I understand rent in Brooklyn is high but, after this meal so is my cholesterol and sodium levels. Only thing down is my bank account. I would usually pass on leaving a review but this pricing deserves some critiques. The shawarma "bowl" was as pungent as salt water and had very little representation of what shawarma should be. I first experienced Mimi's Hummus many years back before it was a market and adored their hummus plates. Now that it's a mini market, it's even better! My favorite sandwich is the Iraqi Pita--delicious, more than enough for a meal, and a great vegetarian option (if you're into that thing). The market offers in-house to-go hummus, tahini, and all the other Mediterranean mezes you can imagine. So sorry to write this review - but hopefully it will help to change things at Mimi's - our once favorite place to go to and to order from. Mimi's is one of the three top places to have really, really good hummus in NY (I'm Israeli). They also certainly have the no. 1 shakshuka. Hands down. We used to go there and order delivery all the time, until this started to happen (see photo). In the past couple times we ordered the beloved shakshuka, it arrived in a such a state that "disappointing" isn't a strong enough word to describe it. There was barely any tomato sauce, the eggs were over cooked, and there was simply more oil than anything else. It was also cold, the paper plate it was contained in was soggy and crumbling, and the whole thing just looked terrible. Though we've called Mimi's and complained twice, this kept happening. We were refunded - but what we wanted more than those $15 was to have this amazing shakshuka back. So Mimi's - not sure who makes the deliveries - but please have a serious talk with them. Came here for lunch and ordered for take out. It came out very quickly which is sometimes alarming but i waited to taste to judge. The food was good. The hummus was well made and the bread that they had was very good. It looked like a pita but it was more like bread. There wasnt much meat in the meal so they seemed like they were skimping but the taste was there. The price was the only negative and it was $15. That is expensive for take out lunch but the flavor was good. Might come try some other items. read more

We had a great experience at Mimi's. The restaurant is pretty small as it seats about a dozen guests. Regardless of size, the food and the service were fantastic. My girlfriend and I started with roasted cauliflower and the labneh spread. I enjoyed the labneh with their pita bread a lot. I thought the contrast between the creamy cheese and the nutty spice created a great pairing. For my main course, I had the shawarma bowl. I'd definitely recommend this dish. They used thinly sliced cucumber rather than cucumber and tomato salad which was interesting twist. The flavor profile of the dish was excellent. For dessert, we had punchim and tahini carrot cake. The punchim had an interesting texture; it felt like it almost evaporated when I ate it. The chocolate and pistachio flavors were were delicate. The tahini carrot cake was good too; I didn't taste much tahini flavor aside from the sesame seeds on the crust of the cake. Otherwise, it was a great dessert and would be a great pairing with coffee or tea. read more

Mine came with carrots and no salad - when I called they just told me to ask for a refund on Grubhub and said I was wrong and carrots were default. Didn't apologize or offer to replace. I used to come here a lot before the pandemic. The food was ok, for the most part. They converted to a grocery store during the pandemic-the items were pricey, kind of sloppily displayed, but did a job in a pinch. As the mask mandate kicked in I started to notice that every time I came in, even as the employees were wearing masks, the owners were not, putting the employees and community in danger. Sad to have to cut off support to a local business during these times, but the owners have made it clear they don't care about the community they're part of, and therefore don't deserve support. read more

I was told this establishment was here for 10 years, and now I'm depressed that I missed out so long! The hummus with mushrooms was fresh and flavorful and the thick pita it was served with was an excellent accompaniment. The cauliflower tasted of tahini and was also excellent. The shakshuka had an incredibly tangy and fresh tomato sauce with eggs that were perfectly done. The finishing touch of Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake made the meal...just the right consistency and served, as it should be, at room temperature. I will return often. We ordered delivery and I think this just became one of my favorite hummus joints! It took an hour but was worth the wait. Every side was fresh and delicious. The beets are cut ultra fine with little bits of red onion thrown in. The cauliflower was not overcooked, still a little firm. Their carrots come with a generous amount of feta. And their quinoa, which I never like, was very flavorful. I think the quinoa is their version of a Mediterranean salad, as it had all the standard ingredients like red onions and cucumber, chopped small and mixed in. The spiced mushroom hummus is not spiced as in "hot", just nicely seasoned. It's drizzled with a good bit of oil, more than I see at other places and I wonder if this is also why I loved it so much. The mushrooms chunks were cut just right (not slivers, not chunks too big to chew), and were served in the right proportion to the hummus so you don't have to worry about running out of shrooms while you still have hummus ;) read more

Yum. Had brunch here with some friends on a late morning and enjoyed the middle eastern eggs. It's basically their version of eggs Benedict, but vegetarian and wayyy better than any eggs Benedict I've ever had. Two poached eggs and chunky tomatoes with tzadziki served over a couple lengthy pieces of sourdough is not a mistake. There's also feta sprinkled all over the top and around the plate. With the Cortelyou strip blowing up like a Brooklyn strip should, Mimi's is the perfect addition to the variety of eateries offered there. I will always love Mediterranean food so it definitely gets a star just for being my favourite cuisine. A bunch of us came here to try the breakfast menu. Firstly let's talk about the decor and vibe. Mimi's is definitely a tiny spot with very limited seats but if you come at the right hours, you'll be seated right away. The kitchen is right behind the counter with open view so you can see everything that goes on there. For me, that's a good thing. I like watching the chefs work. We were seated right away and water and menus were brought within seconds. Once we ordered we did not have to wait long for our dishes to come. They are extremely vegetarian friendly which is a big plus these days. My absolute favourite dish was the shakshuka. Texture, taste/spice was perfect. The tomato sauce was chunky with lots of garlic and onions added for flavor. Yum. The pancakes are different than the usual pancakes you'd get for brunch. Lots of honey and very very sweet. Not the biggest fan. