We reserved a table a few weeks in advance for a large party to celebrate a graduation. We were seated at a window with an amazing view. Our server was amazing. Attentive, friendly, helpful, and constantly bringing food and checking on us! Our group enjoyed the calamari, crab cakes and carpaccio as appetizers. Everyone ranted and raved about all of those, but WOW those crab cakes were absolutely DIVINE! Even those in our party who normally don't enjoy crab cakes had to partake because the rest of us were so enthralled. We had to order three orders of crab cakes - they were THAT GOOD! Definitely the best I have EVER had and I always order crab cakes when we go out to eat and they are on the menu. For dinner we all had a huge assortment of items. All delicious! Chicken parmigiana, cozze & vongole, mushroom ravioli, salmon, two of us enjoyed filet entrees. We were all very delighted with everything that we ordered! A little disappointed with my visit. I was expecting fine dining but they missed on all the details. We sat outside, view was beautiful and they had umbrellas for shade. The plates set out I noticed had stains of old dried food on it. The water that I was served also had dried food on the rim and debris floating inside the cup. Did not drink from it at all. I ordered the pappardelle which came out beautifully. Sauce was hearty and simple but my meal kept getting interrupted by loose shrimp shells and tough artichoke leaves. I had high expectations and I expected a more from Bella Siena. On the other hand, the house bread with the onion and olive oil dip was delicious! Couldn't stop myself from getting more. read more

I really wanted to like this place more! I came here on a Saturday night with a reservation at 7:30. The place was packed so there was still a bit of a wait. Staff wise everything was on point except for the guy who didn't come back with my Parmesan cheese. Food wise the calamari, arugula salad and crème brûlée was on point. But I got the lobster ravioli with shrimp and it was super dry and salty. As a dish that was advertised as being what this place was known for I was very disappointed. However since this was a first date I didn't want to seem high maintenance so I did not tell any of the staff my opinion of the food. My date did ask me at the end I was honest. Would I be back? Yes, but won't be getting the raviolis again, what a let down! read more

This place is tucked away in Benicia at the end of the street. Parking can be a challenge for sure. I will say this though, the service is wonderful. Everyone has a good attitude and is very helpful. The views from the restaurant are really nice. The interior is not too noisy, but it can be at times. The food isn't bad. What a perfect date night restaurant!! Had reservations and came in and were seated near the large windows by the water. It was perfect. The host and server were both great. We wanted some help with choosing wine but our server wasn't too familiar with pairing but he was honest with that. We went to Google and ended up with a perfect white. I had the salmon and he had the gnocchi with chicken. I had a gluten allergy but did feel safe eating my meal. I didn't have a reaction, so with that I believe there were safe handlings. This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Almost like being in Italy, almost ... I've been here countless times but decided to write a review about the last two times I came. One of the times I brought my niece who is an Italian food lover as well. Crab cakes, carpaccio, superb! Main dishes: rigatoni allá salsiccia, lobster ravioli added shrimp - divine! We've been to Bella Siena a few times in Benicia on 1st Street, but most recently we were celebrating a family birthday and traveled to this charming town for a special meal on the water. The restaurant has grown ~ there's an outside space, large interior space, and they just added an additional room on the side of the building that is dedicated to large groups/parties. We called and made reservations ahead, and were seated in their new and spacious room along with other special birthday occasions. The service in this room was excellent, and we had such a nice evening. The sun was setting on arrival, so we shared some nice photos and a round of drinks before ordering apps/dinner. Their cocktail menu is really nice and seasonal drinks too. Special shoutout to their Pineapple Martini and fresh puréed seasonal fruit margaritas. We started with the sautéed prawns, Caesar salad, and calamari fritti. For kiddos they do have high chairs, a special menu, crayons, and sippy cup. For mains our party ordered the chicken parmigiana, marinated grilled teriyaki skirt steak, the pecan crusted pork chop, and a few other choices including the grilled lamb tenderloin too. The pork chop was my favorite ~ juicy, clean