It was just a little too doughy for me and needed more cabbage, definitely will pass on it next time. Now, to the part I forgot to take a picture of, the ramen. My sister got a miso ramen which was nice and sweet and had a little bit of a thicker broth. I got the tantanmen ramen which I really enjoyed. It was very nicely spicy which was a little hard to eat because slurping up the noodles meant the broth getting to the back of my throat. But once I figured out how to eat it, I throughly enjoyed it. We came here for lunch on a chilly Sunday afternoon when they first opened. It is small, cozy ramen place full of One Piece posters and figurines. We were seated right away as there was only one other group there. I got the chasyu ramen and my daughter got the spicy miso ramen. My husband who didn't like ramen had the tonkatsu. They have a ramen side (ground floor) and an izakaya side (upstairs), though I've only been to the ramen side. They have a couple buckets for umbrellas, which is much appreciated because the floors get slippery when wet! The service was attentive and friendly. The Beef Onigiri was huge! It came with mayo and soy sauce on the side to dip, as well as pickled veggies. This helped cut the beefiness. I love how the beef was mixed in with the rice instead of just in the center. The Kara Miso Ramen was tasty. The noodles were bouncy. The broth has a bit of a kick but was not too spicy. Nicely topped with crisp veggies, very tender and flavorful chashu, and a jammy egg. Arrived 6:10 on a weekday evening and scored the final table. Immediately after that, the crowds started to pour in and they all had to wait. Small narrow first floor setting. Diners were praising the ramen I hear from other tables. Ordered potato croquette. The croquette was made with precision flavors. Tasted the freshness, outer fried layer was also very golden. Being familiar with ramen with experience in having eaten in Japan, this is NOT on the same level. However this is a 5-star review because of its solid consistency, as shown by how the crowds were willing to wait outside. For me the star dish was the fried tofu. Friedness level was good and interior quality of the tofu was also decent but it was ultimately the sauce that it was drowned in! That was made with very well-thought out flavors. I didn't realize that there were two DIFFERENT restaurants in the same building. Their decor is also pretty similar with all the One Piece "WANTED" poster.. don't be like me and if you're meeting people for ramen IT'S ON THE GROUND FLOOR. Izakaya (I was sitting up there reading their menu for a bit lol) has yakitori and Japanese hot pot, their menu is completely different. I came here with my fam and kiddo on a Friday night. We were able to get a table no problem and there were two different servers manning the restaurant. They were so friendly with our toddler, allowed us to walk around with her so she wouldn't get fussy during our meal, and were just fantastic. The ramen wasn't the best I've ever had BUT for the price per bowl it's definitely worth it. We also got a couple of apps which were delicious as well. The best one we ordered, hands down, had to be the agedashi tofu. Usually at other restaurants I'd get a couple small square blocks of fried tofu and some sauce. Here, you get a bunch of bonito flakes that added that extra umami flavor, scallions, and pickled radish. Delish! We were surprised with mochi ice cream on the house at the end of the meal and if that wasn't a sweet enough deal, if you pay with cash you have an 8% discount. Get the Buta Ramen. It's got a strong flavor. It really stands out. And I love that it has garlic in it. Not Buffy, I'm going to slay some vampires strong, but a nice balance with the onions, ground meat and broth. But overall it was fine. The Katsu-Don was actually not great. The chicken katsu was very dry. The chicken itself was very thin and gave more of a rubbery texture. It also did not give off the usual flavors and textures of a Katsu-don, it just tasted like a soggy dry katsu with egg on top. Overall, the only thing I really didn't like was the Katsu-don. I came here on a rainy Wednesday night where it was not crowded, but each seat was still occupied. With only one waitress on the floor, she was able to manage it all. Started with almost one of each item from the appetizer menu, the quality of each plate was synchronized with the word "character." Tako Wasabi was bold and refreshing. Pardon the pun but Tamashii's ramen is GOLD. I came here for a late lunch/early dinner with my family and was surprised to see that they had a lunch special deal on M-Sat from 12-4PM. While the deal only saves you $1-3 on each dish, it's still nice to save money. The menu is quite hefty