I don't often write restaurant reviews, but I've been to Helltown Kitchen several times and feel like they've earned one. They've been consistently excellent--great food, warm service, and a lively, comfortable atmosphere. The dishes are always flavorful and satisfying, and the lobster risotto, in particular, is outstanding. It's rare to find a place that delivers this well, every time.

Tonight's dinner was one of the best I have eaten in Provincetown. The appetizer spring rolls were superb, the short ribs over Mac and Cheese were the best Mac and Cheese I have ever eaten. The lobster risotto is without equal. Lastly, the tres leches was sinfully wonderful. The service was prompt and gracious and the ambiance was equal to the food.

I came to Helltown Kitchen with my family already knowing what I was going to order. I ordered the shrimp vindaloo and it came with rice and naan. The food was amazing. I order the vindaloo every time I stop by. We also really enjoy the outdoor seating, and the service is really quick. If you stop by Helltown Kitchen be sure to check out the interior because their wall decorations are beautiful and the wallpaper stands out. There are a lot of great options, even though I usually stick to the same thing. I've also gotten a taste of the Elote Corn. I haven't visited the restaurant a lot during my visits but every time I stop by, I love the experience.

We went twice in three days this year. Favorite restaurant in Provincetown; small and eclectic menu, excellent service, relaxing and elegant atmosphere and dog-friendly. A win-win-win. Look at the photos: we loved the avocado crab salad as an appetizer (I would have that one for lunch!). I tried both the lobster risotto on one night and the black rice scallop risotto on another instance - can't decide on which one I love more. My dinner partner had the steak (in a coconut sauce - superhealthy) and the seafood medley. All cooked to perfection and very recommended. Bottom line: this is our very favorite restaurant in P-town. 5 stars for food, atmosphere, service, comfort, privacy and elegance. And superb staff and owner. I suspect one of the reasons we'll be back to Ptown next year, will be to dine at Helltown.

    Beautiful back patio

Helltown is the place to be! The food was FANTASTIC and wonderfully prepared. There is great outdoor seating in a lovely back patio as well as indoor dining too! The staff are incredibly friendly and hardworking. What a beautiful place!

OK food but over-priced, not unusual for P-town of course. The staff is proficient and the ambiance is very nice.

Shaking Beef, a signature dish from the old days, has been reworked and is inferior to the original. The sauce now overwhelms the beef rather than showcasing it. Getting rid of the watercress, which provided a great flavor and texture contrast, and replacing it with peppers and baby choi, is a step in the wrong direction. The dish is tasty but no longer special. My companions had duck and lamb. Both said the dishes were fine but nothing special. The lamb had a disappointing strawberry-port reduction that tasted of neither ingredient and lacked the sweetness you'd expect. Overall, a disappointment. I hadn't been to the Mews for a few years and I'm not sure I'll return, particularly given how expensive the entrees now are.

Interior design is a personal choice, and let's just say the new interior reminded me of a corporate hotel restaurant. And the two-top tables are way too small and spaced closely. More than half the upstairs is now a large u-shaped bar. The food was a total letdown. It took over 30 minutes to get our appetizer of Sweet Chilli Shrimp ($20). Described as Panko-crusted fried shrimp with sambal agave and cilantro-lime crème. The shrimp were lukewarm with a heavy panko coating, not crispy, and the crème tasted like tartar sauce, no hint of cilantro or lime, and then a dot of sambal--an off-putting combination. The Shaking Beef ($38) is nothing like the traditional preparation or how it was made here in the past. Firstly, the cut of beef was inferior with many of the pieces overcooked, dried out, and chewy. An attempt, I guess, to be creative with different veggies, but be wary of the slices of very hot chilis on top (unless that's the dominant taste you want!) If you've ever had the original at the Slanted Door in CA, you'll know what I mean. I hate to write a negative review as the server I recognized from past days was super helpful and friendly.

My allergy wasn't an issue at Tin Pan, so yay! It was a gorgeous day for outdoor seating, and I was able to snag a table outside. I had a glass of non-alcoholic Pinot Grigio from their "sober-curious" menu, which had quite a few different options. I went with the Alley Club sandwich sans bacon, since only wanted something light before my ferry back to Boston. The sandwich came with a nice salad that had a great champagne vinaigrette--which I now want to recreate at home. Friendly service, great scenery, and a very nice club sandwich. Not something I would think I would say, but the little spread of herb mayo really made the turkey pop. It was also surprisingly filling, and the veggies were really fresh. I know that sounds elementary, but I too often get sandwiches that come with limp lettuce or soggy tomatoes. Not the case here! Well done, Tin Pan Alley
