The oysters were good, but I think after tasting about 7 different restaurants' oysters these fell short. Dinner at Winslow's is always delicious. After a meal there last summer, I dreamt all year long about their gazpacho. Thankfully they had it again for my recent visit. It definitely lived up to my dreams. It is refreshing and has just the perfect hint of spice. We also shared the the Oysters, Basil Pesto Broiled Oysters, Summer Salad, Calamarata Pasta and Strozzapreti Pasta. The ambiance is also, always a major plus. A wonderful vibe in oyster heaven. Wellfleets are the best early in the season (i.e., September). The octopus and blue fish cesar salad was delicious. Our first time being here although we have come to Wellfleet for many years. A great surprise. The presentation and food rivals some of the best restaurants I have eaten in in NYC and Atlanta. Brutal experience unfortunately. they seemed unprepared from the start for the crowd. entrées were forgotten about, and then served over an hour late. They were then not taken off the bill. The after dinner drinks and desserts were forgotten and delivered late. Just not a great experience, and clearly way overpriced. The food quality was not good either. This is a beautiful restaurant inside and out, and our waiter was terrific. We had a vegetarian with us, bordering on vegan most days, and it was tough for her to come up with a meal to order although she asked for cheese to be left off one of the vegetable dishes she ordered. We had the mussels which are an a curry broth that was excellent. We had the pasta dish with pancetta and it just wasn't what we expected. My guess is we might have liked a different dish better. The menu is very heavy on seafood. I would look over the menu before going - the offerings are very creative and might be tough for the people who like more traditional food types, vegetarians or non- seafood eaters. It may be tacky, but I would probably include a burger on the menu. We will probably try again because the staff were great and it's a lovely restaurant. read more

Had dinner last night. They take no reservations for parties less than 6, so we arrived around 5:45pm (they open at 5:30 for dinner) and all the patio tables were already taken, so we settled for a nice table inside, upstairs by the bar with a nice big window looking out. Our waiter was also one of the bartenders and he was nice, polite and friendly We got some drinks and dinner. The food overall was ok, but could had been better. The pasta rosso was extremely salty, the sauce, corn and vegetables in the entree were nice and fresh but the level of salt was very high. The swordfish was a small filet nicely browned in a lemon conserve. The pork chop schnitzel was a nice piece of meat, with a nice crispy breading but tasteless meat on the inside...had to keep dipping the meat in the mustard aioli to get any flavor out of every bite. The bar upstairs is a special place with attentive friendly bartenders and a warm atmosphere. The food was amazing - swordfish schnitzel (wow!) and scallops on risotto (also wow). Overall a nice lunch experience at Winslow's tavern. As others have mentioned, there is a nice outside seating experience on the front lawn, and of course inside dining. It's been many many years since we've visited this restaurant, and has since changed names. Further, it was nice to see that the interior has been redone and is a bit more modern, bright and airy. Service is very casual, and we had a young attentive server. Prices are about average for Wellfleet, a popular tourist destination. Cocktails were good, but I was a little disappointed with my old fashioned. Lots of crushed ice, bourbon and not much more. It seemed to be missing the ingredients that make an Old Fashioned an Old Fashioned! :-) Focaccia bread is offered for an additional charge, and we were glad we ordered it. Not a traditional Focaccia, a bit dry, but it worked well with the tomato accompaniment. Of the dishes we sampled, the lobster croquettes were a win. Perfectly fried, tasty and had plenty of lobster flavor. The meatball appetizer sounded good, but was a bit bland for my taste. The scallop risotto was a beautiful presentation and tasted good as well. We enjoyed our lunch and will consider returning for dinner on another visit to Wellfleet read more

We had a fantastic meal last night at Winslow's! Delicious food, with the four of us each ordering different dishes, and enjoying all. We started with mussels in a very flavorful curry-and white wine sauce. We then chose mostly seafood in interesting preparations, as well as a lighter warm squash salad, though there were also non-fish options and a few classic fish and seafood dishes (fish- and- chips, seafood pasta) as well. Desserts were yummy and well- proportioned, neither tiny nor massive. Good for sharing for 2, (or for one who still has a solid appetite for dessert after a good-sized meal). Cocktails were excellent as well. Our server and the man who bussed our table also added to the experience with their helpfulness. The server gave us great descriptions of the food when we asked, and the meal was paced just right. By coming by and tidying up our table after we left a few drips with the mussels, and offering a bit of friendly chat, the man bussing our table also made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The place was bustling, but not loud. Such a warm, delicious spot. We've been to Winslow's twice before in the last two or three years, and have always enjoyed it. read more

