Really disappointed with my experience today. I'm a local in Benicia and have been here before, but this visit completely changed my perception. I was not allowed with my 5 month old baby to have a glass of wine in the patio. I was told there's a "no under 21" rule that apparently includes babies. That honestly didn't make sense to me. this is an infant, not even eating solid food yet. I've been to wineries in Napa with my baby and never had an issue, so this felt unwelcoming. This felt like a made up rule to protect non-mother customers, and Benicia is known for that. Horrible. What made it worse was how it was handled. The waitress(blonde, short hair mid-aged lady) came off rude and said, "no under 21, sorry--unless it's a dog haha," and then told me I could go to the taphouse on the corner. It felt dismissive and unprofessional. I even tried calling afterward to speak with a manager, but no one answered. Overall, it left a really bad impression, and I don't feel comfortable coming back after this. read more

Came here for a bingo Carquinez Quad Squad roller derby team FUNdraiser (check us out!), so didn't have any expectations or knowledge of the establishment. I was pleasantly surprised by a beautiful bar and ample outdoor seating. The wine and beer list is extensive and reasonably priced for a wine bar. The bingo was fun--even though I didn't win a prize! (It was a fundraiser, so everyone won that goodwill feeling!) Bring your next fundraising event here! The team does all the work for you! Only drawback is they only offer a charcuterie cup for snacks. It appears they don't have a kitchen. They do allow people to bring in their own food, and there is a little place next door that will deliver the food to you after you jog over to place your order. But if you only want a glass of wine (or a beer) and conversation with friends, come on by! (Leave the kids at home--this is a bar, people! ) read more

They are a no frill wine and beer place for the 21+ crowd. Very relaxing vibe for those that just want to have a good time. Stephanie and Lynne are great- very friendly and attentive. The people who were there that night seemed to be regulars and Lynne and Stephanie treated them like family. Because we have kids, we don't get to frequent this place but Stephanie and Lynne still extended their hospitality. I am very saddened about the chill Sunday. I went as a group for bingo. We noticed some older ladies so we gave up our chairs for them to sit. The entire place was filled. Lyn the manager must of had a bad day. She is not customer friendly. The bartenders were way better than her. anyways two of our group had to stand while two sat we had no choice. Lyn came up and points and says are you over 21 and everyone laughs at her and my sister in law fumbled for her ID and Lyn walks away rudely. We're two hours in bought at least a dozen glasses of beer and wine with the 4 of us. And now Lyn has an issue that we are in the walkway. A part of me felt because we were of minority and not white like everyone else Lyn sent her bartender to ask us to move. When a white couple needed an area they were escorted and assisted to find a space. Also a young ladies daughter who I overheard was 16 sat in front of me at the bar and Lyn or any of the bartenders did not even ask her for her age. But because my sister in law was black and that lady was white maybe that had the problem there. My last Sunday there. I will no longer support a racist establishment and a rude owner. read more