and has a variety of ramen, donburi, and izakaya options. The prices were all great for all the dishes and quality of the food we received. I ordered the Shoyu ramen which came with chasu, menma, and half of a marinated egg. The broth was rich and luxurious, the noodles a perfectly bouncy and chewy texture. Eating this bowl of ramen truly felt like a blessing on this frigid day when the weather forecast tricks you into thinking it won't be that cold but the wind chill proves otherwise. I will say that I finished the portion here does seem smaller than other places where they charge more per bowl, but I still think the pricing is fair. I was excited to see Tamashii gold finally opened! I visited last weekend with my boyfriend- it was a snowy, cold day, perfect day for some ramen! Make sure you enter through the glass door, here I was trying pull the fake? wooden door LOL! I think that's for decoration? Not sure. They have kiosk in the front, right when you enter, where you can order as well. The inside was newly renovated. One Piece fans- come hither! We were sat right near the kitchen since it was colder near the door. We got a few appetizers to share- tako wasabi, ika karaage, and the agedashi tofu. The tofu was super refreshing, I'd get this again. This was the first time I had tako wasabi (raw octopus with wasabi sauce) and it was interesting! Not bad. The Ika karaage (fried squid) was okay, it could've been a littlee more tender. This came with a small salad on the side. Oh, we also got some edamame on the house! For entrees, we tried the pork curry katsu osusume, tamashii ramen, and kara tsukemen. The osusume is more of a platter- comes with some cabbage salad, corn, rice and the curry katsu. We didn't see an option for a curry katsu donburi- not sure if they do this but will ask again next time! I normally get chicken katsu too and will probably try that next time as the pork was a little dry. I was hoping the broth for the tamashii ramen would blow me away but it was just okay. I got the agedashi tofu, ika kaarage, shoyu ramen with shrimp tempura and the miso ramen. The agedashi tofu, as described by my mother, was plain. The interior is done well and they have quite an extensive menu. Tried the spicy garlic pork over rice side dish. Sweeter than I was expecting, chopped cubes of chashu, nori and scallion. Okay, nothing spectacular. Takoyaki. It was fine but I would probably try something else. Personally I think Nippon Cha has one of the best takoyakis you can find in the NY metro area. Like, similar to Japan good. Tsukemen. I ordered the spicy one but I got just the regular one. They then brought a small sauce dish with spicy sauce and said that's basically what the spicy one was. I'm not sure what the sauce was but it tasted very similar to sambal oelek. Like standard issue Huy Fong sambal oelek. Noodles were bouncy and cooked well but the broth was just lacking. Chashu was good but the broth wasn't thicker (as it usually is) and just really lacked of flavor. I actually ended up not even finishing it. Friend got the Tamashii Ramen, he finished it but also said it was very bland. Family tried it about a week later, similar feedback although someone said the buta ramen was better. This is a new ramen restaurant on Bayside. The exterior looks modern with the wooden sign. Went on a weekday and there was a bit of a wait to be seated. Food I've gotten the Kara Age Don. This is a fried chicken that's served with an egg over rice. The rice to meat ration was not well given. There was only a thin layer of chicken not enough for me to finish the meal. I felt like I was eating more of the rice than tasting the chicken. Experience One of the reasons why I've put a low rating on this restaurant is definitely the food that was served but the service here. Towards their customers they are very friendly. It is a nice close knit restaurant interior. However one thing that I've noticed is that it seems like the manger of the store was really mean to their own workers. She was being nasty towards someone who accidentally threw away wooden chopstick in the wrong waste bin. We got the potato croquette, curry ramen, and chasyu don. The potato croquette was nice and light and very flavorful. The curry ramen is also pretty light- I expected the normal thick kind of japanese curry, but this feels more like a curry mixed with soup broth. It's alright, nothing mind blowing. Went ~7PM on a Tuesday night to the izakaya and got seated right away. We got their yakitori and agadashi tofu with a side of rice and it was pretty good! My friend especially enjoyed the mochi with pork belly. Servers were kind and attentive and there was a whole lot of the one piece anime everywhere but it was done tastefully.
