We tried this place about 15-18 months ago, and it wasn't great. But it had newly opened so we wanted to give it another chance. We finally got back to it last night. We ate outside, it was a nice night, albeit windy. Our server Molly was efficient. The app took a little while to hit our table, and then the entrees arrived like a minute or two later, it was almost like the planned to have them arrive all together. A little annoying. The food was good: fresh, decent quality, no complaints on the treatment. It didn't wow me, but it was fine. The food is excellent, exceeded only by the service from Kyle. Great place for vegetarians and Glutoids (many gluten free dishes). The lobster sliders are the best I've ever had! They have a delicious poke bowl on the dinner menu (that you can order for lunch.) We've also enjoyed delicious burgers and Reuben sandwiches. And then, there's the ubiquitous French fries. They always range between a "5" and an "8." Not here. They are definitely a "10!" I can't explain it, but don't dare pull those fries away until they are completely gone! Overall, this is my favorite Hyannis Harbor restaurant, among many excellent choices. read more

We've been wanting to eat at The Break in Hyannis Harbor so I made a reservation for a high top on their upper deck. They just opened last year. Prior to that it was a few different restaurants, one I think was Yesterdays back in the 90's, which we used to frequent and were sad to see them close. Our table was nice, overlooking the street. It was a beautiful night to eat outside. Our server was excellent. We had a few drinks before ordering food and didn't feel rushed. Their draft beer was nice and cold and their mai tai was very good. The food coming out looked so good. Someone next to us got the fish tacos and they were loaded with fish. I got the fried whole clam basket and my husband got the friend scallop basket. My plate was overflowing with clams and they were very tasty. My husband's scallops were small and rubbery. I had 2 and they were ok. (He had friend scallops at a nearby restaurant a few weeks ago and they were large and juicy) When our server asked how everything was we told her we loved the clams but the scallops were not the best we've had. She apologized profusely. When she came back with the bill, she said she took the scallops off. We didn't expect that but were very pleased. They have a varied menu and not all fish. We'll definitely go back, especially during the off season since they're open all year round. Definitely worth the try if you haven't already. read more

Our main courses of salmon and swordfish were also delicious. Friendly and competent staff. First time here, was a beautiful night on the deck to start our family weekend vacation. Tuna poke bowl and baked haddock entrees caused upset stomachs lasting through the night/next day. We really wanted to like this restaurant given its location overlooking the harbor. It's bright and modern in appearance and cheerful in terms of vibe, but the food was disappointing. My wife had the seared scallops, and they were clearly overcooked, leaving a charred rubbery mess. I had the "Everything" Ahi Tuna steak whose gimmick was to sprinkle everything mix on top in lieu of any useful seasoning. The other gimmick was the use of spinach instead of seaweed, served as a soggy accompaniment best pushed aside. The tuna itself wasn't flavorful enough to overcome the other flaws in the dish. Our favorite part of the meal was the Quahog appetizers, which were decent. I don't remember what I had for a cocktail, but I do recall a reasonable wine list. Beyond that, I feel like it was an opportunity missed. read more

My first visit to The Break was a nice treat to go somewhere other than all the restaurants I've been to before. The ambiance had a cool vibe that was welcoming, relaxing yet modern all at the same time. The food was good, presented nicely and our server was completely professional. My bolognese needed a couple of grinds of black pepper and a shake of salt to bring to the flavor it should have had in the first place. I don't generally salt my food, in fact it's extremely rare that I do. That's the reason for the 4 stars. The restaurant manager was very cordial and invested on the happiness of the patrons. My only suggestion is that he dresses a bit better to be in alignment with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Unfortunately everything else was...not good. Rest of the cocktails were not good. Margarita was terrible. The fish in the fish and chips was rubbery. Pasta for scampi was over cooked and mushy and bland. Ravioli was tough and flavorless. Caesar salads were mostly bland. Steak tips in the salad were more than well done. Scallops were rubbery. Hate to leave a bad review but we were all really hungry and the food was just not great. Maybe it's new and they are still working things out. Best of luck. read more

We came here on a Friday night of a holiday weekend and had no problem getting a table. We were hoping to grab a seat outside but possibility of rain kept us inside. Live music was fun and we loved our food. Mussels, Cioppino (best meal ever on the cape according to my friend), baked haddock, all delicious. Swordfish was not a favorite but all in all a great experience. Happy that it's open year round and we'll definitely check back in to grab a table on their beautiful deck. read more

Came here with a group of friends for a dinner out and loved the atmosphere, both upscale and casual perfect for coming for a date, with family, with friends, or even alone! Seems like a great spot for regulars. My favorite drink on the menu was the surf bunny - first time i've ever had an elderflower cosmo! Might come back just for that. New place for us this summer. Right next to our hotel on an evening we were feeling lazy. Walked over. Best decision of the week. Cool vibe. Modern but comfortable at the same time. Great drink menu, attentive service. Wide variety of options to satisfy everyone in the group. I wish I found it sooner bc I would've been there more even if to stop at the bar for a drink. Small but personal and all the dishes pop with flavor. Such a cool place to go out w friends. It's small enough that you can enjoy conversation w/out screaming across the table yet the vibe-- can't put my finger on it works. Food prepared perfectly. Dessert- yeah you need the brownie sundae even if you're full.- and their version of an Irish coffee.... Amazing! Can't wait to go back next summer read more

