important to understand that this is the first of its kind here in V-Town. Sure, other cities have their Blaze's or Pieology's. But Vallejo never had any of these. Suddenly though, it does! A place like MOD is always a welcome addition here. Heck, any new business in Vallejo is welcome here, as long as they're good. So is MOD good? Happy to say: yes, yes it is. Going in here, you're greeted to decor that you don't find in many Vallejo spots. Comfy, modern, and plenty of space. Orders are taken in an orderly fashion. You choose your crust or salad, you systematically choose all your different toppings, and then they cook it up for you. All with friendly customer service. In a couple of minutes your custom pie comes out, hot and ready (and better than a Little Caesar's pie, that's for sure). I always finish my pizza off with a drizzle of the balsamic fig reduction. My pizzas always come out great. Absolutely no complaints. Crispy crust and the toppings are perfectly cooked. The custom pizzas here are a real treat. Is it as good as a genuine Italian pizza? No, of course not. But this is a top-tier place for a fast casual pie. And a great business in Vallejo. We need more places like that here. Clearly they don't care about their customers they have the patio open but with all tables dirty. I went there for my first time and not coming back. I ask to get a fresh dough because the ones outside had flies on top. When I ask someone to get a table clean up outside the guy tells me that they have plenty of table inside. I responded back and said I wanted to seat outside and he was like we don't have to clean it. The food here is really good and reasonable. But I have to agree with some of the other reviews. The service is awful. I've been 3 times. The first time was the better experience. However service was slow. The second time, I placed an order online. The estimated time was 30 minutes. When I arrived to pick up my order, it hadn't even been assembled yet nor made it to the oven. So it was just like I walked in and placed an order like everyone else standing in line. I sat and waited. The order came out piece by piece, not at the same time. The third time, I really wanted to see this place do better. There was one guy assembling pizzas and he was moving really slow. Immediately I noticed he had on gloves, but he kept pulling up his sagging jeans with those same gloves. He ran to the kitchen and grabbed the swinging door with those same nasty gloves to replenish some ingredients at the assembly station and without changing into a fresh pair of gloves, dug in and picked up where he left off preparing pizzas. I turned around and walked out. UNSANITARY!!!!! I commend MOD for hiring youth/ young adults and giving them jobs. However, they are not being trained properly. They don't appear to know the menu and move extremely slow while the lines are backing up. They need to get a working system together. Either they are understaffed or under bad management. MOD Pizza has always been a delicious tasting pizza, but tonight my experience was tainted. The fact that 2 locations who serve the same exact product could have 2 different outcomes baffles me. Tonight was not a good night to be at MOD Pizza as a worker or a customer. I understood the situation and how busy it was, but the service tonight was unacceptable. The first issue was I had to wait for my pizza to be done for about 30 mins, which was no big deal because I'm very patient and I understood how busy and short staffed they were. But then as I was about to eat my pizza my girlfriend pointed out there was a hair in my pizza! So I ended up having to walk back up to the counter to explain the situation. The 2 gentlemen upfront did not even acknowledge me or asked if there was anything wrong, so I had to abruptly interrupt them and let them know the situation. To make matters even worse the one gentlemen just took the pizza and didn't even apologize or explain how the situation would be handled (no offers of a refund or even a simple "Hey man, I'm sorry. I'll go ahead and fix this). So, I ended up having to wait another 20 mins for my second pizza. (I had to constantly check up on it because there was no communication on if my pizza was getting re-done or not.) Lastly, when I did get my pizza, it was not only burnt but completely the wrong order. I was so fed up that I didn't even want to re do my order. Management needs to step in and fix this place up from the way it is physically (trash everywhere, ranch on the floor) to its staff. There was no communication between the staff and customers. (I was not the only customer who received their pizza late.) So if you're planning to go here because you like MOD Pizza, I highly suggest you don't. Management needs to get on the ball and fix this place from the bottom up. This location is ruining MOD's reputation. read more

My 14 y/o son is an avid lover of Mod Pizza. My family which inc myself, my hubby and my only child supports This Mod Pizza quite frequently. My son's school also does fund raisers with this branch. Today after summer class, my son once again requested Mod pizza. I drove him to this location, handed him a $20 bill and instructed him to place his order while I stay in the car to respond to some work stuff. A few minutes later, my son was walking toward the car seemingly upset. I asked him what happened, he said he was told by the lady that he has to wait in the car because he coughed. I was even further confused when he was handing me the money back and said she didnt want to charge him. My son isnt ill btw. Like I said he was just getting out of summer class and they wouldnt allow anyone with any symptoms in the class without negative covid testing. My son said he accidentally swallowed his saliva the wrong way when he was talking while ordering and caused him to cough. I went in and male attendant pointed me out to "Amanda". She states she is the store manager. I asked her what happened and her initial response was " he was coughing so I told him he had to wait outside and I didnt even charge him for his drink and pizza." When I told her that my son said he accidentally swallowed his saliva the wrong way and caused him to cough, "Amanda" started escalating her story, a typical "Karen" trait. She said that my son was coughing all over and it didnt sound like he accidentally swallowed his spit that it sounded like a bronchial cough. Then "Amanda" proceeded to say that " i have alot to handle, we are in the middle if a pandemic, what would these people in line say if they heard him coughing." My son was fully masked the whole time, and if anyone has ever swallowed the wrong way you would know that it doesnt clear up by a little cough, it usually is deep and takes several coughing up to clear it. Im not sure what "Amanda" means by "bronchial cough" ? Coughing is a forceful hacking to release air or irritation from throat or airway. Airway is your bronchial tubes therefore cough is "bronchial." She again repeated that we are in the middle of a pandemic. So typical "Karen" behavior where a situation is told in a much bigger scale just to justify their targeting behavior. Again my son was fully masked, not sick, never again coughed our whole drive home. We followed the rule of the restaurant, he was fully masked the whole time. I give him sanitizing gel before he gets out of the car and when he comes back in. Are we in a pandemic, yes absolutely we are. But when a person tells you they arent sick that they just swallowed the wrong way, the right thing to do is to believe them. The law does not even allow you to discriminate against people that cant have mask on because of medical issues. The male attendant was very kind btw (sorry I didnt catch your name). So such a disappointing encounter and I feel bad for my son because essentially "Amanda" was calling him a liar. Oh and I insisted on paying for my son's food. read more
