Birthday dinner. We have been going to the Impudent Oyster for 20+ years. Food is always very good, especially the seafood Service is good. Nice dining room. Just off Main Street in Chatham.

After 40+ years of visiting the Cape, this is definitely my favorite restaurant. We visited on a rainy, cold, cloudy Saturday in May and sat at the bar for lunch. The atmosphere is cozy and the service friendly. We started with Wellfleet Oysters and they were excellent. The house-made chips are terrific -- thick and crunchy, with no oily taste. The appetizer calamari was enough for a meal; crispy coating and a very nice greens and tomato salad. Lobster roll was also really good and at a reasonable price . Best part of the meal was the rye Manhattan!

Highly reccomended if you're staying in Chatham. Seems like reservations go pretty quick so if you're planning ahead (or have more than two people) definitely try to make a reservation. We walked in (bar seating only for walk ins) and put our name down. We were told about 45 minutes. By the time we parked the car at our hotel and walked back we waited about 15 minutes. So worth the wait. We shared an app from the specials - Thai crab cake. It combined interesting elements (crab cake, coleslaw, thai curry, and shoestring fries) that went so well together. I got the lobster ravioli from the specials. One of the best seafood pasta dishes I've ever had. The vodka sauce was creamy and they don't skimp on the scallops, shrimp, and big pieces of juicy lobster. Husband had the first dish on the main entree menu (something Diablo) he loved it. The drinks (husband got a dirty martini and an espresso martini) and mocktail (not too sweet - refreshing) were also spot on. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. I actually really liked the vibe at the bar. Again would definitely recommend.

Clams casino and raw bar sampler

Amazing time! First time visiting Cape Cod and was recommended this place for the "locals only" atmosphere. Didn't make a reservation but the bar was first come first serve and only a 30 min wait. The shoppes around were very cute to visit while we waited. Food for 2 was the raw bar sampler - oysters clams and shrimp (all large and incredibly flavorful), clams casino and the broiled cod with the potato and goats cheese cake, green beans, capers, and beure blanc sauce. All delicious! Service was well timed and attentive to our pace and when we split a main, they plated the dish in half beautifully which was very nice and made each dish look special! The company at the bar were all locals and had great conversation - 10/10.

    Braised Short Rib

One fine night on the cape my friend and I drifted along the coast like dreary travelers looking for a comforting meal and ambiance. A quick yelp search brought us to Impudent Oyster - a classy, mahogany themed restaurant nestled to the side of main street Chatham. We walked in to a buzzing scene. Dimly lit, classy decor and busy. This is a great place for a classy dinner with friends or a date. We promptly seated ourselves at the bar after a small 15 min wait. The bartender quickly served us drinks. The oysters Rockefeller were calling my name and I immediately ordered those, and am I glad that I did. These are some of the best charbroiled oysters I've ever had. The filling was generous, buttery and delicious with chunks of seafood. They are served on a bed of hot rock salt which I believe only helps their savoriness. An absolute dream. I was on the fence about what to get for my entree and on the bartender's recommendation went for the braised short rib. This dish was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. The beef was braised so beautifully, in a red wine reduction on a bed of potatoes with perfectly charred winter vegetables like carrots and parsnip, but the real magical element were the onion rings adding sweetness and crunch to the whole dish. We also met some old timers and learned this restaurant is nothing short of a Chatham institution. If you are in the cape, please come here and have some wonderful food!

Scallop sandwich and daily side dish

We stopped in here after searching, high and low for the best clam chowder in the Cape. This place was highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. The clam chowder was some of the best we had while visiting the Cape. All the staff was friendly enough, the restaurant could definitely use some updates. It's extremely old with creaky old chairs and booths. I got the scallop sandwich and the daily side dish. The sandwich was fantastic! I ended up eating the inside and leaving the bread because I felt like it was too much. The pasta side dish was average and I probably wouldn't get it again. We will definitely come back for the chowder!

Highest of recommendations!…read more Right in Route 28 as you head into Chatman Shopping District. Plenty of parking and open year round. Like the old Caswell's in Marshfield, you buy at a counter, they give you a number, and you sit on down as food is brought to you. The inside of Mac's is very clean and spacious, and has about twenty tables. There is seating outside - seasonal and today is January, with snow... so we stayed inside. Started off with the Mac's Clam Chowder which was a lovely milk broth - just as good as the chowder at the Clark Cooke House in Newport, Rhode Island! Homemade, flavorful and not jammed with excessive potatoes or onion; the clams were cooked well. I had the fish soup, looked almost like Portuguese Kale, but was very delicious, had a bit of heat to it, the fish was downright incredible; the carrots, celery, and onions were cooked to perfection. We usually get some raw bar, and they have a nice selection of little necks, cherry stones, and oysters, but today for us it was a pound and half of steamed clams. Plump, clean, and sand free. Just as good as those at Mattakeese Wharf Restaurant. Lobster... I asked for a two pounder, and got a 2.5 pounder. Fresh, delicious, succulent, and sweet. Wonderful and hard working staff. No negatives whatsoever.