Anthony Davis is a Basketball Player not a winery dude... I definitely had a good buzz yesterday. When one of the bartenders here offered us our usual bottle of wine, I got excited. I think it's cool when a bartender knows your go to drinks. Always makes the experience more personal. It had been at least a couple months since we had last been there. All I remembered was that we liked "a Red Wine that starts with the same name as me." Now the Davis part, I have no idea how that came out. "We love this bottle of Anthony Davis." The bartender was like, "Umm..." Ugh...Perhaps I was drunk lol x_x. The point I'm trying to make is that I love this place. I always have a fun and "sometimes" memorable experience here which necessarily isn't a bad thing. The memorable part that is. Heh. The Chill has a pretty solid wine collection from a good mix of whites and reds, to a decent amount of dessert wines. Though they have mainly wines, they also serves a small amount of beer and cocktails too. I think what really makes the chill so cool is that they allow you to bring in food from anywhere. Being that yesterday was the Farmer's market, we brought in our Loaded Baked Potatoes and Lumpia. It went soooooo well with the Pinot Noir! It's just super convenient that it's right in front of the Farmers Market. Not only is the chill super chill about food, they are just super chill about life. I mean every single employee that I have interacted with over the 3.5 years of going here has always been super friendly and professional. I met someone for a casual networking appointment, and it was a great place to have a conversation. It was easy to find street parking (weekday). We sat outside at one of the big picnic tables, and both ordered a beer recommended by the server. It was convenient being able to order food from Aung Maylika across the street through her and it was delivered quickly and easily. However I do enjoy coming here for different reasons: -The bartenders are super sweet, lowkey and hospitable. No, seriously. They are the best. -Guests do enjoy the beer menu. -Great location. -Small but typically is not full/crowded. This is the fourth time I have visited The Chill. The atmosphere inside is very nice...The wine I've tried is good...not great... My bill for a glass of wine was $11.92 with taxes... I paid cash and was given $8.00 change...Where IS MY ADDITIONAL 08. CENTS? The correct change back is $8.08 That 8 cents is mine to decide how to spend.. It's NOT the 8 cents short changed , but the principle... My $2.00 tip for the glass of wine secretly turned into a $2.08 tip....no bueno.... The customer service of the woman who served me was minimal...I say "the woman" because I don't know her name. Many wine bars have staff who greet you and tell you their NAME. She does not know my name either... It was not busy and she was more interested in cleaning glasses and fussing around with bottles than checking in on how the customers were doing...I was practically the ONLY person seated inside the business at 7 pm at night... I have TRIED to like this business more than once by visiting again..the locale, atmosphere are great...but the service has been sub-par...if The Chill wishes to attract and maintain repeat local clients, it needs to train it's staff to be more customer service oriented...I can purchase a glass of wine ANYWHERE in Northern California...but what makes me REPEAT business ...has to do with the behavior of the staff in the wine bar toward me and other paying customers..I can say this with confidence because I have been in customer service/retail postions for most of my life. I KNOW what good customer service is...and proper RECOGNITION of the customer should look like... The Chill "looks good " on the surface, but the service disappoints...or is "ok"...Because of this, it is very hard to recommend or want to give repeat business... Rudest service ever encountered, along with over priced, mediocre wine. Restaurant decided to close early, but not without seating us for a glass. No sooner had they poured our (barely drinkable, overpriced) wine than a staff member fired up a loud hand vaccuum right next to us and proceeded to do a full clean of cabinets at deafening volume so as to make conversation impossible - it was so rude so as to be comical. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to end our night after dinner. I began searching and came across "The chill" we decided to head on in. The ambiance is really chill (no pun intended) lol the music was amazing 80's R&B, Jazz, and more. Basically all the good stuff. The host helped me pick an amazing wine! Her recommendation was great. She recommended A&D Pinot Noir and it was really good. I also tried the moscato and fell in love with it. It was sweet, yet refreshing and slightly bubbly. This is a great place to end a date night, or just come and relax after a long day at work. Amazing wines, great staff, and an amazing location. I love just how cozy it feels inside this place also. This nice little place is definitely chill. We had to pick up something in Benicia so we stopped for dinner and came here for a drink. It was just what we needed because the lighting, decor, and ambiance were all great. I had a glass of Malbec and bf had a Firestone on tap. Although towards the end a few people came in and it looked like they either work there or know the bartender because one of them went behind the bar. While some of the friendly faces have changed, the two constants, Lyn and Taryn have been serving up some great tasting and well-priced vinos forever. Lyn has built-up such a great standing in the community, and she brings a warm vibe to people of all walks of life; Taryn is equally as welcoming and charming, and has the uncanny ability to remember your name after meeting you once. No matter who you get on any given night, though, you will be treated with great service. The place itself gets more and more comfy as I stop in; it's like a wine bar set in someone's home narrow great room. There's always some cool 70's classic rock song playing in the background and the vintage register is a trip.
