speakeasy vibes. old fashioned drink & lemon martini

lovely vibe here. my bestfriend & i had a good time here. the speakeasy vibe was cool, i was so disappointed that the piano was for show, unfortunately. although there is a sister company bar that's in vacaville called "dueling pianos at makes restaurant" and they actually have the life shows of dueling pianos! p.s. speakeasy is inside the Loft.

The best ever! I I absolutely adore this place, the dishwasher guy & "manager owner" was the best Jason was his name! The greatest! The time from the front door till the end of the walk out phenomenal. Our bartender was the best in a long time! He went over and beyond! Dereck we loved him...he was so accommodating, he made sure we were comfortable. The piano above us was playing this is a speakeasy Prohibition bar. Definitely we will be coming back here. I would totally recommend this restaurant. Everybody is sweet and friendly, and the customer service blows you out of the water. Literally a happy day to a ending of a night out with the girls. This place is good for a romantic date, a girls night out or if you just want to enjoy the atmosphere. Do not miss this place! You will fall in love. There's so many drinks and wine to choose from. Oh and the food, came out hot and fresh burst of flavors in the mouth. Please check out Jason and Dereck! Also the waitress I don't remember her name but she was very kind and attentive. Remember while in Benicia or looking for amazing foodie restaurants this place will not let you down..... Thanks Jason, you've done and epic job of bringing a natural feel good vibe of a restaurant.... Juliana

Who doesn't love a speakeasy? I didn't realize there was one in Benicia until I spent the day there with a friend and stumbled upon it. The bar/restaurant area outside of the speakeasy is cute too - the service was incredible and they had a lot of wine options. When we went back to the speakeasy area, we were the only ones there, which was nice. It's a cozy, intimate area with piano music filling the room. Because there are no windows, the wine and good conversation will have you lose track of time.

I just went here last night with a group of 5 for my birthday and I would like to go on record here to say I wish I could put 10 stars. Earlier on in the week I made a reservation which kicked me over to The Loft, of which the The Office is it's own intimate space inside of. The morning of the reservation I decided to call to confirm that it was The Office I made a reservation for, not The Loft. Jason was so accommodating and so nice that he assured that he would be able to fix the hiccup once we were there for our 8pm reservations, as I said it is a small room and also had another large party. He assured he would try to make it work. We checked in and waited for a bit and looked over the menu in The Loft part of the restaurant. He constantly made sure we were taken care of and kept us abreast of our table in The Office. Once we got there, the service was still amazing and the food was well prepared and excellent. The drinks were great. As my birthday desserts came out, the player piano played happy birthday to me. It was quite special and I was so happy I spent my birthday at this local gem. Jason and his crew were fantastic! Will surely be back! One thing I would like to add is when making reservations online, note that it is for The Office as you will be in The Loft's reservation system.

This past weekend I had friends in town and wanted to show them this place. But I was told that they were having a special prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day weekend and they couldn't accommodate us. We decided to sit in the Loft Wine Bar area instead. But when we arrived, they were kind enough to squeeze us into the Speakeasy for regular drink service after a table opened up. And we weren't even properly dressed for the occasion! The drinks are not only amazing but so is the customer service! I wouldn't test their dress code again, but in a pinch they are really willing to work with you in order to make sure you leave satisfied and wishing to return again! And I DEFINITELY will be returning again!

    Best Old Fashion Drink Ever!

I love the intimate at the Office Soeakeasy atmosphere and especially the Old Fashion drink! My husband enjoyed the Complexity wine from Amizetta Winery. We'd be here every week if we lived in this state. The player piano is reminiscent of the Magic Castle in LA. It must have a name and we will find that out later night. The old brothel doors on either side of the piano on the loft are numbered 1 & 2. It makes you want to peak inside.

Went with a group of gals to celebrate a birthday and we had a great night. The drinks were amazing, the food was good. Because of a gluten allergy, I couldn't order one of the many pasta dishes. My friends were also wonder why the entrees were all pasta and then $60 beef Wellington. Talked to the owner and he explained that is their "first week menu" as they learn what is wanted. I did order another dish that was gluten free, the nachos, which I requested from The Loft next door. We all said said we would go back! And want to have an event here. We all dressed up and other customers were dressed up too! It was a nice small atmosphere for the Friday night. I did get a bit warm, so dress lightly. You should book reservations as it is a smaller space. (We loved the small closed off space as it didn't feel like we were in Benicia) We will go back- and am actually interested in booking the room for gals nights! Go- enjoy and have fun!

New Gem in Benicia ...right out of the pages of a History Book. So awesome. Small quaint fun. I felt taken back to a bygone era. Just like I Imagined a speakeasy should ben. Mixologist Ezra was fabulous. Very fun to watch. Over 30 cocktails, great spirits list. The food good. Fun little tuck-away for a fun evening..

What a truly unique experience! Between the atmosphere, ambience, wonderful bartenders and top notch food, you HAVE to come here. This place is a pretty cool gem! We suggest dressing the part, it makes the experience much more enjoyable. We always love seeing the owner, he greets you with a smile and appreciates all his customers. We will come back time after time.

My farewell to Roaring 20s 30th birthday bash all dressed up for a roaring good time!

I ordered the sea bass, my husband had the salmon, my sister had a salad, and her husband enjoyed the filet mignon. Every dish was delicious, but the sea bass deserves special recognition. As someone who orders sea bass whenever I can, I've had it in Pismo Beach, Monterey, and San Francisco, and Baxter's has set a new standard. It was incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a perfectly crisp sear that locked in all of its delicate flavor. Every bite was moist, flaky, and cooked to perfection. It was honestly the best sea bass I've ever had. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Combined with the elegant atmosphere and classic white tablecloths, Baxter's was the perfect place to celebrate. We'll definitely be back!

If you're looking for the kind of dinner that makes you want to cancel your other weekend plans…read morejust so you can go back, Baxters is it. Tucked right on First Street across from the bay in downtown Benicia, this place has completely earned its reputation as the town's culinary crown jewel. From the moment you walk in, the warmth is unmistakable -- and it's not an accident. Owners Kenneth Coker and Kevin Shaw built this restaurant to feel like their own living room, and it shows in every detail, right down to the name (a sweet nod to their beloved Fox Terrier). That personal touch translates into genuinely attentive service that never feels stiff or rehearsed. Now, the food. The Beef Wellington is the stuff of legend -- perfectly rendered pastry, a filling that melts before you even chew, and clearly a labor of love from the kitchen. The scallops are seared to that impossible perfection where the outside caramelizes but the inside stays buttery-soft. And if salmon gnocchi in vodka sauce is on the menu when you go, order it without hesitation -- it's rich, comforting, and impossible to stop eating. Even the truffle burger, which almost feels like an afterthought on a menu this elevated, has become a neighborhood obsession for good reason. Cocktails are crafted with the same care as the food -- inventive, well-balanced, and clearly the product of a team that takes its bar program seriously. And if you can snag a reservation in The Speakeasy, the intimate back room, do it. It's easily one of the most romantic, memorable settings for a special occasion in the entire Bay Area. Baxters isn't just a great restaurant -- it's a genuine gathering place, the kind of spot a whole town falls in love with. Whether it's date night, a family celebration, or just a nightcap at the bar, Baxters delivers an experience that's warm, delicious, and utterly memorable every single time. Highly, highly recommended.

Unfortunately, the festival did not serve any liquor so we decided head down to the local bar before we enjoy the festival and all the food it had. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a super nice bartender who made some delicious drinks! Back in the day there used to be brunch and a bigger food menu but they have stopped that. The buffet I guess was a waste and a lot of food didn't get eaten. They used to have a make your own Bloody Mary bar, but didn't see that either. It takes awhile for the server to come assist you, especially ordering drinks. Half our table got drinks and finished before the other got to order. The drinks took awhile to come out and came at different times and were inconsistent with taste and garnish. They never collected any empty glasses when they came with new drinks. So our table was cluttered. This is not good when your table is already cramped. When we were ordering the food the server kept trying to pressure us to order more (either two of the same dish or more food). Unfortunately we listened and got two of the mussel with fries. The assembly of this dish was not great. They put a glob of mayo on top of the mussels...then fries under with a TON of not so great broth. The fries get sooooo soggy and dipping it becomes a nightmare when you start eating the mussels. The mussels also weren't that great. It wasn't necessarily fishy but almost tasted old or left out. I would not recommend this dish. The Brussels sprouts were horrendous and EXTREMELY salty. It was drenched in this buffalo tasting vinaigrette. The entire party hated this. As for the chicken, it was alright. The hot sauce wasn't great so I ate it alone. The biscuit was tough and hard to rip apart. It didn't have that flakey texture. The slaw was a miss from just looking at it. My favorite thing out of it all was the Mac and cheese. Not dry, had good amount of salt. Oh, and if you want to order the side of carrots, I'm not sure 2 slices is worth the amount they charge. The menu is also limited compared to what was offered before.

