Ordered: Pop Shrimp, Shishito Peppers, $100 chef choice (16 nigiri pieces, 32 sashimi pieces, and 2 rolls. Rock shrimp was great Shishito peppers were good but preferred with salt on the side The two rolls were perfect. We got a mango shrimp tempura one and another roll that had salmon tuna and avocado in it. Sashimi pieces and nigiri pieces were mediocre. The fish was not super fresh but it was clean. The octopus was fresh and did not chew like rubber. The menu prices are all very cheaply priced. Came here on Wednesday night w the family. The menu is pretty extensive and inclusive even if you don't eat sushi (like my kids). Also, it's decorated beautifully! One of the nicer places in the area IMO. The hubs and I shared sushi for two. It was so delicious and fresh and more than enough food for sure! Staff was very nice and friendly too! *WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. FOOD POISONING* I never feel the need to write a review but my experience earlier tonight has me livid. The quality of the fish and customer service was beyond me. My mother-in-law started to throw up profusely after arriving home from her meal here. (FYI, she was the only one that ate the sashimi platter as my father-in-law felt the quality was bad to begin with and couldn't eat much.) When we called the restaurant on her behalf, there was NO apology but more of an accusation. The "manager" never once apologized or took responsibility for the experience here and consistently questioned us by asking "how do you know it was the food from Mito? What did she eat earlier in the day?" I was so flabbergasted I asked her to think of her own mother and how she would feel if a "manager" was questioning her in this manner. She proceeded to respond that she would say the company is not responsible until there is evidence presented (i.e. doctors note that SPECIFICALLY says food poisoning from sashimi). She then said maybe it was the cake that we brought - I forgot to mention, this dinner was for her birthday. The cake that we ate at the end was eaten by EVERYONE (all 10 of us) and no one else got sick. WOW. Still after twenty minutes on the phone, no apology for even the poor dining experience and NO compensation or offer to refund the meal until there was proof that the food poisoning was from their restaurant. I have never had such a poor dining experience and would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. We will get the doctor's note. We will get a refund. We've ordered from here several times and have dined in a few times as well. The food has never disappointed. The sushi pizza is a great appetizer. I went to this place for a light dinner,I ordered a Pork bun, Shrimp tempura roll, Salmon tempura roll and the Rapunzel hair roll. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Change is not good!! I came here for the first time in November 2021 and I really enjoyed the Japanese food (which is something you would expect at a Japanese restaurant). Back then they offered traditional teriyaki, hibachi, katsu, tempura dishes (all served with rice) and it was very good. I came back just this past weekend because friends wanted to have Japanese for dinner and I suggested Mito. But what a big disappointment this time around!! The menu changed and it looked like it was from Outback or a French restaurant, and there wasn't any true traditional Japanese dish (except for maybe sushi and sashimi). My friend was looking for hibachi on the menu (she had it at the Mito in Forest Hills just a few weeks ago) but there was none on the Bayside menu. I asked our server about that, and why there isn't any katsu dish like I had back in November. She said that there is a new Korean chef who thinks the traditional Japanese dishes are too ordinary and boring and wanted to put different things on the menu. (I like ordinary and boring Japanese food and I expect real Japanese food at a Japanese restaurant). I ordered the chicken teriyaki (thinking it would be the most traditional Japanese dish on the menu), but it was just two pieces of grilled chicken with the teriyaki sauce on the side and served with a few pieces of vegetables and mashed potato (rice was not even offered as an option - just mashed potatoes). The dish looked like it was from Outback. (I'll go around the corner to Outback if I want an American dish and at a much cheaper price!) The dessert menu looked like it was from a French restaurant (creme brulee, macaroons, lava cake). Only Japanese dessert was mochi which was very disappointing. Food tastes bland and portions are much smaller than it was before. My friend's sushi rolls looked like it was a kids portion. Also, prices are high for the amount of food you get. If there are 4 Mito restaurants in NY that are related to each other, why does each have different menus? Shouldn't one expect the same offerings as the other Mito restaurant they went to before? If one has hibachi dishes, shouldn't the others have it too? The changes at Mito in Bayside are not good and very disappointing. I noticed how much quieter it is for a Saturday night. When I came in November, it was on a Saturday night and it was packed (waited about 15 minutes before being seated). But this past Saturday night, we walked right in and sat down immediately. It never got busy when we were there with plenty of empty tables when we left at 8pm. At this rate, Mito may not last long in Bay Terrace. I know "fusion" is the trend but I'm old-fashioned and I like traditional. Mito should think about keeping certain traditional dishes on the menu for us nonconformist. I personally won't be returning to Mito again and I'll go the smaller authentic family-owned Japanese restaurants nearby on Francis Lewis Blvd where good traditional Japanese food are served. Save your money and support other long-time Japanese establishments around Bayside & Whitestone for good Japanese cuisine. read more

