The menu. Have to come back to try the food?!
Michael M.

So driving home, in the rain, Coney Island Avenue is a nightmare. I decide to take a left turn down Cortelyou! I see this nice Coffee sign in the window of a covered outdoor dinning space. I find a spot down the street and walk in. It's so cozy with ceiling heaters with cool carpets. Making this a special venue. A delightful young Italian woman Iskra, greets me and seats me at great table, with a view of the busy avenue. I'm interested in dessert because I've already eaten in Manhattan at a Le Pane Quotidian. Iskra says the gluten free butternut squash cake is delicious So I order a slice. Boy she's not fibbing, it's moist and delicious. A nice cup of coffee I also order. That's just perfect. Can't wait to come back for dinner!

Returned for dinner last weekend and thought it was even better than the brunch we had last time! We really enjoyed the eggplant hummus ($14 - wish it came with one more pita!), the shawarma bowl ($17) and the branzino bowl ($22). Such homey comfort food.

$23 beef bowl and $17 chicken Shawarma Bowl
Kseniya K.

$23 beef bowl and $17 chicken Shawarma Bowl were disappointing. The price did not reflect the quality or the quantity. Tiny bowls with subpar food. Who charges so much for such mediocre food in such small quantity? This is not Manhattan, this is Brooklyn, in the middle of a packed, busy, dirty, loud street. Who came up with such prices? This place is a tiny food & flower shop, but they put out outdoor tables in good weather to make some profit. This hole in a wall should not be charging such prices. Only one overwhelmed waitress was not capable of taking care of a full house of dinners. We got no service. No water. No checking in on anything. She didn't know the menu, so couldn't recommend anything or speak about any of the dishes. So not helpful. Spend your money elsewhere.

Get the fish pita too!!

Food was bussin. Strolled in on a Wednesday night with my husband and we enjoyed a relaxing dinner. The store and restaurant is really cute. Service was busy but that's ok. You have to be patient but food and drinks came out quickly. Not sure what the other review was about but this street is not that busy for NY. We will be back.

Mushroom Hummus, Babaganoush, Pita Bread Wheat, plus Sycamore Beers
Lauren M.

Delicious food and a fun place to browse! The mushroom hummus is my go to favorite. It's warm, savory, and quite filling if you want a light but satisfying meal. I've dined here for an in-person meal, which was mostly enjoyable. Unfortunately there can be many distractions and interruptions to your conversation since Cortelyou is so busy and the fire station is right across the street. I've ordered takeout a few times to bring over to nearby Sycamore Bar, which allows you to bring in food. It's the perfect sized snack/meal that's not your typical greasy bar food fare to accompany my drinks and trivia time while at Sycamore. While you wait for food, browse the imported Mediterranean groceries and selection of craft beers. I guarantee there will also be something surprising to check out and possible bring home!

Food was okay. Portions were incredibly small for the price. Very disappointing, wouldn't recommend.

I had to be quick, but it was simply amazing and the service was exquisite. I enjoyed the falafel platter and it came out within about six minutes.

Hummus home made bread and hard seltzers
Amanda D.

I actually made an order through Drizzly, not knowing that this a restaurant. They didn't have one of the hard seltzers I wanted so they actually canceled that part of my order and then threw in 6 random drinks to make up for it. Thought that they were so nice for that! They also threw in a hummus and some homemade savory bread. They were both good but the hummus was delicious!! I had no idea this place was near me, will 100% be ordering food from here next time!

Not much to say except for don't walk RUN to Mimi's Hummus. One of the best meals I had in a long time. Everything was AMAZING! The service was immaculate and welcoming. The ambiance was cute and quaint. A Cortelyou road gem I know I will return to over and over again.

Shawarma Pita
Gentjana H.

We ordered a couple of things. Started with humus which was good but I would have liked the pita to feel fresher. Also got the shawarma pita, Bronzino pita and beets. All the above were good, the flavor was on point. I would order the shawarma pita next time .. it tasted sooo good . Also was not super expensive.