"Princess" Christina here to edit her review!…read more I wanted to edit my review to explain sort of what was originally posted trying to make it short. First before being seated we were approached by a female server who was angry we were seated at her table to enjoy waters before being taken downstairs to the show. She told us we're r not allowed to sit there even though the host placed us there. A whole thing... we moved for her. I was there for my birthday, husband Venmo 20$ to play two songs and do a shout out ( owner attacks me in my original review insinuating that I am an entitled princess demanding a happy bday song ( which I didn't request) and that we stormed out after an hour. We stayed till almost 10:30 show ends at 11. We asked for 2 songs that were fun classics everyone could sing along to since the playing of "wet a** P***y" wasn't exactly bumping in the club and just made the establishment even more grimy than it already was! We got outbid, not knowing exactly how dueling piano bars r ran. Now we do and we will never go back. We just wanted a shout out which coulda been said in 2 seconds... is that why you got a 1 star? No. The food was also extremely gross. Only dish with eating was the pasta. What salad comes with no lettuce lol? Weird whatever? I didn't order it. My original review complemented some of the songs and some other things but it was also pointing out the crappy parts like asking for more money mid song. I hate places that seem like they r begging for money. It's just not my vibe. And while this place is "ALWAYS sold out" how many are return customers!? And why are the restaurants reviews at 2 stars? Because it's a 1 star establishment. I have never had two reviews deleted before so yes... my bad... I take full accountability that I ASSUMED your establishment had anything to do with a removed review and it didn't. But i did not delete it myself. Jason m the pianist had asked at one point for me to remove it and I said I would not but I understand the concern. He then brought up health issues and played on my empathy and my love for God then came back and told me how I was rude and how Jesus was not always nice so he justified Jason and himself don't have to be nice to me. My review was unfortunately taken personally by these two men...when I did not say anything personal. The owner though... got personal with me over my expression of why this place was a 1 star ( for me ) and silently attacked my character. Thank the lord for my husband. M. C. Who came to bat like a pro for me. I didn't even ask him to, but he mentioned my military career and other services to this country that in otherworldly do not take the title of "princess". ESPECIALLY the paths I have gone down! I hope this and his review make you think twice about how you speak to people before getting upset over a 1 star review! It's the internet I wasn't being a bully I was explaining so other who read are aware of what they r stepping into. A 1 star bar and restaurant venue who ask for a lot of money don't treat their customers with much respect in person and over the internet... and don't reimburse people for items they don't receive or accidentally got charged for. It's not hard to DO the right thing. And "being a good person" doesn't mean I have to delete a review for your bar. I am a good person. I'd like to say proudly... a bit better of a person than you Jason. I wish you luck! My first review below: edited review above My review was deleted don't know why. Who whole establishment was a rip off. And having my review deleted makes this so much worse off and corrupt. Very interesting. I understand piano bars r based off tips... but this was gross and like begging for more money every song that played. My request was never played.. while I was there... and ( they reached out o tell me they eventually did) (By the way other ppl reviews they were reimbursed for not playing their song but mine wasn't) While some songs were fun... the music selection was truly trash... I won't go back and I'll never reccomend. No one at my table would ever go back. The food was horrid old dry and gross tasting also.

They really take pride in its history, and I love that they share these interesting tidbits with visitors. The "reservations only" rule here is kind of odd, especially cuz this place doesn't seem to really get packed, even on a Saturday night. But it worked out for us, cuz my large group was able to enjoy our time together without huge, crazy, crowds like you get in SF, Vegas, or even Texas dueling piano venues. And it was still lively enough around 10-11pm. They even provided fun props at the tables for guests (tambourines and fedoras!). You can order food and drinks down here from the restaurant menu, but of course, just like the restaurant, beware they may be out of items. I enjoyed some of the molten lava cake for dessert. They were out of vanilla ice cream, but a scoop of the strawberry flavor was more to my liking anyway. And of course, just like at the restaurant upstairs, I absolutely loved the drink offerings here... so many tasty concoctions, especially if you like fruity cocktails. We requested a bunch of songs throughout the night, and they played most of them. They were honest about what they didn't know or tried to learn it on the spot (says my musician bf), so I appreciate the effort. Be sure to tip for the awesome range of songs they play for the crowd (mainly rock, rnb, pop, and country). The two pianists (and one drummer) were fun and friendly, and did their best to keep the slowly shrinking crowd entertained. I've never seen a dueling piano bar empty before closing time, especially when closing time is early for a Saturday, but the entire place was deserted by 11:45pm... except my group, of course, which stayed for the last 15 minutes. Compared to other venues I've been to, it wasn't as lively a crowd here at Makse, yet it was kinda what I'd expect in Vacaville... or as my bf calls it, Vodkaville :D