WORST WORST SERVICE EVER. Do NOT go there if you do not want to make your night terrible. This is a highly overrated restaurant. I will look up a business's reviews while standing or parked right outside the building. I had a bad feeling at that time, but my friends were waiting for me, so I went in. Sure enough, as I expected, the service is really terrible here. I wanted to say that the service was extremely appalling. The waitress Anna rudely rushed us while we were ordering. And after we ask for something she's impatient. I feel like she's refused to serve us, because this lady was so condescending and had a horrible tone towards us. As I patiently waited for her to come to our table, she came over and proceeded to rudely ask, "what you want", 0/10 for service! Anyways, the food and ambiance is great but be mentally prepared for the poor and super rude service. This restaurant looks upscale and their prices are also considerably high, comparable to Manhattan prices. However, their food is mediocre at best. Ordered quite a bit of items for my visit, my wife and I with our 11 yr old. Bill came out to over $230 before tip. A steak entree, about 5 sushi rolls, sashimi, 2 appetizers, and a seltzer. What's the best way to say this...it was a chinese restaurant trying to pretend to be upscale. I'm Chinese, so it's not racial in any way. They had takeout chopsticks laid out with their gold fork and knife. The calamari came first, I'd say it was about 10 pieces of ring-shaped "fresh" out of a bag appetizer with Thai dipping sauce on the side. Second came the lobster & artichoke dip with baguettes. The dip was heavy with butter, and cold in the middle, while the outer areas was hot (microwave?). There were about 5 pieces of baguettes, even slathering a good amount of dip on each, there was still half of the dip left. We asked the water if we could have more baguettes or bread for the dip, and he tells us sure, but there would be a charge of $1. This was where I lost it. There was no bread served at the table (fine, not that type of restaurant), but to charge $1 for extra baguettes when there wasn't enough given in the first place for the amount of dip given?? I guess they expect people to eat the dip straight up. On top of that, we ordered $200+ in food, and they had the galls to charge $1 for baguettes??? I asked to speak with the manager, and he says he'll ask the head chef and get back to me. What type of manager is this??? Obviously, the rest of my night was tarnished. The waiter would come back a few times and ask if there was anything else, and the normal "how is everything", told him, yea, I'd like some free bread, if I ask for anything, I'd probably get charged for it. Honestly, you're better off eating at a sushi buffet or something. This restaurant is all about the aesthetic and fails to pay attention to what truly matters: the food and the service. Food: Overpriced and bad portions. At its finest, mediocre Service: My servers were very unprofessional. They stood in the corner and failed to attend to me several times. Wait time: Took about 30 minutes for my food to come out. I got a wagyu beef burger that was VERY undercooked. I asked for it to be recooked, which took another 20 minutes. It came back charred and extremely well done. Overall, I would not recommend this place at all. Please use your money to eat somewhere else. I would not be surprised to find Mito gone from Bay Terrace by next summer. read more

The restaurant is very spacious and I love that they have an outdoor area. However, I don't think I'll be returning. Menu was pretty limited when I went during dinner time. The prices are also more than your average sushi restaurants, but the pieces are not as good as my local sushi restaurant. My husband got the chef's sushi and we were looking forward to it. Turned out to be just 4 of your most basic fishes (salmon, tuna, fluke, and I don't even know what the last fish is). Not only was it super basic, but the pieces were tiny and we found a piece of eyelash or eyebrow hair. First the waiter says he doesn't see it then he kept explaining that maybe it got blown into it since their chefs wear hats and gloves. As a customer I don't care how it got there, just simply apologize and resolve the issue. The waiter made us feel like we planted there ourselves. The maki rolls were also tiny. They have an extensive cocktail menu, but very weak. I started drinking after fasting since the morning and I didn't feel buzzed at all. I Went to dinner with my sister. Super beautiful ambiance and the decor was awesome. So clean and they do require masks upon entry if vaccinated still incase anyone is wondering. Very very clean as well. Back to the food. The food was great and we are definitely going back. Our first try we had the rock shrimp tempura, the salmon entree, Kani Salad and Hot mama roll to share. We were full and it was all very good. For sushi I will definitely come back and hope it does well in our neighborhood. I came here when the restaurant first opened and recently went back again. I feel like the quality of the food has gone down. For example the rock shrimp used to be my favorite. I placed an order to be delivered to my job through door dash from the bayside location. Mito was recommended to me from a friend who has been to other locations. I ordered a spring roll appetizer and a spicy tuna roll. The food packaging was excellent and both items came as ordered. The spring roll came with 3 vegetable rolls and a dipping sauce, tasty and simple. My spicy tuna roll was so good!!! Fresh ingredients. I was also pleasantly surprised that they followed my additional requests in the note section to add avocado and crunchy on top of the roll - which they did without adding additional cost/fees (I was surprised about that). The decor is very pretty, but small portions , lot of money , and no liquor yet. Food is nothing special at all . Can't imagine what bill will be for two people once they have a liquor license. This place is a nightmare. Sat at the bar to have dinner. Each time I asked for a drink at the bar I was told we don't have that. Out of all 9 sake's on the menu they were out of 6... all 3 tv's buffered on the same picture for our whole meal. Each dish was not as described on the menu. We ordered chicken pad thai and there was 3 minced pieces of chicken in it.. I feel like the the chef has changed.. menu is different and food/service was mediocre at best. This a very nice restaurant great outdoor seating. Food is ok but not great depending on what you're ordering. There spicy salmon tartar is very good. The service is horrible though. There is no waiters outside during lunch hours. We were done eating our entrees waited over 30 minutes. No one cleared our table the whole time it was a mess. Do not attempt to host a weekend party there!!!! We requested info about hosting a party there and were told it was $3000 an HOUR to host a 3 hour party there on a weekend. Mito was exceptional the first time, then not so much the second time. The hamachi kama was cooked perfectly both times, but the second time they added rosemary which made quite a strange flavor to the otherwise delicious fish.
