Menu - A printed sushi menu from Mickey’s Place in Queens, NY, displaying various sushi and sashimi options with prices, including crab, shrimp, tuna, and salmon. The menu also lists special rolls such as avocado bomb, Kanda house roll, and Christmas roll, with descriptions and prices. The menu is printed on white paper with black text and is placed on a wooden surface. It includes a section for maki sushi and hand rolls, with prices ranging from $6.95 to $11.95.

Disappointing Experience at Mickey's Place We went to Mickey's Place when we were craving sushi for dinner. We'd passed by this restaurant many times before and always found it closed. From the outside, the windows looked dirty, and the signs on the window were faded and barely readable. When we finally noticed a sign on the door behind the gate saying they're open from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, we decided to give it a try since it's in our neighborhood. Inside, the interior was casual and plain; no tablecloths, and the menu was just an 8x10 sheet of paper inside a plastic protector. We ordered the sashimi and sushi combo ($39.95). The waitress mentioned it would be the chef's choice of sashimi. The presentation was average. It included: 2 pieces of yellowtail, 3 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of white fish, 2 tuna sushi, 1 white fish sushi, and 1 yellowtail sushi. What really disappointed me was that an imitation crab stick, a cooked shrimp, and a piece of egg were counted as sashimi. For the price, I expected better quality and authenticity, though the portion size was just fair. There was also some inconsistency with communication. One waitress mentioned the green tea was $2 per cup, so I only ordered one. Later, another waitress told us it was actually complimentary -- a bit confusing. The waitress recommended the Futomaki, saying it was "the best in town." It was slightly larger than usual, filled with avocado, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), cucumber, fish roe, and imitation crab stick but missing the usual kanpyo (gourd strip). She suggested we order half a roll for half the price ($21.95 full price), which was considerate, but still felt pricey for just four pieces. We also ordered a Dragon Roll (only five pieces) and a Salmon Avocado Roll, which oddly wasn't listed on the menu even though that's a standard item at most Japanese restaurants. Our bill came to $101 with tax, handwritten on a guest check pad, with some items scribbled on a scrap piece of paper. For a restaurant charging that much, the lack of professionalism really stood out. Overall, while the staff were polite, I didn't feel I received good value for the price. The food quality, presentation, and overall experience didn't meet expectations. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.

Going out of my way for memorable Japanese cuisine might be a new favorite pastime of mine. Everything was prepared to perfection down to the desserts. We ordered a round of 5 rolls and house salad, Kani salad, shrimp tempura, hamachi collar and spring rolls to share. The hamachi collar was tender and fatty. Expertly cooked and a rare treat to have such an authentic preparation. Some folks in our group somehow had room for more so we doubled down on two more rolls while we decided if we wanted dessert. After some tea, we found out our waitress had made the puff pastry on the menu and had to try it. We ordered the tiramisu and the puff. The tiramisu, which I'm sad I had to share, was superb. The puff pastry, was delicious - the texture of the puff and the custard filling were so great and clearly made with a lot of love. As someone who usually is too full for dessert, I'm so glad I got to try them both.

Mickey's is finally back after shuttering it's long standing spot on Bell Blvd. a few years ago. While a bit more out of the way than the old digs, it's still worth a trip here if you're in the area. The food is just as good as it used to be although the menu is far smaller than the old place. The classics are still here though - avocado bomb was as good as ever and their sushi and sashimi were fresh and tasty. Decor is updated but still in the vein of the old restaurant. Service was good when we went but I can see them getting a bit overwhelmed if it gets busy. Prices are reasonable. My only gripe is parking can be tough since there's a lot of eateries in the area. Other than that though, it's great to have them back.

I had a very pleasant experience at Mickey's Place. From the start, I received warm and friendly service over the phone when making my reservation, which continued into the in-person dining experience. The staff are all cheerful and friendly, and I saw them chatting with many of the patrons in a friendly way. Even the sushi chefs will acknowledge and thank patrons as they are about to leave. The food we received was very vibrant and fresh with a beautiful sheen, cut to good portion sizes. I particularly enjoyed the spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail rolls, which had slices of fresh fish (not minced) with a spicy mayo that uses a sesame oil base, which stands out and enhances each bite. The orange that was served after the meal was so beautifully cut and arranged like a work of art! The overall environment was very clean and bright, and the walls displayed various colorful drawings and tapestries that were all on theme. I look forward to returning soon!