Probably the worst meal of a bad week of meals on the Cape in Provincetown and Wellfleet. I chose one of the specials for my entrée which was local striped bass with some kind of potato which the server recommended. The fish was old and tasteless and the potato was like three day leftover potato au gratin. I guess it was a special because they were trying to get rid of it. I told the server I ate it because I was hungry but not to recommend it to anyone else. I paid the bill and they gave me a complementary meal voucher for next time. I'm leaving the Cape tomorrow and probably won't be back to this restaurant.. Gave the complementary meal voucher to my friend who lives here on the Cape so he might be able to use it. My mom and I were staying in a BnB next door to this place and so decided to come down for dinner our first night. I got the sangria which was fantastic. We got the house made bread which was the best part of the meal, and two entrees. Our server was nice and we sat in the lawn which was a beautiful setting. The next day we wanted something different for dinner but couldn't resist coming back for the sangria and bread and of course some oysters to start our night. Pretty much flawless all around. Being Wellfleet, oysters seemed appropriate so I started with a broiled oyster appetizer: 6 on the half shell. Did not disappoint but maybe the miso chive butter topping was a bit too assertive and next time I'd probably try one of the others: lemon rosemary or tabasco lime. Amusingly served on a bed of beach rocks and seaweed. Careful: those rocks are not potatoes which you might take them for after finishing one of their potent cocktails! (An Islay Old Fashioned: basically the standard, enhanced with a "Laphroig mist", whatever that means. No matter, it was excellent.) Entree: Pan seared cod. Beautifully browned and expertly cooked to perfect just-doneness. There's a lot happening on this plate: 2 kinds of potato they describe as puree (aka mashed) and confit (essentially deep-fried mashed). Not redundant at all, seriously. Also red pepper couli, "torn olives" (torn? getting a bit carried away with the adjectives are we?), harissa aioli, more. A lot to take in. The portion, not so much. My impression is it could have been larger. Honestly though it was adequate and with the variety I took my time eating and thoroughly enjoyed it. If I had one criticism it would be not providing complimentary bread. They did have several options including focaccia with evoo for $5 but I skipped it. Service was flawless. Waitperson was available when needed, knowledgeable, and personable. No unreasonable delays, nor did I feel rushed even though I was dining solo and by the time I finished the patio where I sat was full. (Plenty of room still inside however.) The outdoor seating was in front overlooking the quiet street in a brick courtyard, under a shady oak and surrounded by well-tended greenery. Really nice. I took a look inside and the indoor dining spaces look nice too, with two choices: the dining room and the upstairs bar. (No TV's - a big plus.) For dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake - hoping to erase my nightmarish memory of the atrocity I had the day before at another establishment. Accompanied by a decent espresso. The details are already escaping me but it was a masterpiece. Beautifully plated with at least 2 sauces, blueberries, other things I forgot. The cake was everything a flourless chocolate should be: smooth, dense, bitttersweet, not too moist, intensely chocolatey. Enough? Apparently not: this included a second chocolate item: a bar, sweeter and firmer, more like a milk chocolate, that nicely contrasts with the bitttersweet darkness of the cake. read more

Very happy with the meal we had here! The food is great quality and I happened to go here on a weekday evening and was able to get a table outside without waiting longer than 5 minutes. The interior is also really nice, but you can't beat the ambiance of sitting outside on a summer evening surrounded by greenery, overlooking Wellfleet center. I would absolutely recommend the lobster croquetas and the meatballs for starters. The meatballs has a harissa red sauce, but it's not spicy at all. The meat was delicious and tender. I got the Niçoise salad as well sweet corn risotto with scallops. I will say that the photos of the risotto on Yelp don't do the plate justice and it tastes way better than it even looks. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other dishes on the menu. I would definitely recommend dining here at least once if you're going to be in Wellfleet! read more

first, what's good. all the staff are super friendly and helpful, the oysters and mussels were fabulous, and the flourless cake desert was to die for. But the $14 drinks were underwhelming, i had to send my Manhattan back because they put so many ice cubes in it that it tasted like flavored water, so I asked for one without ice. The sea bass crudo lacked taste, as did the swordfish which had a topping of sautéed onions with capers the combination of which lacked taste as well. read more

A beautiful summer evening was the perfect time to have dinner on the lawn at Winslow's tavern. The setting was lovely, the wait staff attentive and the food was quite good. So many of the appetizers sounded great we decided to skip the dinner menu. The focaccia with caramelized onion dip was just as as you would expect - thick, chewy bread lightly flavored with rosemary with a mild onion dip. The zucchini salad looked beautiful, but the zucchini was a bit bitter and the peaches a bit too firm for my taste but my friend loved it. The fingerling potatoes fried in duck fat were amazing- so crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. The mussels were cooked perfectly with a mild curry sauce below. For a Cape Cod restaurant Winslow's tavern gets a solid 5 stars. Sitting on the front lawn mixed with the great service made it a special night out. read more

