My girlfriend and I ate at Moby Dick's over 4th of July week and it was one of the highlights of our vacation! We got in the line and expected quite a wait, but the efficient system had us moving right alone, while in line, we were informed of the specials, and the staff brought out some fresh watermelon for everyone waiting, which was a nice touch. The food was absolutely perfect, and the service and staff were extremely professional and helpful. Todd, the owner was incredibly nice and made our night by comping us an oder of fried clams that we had forgotten to order earlier. We were both very impressed with the whole operation and left feeling full and happy! Been living on the Cape my entire life but never had been to Moby Dick's. there's always a line so we've always figured there must be something to it. If that many people are willing to wait that long for food, it must be good. It isn't. They give you menus while you're in line because you order at the counter when you finally get in the door. Many of the people working there are from someplace else, which is cool and all, they have where they're from right on their name tags. The girl we got is from the UK but had such a thick accent that it was hard to understand her. After you order, they take you to your table and wait for the food to be delivered. No frills is no frills but 12 bucks for chicken nuggets and the most lame, generic French fries you''ll ever get? Crap,paper plates. My burger came without the avocado and salsa I had asked for (and paid for I might add) so I had to ask somebody else (anybody since you don't get an actual server) for it. My mother got the salmon sandwich with pesto (also extra $) and enjoyed it. All in all we were really disappointed and left feeling that not only was this the typical tourist rip em off while they're here joint, it wasn't even a good one. Overpriced and underwhelming. Very crowded with long lines, all to pay top dollar for mediocre food served on paper plates. Having grown up in a small coastal town I have been to restaurants that get this experience right. Moby Dicks however is just an overpriced tourist trap. Will not be going back. read more

We were visiting Wellfleet in mid-September and looking for something inexpensive and local. Moby Dick's fit the bill perfectly! Our party of four enjoyed mussels (good), spring salad with grilled salmon (very good), lobster roll (above average). Still great. Tragically they were sold out of steamers on our last visit but lobster was wonderful as always. A staffer cleared my pkate prematurely while my son was ordering key lime pie, but I managed to alert her and she amazingly brought it back intact so I could finish my lobster tail. This was our first visit. When we arrived the owner came to the door to greet us and explained the ordering system. The customers in line ahead of us did not speak English very well. The english gal Kathy, who was taking their order was very patient. We had the chowdah and fried scallops. Both were very good. Service was also great. During the summer season I live half a mile from Moby's. Excellent food, fair prices, very good service. Lines will be long during the tourist season, so be warned. No alcohol served, but they'll get you a bucket of ice, an opener and anything else you might need in that regard. One note; if it's chilly out it might be chilly inside the restaurant. Amazing lobster and amazing service! We found this place on yelp and it did not disappoint. We were on our honeymoon and the owner personally gave us a free bottle of local wine and an appetizer. Our experience at Moby Dick's was the best! Food was incredibly delicious and fresh. They have the most efficient system of handing out menus on line while you wait, taking your order and payment, and seating you and feeding you quickly. The staff is all highly trained in customer service skills and professionalism and the owner makes rounds himself to make sure you are fully satisfied. He even took time to draw us a map of where the best spot was to see the sunset after dinner. They are considerate enough to include a full gluten-free menu. Excellent service. Excellent food. We stopped by not knowing anything about the place and were not disappointed. Multi national crew was different but interesting to see the countries they came from. We ordered clam chowder, hamburgers, tuna steak sandwich, and scallops. The chowder had hardly any clams or potatoes, it was mostly cream. The hamburgers were frozen patties way over cooked. The scallops were OK, not breaded no spices. The tuna steak was also over cooked, no spices. We went because the reviews were good but ended up paying $100 for low quality food.We didn't try any fried seafood, maybe that would be better. Over priced for what you get. read more

Very cute touristy place. I would agree with the other review - 4 stars for ambience, 2 stars for food quality. Very greasy French fries. Lobster roll tasted like it all had been previously frozen. The roll was cold and seemed to have been frozen all winter and taken out for the summer season today. Not good at all. Tasted freezer burned. The lobster itself was ok but did not taste fresh. I am a native New Englander and have plenty of lobster rolls and this was not the best. I think I have had better from Stop and Shop. The cherry stone clams were also not great. The line was across the front when we arrived and it took about an hour to order BUT it was well worth it. We tried the bangin shrimp appetizer and it was amazing. First time patron of Moby Dicks. We were hopeful as the parking lot is always full. Starting with the good: Great casual fun ambiance, long line but we ordered and were seated really quickly. As for the food, the seafood platter and clam bellies we ordered was delicious. The clam chowder was also great. However, $6 for Kraft boxed mac and cheese my kids ordered is robbery. The lobster bisque was gross - no lobster in it at all and it tasted like paste. The coleslaw actually tasted Ike it was starting to go bad. The "waitstaff" is a joke. You order from the counter, sit down, and food is brought to you. That's it. No follow up. Had to get my kids their own drink refills and get up and hunt down a waitress when the ketchup was empty on the table. First and last time - no thanks. read more

