The Works: Bibimbop w/Spicy Pork
Marc K.

Friendly and helpful service. Clean and bright dining area. Jap Chae was a little on the mushy side, but everything including the Banchan was full of flavor and texture. Fried chicken and lotus roots were crunchy awesomeness. Bibimbop was fresh and tasty. Hot sauce was on the side which was perfect, but I did have to add a lot, which I don't mind because I could adjust to my taste. Definitely like the mixed purple rice too. Stopping by was a random event but a great occasion with friends.

Small restaurant that feels more like a food court style. Service was okay. Food was delicious . Got the bibimbap and it was one of the best ones I've had in a while. The restaurant can get pretty noisy from conversations from everyone in there.

spicy ramen with chicken

I tried the spicy ramen with chicken. The presentation was decent, my bowl came in hot and bubbly. Its tasty and fresh, but at that cost I expected a bit more depth and flavor. Chicken was shredded and not tender. I'd rather go for other dishes if I go back. We were there before alot of customers and had to wait a long time before they got to our order.

Was craving for Korean food and this was the closest spot! It's a decent Korean restaurant with lots of your traditional choices including tofu soup, fried chicken, seafood pancake and more. Everything came pretty quickly and was good. I think the fried chicken was only fried once vs some other places they double fry it so it's super flavorful and crispy. Overall, a good spot if you're looking for convenient Korean food

I'm glad we discovered this restaurant. The place is light and airy. They have outdoor dining as well. The food was excellent! Soup was part of the entree we ordered which I enjoyed. We had the soy garlic chicken wings and pork belly. The Korean Ginger Honey Iced Tea was refreshing. I look forward coming back to try the other dishes! Service was just right:)

BBQ chicken with banchan and hot ginger tea

My husband and I have been to most of the restaurants downtown in the past four years that we've lived here, and Mixed Grain is one of our favorites. It's so cozy. Their prices are more reasonable than a lot of nearby places. The hot ginger tea with the little man-shaped stirring spoon? I'm dead. It's cute and tasty. I just had the spicy BBQ chicken tonight, and it was my favorite thing I've had there. I will say the ramen didn't totally blow me away specifically, compared to places that specialize in ramen. Other than that, everything is top notch. Never had a problem with the service.

This is my second time at Mixed Grains and it's quickly becoming one of my fav go to spots when I'm in the area. The food is fresh, flavorful, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. I especially like how customizable the bowls are. There are plenty of healthy options and everything feels well balanced. The staff were friendly and the place is clean and welcoming. Service can get a little slow during peak hours, which is why I'm giving it a 4/5 stars but the food is worth the wait. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for something healthy, filling, and tasty in Walnut Creek. I'll definitely keep coming back! Side note: If you're a mom who's bringing a stroller, they will ask you to park it near the bathroom since the space is limited.

Had a great meal at Mixed Grain with a friend! I ordered the bibimbop with thinly sliced beef, and the flavors were really good. The fried egg was cooked well, and I liked the option to have purple rice aside from just the white rice. All the banchan were pretty standard, but my favorite was actually the kimchi cilantro. I'd never had it before, but I loved the freshness and spice, and I even took some home with my leftovers because it paired so well with the bibimbop. The workers were friendly, and the inside was very clean and had a nice modern ambiance

Kimchi Stew and Veggie Iron Works

This is by far the best Korean food I've had since visiting Korea-Mixed Grain has brought Korea to Walnut Creek! After ordering we had banchan (small side dishes) brought to our table- creating a beautiful palate to go along with the main courses. We ordered Kimchi Stew & Veggie Iron Works fried rice. These were both incredible dishes. Packed with flavor & so fresh. My only complaint is that I physically could not eat more! The service was impeccable, so polite & prompt! The restaurant itself is clean & modern, a new favorite spot & could not recommend more.

Bibimbap with extra tofu

Amazing food, healthy steamed options instead of frying (yay! Huge win!) amazing flavors, very quaint and cute. Quick service and easy to communicate diet restrictions

Any chance a gluten free gochujang can be made available? Please!!

Do they have a lunch menu?

What are the gluten free options on the menu?

you can ask for anything without Rice or Noodles... there are some dishes that you can't order without that... but Gluten free is possible.

