If I could give this place NO STARS, that's what it would get. The atmosphere was fun and the young lady at the cash was exceptionally nice and that was the only nice thing about the place. The food is very poor and served on paper plates with plastic cutlery and yet they charge the same as other places. You can BYOB so I guess that's why they charge what they do for mediocre food. Food was excellent. Environment was not my cup of tea. My mom and dad went and hated it. My bf and I decided to give it a shot, we didn't like it either. Here's why. When u get there you get in line outside, with all these people who brought coolers of booze. You are given a menu and u have to pick while u wait 20-45 min average wait. Then u get inside, order at the front and pay, then they seat u and bring the food. The food was good but the experience wasn't so enjoyable. Also, the weird ordering arrangement wasn't very conducive to tipping, we forgot to tip altogether which I have NEVER done. And I hated that the bathrooms were singles, and instead of men's & women's, they were labeled either and or. I had to pee but was afraid to walk in on a dude or something. I'm glad we tried it once but im sure we wont go back again. read more

Hugely overrated. I saw the 4stars on yelp and stopped in for dinner. We got scallops plate and fish and chips. The fish and chips fish was super greasy and they put it on top of the french fries which made the french fries soft and soggy. The scallops were OK, but came with a baked potato that seemed like it was baked a couple days ago. The potato was super dry. The plates are paper and it feels like you're eating at a picnic, but the prices are that of a restaurant, $50 for two meals and no drinks. I'm shocked that Moby Dick's only has 4 stars--this is easily some of the best seafood on the cape. There's a great range here--you can get fish and chips a blooming onion (a deep fried onion cut in such a way that it " blooms") or broiled fish with sides of steamed broccoli and corn. It's good to see that Moby Dick's still managed to hire an all foreign staff, despite the visa restrictions put in place by the federal government. When I went, the place was staffed entirely by English girls, and for that reason alone Moby Dick's earns a few stars. Their nametags all state their home country, almost as if it's an apology. "We're sorry it's hard to understand Holly's accent. She's from England. You'll understand." The chowder is meh. But the lobster roll is good. It's all meat, and either very little or no mayonaise. But the soda had too much ice. Also, they fill it for you, so no free refills. And the fact that they have an entirely separate building just for the gift shop is completely chintzy. I think you can do better, Moby Dicks. read more

These guys do it right. This is probably the best restaurant between truro and orleans (which isn't saying much). But it's the best of the family oriented places. We got lobster rolls. The fresh lobster was piled HIGH on a toasted bun, and with a cup of melted butter, perfect for dipping the lobster chunks or pouring it right over it all. The french fries were crunchy, which is how all french fries should be. The irish students, I mean staff, were all really nice and helpful. The food was fresh and quality ingredients were used. The only downside, which is a big one, is parking. This place gets awfully crowded, to the point where you can't find a parking spot. But if you go before 5:30pm or after 8pm, you should do all right. read more

Very good. A line but they give you menus and even on a rainy day you are standing under cover. You are ready to order when you hit the head of the line (moves pretty quickly) and the food comes out promptly. You can sit totally indoors or under a roof. Good food. If you are tired of fries with your lobster or clams, ask for a substitute. Along with the good cole slaw I had a black bean salad. You can bring in your own beer or wine. Old school, family run seafood restaurant. Food is terrific, service is even better. Owner Todd remembers you from one yearly visit to the next. They correct the rare mistake quickly, apologetically and overcompensate with freebies. However, they rarely make a mistake. The food is great, and despite the lines, it moves quickly. For a perfectly boiled lobster dinner on Cape Cod this IS the place. There is a very specific system in place, so don't be surprised if, 1 - you have to wait online for 15-30 min and 2 - get handed a menu outside. Additionally to cut down on costs, they use heavyweight paper and plastic plates cups and utensils (no dishwashing) so if you're expecting fine china, go elsewhere. My wedge salad was awesome and large enough at $5.99 to be a light meal, my crab cake sandwich was yummy ($12.99) with a lot of meat, the chicken Caesar was also quite large and my bf liked it and his seafood gumbo a lot. You order at the front and sit where you like, the servers/cashiers were friendly and we're from places like S. Africa and England on student visas I'm guessing. We'll go back, but maybe order a little less food. We could have shared pretty easily, and the fried meals ordered by the table next to us were large portions and looked delicious (even the broccoli;) read more

We have been here a few times over the years and I want to say it's special but I just can't come around to a full throated recommendation here. First off, it's on the side of the road on the main road to Provincetown so it's not much of a scenic stop, but it does have the look of somewhere that should be special. It's BYOB which is unique to the area so that could be why there's always a line. The outdoor seating options put you essentially in the parking lot and unfortunately this year in particular they are overrun by mosquitoes making it hard to stay out in the evening. The food was generally good although I'd classify their chowder as too thin. Some of our food came out undercooked which was taken care of right away. The service of the staff is really good and they show care for their customers. If you go here I don't think you'll be upset but I don't know that you'll rave about it to your friends. read more

