Sweet little cafe that serves the BEST breakfast bowls. Service was great and food was even better!

Great location on main street in the heart of shopping district in Chatham. We rolled in for a late lunch enticed by the all-day breakfast options. We had a pancakes, eggs and a grilled swordfish sandwich (because we felt like it). Pancakes were very large but well cooked. Eggs were eggs, nothing too exciting. The grilled swordfish was less appealing. A bit on the smallish side and seasoning was a bit bland. Mixed feelings about the service. Cute little unassuming spot in the downtown area. Dipped inside, late morning, looking for breakfast. Seated immediately. Coffee for me and iced tea for my wife. She ordered the Southwestern Scrambled Bowl and I ordered traditional eggs Benedict. Both were delicious. The eggs might have been the most perfectly poached eggs I've ever eaten. The wait at the sidewalk gives you an opportunity to peruse the posted menu. Our wait was short, and we were able to chose a patio table on this pleasant morning. This small restaurant has a full bar and two tap beer selections. Definitely a local, casual vibe here. This morning I opted for the Oatmeal Walnut Cranberry Oatmeal, $7. Frankly, it had a to thick, almost goopy texture, but it was very tasty. The warm oatmeal was slightly sweet, a touch of cinnamon, and I loved the cranberries and periodic crunch of the walnuts. Hubs couldn't decide so he ordered both the Classic Eggs Benedict and the 2 stack Pancakes. Both of these breakfast entrees were very good, and he shared! The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and sat atop a thick cut of Smokey Canadian bacon. Very good. The pancakes were delish, too, and served with real maple syrup. The food was great, the experience was not. We stood outside the sign that said "Wait to be seated" and the hostess stared at us but never acknowledged us. She then closed a rope over the entrance and still did not answer us when we had asked how to put our name in. The waiter quickly had us decide our food, having us order appetizers and food at the same time. Good thing we did, because he never returned. Our empty bowl of chowder sat on the table for the duration of the meal and he never once checked on us or asked how things were- my husband's water glass sat empty. It was as if every single employee was forced against their will to be there. Very odd. The other folks dining also commented about this cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. She knew she wanted to go to Chatham, but she didn't know where. As I am the dutiful husband, I pulled the trusty cellular and fired up the old google machine. Exposure to a delectable Blueberry french toast casserole made the drool start and the gas pedal floored. Quaint surroundings of a nautical theme, tightly packed tables, and amazing chow. First time in recorded history that "leftover bacon" became a thing. I was physically unable to finish the bacon after hoovering the blueberry breakfast bread pudding. Leftover bacon!!!! OK so here's the deal on the Captain's Table. We were starving hadn't eaten since lunch the previous day and it was around 12:30. I told my wife that I was going to the first restaurant I see.....which happened to be The Captain's Table.....which happened to be A GREAT FIND! This is a family owned restaurant. Our waiter, Steve, happens to be the son of the owners. He cooks, does dishes, buses tables and serves as a charismatic waiter. His dedication to his trade shines through. Now, they serve breakfast all day. If you're from Vermont, like me, 24 hour/day breakfast is a big sell. I had the 2-meat breakfast burrito which might very well have been THE best burrito I've ever had. PLUS, the prices were reasonable (for Chatham, that is). Woefully under filled lobster roll (hot/butter). No discernible claw vs knuckle vs tail meat at all. Just some chopped up lobster in a buttered and grilled frankfurter roll. Very cute restaurant on Main Street, right in the middle of several nice boutiques. There is street parking, but my family and I parked in a public free parking lot next to a public park and enjoyed the short walk over to the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is quiet. Everyone was talking quietly to not disturb anyone else. Several tables, no booths, one small bar top. The food was delicious- we had the fish and chips (chips could've been better but oh well), swordfish (amazing!), crab cake sandwich, and tuna salad wrap. We also had clam chowder and Caesar salads. The clam chowder was a little bland but nothing a sprinkle of salt could fix. Service was attentive and kind. They do charge a small 4% credit card fee. Cape code chips are average for the area with kettle cooked hardness. 