The restaurant was decorated with Japanese deco. Nothing too fancy. Lots of tables for 2, 4, 6.... The menu was extensive enough that you can have just about anything imaginable. (Didn't see uni). They had some creative rolls and the usual. We selected the trio dinner with salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Did some rolls on the side too! Everything was fresh and yummy! The service was excellent. I've ordered several times with Uber eats. It's decent sashimi. I always order the sashimi deluxe with a few extra ikura sushi. And Naruto roll was pretty good. And I like their spicy Kani salad But I've had way better and I've had way worse. Occasionally they have been off on their pieces. And I asked for extra wasabi and ginger and received neither. New ownership of this Francis Lewis Blvd sushi joint renamed Kumo Sushi from the old Yamato Sushi. They still have stock of the old Yamato printed napkins and are still using them until they run out. Very little has changed in the switchover. It's still a quaint neighborhood restaurant on a block with a bunch of other restaurants. The menu covers all the standard sushi offerings with sushi & sashimi dinners and a la carte nigiri. We usually like to order a couple of the specialty maki rolls as appetizer or get a few as your entree. My favorites, though are the bento dinner boxes because they offer a variety of different cooked and raw fish dishes combined into one convenient tray. You choose the main dish in each, such as chicken or beef teriyaki or negimaki, mixed tempura, chicken or pork katsu, sushi or sashimi and your choice is paired with a 6pc California roll, shrimp & vegetable tempura, shrimp shumai, a scoop of rice and choice of a salad, clear mushroom or miso soup. A better deal you won't find anywhere. Plus each time we've gone, the chef made us a special appetizer. The last one was a tasty avocado & kani salad over crispy rice cake. Had another great experience doing take out from this spot, they have great lunch special options. Price and portions were great for an sushi spot. Lunch special hibachi salmons was $13.75 , and any three roll lunch special was $15. Compare to other sushi spot, this spot definitely beat the price. Service was also good, polite and friendly. The food was also very fresh and delicious, very authentic. Both lunch special also came with a side of either salad or soup, I ordered both just to try. The miso soup was on point. 3.5 stars Decent sushi here! My family and I got some takeout awhile back. We got the Sashimi deluxe which had 21 pieces ($25), the beef teriyaki, and three rolls ($19). The sashimi deluxe had salmon, red snapper, yellow tail, tuna, white salmon, mackerel, and crab meat. Pretty fresh and good. The beef teriyaki was a littlee overcooked, but might be better eaten there. This was a pretty big portion size with the tempura and salad. My first time trying this place....love the ambiance and their sushi. Their sushi was delicious and fresh! I tried the Tiffany roll super yummy! Fantasy roll and crazy salmon roll were also so good. First time here as we wanted to find a good local sushi spot. Usually we dine in Great Neck or Woodbury but too much traffic east on a Friday night. We ordered the Love Boat for 2 which was delish. Two great rolls, Volcano and Herndon. 20 pieces sashimi, 10 pieces sushi. Did not need to upgrade from usual spicy tuna or rainviw roll accompanying this entree. Everything was fresh and tasty. Attentive service. Next time we will have them deliver to us. Parking in this area is tough and at 630 pm we were the only ones dining here. Like a busier restaurant. read more

New neighborhood sushi bar with intimate tables and a friendly atmosphere. Kumo took over for the retired owners of Yamato, and kept many of the favorites, as well as classics but added in some fresh new flavors and a younger feel. They are waiting for their liquor license, so we had hot green tea, crisp salad, a nice fried rice patty appetizer on the house, followed by flavorful vegetable gyoza and a few rolls. We also took a couple of 3 roll specials to go. For the quality and freshness of the food, and the attentive service, we found $100 (to feed 4 people) after tax and before tip to be very reasonable. I would've preferred a better selection of sashimi, but this is pretty run-of-the-mill for a sushi sashimi combo. The volcano roll was really tasty as well. The Kani salad was complementary with the purchase of $40 or more. Unfortunately the Kani salad with soggy and sad. We got the fried oyster which were super plump and not overly greasy. The soft shell crab was also good, but a bit thick on the batter. A replacement to once-reliable but clearly declining Yamato Sushi, Kumo was an opportunity to inject a place of decent sushi into the myriad of Greek and Italian restaurants that fill these streets. Unfortunately, it was not to be. I will say the prices are extremely reasonable- with lunch specials ranging from $11-$15 when ordered online. However, the fish and rolls leave much to be desired. The yellowtail in particular is of very much suspect. Very fishy and with the texture of almost ripped sandpaper, I fear for my stomach in the days to come. The salmon is more bearable in its freshness, but the rice under both sushi pieces was cold, hard, with very little flavoring. The spicy salmon roll is a mixed bag. The rolls do have a good amount of salmon in them, and they aren't too massacred, leaving nice chunks of salmon throughout. However, the tempura flakes taste... old. The flakes brought an extremely unpleasant stale taste and texture to the roll, making it almost inedible.. almost, I did finish them. The food is teetering 2 star worthy, but the manager or whoever called me on the phone was a complete gentleman. He heeded my request about switching out the tuna pieces in my order since I currently cannot eat tuna. Truly a lovely individual to call me and confirm. I want this spot to do well! But until there's a true increase in quality, I cannot in good faith recommend this new sushi spot... (but please change my mind soon! read more

Was walking by and noticed the old Yamato sushi restaurant changed owners which is now Kumo sushi. Decided to stop in and was greeted right away. The decor on the inside is pretty much the same however the prices are a lot more affordable than Yamato sushi. They have a 3 roll combo for only $19! And it comes with a soup or salad. We got the eel avocado, shrimp tempura and spider roll and my husband got the angry dragon roll. Every week I ordered from here. Food was great! up until today. I am pregnant and can not have raw fish. I always put a note to substitute a roll for kani or something cooked. Today I received my order and no changes were made. I called and was told I was a liar and that they never replaced rolls in orders! MIND YOU I ORDER EVERY WEEK! Come here after reading good reviews for Sunday lunch (emtpy-we were the only customers at 1pm - that should've been the first sign and the muddy water fish tank - second sign). Ordered the deluxe sashimi for 2, dragon roll, rainbow naturo roll and chicken teriyaki. The sashimi was just bad - old defrosted smelly fish. So sad. We left the plate almost untouched. The rolls were okayy... the chicken teriyaki was soooo sweet and the chicken was so rubbery. The two stars are for the service (our waiter was nice) and the free mochi dessert in the end or else it would have been negative stars. The bill came out to $87 (including tip). read more
