My husband found this place while we were on our anniversary getaway. After dinner, we wanted to stop by a bar and we love speakeasy bars! It was so funny because we saw The Office storefront and thought it was a different place, so we went through the hallway from the back where the "secret" entrance was. You can choose to sit at the speakeasy-designed area where there are no windows, or there is another area where you can people-watch. It was surprisingly not as busy, but also it was only 8PM. Our bartender was so friendly and told us we should try the food, but we were too stuffed from our dinner. We decided just to have a quick drink and head out. I ordered a Strawberry Smash and the hubby got a Tropical Sunset. My drink was really delicious and huge. We only stayed for a drink because we were tired, but I would love to return when I'm back in the area. read more

This speakeasy has some low key spooky vibes, including a piano upstairs being played by "ghosts." Located inside Baxter's, The Office has excellent drinks. My French 75 was delicious. Very small and intimate with only a few tables. I loved it! This place is under new management in the last month - sounds like they have lots of fun plans for both The Office and Baxter's. The new owner is working the floor but also took time to sit down and tell us his story. He's amazing - super friendly and the type of local owner you'd want to support. The best ever! I I absolutely adore this place, the dishwasher guy & "manager owner" was the best Jason was his name! The greatest! All I can say is YES, YES, YES!!!! From the beginning I was a lil iffy because there was a huge private party but I stuck it out and soooooi grateful I did! Tinka the waitress (hope I spelled it right) was super sweet, knowledgeable, kind and took the time to personally get to know me as I went solo...Great company with the locals..AND how rare is it to be greeted and checked on throughout my night from both of the owners separately...the care are love was genuine and organically apparent. Who doesn't love a speakeasy? I didn't realize there was one in Benicia until I spent the day there with a friend and stumbled upon it. The bar/restaurant area outside of the speakeasy is cute too - the service was incredible and they had a lot of wine options. When we went back to the speakeasy area, we were the only ones there, which was nice. It's a cozy, intimate area with piano music filling the room. I just went here last night with a group of 5 for my birthday and I would like to go on record here to say I wish I could put 10 stars. Earlier on in the week I made a reservation which kicked me over to The Loft, of which the The Office is it's own intimate space inside of. The morning of the reservation I decided to call to confirm that it was The Office I made a reservation for, not The Loft. Jason was so accommodating and so nice that he assured that he would be able to fix the hiccup once we were there for our 8pm reservations, as I said it is a small room and also had another large party. He assured he would try to make it work. We checked in and waited for a bit and looked over the menu in The Loft part of the restaurant. He constantly made sure we were taken care of and kept us abreast of our table in The Office. Once we got there, the service was still amazing and the food was well prepared and excellent. The drinks were great. As my birthday desserts came out, the player piano played happy birthday to me. It was quite special and I was so happy I spent my birthday at this local gem. This past weekend I had friends in town and wanted to show them this place. But I was told that they were having a special prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day weekend and they couldn't accommodate us. We decided to sit in the Loft Wine Bar area instead. But when we arrived, they were kind enough to squeeze us into the Speakeasy for regular drink service after a table opened up. And we weren't even properly dressed for the occasion! The drinks are not only amazing but so is the customer service! We'd be here every week if we lived in this state. The player piano is reminiscent of the Magic Castle in LA. It must have a name and we will find that out later night. Went with a group of gals to celebrate a birthday and we had a great night. The drinks were amazing, the food was good. Because of a gluten allergy, I couldn't order one of the many pasta dishes. My friends were also wonder why the entrees were all pasta and then $60 beef Wellington. Talked to the owner and he explained that is their "first week menu" as they learn what is wanted. I did order another dish that was gluten free, the nachos, which I requested from The Loft next door. We all said said we would go back! And want to have an event here. I was really hoping to like this place as the idea of a speakeasy close to home sounded great! The interior is very nicely decorated and the feel is nice. The cocktails were very nice as well though overpriced. My reason for the two stars is the horrible service. The young lady who sat us basically ignored us the whole time we were there, but was very attentive to other customers who seemed more "important". We had to ask for the cocktail menu because she just gave us the menu for the wine bar but we came for the speakeasy cocktails. When we asked she seemed confused that we wanted the other menu. Went here for our friends birthday dinner. The attraction was the speak easy hidden bar. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and introduced to the staff by name. Jake, John and Vanessa made such a positive first impression. John, the chef came out of the kitchen and ensured us everything on the menu was good, and it absolutely was. We sat in the speak easy and received amazing service. Jake made wonderful drinks, Vanessa was an attentive, friendly, server and John showed out in the kitchen!!! The food was so unexpected. If you're looking for something different in Benicia, or in the entire Bay Area for that matter, check out this place. It's a small room seating perhaps a dozen people, behind a curtain that separates it from the main, Loft restaurant. A cozy vibe with a bar featuring well over a hundred cocktails and the same kitchen as the Loft, so the food is wonderful. As are the cocktails! The Loft has created a kind of Prohibition Era ambiance in its Speakeasy room, with an automatic piano (if that's the term) playing songs from that time. What's more, a comfortable, intimate setting that roughly duplicates what the original, secret bar from that time might have been like, all the way to a fake second floor's doors that suggest the bordello that the bar housed. It's usually only open on Fridays and Saturdays, though my wife and I went there tonight (a Thursday). In chatting with Jason, the convivial owner of the Loft/Speakeasy, it sounds like he may keep the Speakeasy open on Thursdays through the winter. I believe that reservations for the Speakeasy are required. It would be a great place for a private party as well. Highly recommended! read more

Let me start by saying that the food was amazing! Not much to say after that. I went with a group and we felt more like an inconvenience to the serving staff and bartender that ignored us. Stuffed in the corner of the bar area (where bartenders had to ask us to get up so they could grab liquor for other customers that were obviously more important than we were) like we were being punished for something. Took over 20 minutes to get the drinks that were ordered, some of our dinner order was forgotten, had to ask more than twice for a glass of water, again, felt like we were bothering/irritating the servers for help. read more

I give this 3 stars because the wine was good but the appetizers were disappointing. The speakeasy atmosphere was good but the service was not very welcoming. I think they have a great idea going on but you can't charge that much for stale crackers and mediocre salami. The waiter didn't seem to know much about the wine saying it was from "outside of Napa" and the pours were very weak. I like this place but would only go back again if they increased the "worth it" factor for the price. It was $60 for less than one glass of wine each and 6 crackers with salami and olives. Restaurants like this with a good vision should minimize their menu and perfect it instead of trying to cater to everyone. read more

The evening we booked for going to this establishment was supposed to be fun and full of energy night. Instead it was awful. We had a party of 8 and we were all dressed up for the occasion. We had our password and brought a box of candy (as suggested). When we were called no one asked for our password. The girl said she forgot and just escorted us to our table taking our box of candy and promptly told us that we had two hours and would need to be done by 7 p.m. At this point we had not even ordered drinks or a dinner. The bartender was new and overwhelmed with no one helping him. We ordered our drinks and it took over 45 minutes to get them to us. Our meals (except for one) came 20 minutes before we were to leave. The "except one" never came and my chicken dinner was undercooked. Our second round of drinks never did come. The other two tables in the restaurant had the same problem. When we left at 7 p.m. they still did not have their meals. What was suppose to be a fun evening was a disaster!! read more