So happy we made the effort to try Branches during our day trip to Chatham. We ordered : - Escovitch Red Snapper with rice and peas, plantains, cole slaw (prepared w/o mayo thank you very much). - Jerk Chicken with Salad, croûtons. The chef was kind to start us off with a delicious delicate ginger laced broth. We perused the Rum Punch menu, but we'll try next time we venture out. Great waitstaff. We'll definitely be back. Pretty good food but I wasn't crazy about the ambience. It was very noisy and there were many TVs,…read morewhich I find distracting even with the sound turned off as they were. And when the music started it was too loud even for conversation with my dining partner across the too-small two-seat table. But aside from those issues it was a pretty room, richly colored hardwood floors and the walls festively painted and adorned with touches from Jamaica and other sunny locations. Being a Jamaican restaurant, albeit with many standard American items too, we both wanted to try Jamaican. We started with an appetizer plate of Conch Fritters, then I got the Oxtail and he got the Curried Goat. The fritters were disappointing: fried too dark and not much seafood flavor if any, and the sauce was pretty much standard Thousand Island-style aioli. Surprisingly expensive for the smallish portion of 5 fritters. My Oxtail entree consisted of the beef, stewed in a dark flavorful sauce. Tender and easy to eat but you really need to use your fingers to get the meat off these tiny bones. There wasn't really enough meat though. The beans and rice side was good as were the mixed vegetables: mostly cabbage and onions, sauteed in oil with lots of garlic. His Curried Goat was in a very dark sauce intensely flavored with cinnamon, allspice, and more. It was a more generous portion than my oxtail. He thought it was good but salty. I tried a small piece. It was good meat, tender, and the sauce was intriguing and complex but I agreed: far too salty. I'm ok with salt but I know some people that would send it back and I wouldn't blame them. Still, if I were returning I'd get that instead of the oxtail, though I might try something entirely different next time. There was a complimentary course delivered after the appetizer before the entrees: small portions of some sort of soup: A thin chicken-y broth enhanced with island flavors. Nothing really special but I very much appreciate "amuse bouches" and other unexpected additions to a meal. The drinks menu included many beers which I don't tend to drink. Several specialty cocktails and Rum Punch, which I tried. I enjoyed it but don't believe it was from fresh-squeezed juice; probably a mix. The alcohol quantity seemed adequate. The music? At a Jamaican restaurant maybe you're hoping for Reggae or something Caribbean-oriented? Sorry, just three middle-aged men performing old rock-and-roll hits popular in their youth, singing and playing guitars and banjos. Nothing special but I do appreciate live music, and their efforts. But as I said, once the music started, conversation became almost impossible in this small room. Worth another visit? Sure. Several other Caribbean dishes to try. I don't see the point of coming here for American food; plenty of other places around for that. But good to have the option if not everybody in the party wands Jamaican.

I went for their current advertised Lobster roll special at $23.99. Ordered Exactly as advertised and was charged $25.99. I asked first if it was all claw and knuckle or if they use tail meat too. Oh, definitely both , she exclaimed! I found one small mangled piece of tail at the bottom and it included a sharp piece of shell that hurt my tongue. I told them and showed her the shell. All she did was explain how they try to get it all but they just can't sometimes. I looked at her and said that they aren't doing it right. I asked if she was going to offer me a partial refund and she refused. The Lobster bisque was not a bisque and I don't think there was any lobster in the kitchen when it was made, much less in the pot!! Cole slaw was covered in spicy pepper and neither of us could eat it. Fries were meh! My husband had the fried scallop platter and they were overcooked and super greasy. Disgustingly so. I DK why people like this place but there are so many good places around here where you can get a full service meal, in a real restaurant cooked by real trained chefs and served by professionals who know how to make consumers happy. Total bill with tip was $84.07!!! For a crappy meal with no service and not a clue about customer service. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this garbage.

What stands out: Some of the Peruvian / Colombian offerings are fantastic. Staff have a deep sense of kindness and hospitality. Even though they close at 8 p.m., they not only took the Pardner's just-under-the-wire order, but didn't rush us in the least. It wasn't until we'd finished and were on our way out that we noticed the hours -- and that we were 20 minutes past eight. The lobster ceviche was a touch spendy for the price, size, and the amount of lobster included in the dish. But it was very tasty, Peruvian in style and garnished with cancha and sweet potato, just the right amount of heat and acid. Empanadas were, I think, Colombian in style, made out of orange-tinged masa, beautifully deep fried with juicy innards -- wonderful. Tacos were made out of a soft flour tortilla and a hard corn taco shell, I guess not unlike a Taco Bell "chalupa." It was not what the Pardner was hoping for, unfortunately. There were two tacos to an order, which averaged out to be $9 or $10 a taco. Probably a bit steep for those of us who are lucky enough to be in a place where good south and Latin American food is more commonplace. This is the kind of menu I want to get to know. Not everything is to our own personal tastes, but there are some things that this place seems to do very, very well. I'd like to come back for those.
