This restaurant is a Bayside Gem. Great decor and food to match. Service was excellent. As soon as we sat we were given and green tea. The rest of the entrees followed soon after. Loved the restaurant. We will return

New ownership of this Francis Lewis Blvd sushi joint renamed Kumo Sushi from the old Yamato Sushi. They still have stock of the old Yamato printed napkins and are still using them until they run out. Very little has changed in the switchover. It's still a quaint neighborhood restaurant on a block with a bunch of other restaurants. The menu covers all the standard sushi offerings with sushi & sashimi dinners and a la carte nigiri. We usually like to order a couple of the specialty maki rolls as appetizer or get a few as your entree. My favorites, though are the bento dinner boxes because they offer a variety of different cooked and raw fish dishes combined into one convenient tray. You choose the main dish in each, such as chicken or beef teriyaki or negimaki, mixed tempura, chicken or pork katsu, sushi or sashimi and your choice is paired with a 6pc California roll, shrimp & vegetable tempura, shrimp shumai, a scoop of rice and choice of a salad, clear mushroom or miso soup. A better deal you won't find anywhere. Plus each time we've gone, the chef made us a special appetizer. The last one was a tasty avocado & kani salad over crispy rice cake. Everything we had was fresh, fresh, fresh! Don't forget dessert. Highly recommend!

Had another great experience doing take out from this spot, they have great lunch special options. Price and portions were great for an sushi spot. Lunch special hibachi salmons was $13.75 , and any three roll lunch special was $15. Compare to other sushi spot, this spot definitely beat the price. Service was also good, polite and friendly. The food was also very fresh and delicious, very authentic. Both lunch special also came with a side of either salad or soup, I ordered both just to try. The miso soup was on point. The salad was as usual nothing special. Overall I had an excellent experience, next time I would definitely do a dine in experience.

Pretty good sushi! Had the Crazy Salmon Rill, Eel Avocado Roll, Volcano Roll and all tasted very good! Service was great and it's a very comfortable place to eat at! I was just a bit surprised how small the servings were, we had to order another roll for a group of 3 people!

3.5 stars Decent sushi here! My family and I got some takeout awhile back. We got the Sashimi deluxe which had 21 pieces ($25), the beef teriyaki, and three rolls ($19). The sashimi deluxe had salmon, red snapper, yellow tail, tuna, white salmon, mackerel, and crab meat. Pretty fresh and good. The beef teriyaki was a littlee overcooked, but might be better eaten there. This was a pretty big portion size with the tempura and salad. The 3 rolls were all good too, i liked the eel avocado but would pass on the spicy kani next time. Shrimp tempura was ok too For a neighborhood sushi place, pretty decent!

Happy Father's Day! It was about a 15 minutes walk from my house to Kumo Sushi. I decided to cross this new Japanese spot off my bookmarks. Today, I came here for lunch to order take-out. I informed one of the employees about my food allergies. Food: *sharing is caring* Crazy Salmon Roll (raw) - My parents liked it. Rock Shrimp Tempura Roll - One word: Scrumptious Pork Katsu - Don't ask for their miso soup because it was watered-down. The Pork Katsu was delicious and crispy. Kaki Fried - OMG, you are my favorite! Bookmark this spot to try!

My first time trying this place....love the ambiance and their sushi. Their sushi was delicious and fresh! I tried the Tiffany roll super yummy! Fantasy roll and crazy salmon roll were also so good. I also tried their spicy kani salad, I just wish, they should more of it, it was small portion. I will try more of their other foods next time.

New neighborhood sushi bar with intimate tables and a friendly atmosphere. Kumo took over for the retired owners of Yamato, and kept many of the favorites, as well as classics but added in some fresh new flavors and a younger feel. They are waiting for their liquor license, so we had hot green tea, crisp salad, a nice fried rice patty appetizer on the house, followed by flavorful vegetable gyoza and a few rolls. We also took a couple of 3 roll specials to go. For the quality and freshness of the food, and the attentive service, we found $100 (to feed 4 people) after tax and before tip to be very reasonable. The former owners survived the challenge of covid, we hope Kumo regains the following their predecessor had. Good luck!