meat in a nice port wine reduction. The surprise birthday blackberry sorbet was such a fun hit for post meal also. To note in addition, Bella Siena has a lunch menu featuring paninis like a grilled Kobe beef burger and grilled free range chicken breast. What's the difference between their filet mignon and the lamb tenderloin? $14. Same identical plates, but different proteins. The filet mignon was one of the specials-of the day (no price noted, but the bill said $62.50), while the lamb was a menu regular for $48.50. We ordered one of each, and they both tasted fine. But the plates looked identical with the sides prepped exactly alike down to the same sauce. That's what's most bothering. To have a $14 price difference, I would expect a little more foo-foo with a different presentation style to justify it. But when you look at the dishes side by side, the only difference was the flavor between beef and lamb. Other than that, staff was very cordial, and the drinks were good. read more

The appetizers stole the spotlight especially the portobello mushrooms, layered with tangy blue cheese and a rich balsamic reduction, all resting on a bed of warm, velvety polenta. Pleasant, but easily overshadowed by everything else. The entrées carried the momentum beautifully. The lobster ravioli was decadent and satisfying, while the 16 oz ribeye arrived flawlessly cooked, tender and full of flavor. The lamb loin was equally impressive, served over creamy mashed potatoes with perfectly grilled vegetables that tied it all together. Cocktails were just as memorable the lavender and blood orange martinis were vibrant, refreshing, and elegantly garnished with edible flowers, adding a delicate, fragrant touch. The restaurant buzzed with energy it was one of those warm, golden evenings where everyone seemed to be out enjoying life by the water. And then there was Jordan, our server, who truly elevated the experience. Attentive, witty, and effortlessly charming, he made us feel completely taken care of from start to finish. This is definitely one of my favorite spots. I love visiting at least once a month. I'll admit I tend to stick to the same menu items, but it's only because they're so good. My partner usually orders the teriyaki skirt steak, which is a very well-portioned, beautifully presented, tender, and delicious. I typically go for the carpaccio, which is always a treat. The staff is absolutely fantastic. Jordy has become one of our regular bartenders. I don't even need to place my order; she already knows what I want. The ambiance is very elegant and beautiful. The DUNGENESS CRAB CAKES served on top of a light refreshing cucumber, tomato, and red onion relish with a side of sesame soy aioli. Mmmmm! 4. One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Definitely would come back for the lobster ravioli. The dipping olive oil that comes with the bread is so good. It have red onion or shallots in it and I could sit there and eat that all day. Coffee was great. Drinks were great. Tiramisu was just okay. I'd pass on it in the future. But didn't matter. We were seated very quickly on a Sunday for late lunch and got seated by a window with a beautiful view of the bay! The staff were very attentive and professional throughout the entire meal. Appetizers: The skirt steak satay was so juicy and tender, a wonderful contrast to the crispy onion rings below. The beef carpaccio was flavorful and refreshing with the greens on top. The crab cakes were also very crispy with a good amount of crab inside - just what we were hoping for. Mains: They sprinkled fresh parmasan on all our pasta dishes! Spaghetti was actually very meaty in the sauce, which is exactly how my meat-loving dad likes it. The pappardelle was my favorite by far. The seafood was cooked to perfection - not too tough or chewy. The sauce was a shrimp bisque that really made the dish unique, but still had the fresh tomato element that I love in a pasta dish. The pasta itself was fantastic in texture, had a good bite to it and picked up the sauce really well. The mushroom risotto was creamy and yummy! I personally didn't have much of it. He has a really professional and personal way about him. The indoor seating is cozy while the courtyard patio seating is open to the beautiful views of the Carquinez Strait. We've been coming here for many years. The service and food have had its ups-and-downs. This evening, we dined with family members who ordered different dishes. The Food: Calamari Fritti (calamari, roasted bell pepper, chipotle aioli): The calamari was a tad limp which makes them extra chewy. (3 of 5) Dungeness Crab Cakes (dungeness crab, cucumber, tomato, red onion relish, sesame soy aioli): A little under-seasoned but otherwise a good buttery, delicate, flaky, and tender texture. The golden and crispy exterior makes a contrast to