What a great place for a solid seafood meal! I hate coming to the Cape and feeling like I got ripped off by sub-par food that's supposed to fool the out-of-staters, but this was a fabulous treat. Really wasn't expecting the food to be as good as it was considering the relatively low price, but I was very pleasantly surprised by all of it. Moby Dick's is a Wellfleet must. The food is delicious - I haven't had anything I don't like - but the lobster roll, fried scallops, and seafood kebabs are top notch. Even the cole slaw and corn are great. (I do wish they had their own tarter sauce and didn't use the little plastic containers...) Don't miss the key lime pie. A family run business, this place is a well oiled machine and fantastic operation. The customer service is great and one of the owners is always present, walking from table to table to check in on patrons. Be warned that there is typically a line to get in, though it moves quickly. It's also BYOB so be prepared if you want beverages with your dinner; they'll even give you ice buckets while you're on line. read more

I truly don't get it with this place. The long lines made me willing to give it 3 tries. The food is expensive and not delicious. Lobster roll which my husband and I got this last time was fresh, and not covered in mayo which is good, but otherwise had no flavor and was very chewy. A good cook should be able to come up with a way to make it tasty and tender without drowning it in mayo or seasoning. The french fries are frozen out of the bag, the baked potatoes are old and tired, a side of broccoli was limp and old, cole slaw so so. Fish is fresh, but a little dry and tasteless. First time I went, I got scallops filled with sand. $75 for two people in a no -frills place with meh food? No thanks. I'm giving it 2 stars because the ordering system is managed well and the wait staff are friendly. PJ's is much much better and much more reasonably priced. read more

It's a cool atmosphere but the food is expensive and very very mediocre considering I love seafood and have it frequently, I've definitely tasted much better. I wouldn't really recommend it. We have been coming to the Cape for years and were in search of a good seafood restaurant for dinner. We just happened to come across Moby Dicks and figured we would give it a shot, not knowing what to expect. We were immediately greeted by one of the employees who explained the process and gave us menus to look over while we waited. The whole process is well organized, including ordering and being seated. My mother has a severe shellfish allergy and was initially concerned about contamination with her dinner. The lady taking our order make sure to make note of it and told us she would have to get a baked potato and broiled chicken instead of grilled. Our food was delivered in a timely manner, and was very delicious. As the rest of the party ordered seafood, they were sure to bring my mother's food on a separate tray, in order to ensure no cross contamination! The owner stopped by several times to ensure everything was great and that we didn't need anything. She even offered to crack my sisters lobster in the kitchen if it was too difficult for her. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be returning! read more

This restaurant was a five star two years ago, but there have been a major steps backwards in our recent visit. We ordered five different meals and were disappointed with all five. The lobster roll was king of the Cape 2 years ago, but it was very pedestrian this year, neither big nor particularly tasty. I've never bought to add salt and pepper to a lobster roll before and would consider it sacrilegious but did tonight. My son ordered the grilled chicken dinner which came out with absolutely no seasoning and with a pre packaged BBQ sauce you'd expect to find at a truck stop. The Wedge was served at room temperature and likely with the same factory made dressing that came with the chicken. Chicken fingers were definitely not home made and even the kids burger was overlooked. If there was a saving grace, it was the chowder, which was still pretty solid. You line up to order and then the wait staff will seat you after you order. It is an unconventional setup but it seems to work really well. This place came highly recommended by a friend, so we decided to check it out. First off, the rules for ordering are so rigid and calculated that it took away any excitement I had about the place in two seconds. You are run through a series of steps, being told when you can hold the menus, when to give them back, when to go in the door, where to stand to wait, and where to find your next guide for the following steps after ordering. It's clear this place is setup for volume and whatever efficiency expert they hired to keep the lines moving did their job. However, it feels more like waiting in line for a roller coaster ride than having a nice dining experience. We had chowder (definitely not homemade) and a salad which contained a fair bit of wilted lettuce. I get that this is a vacation favorite, but it's not great if you actually like a comfy environment, a welcoming vibe, and fresh, homemade food. read more

We have been coming to moby dicks for years it is an all time fave for our family. This trip left us less than satisfied. We order two kids meal and the seafood platter which cost $50 something dollars. One chicken nugget kids meal cost $9 and had four small pieces of dry nuggets, the seafood or captains platter was lame. Dry over cooked fries and literally 3 scallops maybe a 1/2 cup of whole belly clams and one small piece of cod. I'm not sure if it's because it was off season but for what we paid we thought we would be over stuffed like the millions times before. Seriously disappointing:( read more