Came back from round two. Sushi was good. Tempura flakes were a bit stale but other than that my lunch was delish! Tried toro special roll and spicy salmon roll.

Pre pandemic it was my favorite budget ayce spot. After the pandemic I was a bit disappointed when I felt they skimped on plating and utensils making it feel cheap and low effort, but since then they have brought back a lot more of that aesthetic and vibe I loved all those years ago. Now contrary to that-- Flushing locations a COMPLETELY different vibe. It's brightly lit, spacious, clean aesthetic (both locations are clean sanitary wise) and overall it's a nice spot to meet friends and grab a bite. The fish quality is always fresh, and this past time I went especially it was good. The servers are very attentive, constantly coming by to clean away any plates and trash and asking if we need water or tea refills often. The place was busy but I didn't feel like I was struggling to have conversation an overall I enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately Akino cannot be called a budget ayce anymore as you'll likely spend 45-50 per person if you choose to get drinks with your meal. But still for all the aspects it does offer I'd say it's worth it once in a while. For those new to Akino there's no uni served here but the service and consistent staple options on the menu make Akino a great addition to the neighborhood.

I arrived at 6pm and there were a few customers already dining, by the time it was 7pm, it was almost full. Was in a nice group who, like me, enjoys a place with great food. We started with soft shell crabs, edemame, chicken katsu, gyoza, and lots of drinks. Peter, our bartender, was awesome. As you will see in my photos, he can make some well adorned drinks and he is a nice guy as well. I pretty much stuck to a smooth Nigori Sake they stock. I chose the omakase dinner which was fabulous. The sushi is very fresh and it just keeps on coming. Meanwhile Felicia, our server, was constantly checking in to see if everything is going well. She had a easy going quality about her, and very calm and smooth in bringing our meals. This turned out to be quite a nice night. Wabi Nori is a great date place, or a place to bring a family. We tried Kaizen before and the quality/atmosphere is very similar so they probably have the same suppliers and maybe even same owners just rebranding. We ordered 2 mixed drinks from happy hour and they were fine but very sweet and not much alcohol. We also got the 6 handroll combo that came with spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, scallop, crab and lobster. I asked for less rice but the waitress said they don't put a lot of rice so I let it be. It was A LOT of rice. We also couldn't taste the difference between the rolls because all the fish was super chopped up and heavily seasoned so everything was mushy and tasted the same. Although service was good, we won't be back and can't recommend this spot :(

The nigiri was good as well, they don't use toppings that you normally see at other omakases (of similar price point) so the nigiri was more similar to the nigiri served at authentic japanese omakases (not sure if this is Japanese owned but I don't think so). Nigiri was also not the typical basic fish (e.g salmon, unagi), but fish like barracuda and kinmedai. For dessert, we had fior di latte ice cream which was amazing, I still think about it, and they were kind enough to give us an extra one. Service was great and not too talkative or invasive. They gave us a letter at the end which showed everything we ate at the omakase that day and personalized with your name on it which I thought was nice. Not sure if they changed the course throughout the day though since some of what was on the letter was not what we had during the course. They also gave us a candle. It is $165 for a 13 course - it also comes with appetizer and dessert as well. The place is located inside Siam Thai - behind a bookshelf, the vibes are immaculate back there. The chief was so friendly and took his time to explain each dish to us and also took time to chat with us which I thought was really nice especially since I have mainly been to "fast casual" omakase locations recently where they don't really chat with you. There was a good variety of appetizers, fish and dessert. The appetizer options were so unique and the platting was so pretty. The fish options were also very plentiful and I liked the topping that they put on top of each one, the rich was not as warm and soft as I would usually like it but they paired well with the fish. The portion sizes were also pretty large which I thought was nice especially since we were paying about $165 a person. If you are getting sake, they do let you sample the sake before opening the whole bottle. The presentation of the opened sake was also so fancy. Overall - if you want a more traditional omakase experience, I highly recommend checking this place out. The vibes are immaculate and you will have a good time chatting with the chef while enjoying your food!
