Calamari Steak, linguine, white wine clam sauce.
    John R.

This is our favorite Italian place in the area. Last 2 times I've asked Chef to go off menu. I've gotten Calamari steak on linguine but with the wine sauce they use for White Clams. So good. Food is always excellent. Love the dipping gravy for the bread. The house salad dressing is delicious. Tonight we had a fantastic server, Chris. He was very attentive, pleasant and efficient. Both my wife and I enjoyed his service and personality. Good job Chris!

A hole in the wall, a gem. Been coming here for 10+ years. Fave Italian spot, Food is fresh & made right there. The food definitely speak for itself, hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. So good!

Clean menus that you can touch !

Our new neighborhood favorite! This place is just a stones throw from our house! don't know why we forgot about it but we found ourselves here for dinner on a Sunday evening. Everything was delicious, Service was awesome and the prices are not bad! Dinner for 3 one glass of wine, one dessert all for about $100 Tuesday night there is no corkage fee! I'll have to remember that! That is a plus

This is strictly take out. Ordered a $27 seafood pasta dish. It was not only small but the Alfredo was a watered down cream sauce. The 2 scallops were probably the best part of the dish. Because of the bland cream sauce the bell peppers took over the whole dish. So disappointed. I get more seafood from PHO and cheaper. Come on guys. You used to be good. The service from the girl at the front was nice. But I requested butter would she humbly obliged and then totally forgot. I knew I should have checked the order but the bag was tied and a tight knot and didn't have time to work on it since it was so hot outside. I'm sorry guys but Zio Freados and Bambinos got you beat.

Lovely partner of mine and a great bottle of Italian Tiziano Chianti!

Love this local gem! Service and food are great with some wine selections that are not available in local stores! I am a lover of eggplant parmigiana and they make me very happy! But to top that off, they have jambalaya and because I would never have expected that, I had to order it! That is the dish that made me come back over and over!

** LATE REVIEW ** Hubby and I had a gift card and came here for dinner back in January 2022. We had not been here in ages so it's nice to see that they are still thriving. Our server was nice and always checked on us throughout our meal. Hubby ordered the Carbonara with Caesar salad and I got the Pasta Alaina with house salad w/ Italian vinaigrette dressing. Our server brought us bread service and always ensured our drinks were topped off. Our salad were brought out pretty quickly and we both enjoyed them. Our main entrees were generous portions and it was ok. We ended up being most of our food home because we filled up on the bread and salad.

Salad Special: mixed greens, blue cheese, tomato vinaigrette topped with grilled shrimp. Perfection!!

Wow!!! What a hidden gem!! Strip mall surprise! Our friends took us to their new favorite local Italian place and we were impressed! Homemade minestrone soup was perfection! The Salad Special was mixed greens with blue cheese, apple and pear slices, candied walnuts ... it was so good I didn't need the dressing which I think was a tomato vinaigrette. The grilled shrimp was perfect! So good! Chicken cacciatore, risotto with shrimp and the ravioli filled with ricotta.... we also ordered a house salad and a Caesar salad...our party of four were 100% satisfied with the meal! We look forward to returning again and trying the pizzas!

I ordered the sea bass, my husband had the salmon, my sister had a salad, and her husband enjoyed the filet mignon. Every dish was delicious, but the sea bass deserves special recognition. As someone who orders sea bass whenever I can, I've had it in Pismo Beach, Monterey, and San Francisco, and Baxter's has set a new standard. It was incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a perfectly crisp sear that locked in all of its delicate flavor. Every bite was moist, flaky, and cooked to perfection. It was honestly the best sea bass I've ever had. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Combined with the elegant atmosphere and classic white tablecloths, Baxter's was the perfect place to celebrate. We'll definitely be back!

If you're looking for the kind of dinner that makes you want to cancel your other weekend plans…read morejust so you can go back, Baxters is it. Tucked right on First Street across from the bay in downtown Benicia, this place has completely earned its reputation as the town's culinary crown jewel. From the moment you walk in, the warmth is unmistakable -- and it's not an accident. Owners Kenneth Coker and Kevin Shaw built this restaurant to feel like their own living room, and it shows in every detail, right down to the name (a sweet nod to their beloved Fox Terrier). That personal touch translates into genuinely attentive service that never feels stiff or rehearsed. Now, the food. The Beef Wellington is the stuff of legend -- perfectly rendered pastry, a filling that melts before you even chew, and clearly a labor of love from the kitchen. The scallops are seared to that impossible perfection where the outside caramelizes but the inside stays buttery-soft. And if salmon gnocchi in vodka sauce is on the menu when you go, order it without hesitation -- it's rich, comforting, and impossible to stop eating. Even the truffle burger, which almost feels like an afterthought on a menu this elevated, has become a neighborhood obsession for good reason. Cocktails are crafted with the same care as the food -- inventive, well-balanced, and clearly the product of a team that takes its bar program seriously. And if you can snag a reservation in The Speakeasy, the intimate back room, do it. It's easily one of the most romantic, memorable settings for a special occasion in the entire Bay Area. Baxters isn't just a great restaurant -- it's a genuine gathering place, the kind of spot a whole town falls in love with. Whether it's date night, a family celebration, or just a nightcap at the bar, Baxters delivers an experience that's warm, delicious, and utterly memorable every single time. Highly, highly recommended.

I couldn't skip checking out Sailor Jack's, which used to be the Nantucket Fish Company, when I worked there in the mid 80's. The lunch menu offers some very different items than were offered four decades ago, but some items from those days are still featured today. (Items like clam chowder and fried prawns, for example.) Our server, Elizabeth, was great. She answered our questions and ensured we were happy with our food, at least as far as she could ensure... the food, however, was rather mediocre. We ordered a variety of food ranging from crab artichoke dip, to a chicken club, to fish and chips, to clam chowder, to a burger, and finally crab cakes. The starter, sandwich, fish and chips, and burger were all okay. The crab cakes however were not liked by those in our group that tasted them. (A lot of filler and not much crab from what one of our party members said). In any case, I mentioned this and the crab cakes, that went mostly uneaten, were removed from our bill. Bravo for good customer service! My understanding is that the outdoor dining that we very much enjoyed, was added during Covid. Back in the 80's the outdoor eating area was all parking lot. I took a look inside to see what else has changed. The main interior dining room looks almost identical to what it looked like 40+ years ago. The previous secondary indoor dining area has now been converted to a food preparation and employee only area. The bar itself looks the same as it did in 1984, but the area around the bar looks much more like dining space than it used to. This may be a good thing as attitudes on indulgences have certainly changed over the decades. I suspect at some point I'll return, hopefully it won't be decades...