Party of four Sat down at 645, it took 15 minutes for the waiter to stop by to take an order. Started out with martinis and ordered five small plates. When we asked which of the baked oysters flavors were house favorites our waiter responded I don't like oysters they are like snot in a shell with a brine taste. As we were consuming the small plates we also ordered a bottle of wine. We were going to order two entrees but the waiter never stopped by after bringing the wine, probably 45 minutes to an hour. By the time we caught his attention he informed us the kitchen had been closed for 20 minutes (830pm). It is the middle of winter so the restaurant was not full to the extent that he couldn't have checked in or warned us the kitchen was to about to close. We nearly skipped trying this restaurant because of some negative reviews. Actually we went first to The Pearl in Wellfleet, but it turned out to be closed for lunch. Turned out we instead found another good place to dine in town. Winslow's is a charming, friendly establishment right next to City Hall. We chose to eat outside. The servers were excellent. Great attitudes and knowledgeable about the menu. All 4 of us were more than pleased with our meals. The hubs had a clam and calamari special, our friends had a scallop roll and a pulled pork sandwich. I had the fish tacos. Every dish was fresh and seasoned to perfection. If you enjoy a gin and tonic, try the Edward Winslow G&T (with cucumber, cilantro and jalepeno). Yum! I am glad we ignored the negative reviews. Still scratching my head about a couple of them. We used to love this place; historic town center location, cozy, great food, $1/oyester happy hour....but now....totally sucks. The bartender is so rude and short. What an amazing dining experience! First, we ate outside on a perfect evening in early August. Second, every item we ordered was stellar (tip of the hat to Chef Phillip) - the Sweet Corn and Scallop Risitto was perfect. Third, the staff are just incredibly friendly and informative, and truly enjoy what they are doing: bringing you a great and relaxed dining experience. If you can't get there in the waning days of summer (they are closed in the "off season") please make sure and get there next season. Just ask Tracey (front of house manager) for a seat outside!!! We arrived around 530 when the restaurant opened. Drinks, apps and dinner out by 630. Not really a relaxing atmosphere. Sat outside and before we had a chance to look at the menu our server was there asking us for a drink order. When they brought the drinks we were asked if we were ready to order. We had an appetizer that was good. Our dinners arrived very quickly and we felt kind of rushed. The scallops and risotto were lukewarm. The seafood pasta broth lacked flavor. The shrimp pasta was ok. I had just officiated a wedding at the Wellfleet Preservation Society and enjoyed a celebratory martini with some sweet warm Wellfleet Oysters. We enjoyed the "neighbors" at the bar and John kept the drinks flowing. I ordered a Sauvignon blanc and was happy to see their offerings included an easily drinkable South African white. e have been going to Winslow Tavern since they opened many years ago and always looked forward to this dining experience. We had a two disappointing dinners there last summer and unfortunately, yet again tonight (July 2024). Their clam chowder was always my favorite with sweet corn as part of the base- my watery bowl tonight truly did not have one piece of a clam in it and I counted one kernel of corn. The sea bass was mediocre with truly no flavor and the layered rectangle of potato was an unappetizing dark brown mass that was hard to even cut through-again, no flavor. We had to ask the waitress what it was! The seafood pasta dish was just ok- truly nothing to remember. We are just so disheartened and sad that one of our favorite places to dine has become a place that we will not go to again. read more

The clam chowder was fine, but served not hot - warm in some places and cold in others. The oysters were fine, and they were Wellfleet oysters, so I expected them to be really good. The roasted cauliflower was about a quarter of a head, which seemed to be steamed, and then perhaps pan sautéed on one side. It did not taste like it had been roasted in an oven. And if it had, it was more steamed and roasted. The cheese and asparagus was good. I ate the most of that dish out of all the dishes. And the scallop was also very nicely cooked. Too bad it was just one scallop! We had a tamale special which I was excited about, but was also pretty bland. It feels like they're trying really hard, and their menu is inventive and interesting, but the food is just not very good. read more

Visited lunchtime. Ordered the local mussel main . Very small portion with among the tiniest size mussels I ever had and at least 20% of shells were empty . Before ordering I had specifically asked the waitress about the size of the mussels , stating that I did not want small ones: she said they were medium sized. When I complained to her about the size and poor condition of the mussels, she responded that possibly I wanted to order an additional dish. That is Not an acceptable response , particularly at those prices. I would have objected but I was being treated to lunch. The host and the other guest were happier with their choices; however one was surprised that his duck was spicy although neither the menu nor the waitress mentioned that .