Mimi's is a super delicious, cute, and intimate restaurant on Cortelyou. My friend and I had dinner here a couple weeks ago and loved everything! We shared the tabbouleh salad, mushroom hummus with pita, and mujaddara bowl with beet salad. The tabbouleh salad was light and fresh. The mushroom hummus was tasty and actually really filling, especially with the pita bread. The pita here is one of the best I've had! The mujaddara bowl was so interesting and full of flavor. I also absolutely loved the yogurt it was paired with. Although I typically don't love beets on their own, I enjoyed the beet salad and thought it was a refreshing side, especially next to a lentil-based dish. Despite coming in hungry and ordering just a few items, we were both full at the end of the meal and even had leftovers! Taste | 4.5 Atmosphere | 4 Presentation | 4 Service | 4 OVERALL | 4.5

The quality of their food has always been top notch and honestly is my favorite spot for a Turkish meal. Their hummus and basically all their skewers, kababs and grilled meats are simply amazing. Fast forward, I haven't gone to Taci's Beyti for over a year and I just recently went for our anniversary dinner over the weekend. Place still felt the same, so I ordered my hummus, mixed grill and the chicken kebab for the misses. When The entrees arrived, I was a bit disappointed. They seem to have changed what use to come with their main entrees. Gone is the bed of thinly sliced onions under your meats, so is the roasted pepper and also the roasted tomato. Three items I actually enjoyed having with my entree. They also changed the pita under the meats as well but they replaced it with a very sad salad instead, with no dressing or even a vinaigrette at that. Just plain dry leaves with some red onions. They also have two prices now, one for cash and one for credit, the cost has gone up (which I understand) but they've also cut the portions and what use to come with it. Yes the food is still good but after that last trip I am rethinking about ever going back. I am disappointed that either through choice, greed, or whatever they decided to cut back. Time to scout and try some other Turkish restaurants in the boroughs I suppose, and no I am not leaving a one star review, their food quality and taste hasn't changed. I am just very disappointed.

Israeli style with pickles, which I love. The chickpea soup was a standout. So flavorful and nourishing; definitely a nod to the sopa de garbanzos that I grew up with. The generous portion of labane is rich and complimented by herbs and an excellent olive oil. But it only comes with one pita! Personally, I'd prefer a smaller portion with more bread. Ok, first, let's be accurate about a few things. Etymologically, "batata" comes from the Spanish for "potato." This is a nod to "Sephardic" Jews, from the Hebrew word for the Iberian Peninsula (by definition, Spain and Portugal; after "expulsion," this came to include a diaspora more broadly northern African. As a result, many American Jews were until recently unfamiliar with the malawach, one of the prides of the Yemenite Jewish kitchen. The fillings are a bit untraditional, served with scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese, but paired with the tomato chutney often seen with jachnun. Hopefully we will eventually see more Sephardic cuisine in the city, beyond just Kubeh and an occasional malawach cameo.

On another sign in front of the door, they're Tandoori Food & Bakery. One the inside, they advertise as Chaihana Salom. What doesn't confuse me, though, is how ridiculously delicious and authentic everything they prepare is. Upon stepping in, you're greeted by a fairly timid mom and pop setting. Four small tables, a sink, a small counter, and walls decadently decorated with paintings and mementos of Uzbekistan. The workers are down to Earth and get straight to the point. No time for chit chat when you have a thriving business to run. - Samsa: We were told by family friends that Two Way has the absolute best samsa in all of Brooklyn. While that's a bold statement, they are definitely up in my top rankings. The crust is of perfect thickness and flakiness. Inside, you are greeted my a monstrous amount of lamb, onions, and delectable lard. Juices flow out like the nectar of the Uzbek gods. What makes their samsa so special is that they have a legit tandoor in the back. It's not the same as what you might find in a Tashkent street market, but its very close. - Shurpa: A tomato based soup of lamb, potatoes, and other vegetables. Wonderfully prepared and full of that distinct aroma that shurpa is known for. One of the best I've had. Most patrons you will see here are locals. English will be rarely heard, but I'm sure is spoken. Next time I'm back in New York, I'll be sure to return and place a to-go order for half a suitcase full of samsa to bring back to California. These guys are ruthless too. The sign outside says "Those who do not drink tea will be ended." The Russian word "hana" means death, the end, but is also included in the word "chaihana" = tea house.