I remember when Mickey's Place was on Bell Blvd and my son was so excited when we found out that it reopened on Franny Lew. We arrived around 8:30pm and figured that would be a good time because they don't close till 9:30. When we walked in we were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't but was seated right away. The young lady told us that the restaurant was CASH ONLY which was fine with us. The restaurant was packed so we saw it as a good sign that the food was still just as good as it was on Bell Blvd. Mickey's Place isn't a big restaurant at all but it's homey looking with pretty light fixtures that my son was admiring. We sat down and was given ONE menu for 3 of us. We sat and waited for a waitress to take our order. Finally I had to flag someone down just to place our order .. sitting for 10 mins with just water and being hungry isn't a pretty sight. We ordered the tempura appetizer, avocado bomb, spicy tuna roll, salmon roll, 2 shrimp tempura rolls, spicy yellowtail roll and the double dragon roll. This is going to sound crazy but I had my son time the whole dinner experience cuz I wanted to see how fast or slow the service was going to be. In my mind if I didn't flag someone down to take our order, how long would they have waited to take our order? The first thing to come out was the tempura appetizer .. 37 mins AFTER we placed our order. The order was not a big portion which was aggravating. There were 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, one carrot and 2 pieces of broccoli that were stuck together. We agreed it was very tasty but my 15 year old son said, 'if you're hungry and have to wait almost 40 mins for food ... anything is delicious'. The next was the avocado bomb ... 57 minutes after we placed our order. My husband and son said we only got it so quickly was because 3 other orders all went out at the same time so the sushi chefs did all this orders at the same time. Not for nothing by waiting an hour for essentially 2 appetizers is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, both the tempura appetizer and the avocado bomb were very good but not worth the wait. When I looked at the time and realized our food wouldn't be coming out till next week, I started yelping restaurants in the neighborhood that were open that we could go to. The young waitress kept on looking over at our table but never did she once tell us that our food was coming or apologizing for the wait. All she did was fill our glasses of water up. Right as I was going to ask for the check .. 1 hour and 15 mins AFTER we initially ordered .. the majority of our food came out. Was the fish fresh ... yes it was. Was it good ... yes. Did it look like it was thrown together quickly ... absolutely. The rolls weren't closed completely and kept on coming apart when I dipped them in my soy sauce. The sushi rice was too warm for my liking. To eat a piece of room temperature fish with warm rice is not my cup of tea. Ten minutes after the majority of the dishes came out the last piece of our order came out, the double dragon roll. At that point I just wanted to go somewhere else to eat or just go home and make instant noodles. Frustrated and obviously disappointed with the service, I asked for the check. The funny part of this review is that it came .. 2 mins after I asked for it!!! You maybe asking yourself, 'why did you even stay that long and not just leave?' ... cuz I kept asking my family the same question. My husband reminded me that we have to give places a chance and this experience at Mickey's Place will be a funny story we can share with others.

Fried shrimp heads - so crunchy.

They're back! Mickey, Jennifer and team have moved from their Bell Blvd. location (rent & landlord drama I hear.) The quality of fish is impeccable - from the uni, the botan ebi (large shrimp; don't forget to ask to get the fried shrimp heads!!!), scallops and whatever else Mickey gets. It's clear that he takes pride and selects only the freshest fish. Rolls are great but not crazy combos like at other places - some are large and may cause sticker shock. The cooked items are also fantastic and if you call ahead, they may be more accommodating with off-menu items like soba noodles with shrimp tempura or yellowtail collar. Desserts are now a big hit with some cream puffs that rival Beard Papa's, banana pudding pie, plus let's not forget the tempura oreos. The new space is bright and pretty with blond woods. Service is super friendly. We've met so many other long time patrons who've followed them from their original Forest Hills location in the 90s. Only downsides are finding street parking and they're only open Fri-Sun 5-9pm.

avocado roll with spicy tuna - Sliced avocado arranged in a dome shape on a white plate, garnished with sesame seeds and fish roe on top. The dish is accompanied by a light-colored sauce around the base of the avocado, with some sesame seeds scattered on the sauce. The presentation is clean and minimalistic, highlighting the fresh ingredients.

you had me at....avocado roll great local queens sushi place, now on francis lewis. regulars were warmly greeted as they came in.

Finally, a good sushi place in the neighborhood!!! I am so glad this place opened up. The sushi in Whitestone and Bayside area frankly is not good. Mickey's is excellent could not more pleased! Everything is always super fresh. The avocado tuna bomb is amazing! I was happy with any roll. I pretty much ordered. Highly recommend checking this place out. I wish they were open during the weekdays.

A culinary presentation of an avocado, sliced and arranged on a white plate, topped with orange fish roe and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The avocado is surrounded by a light-colored creamy sauce with sesame seeds, and the dish is served on a modern, curved white plate. The setting appears to be in a restaurant environment.

My wife had heard good things and we had been craving sushi for a while, so we took a stroll over and gave it a shot. I went with my usual order -- a spider roll and spicy tuna -- and both were solid. I tried a third roll as well but honestly cannot remember what it was, and it did not leave much of an impression either way. The first two though were good enough to bring me back. The highlight of the visit was honestly our server. She was cool, spunky, and had a great sense of humor. We ended up laughing and joking around with her throughout the meal, which added a lot to the overall experience. Pleasant visit all around. We will be back.

In reality, they don't serve high quality sushi omakase or anything fancy. However, they do serve some of the best sushi rolls in the area. Always fresh and many crazy concoctions that will satisfy almost any taste buds. I have been coming here ever since moving into the neighborhood. The servers have always been kind and helpful. The restaurant is very small and really focus mostly on takeout or delivery. On the last visit, I really like the Mini Scallop Roll and Spicy Tuna Crunchy Roll. Munchy Roll was just okay. White Tuna Sashimi was too cold and icy, while the White Tuna Nigiri was somewhat better. However, truth be told, just come for the fun and interesting sushi rolls and forget about the nigiri or sashimi.

I went in right around opening time (noon) on the weekend - the outside is a bit unassuming and partially covered by awning but the inside was brightly lit and the lady at the register (I wish I asked for her name) was incredibly warm and welcoming. She was super enthusiastic about helping me identify which rolls would be safe for me to have. They also have a grab-and-go section where certain popular rolls and sides have already been prepped, but as long as you're willing to wait, the chefs are more than happy to make a fresh batch of a specific roll, even if there are already packed portions of the same exact roll in the grab-and-go section. I thought this was a really thoughtful approach to appeasing all customers. I ended up going with a Philadelphia roll and a Mango Tango specialty roll, which contained a combination of salmon and tuna, mango, avocado, and cucumbers. The ingredients were very fresh and I think the prices are quite reasonable. Without even asking, I was given gluten-free tamari sauce instead of normal soy sauce. The combination of the restaurant's extensive menu and how kind the staff were made this a really wonderful experience - I was very satisfied with my order and definitely see myself coming back again and again whenever I have a sushi craving. The only downside is that this is really more so a grab-and-go spot in general, as there were only two small tables in the entire store. As a heads up, they also prefer to take cash instead of card.
