The kani salad, unfortunately, wasn't my favorite. I usually expect yum-yum sauce to already be mixed into kani salad, but it wasn't, so I ended up adding some sauce I had at home, which definitely made it better for me. The service was good. The young lady who helped me was very nice and pleasant. The restaurant itself was very clean. It's a small space with a long, narrow kind of layout, but it still works for what it is. I'd come back for the salmon fried rice, and I'd probably try a few other things on the menu.

Usually with AYCE, there's at least one or two dishes that make you think, "Yep, I'm going back for this." Here, nothing really stood out as delicious. The bulgogi and kalbi were also noticeably on the sweeter side. The Korean-style wings had soggy skin. Then came the raw oyster. It did not taste fresh at all. I took half a bite, swallowed some, and immediately knew something was wrong. I had to spit out the rest. The unfreshness hit me faster than a New Yorker rushing for the subway. I spent the next hour praying I wouldn't get KO'd in the bathroom. Unfortunately, prayer was not answered. We came for Restaurant Week, and they had a pretty extensive menu for $25 per person, which is a great deal. Unfortunately, while most of the food was well cooked, I felt like many of the issues came down to questionable decisions made by the kitchen rather than the ingredients or execution itself. The most obvious example was the chocolate lava cake. It was clearly overcooked, so instead of making a new one, they flipped it upside down and served it that way. I'm guessing they thought no one would notice, but it was pretty obvious. Why not just remake it? The ribs were another questionable decision. The menu listed a "half rack," but when it came out, there were only two ribs. We asked our server about it, and he checked with the kitchen, who explained that their full rack is normally four pieces. If I ordered a full rack from the regular dinner menu and four ribs showed up, I'd be pretty upset. My sister decided not to keep the "half rack" and opted for the grilled octopus instead after seeing it come out looking so good. Unfortunately, since it was added later, it seemed like the kitchen rushed it out, and the octopus didn't have much of a char. The grilled black sea bass was actually one of the better dishes. It was perfectly cooked with beautifully crispy skin. The only disappointment was the sauce. The tomato tartare sauce served with the black sea bass tasted almost exactly like the romesco sauce that came with the grilled octopus. With such an extensive menu, I found it odd that the two sauces tasted so similar. It made the dishes feel a little repetitive. My sister's Scottish salmon was also pretty good. The cauliflower sauce arrived cold, and when we asked about it, our server told us it was supposed to be served at room temperature. It clearly wasn't, but the sauce was delicious, so we let it go. The bigger issue was that the kitchen poured it directly over the crispy salmon skin, turning what should have been a nice crispy skin into something soggy. Again, a questionable decision that took away from an otherwise good dish. I ordered the wild mushroom tagliatelle, and honestly, I don't know what came over me ordering pasta at a Japanese restaurant. The menu says the pasta is homemade, so I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but to me, it didn't taste like fresh homemade pasta. That said, I should have asked about it before ordering, so that part is on me. The bigger issue was that the dish itself was just OK. Nothing particularly memorable, and the portion was surprisingly small considering it was one of the cheaper lunch options. I finished with the crème brûlée, which was perfectly fine. It's hard to go too wrong with crème brûlée, but then they added a little whipped cream and one frozen blueberry on top. I'm still confused by the blueberry. If you don't have fresh blueberries, just leave it off. Yet another unnecessary kitchen decision. Overall, the meal wasn't bad, and there were definitely some good dishes. The service was pretty good, the Restaurant Week price is a great value, and the space is beautiful. My biggest issue was that so many of the little things seemed to come down to questionable decisions made by the kitchen. Overcooking the lava cake and flipping it over instead of remaking it, putting sauce over crispy salmon skin, rushing the octopus, using sauces that tasted nearly identical on different dishes, and adding a frozen blueberry to the crème brûlée all felt unnecessary. None of these things individually would ruin a meal, but when you start adding them up, they become noticeable.
