Start. The ambience is rustic and distinctly pub like. Lots of artifacts of a jumbled variety keeps the visual interest. Spacious with a couple of dining rooms a good size bar and outdoor seating area with a an order/pickup window. We visit the Cape every couple of years in September after the summer hoards have left. The last time I was here its mostly strictly BBQ under the prior owners. It was quiet when we were there being late lunch and September. The waitress was friendly almost bubbly and efficient all in a good way. I did not order the BBQ this time. I was in the mood for a "light" lunch. I got the knockwurst special (excellent flavor and texture with a great snap) which is server naked except for the roll and bag of chips. I was going to order the pimento cheese dip but that was 86'd for the day. There were several other items they were out of but the waitress was right up front with those. I ordered the hush puppies. The were crispy, almost a little too much so. Flavor was good and the cajun dipping sauce nailed it. It had some distinct heat but not too much at least for me. My wife had the Mac N' Cheese and the collard greens. The Mac N' Cheese was pretty good and it was creamy without being too wet. I love the name! Block & Tackle....sounds like a great place to watch some college and NFL football! We were able to visit while in Eastham for vacation! Upon entry, we were welcomed and shown to a booth and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. It was a great way to start! We looked at the menu and all of us made our decision for dinner rather quickly! Our drinks arrived and we placed our dinner order. I the smoked chicken plate with cornbread and fries. We also ordered a veggie burger and a cheeseburger one with fries and one with tater tots. As a side dish, we wanted to dry the coleslaw, which was rated a 10 by the two who tried it! Dinner arrived on-time and it was delicious. I had the chicken plate, which was tasty. The cornbread was awesome and the fries were great. I was happy for sure! The cheeseburger plate and veggie burger were rated very high by both parties who finished the entire plate. We were thinking about having some desert but eventually decided against it. The bill came and we were pleased with the total. Very fair Parking- ample Service- awesome Food- tasty Both Indoor and Outdoor places to eat One suggestion: use smaller trays to deliver food so it doesn't look like there is not enough food.....just my 2 cents! We did not stop in the bar....although, I did look in on the way out and the Red Sox were on......as I mentioned earlier, probably a great place to watch some football or sports on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday! Table was sticky. No music so I had to listen to everyone else's conversations. Ice in my iced tea melted immediately. Ribs were okay. On the dry side, but taste was fine. Wasn't crazy about the KC sauce. It was a little on the spicier side and I would have preferred a sweeter option. Cornbread had a funky consistency like a heavy wet sponge. I had to spit it out. When I heard Marconi's Grill & Smokehouse had closed since we'd last been to the Cape, I was disappointed. I have never before or since had such delicious smoked chicken, ribs, pulled pork, so good. When we drove past Block & Tackle, I honestly thought it was a fishing and bait store and didn't think twice, but then another day driving past saw the smoker out front...I rolled down the window and that aroma was all around, smoked meats...ahhhhh. When I looked it up I was pleasantly surprised to see it is the restaurant that took over Marconi Grill, a few small changes but the food is just as succulent, really. I am not a big meat eater normally but this place brings out the carnivore in me. The Mac 'n cheese and cornbread are also delicious and the perfect accompaniment to the pulled pork I had last night. Lots of delicious cocktails, craft beer on tap and other drinks. I couldn't tell you about the dessert I ate so much dinner I couldn't get that far. We like to start our meal with one of their perfectly measured , well balanced cocktail! Just like you would find in any high-end cocktail bars but better,cause you're in the cape! So many great meal options, including combo plates with the very best moist smoked meats. Including chicken, pulled pork, sausage and our favorite ribs. Their sides are really good too. If you're lucky they have their homemade potato salad. Which is probably some of the best I've ever tasted. On this particular night, my husband and I shared a full rack of ribs with a side of beans and potato salad. Simply delicious. This is a family run establishment with a well-trained staff. As year-round Cape Cod residents, we were thrilled to learn that the restaurant was open during the off-season. It's always been a goal of ours to patronize businesses that don't close when tourists (and their dollars) cross the bridge after Labor Day, so when we had errands to run on the Outer Cape, we stopped by. We were one of few people in the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday, and we were made to feel welcome quickly. The draft beer selection was generous, getting us off to an excellent start. My wife and I both had pulled pork - a platter for me and a sandwich for her. The meat was moist and tender to the touch, with a delicate smoky flavor enhanced by just enough black pepper. I did try one of the freshly made sauces but found it a little sweet for my taste. Besides, the pork was exquisitely delicious without it. The sides, in my case, mashed potatoes and collard greens, were both fresh and tasty. All in all, we loved the relaxed vibe, but especially the smoked meats. Needed to try this place the second I drove by. The cape has a few BBQ spots but it's hard to imagine they're any good when all you see is Pizza and Seafood places all over. But something struck me about this one. Got a 3 meat combo: Ribs, Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken. With Mac and Cheese, Beans, Corn Bread, and Slaw. They were very helpful and friendly over the phone as they explained that additional sides were bigger then the sides that come with the meal. So I should choose which sides I want more of. Really appreciated that. First off, Ribs tasted awesome! Not a lot of meat on them but it was tasty. Although I'm kinda torn apart by what honestly makes a good rib. I like a good even split between meat quality and texture and taste and Then the spices it's cooked with. These ribs weren't quite as soft and juicy as I like them to be but the Rub was Out of this World! Perfect blend of sweet and salty and spicy! But it took over the flavor of the meat, is that a bad thing? Idk. Would definitely get again though, so maybe there's your answer. Smoked Chicken was very good. Definitely smoked for awhile and not too much rub on it. Skin wasn't hard wax paper like some places do it, these guys have it still soft enough to eat off with the meat. Pull pork was great in some spots but different in others. Some of it was a traditional chopped pork and the flavor was excellent. But for some reason I got a big fatty clump under all of that, couldn't eat it. Mac and Cheese needs work. Tasted okay but not very cheese and Loaded with breadcrumbs. Not just sprinkled on top, everywhere! Baked beans had a great traditional flavor to them but I feel they could have cooked for a little longer. My rule is the beans should be able to get smooshed in between your tongue and the roof of your mouth. If they don't or it's difficult to then they are not ready. But like I said, flavor was very good. Brown sugar, appley, almost a little citrusy, that type. Slaw needs work to. Shredded just right but hardly any flavor. Not a lot of mayo, which I appreciate but there was hardly anything else. Cornbread was kinda weird. Tasted fine but I'm not sure why they went with the little bundt cake mold. Could have been warmer, could have been softer, could have tasted a bit better but it was fine. Got a lot of points for serving honey butter with it though! 3 Sauces. I loved the Whydah Gold! Always a sucker for gold sauce anyway. Lieutenant's BBQ sauce they say is a take on a Kansas City style, not sure what the twist is but it tasted like a regular KC style to me (that thick molasses sweet stuff). And then they had the Mashpee Mud! Carolina vinegar style. Awesome take on it, still a nice bbq taste to it without being dominated by the power of vinegar, very well done. The fact that they even mention a KC style and a Carolina Style is impressive. All in all a GREAT spot for some good BBQ on the cape. Lot of stuff needs a little work but nothing crazy. read more

Stopped into the block and tackle this past weekend while on the cape for the holiday. My boyfriend and I both ordered the brisket sandwich special. I got mine with Mac and cheese and he got the baked beans. Oh my gosh!! What a great sandwich. The Texas toast was crunchy and delicious. It came with pickles, mustard and brisket. The Mac and cheese was super light and airy. Not heavy like most Mac and cheeses are. A solid bbq place in the area. Will definitely be back again! read more

We ate here while vacationing in cape cod last week and all I gotta say is oh... my.... God. The meal we had is in my top 5 meals of all time. The flavor that the ribs and pulled pork had was sooo rich, smoky, and delicious. The chicken was good too but paled slightly in comparison to the insane flavor of the ribs and pork (at least imo, my girlfriend loved the chicken). The sides that they offer pair perfectly with their main dishes. The Mac and cheese was tasty and the cornbread was the perfect complement to the ribs. I got a beer and my girlfriend one of their signature cocktails, I honestly wished I ordered a cocktail too because this thing was perfectly crafted. It woulda been an outstanding cocktail anywhere else but paired with the food they offered, it was extraordinary!! Oh and lastly their outdoor seating area was cute, comfortable and cozy. Perfect for a date with your significant other or a family outing. Their staff was super friendly too, from the gentleman who took our order to the staff manning the beer truck and dropping off our food. My wife and I went to Block and Tackle with my brothers and sister-in-law in our brand new RAV4 hybrid that we picked up just one day earlier. What proceeded was a lengthy, but tasty BBQ meal on the outer cape. To start, we were quickly served some ice cold fiddleheads on tap. The premium and heady IPAs hit the spot, and we put in our order for a smoked wing app, various meats platters and sandwiches, and lots of Mac and Cheese (and other) sides. The wings came out quickly and were served with a pair of sauces - they were good, a solid 7.8/10. We then proceeded to wait for about 45 minutes for the main courses... apparently due to the fried chicken my brother ordered (quoted clearly with a 20 minute wait on the menu). During that wait, we were greeted by the pit master who clearly had experience smoking meats (judging solely by his beard). When the food came, the meat was all very good, but all food ranged in temperature from cold (like leftover) french fries to steaming hot mac and cheese. Top item was deemed to be the fried chicken. Top accompaniment was the mashed potatoes which came with a gravy boat (classy). While this review is as long as our wait time for the food, Block and Tackle gets 3 stars for solid BBQ on the cape, as long as you have time to spare and room in your belly for 3 fiddleheads. read more