Moby Dick's is the best place I've been to on the Cape for seafood. Not only is the seafood fantastic, but they serve you will silverware and real plates! Not so at other seafood establishments on the Cape. In addition, Moby Dick's servers bring the food to your table and will get you additional menu items or replacement items such as butter or silverware upon request. I'd also like to add that Moby Dick's also provides diners with a real, metal lobster cracker, not a cheap plastic one. Other Cape Cod seafood eateries might have a less refined dining experience but charge the SAME PRICES! For example, my parents and I visited a highly-rated Yelp establishment with tons of positive reviews, but we all agreed it was the worst meal of our Cape visit. Everything was self-serve: you pick up food and bus your own tables, our food was served on paper plates and we had to fetch our plastic utensils--this after waiting in line for an hour and waiting another hour for our food. Moby Dick's has a staff person checking the line and the number of people in groups. Also, my $23 lobster roll was dinky--not much more lobster meat than the hot dog bun it was served on! AGAIN, the prices were identical to Moby Dick's. I could understand if the prices were lower,, but they were not. I"ll vote with my wallet. read more

The food is amazing, no arguing that. The grilled shrimp and scallops skewers were succulent and the seafood gumbo was hearty and delicious. With that being said there are some minor flaws. One, despite many of these reviews, the prices aren't cheap. For example my shrimp and scallop plate was $25 and a 1 1/2 pound lobster clambake was $34, not outrageous but certainly not cheap. Also, unless you arrive at about 5:30 or earlier, you are stuck on a line usually about 45 mins to an hour. This isn't MD's fault but is not pleasant. In addition, there is no air conditioning in the dining rooms and are usually quite hot. Overall, if you are on the cape, it is definitely worth a trip to Moby's if you want a great seafood meal. read more

I have visited Moby's at least a dozen times over multiple summers...dine-in and take out...lunches and dinners. Always excellent. Moby's is what Moby's is. No white tablecloths. No 10,000 bottle wine cellar. No pretenses. Really, really good beachy seafood served by a cheerful and attentive staff in a clean and active environment. Sometimes you have to wait outside for a table. Who cares?! That's part of the fun...plus, it ups the anticipation of the great food inside. Have the lobster roll or the boiled lobster dinner or any of the fried platters. I favor the whole belly clam roll and raw oysters. Take a moment to appreciate the way the staff works as a team. This is no accident. The owners are on site watching, coaching, and encouraging their workers to keep the customers happy and the food coming out promptly. Go to Moby's. Get the t-shirt. Sorry that it's taken me so long to write this review, but I must say that this is theeee absolute BEST of the BEST for some of the most authentically prepared freshest seafood grub ever! 1st of all...there's always a line, so just deal with it! (No line - - the place sucks...duhhh!!) Their Lobster Bisque is rich and flavorful, their oysters are delicate and outright delicious... I've tried it all on the menu...run scoring triples all the way! When the owner is present, he makes it a continual habit of always making sure everything is fine..."Of course it is! This place has a unique way of ordering and seating. Bring your own alcohol!! They don't have any! I had a Caesar salad with broiled scallops. The salad was below average but the scallops had a nice portion and flavor to them. My husband had broiled shrimp and scallops and was very pleased. We both had the lobster bisque and we were not impressed. The lobster was ground and we found very little pieces in the soup. We finished by splitting a piece of key lime pie which was EXCELLENT! Stopped by at this restaurant on our way back to Provincetown, MA. Having heard so much about lobster rolls, decided it was time to give it a try. The amount of lobster meat was quite plenty for anyone hungry, however it lacked much flavor. No sauces or dressing to compliment the meat. Had to resort to some melted butter and lemon juice to bring out the fresh lobster meat flavor. I recommend providing some dressing / sauce on the actual roll or on the side. My girlfriend ordered the salmon and was quite happy with the portion and flavor. read more

Moby Dick's is one of the classic family friendly seafood restaurants in the Truro/Wellfleet area. When on the Cape, I'm a regular customer. This year I ate there twice. The broiled scallop dinner was good - a little overcooked but still fresh and sweet. Plain broiled scallops depend on freshness since there is no sauce or seasonings to mask the fish. The lobster roll was delicious - generous with almost invisible mayo. I got a little butter on the side. Mmm Staff are friendly, coming from many countries. They are helpful - regular refills on drinks, extra napkins, and responsive to "more lemon, please". This year, as I left the Cape I stopped at MD for a lobster roll to go. I was the among the first customers. Staff was still setting up. Oh no, it was awful, $22 awful. The lobster meat had a bad smell obviously left from the day (week?) before. It was small, the size of the $11 one down the road. The meat was scraps - mushy. I threw it out. It's difficult to write a three star review based on one negative experience. I tried to call 2x to let a manager know but the number listed is a fax machine. Go to Moby Dicks but if you order food to go check it out before you leave the restaurant. read more

We never would have pulled into this place just because it looks like the standard, old touristy joint. But a friend suggested we try it. Glad we did! No frills, simply good food. The hubs had fried whole belly clams and they were done perfectly. Ever so lightly breaded. He even commented that the tartar sauce was a step above the usual ... had a slight "kick". I ordered the lobster bisque. Delish! But as is often the case, it was only lukewarm, not piping hot. I also had the lobster roll, which was a tad disappointing. The lobster itself was good and plentiful. The New England style roll was not up the the status of the lobster. I wish they would consider upping their game with a quality roll and toast it. Fries were good .... but again, not really hot. Nice, friendly service. This is a BYOB place, by the way. We will definitely return, but I believe I will skip the pricey lobster roll and try something else. read more

We had a great dinner experience at Moby Dick's. We have been coming to the Cape for years, but had never eaten here. This trip, we tried it. It was great. After reading reviews, we came prepared with our own booze and big appetites. It didn't disappoint.