3.4/5 Butter milk chicken sandwich and cheese burger 3/5 Lobster bisque was better than the clam chowder. So you get a hankering for New England clam chowdah.....we'll jump in the car and head up to the Cape. Only a 6 hour round trip from CT. Lol We arrived in Chatham a little before 11 am. Spent some time hitting the shops and then headed to the Captain's Table. It was our first time here as we usually hit the Squire when in Chatham. I had lunch here last week. I had the lobster roll, which on Cape Cod, one would expect to be excellent. And if it had been excellent, I would have happily paid the $28 for it. Unfortunately, there was nothing about the actual lobster salad to write home about. The best part of the meal was the roll - I mean the actual bread, which was grilled and buttery and delicious. The sandwich comes with chips, by which I expected homemade kettle chips. Instead it was the $0.50 vending machine size of Cape Cod kettle chips. As for the service, it was not of the caliber one would expect from a restaurant with the stones to charge $28 for a very mediocre sandwich. The waiter never came by to ask how the meal was or offer to freshen my drink. It took asking 3 people for my check before my waiter finally came by and asked if I wanted the check. My friend and I stopped here on a whim on our day trip to Chatham. We were drawn in by the promise of delicious bloody Marys, and then stayed for the incredible food. The Bloody Mary was perfectly spicy and savory. Also note that you can order mimosas, wine or beer starting at 8 Monday- Saturday. I ended up ordering the blueberry French toast casserole special, which featured a maple blueberry syrup and chunks of fluffy and sweet cream cheese. It was one of the most delicious breakfast items I have ever ordered. My friend went with the lobster omelet, which was chock full of chunks of lobster. I am gluten free and they had great options for me. I had a breakfast sandwich wrap which was delicious. I can never find wraps when I am out so I was very excited to try it. The fruit bowl was so fresh. The wait staff was great. The food quality was great. The waitress even let me know there was a little flour in the corned beef hash so I didn't make a mistake and eat it. My husband is very picky about food and he loves his breakfast. Visited Captain's Table for breakfast one day and we ended up being the only group there for most of our meal (which was totally fine with us!) Super friendly service and a cute spot. We elected to sit inside but they have a nice patio as well. I would say food is your basic breakfast options but definitely try the breakfast wrap/burrito thing (I don't remember what it was actually called). Looked super simple but was so good! Much better than we expected! We went in for lunch on New Year's Eve, and it was packed! The staff did a tremendous job accommodating everyone as quickly as possible. Pleasantly surprised by this place in downtown Chatham. We got a table outside by the sidewalk on a nice sunny day. They even sold us a panini, despite the menu saying that paninis were only available until 3:00. (God only knows why they aren't available after 3:00. Does the panini maker leave?) The lobster panini had huge chunks of meat covered in cheese and onions falling out of it.With nicely toasted bread, it was decadent. I know it's not the traditional Cape lobster roll, but I think it is a worthy addition to the Cape's lobster repertoire and worth seeking out. I had a whole belly clam po boy because I wasn't going to have my fried oyster po boy at Mac's Seafood this year, and I was missing it. Dare I say, this was better. It had clams than could be held in the bun, and it was cheaper than the po boy at Mac's. And the french fries were on fleek. There are so many ways to screw up fries, but this place got it right. They were cut thick enough to be substantial, but not so thick that they were "potato-y," they were seasoned, and fried to a dark golden crisp so they were crunchy on the outside and light on the inside. My classmates and I rented a house down on the Cape to celebrate being done with our graduate program. While out and about exploring Chatham one afternoon, we stumbled across the Captain's Table for lunch. A small little spot, we surprised the staff with our party of 15 people but they were more than accommodating. They even let us do separate checks - with us giving them the heads up before we started ordering. Our waitress, Courtney, was phenomenal and took such good care of us. She was super attentive and made sure our meals were perfect. I ordered the citrus quinoa salad with chicken added. It was SO good - quinoa, lettuce, beets, goat cheese with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Yum! The rest of my classmates ordered a variety of dishes and they all really enjoyed their meals. Solid meal and drinks for lunch. We went light, getting a fried fish sandwich and crabcakes app as well as white wine and one of the two beers on tap. Service was good, food was punctual. Tartar sauce for fish and aioli for CC were too heavy on mayo. Crab cake was solid, even though it was probay just a prepared mix portioned, smashed and fried on the flat top. Cant blame someone when they figure out the way to do it well AND easy. Fish sandwich was enough fish for the bulkie roll but not be overwhelming. Nice ripe tomatoes and a couple sprigs of romaine were under a self administered tartar sauce top bun. Fish was probably under seasoned or ar least couldn't hold up against the tomato and romaine. Could have been the underwhelming tartar sauce, but probably should have S&Pd the greens. For us, we dont get to Chatham that much and it was nice to do something low key, reasonably priced and in downtown center. Three stars is what we gave but it's definitely a possible 4 star when we go again (which we will). It fits a nice niche. If ownership is reading this, kick up the aioli and get better consistency on the tartar (because I find it hard to believe anyplace on cape would serve what we got as their tartar). read more

We were visiting the town and came about this charming spot. Not super fancy but exactly what we were looking for. The server was so sweet and efficient. I had the gazpacho which was deliciously fresh and the breakfast tacos on corn tortilla. (Gluten free friendly). My husband had the fish sandwich and fries which were yummy too.