Craving AYCE KBBQ and found Yaedam on Yelp nearby! Surprised to find it's also an AYCE sushi…read morespot??? How??? Too many good things bundled in one :3 We arrived on a Wednesday evening and experienced no wait, though I imagine weekends are more lively. Large parking lot attached to the side. The restaurant is spacious and cozy, decorated with a blend of modern and traditional decor. Lighthearted pop covers fill the room with an upbeat air. All staff caring for us were kind and accommodating. My partner and I both chose the B course ($39.95/ea). Great options & good quality meats! Even delicious options for pescatarians :P Some favorites: - PRIME BEEF MARINATED SHORT RIB (perfectly seasoned) - PREMIUM PORK BELLY (so juicy. IMO better than their flavored ones because less salty. Admittedly I broke my pork fast for KBBQ... OTL) - SPICY SQUID (yooooo unexpectedly fire) The meats are generously portioned; prepare yourself with a voracious appetite :P Already looking forward to the next visit~~~

They offer both AYCE sushi and AYCE KBBQ, so you can choose depending on what you're in the mood for. The Experience The birthday boy picked sushi for the night. Overall it was pretty mid. The salmon was decent, but most of the other items were just okay. Nothing really stood out. Final Thoughts Would I come back? Maybe, but probably only if someone else wanted to.

Met up with family at this restaurant for a weekday lunch. I'm not well-versed on Korean cuisine,…read moreand there are only a few dishes I feel safe ordering with the short ribs being one of them. Our group ordered the 2 meat/2 soup special for 4 persons and it was definitely enough food for our group. The short ribs were excellent and I even enjoyed the soups (not sure what they're called, but one was pork and one was beef). Excellent service throughout and the place was very busy. Parking could be a challenge depending on the time of day as it's shared with other merchants.

Wow, I am never coming back. Management may see this and not care because I'm one person out of…read moremany and they make enough money. But sheesh I felt racism aura all around. Something against Filipinos? Or me? Did I do something wrong? I ordered bibimbap and so did my dad. My sister got tofu soup. My mom was sharing soup with her. It was obnoxiously loud because there was a birthday being celebrated at the table in the middle (not the staff's fault but maybe this got on the staff's nerves?) I asked for 1 refill of the side dishes. 1. Waitress gives us a refill. So that's the initial set of side dishes and 1 refill. As my dad goes up to the back portion of the restaurant to pay, I ask for another refill of side dishes. Lady with shorter hair says, "no." with a stern look of disgust. I go, "uhh..okay." Really weird, that's never happened before, ever. My sister and mom left a few minutes prior and got their tofu soup to go because of how loud it was--we weren't done with our meal they just wanted to get out of there. If the soup was still on the table and all 4 of us were sitting down, would she still have said no? We then left a $5 tip (I wanted to give $0 actually after what just happened). As I left the table and went out the door, I saw the waitress looking at our table from the back where you pay, she was checking to see if we even left a tip (because my dad didn't put a tip on the bill as we like to leave cash tips). Just all around bad vibes. I very rarely give 1 star reviews. Actually the food here is unfortunately phenomenal, so if you've never had a bad experience here go ahead and continue eating here it's great. Food portions are terribly small for the price you pay. It's a flat out rip off for the cost. Maybe if their service was good it would justify the cost, but their service as described above, despicable. I know my thoughts are all over the place but I'm a bit rattled still at what just happened. I finished eating there 7:48pm, it's 8:03pm as I'm typing this on my phone in the car while the memory is fresh. That's how irked I am. They did not refill our water or ask to refill our water until I asked, and I only asked once. I saw they asked other tables if they wanted refills of water. That, plus the side dish refill and the short haired lady who's probably the owner saying no? I never want to come back. I felt disrespected, unappreciated, and felt racially profiled like because I'm Filipino she didn't like our kind there or something. The vibes were really off. I'm never coming back here voluntarily. At least that's how I feel right now. My experience, 0/5. The food, unfortunately 4/5, Score: 1 star because that's the lowest I can give it. Expect to see this review on here, Google, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok. To the owner / waitress who didn't give me refills on the side dishes, if you're reading this: didn't think I'd go this far to share my experience did you? The angry side of me hopes you lose business. The more peaceful side of me hopes you read this, think about what you did and if it was right, and think about your customer service and making people that come to your establishment and paying you to eat your food, happy. Because the look you gave when you said, "no." When I asked for the refill of side dishes, you might as well have spit on my face. That's how it felt. If you feel no remorse over this incident, then I wish poorly on your business, but I doubt this review will affect your profits. Good bye. Never again.

But they had me sign an agreement to basically promise that I pay 18% which I obliged. However, they did not earn that 18%. Everyone's attitudes were very crappy especially when they had to move our entire party because THEIR grill wouldn't fire up and would keep cutting out on us. It was as if WE were an inconvenience to them. Respect is earned and not given and I feel the same about tips. Their workers clearly showed themselves as if they didn't want to be there. I was looking at everyone's name tag and Aniyah was one who stood out most for having a really bad attitude and talking under her breath as i was trying to get our bill situated After having to move 3 times, I had advocated that our fountain drinks be removed from the bill because that was the least they could do for the crappy experience. Making that happen felt like pulling teeth. I'd advise avoiding the back corner grill overall. I won't be coming here anymore. As an ex-service worker, customer service is #1 and this place aint it. God Bless.