the soft interior giving it a nice crunch. (4 of 5) Short Ribs: The first thing we noticed was the rosemary stuck in the middle of the meat. I didn't mind but the other diners thought it intruded in the overall taste of their food. The short ribs were savoury, rich, and tender, and had a robust beefy flavour from the choice of meat and the slow cooking. The drawback were the vegetables. The carrots tasted like they were pulled from the garden and dropped on the plate. The raw carrots lowered the score from 4 to 3. (3 of 5) Lobster Ravioli (homemade lobster ravioli, prawns, sundried tomatoes, capers, lemon cream sauce): This is a nice dish but didn't have the rich, sweet, taste. The delicate lobster flavor was lost in the filling and other ingredients. Unfortunately, the star of this dish did not shine. (3.5 of 5) Lamb Tenderloin (grilled lamb, garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus): Two diners ordered this dish. While I thoroughly enjoyed mine, my dining companion wasn't too happy with their order. My meat had a rich, savoury, slightly sweet flavor. It was tender and had a succulent texture. It wasn't "gamey" but a little earthy. Though someone was a little heavy-handed with the pepper, I still enjoyed my dish. Overall, and because of what my companion experienced, we couldn't give this a 5. (4.5 of 5) Chicken Parmigiana (lightly breaded chicken breast, Monterey Jack cheese, basil, linguini pasta marinara): The chicken was juicy, with a tangy flavour. It's a comforting dish. The only drawback was the pasta. It lacked seasoning and the pasta was undercooked. (4 of 5) Bread Pudding (maple brandy sauce, crème anglaise): While we enjoyed the warmth and comfort of the sauce, we found the bread pudding spongier than we'd like. Good bread pudding usually tastes creamy and custardy, with a soft, spongy texture. This bread pudding is more cake-like. Overall, this dish lost points on the texture. (3.25 of 5) Siena Sundae (vanilla gelato, hot fudge, warm caramel drizzle, pecans): This dessert also went around the table, with each of us commenting differently about its presentation and taste. Yusof was in his element, charming us with his friendliness and knowledge of the cuisine. We just felt that he was hovering around too much and that made us feel uncomfortable. Parking: There's plenty of parking but it's a good idea to carpool if possible. Because we were meeting there from different directions, the 6 of us drove there in 3 cars, so finding parking spots was a challenge. Atmosphere: The interior is clean and welcoming. The downtown Benicia boardwalk is definitely happening as the backroom was full of gatherings and our family decided to have a small birthday gathering on a table in front. It was between Bella and the place next door. There was some confusion with reservations, so I would recommend getting there and checking in early. The perfect trip to Italy / Siena includes pasta and Bella Siena is no different. I ordered the chicken parmigiana with extra cheese. The linguini and marinara provided a nice salutation away from the extra big piece of chicken. Calamari is the go-to appetizer for a reason. Cozze & Vongole is a great choice as well mostly if you have the big bread basket to soak up the sauce with the shellshockingly juicy shellfish. We ordered the arugula salad, but it never arrived with the appetizers gone and they dropped the mains. Most of the desserts had dairy, so I stuck with the blackberry sorbet option. read more

They are located right by the water with beautiful views and exceptional food. We got a window seat inside with a view of the water. They still serve complimentary bread, and it came with a slightly sweet onion oil, which was addicting. The service was excellent and every dish we tried was better than the next. What we ordered: + Arugula salad - even though we ordered one salad, they split this for us in separate plates. This had pears, bleu cheese, and candied pecans. It was the perfect starter. + Pappardelle Allo Zafferano - wide homemade saffron pasta with prawns, mushrooms, and artichoke hearts in a shrimp bisque sauce. This was rich and delicious. + Salmone Alla Griglia - perfectly cooked salmon sits on a bed of yukon potato hash and spinach. Excellent. + Fruit crisp and ice cream and caramel - perfect. This is my go-to Italian dinner spot during the Benicia Thursday Farmers Market. Shoutout to our fave server "auntie" Dory for being sweet and accommodating to my toddler who is a whirlwind. We tried most of the menu and can't go wrong with any of it- some faves are the calamari, shrimp pappardelle and the risotto- so flavorful and fresh with ample portions. I've heard good things about the osso bucco so gotta add it to the list! The ambiance is beautiful especially if you sit near the back with the windows during sunset.
