With the almost diner-type/ no-frills setup, the Mayflower has history and a classic Cape Cod charm. Located right on Commercial St buzzing with both locals and tourists, this spot served us two very satisfying meals. My husband and I are steamer fans, so coming to Ptown was like stepping into my pescatarian element. The Mayflower didn't disappoint on our 1st day. On the 2nd day, I went back specifically for their lobster roll. While it's smaller than some oversized versions I had in town, the flavor more than made up for it. The bread held up all the lobster meat and drawn butter beautifully. Hubs being the carnivore he is, settled on the broiled pork chops which he loved. Our last dinner in ptown was The Mayflower. Frankly I've never gone here and we decided to give it a shot. The Lobster Pot is always so crowded and has a long wait. Let me tell you, forget the lobster pot and hit this place up. All the servers are wonderful. The queer o meter is as all in ptown a 10+++++ and the food did not disappoint. I went the steamers and lobster route. The steamers were, I'd say about 1.5lbs and cooked to perfection. Seriously the best I've ever had, even ones I've made at home. No grit, no rubbery bits and no added flavors to the water. Steamers in their purest sense served with drawn butter. I could've eaten 5 more orders. The lobster was 1.25 lbs served with 1 side. I got rice pilaf. The rice was fine. Nothing to write home about but the lobster, again, cooked to perfection. My wife got the chicken cutlet "burger" and fries. She said they were delicious. I stole a fry and they were hot and tasty. The bloody was spot on too - I swear you can't get a bad bloody in ptown. Our waiter was the sweetest gentleman and we chatted with him a bit. Seating is spaced out nicely and comfortable. It's not fancy or glittery, but it's now going to be one of my go to spots. I can't believe it took me 25 years to finally dine at this gem. It's definitely undersold and should be a hot spot. The location is perfect too. Do yourself a favor and stop in here on your trip for fairly priced, good portions, great food and wonderful service. My family was ordering in tonight and my mom said that she loved the lobster casserole so we had to order from here. I ordered the 8 oz piece of chicken with vegetables and the peel shrimp appetizer. My whole family seemed to love their meals so I'm not entirely sure why my experience was different. The first mistake was that our orders were placed in the wrong to go bags and our meals were mixed up even though we said that it was important. The second mistake was that I ordered the vegetables with my chicken but they gave me the potato instead. It was the saddest and smallest piece of chicken next to a potato in foil. I seriously doubt it was 8 oz. I also didn't think it was possible for chicken to be damp unseasoned, and overcooked at the same time. It was so disappointing that I couldn't finish my food which was so unlike me. Moral of the story if you're too afraid to cook chicken, you should never cook chicken. Also a little bit of flavor never killed anyone. I am beyond happy that my shrimp was really good. It wasn't overcooked or undercooked. They also gave me a lot. I would say that next time I should just order more shrimp but we all know there isn't going to be a next time. I had to add some of my own vegetables. read more