We were looking for a change of pace. The appearance is clean and modern. The star of the meal was the mussels and scampi. The broth was perfect and the only drawback was that we wanted more bread to soak up the broth. Mussels were juicy and cooked to perfection. My dining partner had the broiled haddock, which looked to be perfectly cooked. The accompanying veggies were bright and had a nice crunch to them. The jazmine rice was not seasoned, and almost seemed out of place under the white fish. I had beef skewers with risotto and asparagus. Two skewers made for a very generous portion. However, the beef was not seasoned at all. There was no salt, pepper, or marinade on either the beef or the veggies on the skewer. The meat was medium rare (as requested) but still a little tough to navigate without a steak knife whiich I had to chase down from my server. Because the beef pieces were so large, the tiny pieces of pepper and onion in between were never exposed to the grilll, leaving them raw (and also unseasoned). The risotto was excellent. Our server was kind but seemed to need more training. We asked for tea after dinner and we had to chase her down to get a spoon. I dared to ask for sugar for my tea and she brought me one packet rather than the typical assortment of sweetners. We asked for a dessert menu but it never was provided, even though the party at the next table got one and ordered. I feel like the restaurant missed a chance for an add-on. The manager explaned that this restaurant is relatively new. so I will return in the future, if anything, just to see if there is an improvement in some of these areas. read more

Wow, what a sham! Beautiful environment, but the staff is clearly overwhelmed. We showed up as a party of 8 and the waiter handed us one menu -- when we asked why, he said it was because "everyone showed up at once." No kidding -- it's breakfast time at a breakfast place. By the time we passed around our single shared menu and placed both our food and drink orders, nothing had come out for over 30 minutes. We asked the waitress if she could check on the kitchen, and she flat-out said, "I can't do that." Excuse me? We ended up having to leave after wasting an hour and a half starving with my kids. All I can say is our server/bartender Daniel was excellent. He went above and beyond for our first experience. The food service industry should have more like him to have you wanting to come back as you're walking out the door. I had the fried calamari for an app, tuna poke bowl and a beer. My wife ordered off the regular menu and had a Rueben and a Tito's cosmo. Not one complaint about our meals. Except my calamari app was a little oily for my liking. This is where Daniel stepped in and insisted on my complete honesty of how my calamari was. I told him and he rectified the situation. Tucked away upstairs, this restaurant has a bit of a hidden entrance -- so don't be surprised if you second-guess where to go. When you first head upstairs, the glass doors and what looks like a dining table behind them actually turn out to be the host stand -- it's an unconventional setup that could use clearer signage. The bar itself is cool, though the bartenders that evening seemed a bit reserved and leas than enthusiastic. One drink I ordered was meant to feature elderflower, but what arrived tasted more like a run of the mill Cosmopolitan, not quite what I expected. We requested a low-top table due to a disability, and although there were some open tables, we were told it couldn't be accommodated. That part was a little disheartening. That said, our server truly turned the experience around. Warm, attentive, and professional -- they were an absolute gem and made us feel genuinely cared for. Appetizers were a bit hit-or-miss. The buffalo cauliflower, while tasty in flavor, came in a surprisingly small sad portion with three sauces (buffalo, blue cheese, and a sweet mustard-style dip), I dont recommend it. The calamari was average, and fairly basic. For mains, the lobster sliders were a favorite at our table, and the fries were great -- hot, crisp, and well-seasoned. The scallops were less of a standout, small bay scallops that didn't quite shine. Another friend had a beef and veggie bowl that didn't look particularly exciting, though I didn't try it myself. Desserts wrapped things up on an okay note -- nothing too memorable, but sweet enough to finish the evening. All in all, the restaurant has potential-- the design is cool, and there's clearly heart in the service. While there were a few misses on the food and flexibility front, with a few tweaks, I could easily see it becoming a go-to spot. read more

I Enjoy watching the ferries come into dock from the upstairs patio... excellent ambiance with clean coastal cuisine. Many gluten free and vegetarian options ( cauliflower crust flatbreads, black bean burgers, delicious teriyaki tofu bowls, etc) as well as classic cape fare with an abundance of flavor ( arguably best chowder on Cape Cod, epic grilled salmon, fish tacos, all were delicious!) and a menu of sliders worth travelling far for ( shaved steak with caramelized onions, lobster or chicken etc). We had dinner last night after a 2 month hiatus in Florida; previously they had the pre prixe menu, at $25 in January and everything was great, apps and food. Last night was back to the "normal" menu. We expected the food to be as good as January and we were very happy to hurry back to one of new favorites in our hometown. We sat at the bar and the bartender, Stephanie was awesome. The food however was not so. We ordered the cauliflower app and was probably half of what was served in January. I ordered the steak frites at $38 and asked for medium rare. It came medium well, was very grisly and tough to chew. It sucked. It was severed with an oversized portion fries and a tablespoon of spinach as a side. My wife had eggplant parm. She said it was tasty but was about the size a Lean Cuisine dinner. The drinks were great. Good pours and again the service was excellent. The Break is no longer on our favorites list. read more
