The food is hands down outstanding. Pricing has gotten a little out of hand. Customer service, horrible. The salad bar is $11 for ONE trip. Wouldn't even allow me to put a quarter sized amount of ranch on my plate for pizza. They used to offer cups for your salad dressings. Now they charge. Such a shame. Staff was rude and checked out. Literally spent $60 and couldn't even get a ranch cup. If you have a customer dining in and spending that amount of money, and got the One trip salad bar surely you could humble yourself for a ranch cup. My wife and I decided to go for a drive and we went ended up driving to Benicia, CA. There we found Pizza Pirate located in Solano Square. Pizza Pirate has been around since 1972 and these "pirates" know how to make a mean pizza! The staff members were courteous and answered all our questions. Service was pretty fast and the ambiance of pirate themed pizza restaurant was cool with all the trinkets and pirate decor. We ordered Caribbean Joes (garlic cheese bread) and a medium half pizza of the month Sweet Heat half Porky and Bess. The food here was superb! No wonder they been in business before I was born. Our toddler was napping in her carseat so my hubby decided to surprise us and drive to a place he'd been wanting to check out! I was pleasantly surprised, never heard of this spot! We ordered the Caribbean Joes with Ranch, 1/2 Pizza of the Month "Sweet Heat" and 1/2 Pork & Bessy Pizza. Pizza Pirate has the cheesiest garlic bread and some incredible pineapple pizzas! I can see why they're so highly rated, 5/5 stars for the food alone!! I would definitely recommend this pirate themed pizza parlor serving high quality, freshly made dishes to Benicia since 1972! We have been coming here for years and when the ownership changed some time ago, we were wondering in which direction the quality would go. We were presently surprised the pizzas are even more tasty than they used to be. The only thing we miss from the past is the old salad bar. The new little tiny one is over priced for what you get. On the positive side of the new salad bar, it's closer to where it can be watched by management and so less likely to be contaminated and we have watched staff keep an eye on it and refresh it often. The A/C should be fixed. We have seen a repair tech working on it and it is still putting out hot air, which isn't nice on these hot days. The breadsticks are very good however the dipping sauce could be improved. For example, the marinara sauce should be hot and the ranch dressing should be cold, not the opposite. Again, the new owners have done a great job with keeping the pizza tasty along with the other foods. They do a really nice job keeping the tables cleaned up as well. Good job new owners. read more

Yippee-Skipee, after more than a half-decade hiatus, the salad bar is back! Maybe not as prolific as before, but it's good to see it back. It's $13.99 now, but AYCE of course. Not sure if it's a hard & fast rule, but thinking it best to use a fresh plate each time folks, no? The pizza's never been been my favorite here, some people swear by it. I've always found it middling, despite whoever owned & operated the restaurant through the years. But it looks great coming to the table. Might have to reconsider the pizza again soon, idk? Latest owner appears to be a younger-to-middle aged Asian gent who seems eager to please his customer base. Kudos to him and continued success with this iconic Benicia business. Another favorite here of mine are the stuffed potato skins, found on the menu as the Black Pearl under starters. Everything else about the business looks the same as before. We ordered a vegetarian pizza for delivery and got the wrong one at first, which was frustrating after waiting a while and being hungry. When I called, there was some confusion, and I did have to push a bit to have the correct pizza delivered that night. But they really made it right. The person who brought the replacement was very apologetic, and the pizza was excellent--fresh and delicious. The next morning, they even refunded the entire order and followed up with an apology, which I didn't expect. Mistakes happen. What matters is that they stood behind their service. I know they got new owners within the last couple years and I've given them a few chances but I don't think we'll be getting food from here anymore. The owners and staff are really really nice. That's something I do really appreciate but my problem is that every time we get pizza here now, there are bubbles in EVERY slice. And the ranch cups. They charge for them now which is fine, but they barely put any ranch in. We spent $70+ for two pizzas and the crust is almost inedible. We called as soon as we seen the crust and they did not make it right. They offered a small discount for our next order but I wanted a refund. They did not provide what we ordered so I'll never go back. Came in a Thursday night to celebrate my son's birthday. We haven't been here in about 4 years. There were quite a few people dining. It was cold outside but nice and warm inside where they had a fire going. We were greeted and had our order taken right away. The TVs were on and the 49ers game was on which made my son and husband happy. We got a Caesar salad, garlic twists, lemon pepper wings and the anchors away pizza (the XL is huge). This establishment reminds me of a "Round Table" type of restaurant however, in my humble opinion, I enjoyed Pizza Pirate's pizzas far more. Their creations were solid, well crafted, cheesy creations filled with flavors. Their entire ambiance, for myself, reminded me of a pirate tavern. If you're lucky, their pirates will even talk to you from their ship anchored upon the wall. Who does not like and enjoy a pirates themed restaurant? I look forward to returning to their eatery for their food most definitely peeked my interests. The food was exactly what you'd expect from a pizza place. The atmosphere definitely had a pirate theme. Nothing fancy, so don't try to expect a gourmet meal but you definitely will fill up on the pizza and salads should you choose a lighter fare. You arrive to find pirate decor, plenty of indoor seating and a play area in the back. You order at the counter and you just find yourself a table. I have been coming to pizza pirate since 2016 and it has been a family staple- for movie nights in and birthday parties for our kids... it's been a few months since we've had pizza pirate but we made a phone order for pick up tonight. We waited the 30-40 mins before arriving only to find out the order was never placed... I placed the order while on speaker phone so my husband also heard the whole order placed. Got a Medium walk the plank and the white sauce was pooled in the middle of the pizza. We just thought that Ok it was a little runny this time but after we ate it I was up half the night. I think it was on the bad side. Should of known white sauce was probably thin because it went bad. Every time we go they are either good or not so good it is like they can't be good all the time. most the times our pizza the toppings are either half missing or lopsided. Had a pizza delivery last night - delivery was very fast & the young man that did it was kind & courteous. The pizza, however, was a tad dry. Mind you we did ask for light sauce which we have done before. Have been going to this establishment since 1978 when my parents built their home here in Benicia. Called just to tell them we believe there was no sauce on the pizza as it was very dry, not ask for a refund nor another pizza - the kid that answered got his manager, Jeff. Now HE was a piece of work to say the least. Said he KNOWS there was sauce because he made the pizza himself, then went onto to say "we will make you a replacement pizza, refund you then BLOCK your account" then he proceeded to say "then don't ask for light sauce" and HANG UP the phone. The employee that took the order was Edward V. - who was very nice. This place will go down hill very fast with "managers" like this kid - Jeff. Sadly NEVER going back there again - the new owners should be ashamed to have employees like Jeff. And I didn't taste any pesto sauce. Not much cheese at all. Lots of topping though. It was a bit cold though so it had hardened up.