The location is on the main strip in Provincetown. It's been serving seafood in PTown for a century. There was a 30 minute wait to be seated. Unfortunately, they did not offer a waiting area for patrons. There is a small bar that holds maybe 2 people. So we waited outside to be called. No texting or paging system to notify waiting patrons. Some tech upgrades would be nice. Once seated our waiter was very helpful with the menu. He got our water and beverages promptly. We ordered a lobster roll and pork chops. I really wanted to love this place but it missed the mark with the food. The lobster was over cooked and portion very small for the price. The mayflower is a cute diner right on commercial street in Provincetown. I visited on a Sunday afternoon, albeit not at peak times, and there was ample seating available. The server was alacritous and eager to keep my Diet Coke filtered, which I appreciated. I ordered a beyond burger, which was well prepared and came with some delicious and crispy fries. My one small gripe is that most of the fish here is fried, and the selection seemed limited. I would have loved some baked fish or some tuna steak, but in could not find much of that on the menu. This was a wonderful place to eat for lunch. The menu has a large variety of options. I had the clam strips. They were breaded and fried perfectly. The batter was light and crunchy. The other 3 table mates got a different option on the menu. Looks like none of the options are bad options. Service was a little slow. Took a bit for the waitress to get the drink orders. And we waited a really long time (35 mins) to get the check and pay for our meals. When she took the last plate, we said we were ready to cash out. It's a good old school Ptown restaurant. Service is competent, the decor is traditional and the food is typical cape food. All that you would expect from a cape dinner out. While in P-town, we stumbled across this GEM! Great selection of food, specials and prices were great. We had the honor of getting Martin as our server. He was awesome. Marin was friendly, knowledgeable on the menu, and was a pleasure to talk to as we had asked him for a locals perspective on the area. He offered great drink suggestions and checked over our order before he put it into the kitchen. Once our food arrived he was attentive, filled our water often and always had a smile on his face. Our food was fantastic. I had the lobster salad plate and my bf had the surf and turf with lobster. If we find ourselves back in town we will be sure to seek out The Mayflower once again! My family and I have come here for our annual trips for the last five years. Every time we are able to get seated pretty much right away. This year it was especially empty which was slightly sad to see. For our entrées we ordered a lasagna, chicken fingers and french fries, seafood casserole, eggplant Parmesan, kale soup, and Salisbury steak. As always the food comes out hot and fresh. Everyone loved their dishes. This was the first time I had a fresh as opposed to frozen Salisbury steak dinner, and let me say I will never be able to look at those the same anymore. The steak was cooked medium and was served with a thick flavorful gravy. I was happy I opted for the velvety mashed potatoes as opposed to French fries as the gravy elevated the dish. The chicken tenders were crispy and moist with the tasty French fries. Pickle was crisp and fresh. My mom loved her seafood casserole as well and my friends and their dishes. Came on a Wednesday night with a group of friends and was mediocrely enthused. I ordered a bowl of the New England clam chowder and was disappointed overall. The flavor was missing overall, as were the clams, I could count with one hand how many were in the bowl. For dinner, I ordered a hot lobster roll which was incredibly dry. I had to request not one but two sides of melted butter to enhance the roll to expectation, however delicious the fries and coleslaw were. Solid 3-3 and 1/2 star experience last night. I've been walking by the Mayflower for years and just never made it in. Staff is great-friendly, efficient and funny. There were three of us and it was still pretty early...so we were told to sit wherever we'd like. The staff actually made the meal...we enjoyed all of our interactions with them. Appetizers: the steamers were very good with plenty to share. The baked clam was just ok...super thick and bready with not many clam pieces...but I was hungry and it was a solid portion. Dinner: my companions had the lobster special (1 and a quarter pound) served with a side of choice (baked potato); I had the baked seafood casserole. The lobsters were cooked well and the baked potatoes were just right. My seafood casserole (a few scallops, one shrimp and a nice serving of white fish...cod??...can't recall)...all served piping hot with a "ritz cracker" buttery crust. Decent...a little greasy for my taste and definitely had lots of sodium (based on how much water I retained overnight!). We stuck with soft drinks but there is a nice assortment of adult beverages to choose from. Desserts were tempting but no room this time. While the chicken Parm was tasty aside from the bland spaghetti with tomatoes sauce on the side, I say the seafood bake casserole was to be missed. It tasted excellent: toasted golden brown, buttery, garlicky, and gluteny, just the way I like it! A no-brainer if you want a filling appetizer good to share (I barely shared). For $11.99, I also ordered a grilled chicken sandwich on a bulkie roll (plain, boring sandwich bun), and the whole thing was bland as bland can be. The fries were unsalted, extremely plain, and tasteless. The only thing that had taste on that plate was the pickle. Seriously. Avoid. The service was fairly standard and satisfactory---nothing too memorable. If I returned, I would order the garlic bread again but a different entree. read more

We love to come to Provincetown every year on vacation, and we always make it a point to go to the Portuguese bakery across the street, and the Mayflower Café. Why? To be honest, the Mayflower Café in the Portuguese bakery are two of the more reasonably priced places in town where you can grab a meal... But the Mayflower café is more than that. They have a classic American diner style menu, the portions are good sized, the food is tasty and the wait staff is very very friendly. In fact, when I do odd requests, like I asked to add onions to a salad? they smile and comply very quickly and easily with no friction at all to strange orders. That's always a plus to people like me who like things just a little bit different. So overall after you feel like you've been spending too much money in other places in Provincetown, try this. We especially recommend their Portuguese kale soup! You may find that there are different kinds of Portuguese kale soup's in the town.... it's a local dish. Mayflower's is tasty, and more brothy; keep trying all of them as you wander about town. read more

I tried three other places and no one had fried clams. Sadly Mayflower did. Service was fine. Other servers seemed more attentive to their tables, but I didn't need much. The place had the basic atmosphere of typical diner at rush hour. Many full tables, lots of hubbub. The menu seems to aspire to be a bit more with gourmet overtones. They definitely have a "Portuguese" flair. This however didn't apply to my Oder of food. The fried clams. At $40 dollars the platte ought to have been a platter and pretty damn spectacular one at that. The menu didn't specify the price but the clam strips were not expensive and the waiter who didn't quite get my order right to begin with assumed whole clams so I went with it. Ok forget the price let's discuss quality. First the fries. Cold and hard. The clams Luke warm and mostly tasteless. I could maybe imagine paying the price for an exceptional order of that size, but for a cold tasteless order. Jeez. Made me long for the days when Howard's Johnson's had unlimited fried clams on Fridays. Then there is the tartar sauce. For the kind of money they are charging, they ought to 1) be making it them selves or 2) buy a much better pre packaged brand. This was a disgusting mess. We stopped by Mayflower cafe initially for two main reasons: 1. My usual spot Lobster Pot had a massive line and there were a few hangry people with me and 2. They were posting some amazing deals on the window ($21.99 for a pound and a quarter lobster with a side? $10 Steamers? Sign me up!). Upon entering, I was a little worried considering it was pretty empty during the lunch hour and the interior decoration was in need of a refresh. Putting that thought aside, I went ahead with my Lobster and Steamers order. All my doubts disappeared when the dishes arrived. The steamers were massive, fresh, and well-cleaned with only one sandy steamer in the pound. They hit the spot when dipped in the hot, drawn butter. The lobster itself was absolutely massive - with mine being slightly bigger than my friends. More importantly, it was absolutely fresh and not overcooked whatsoever.
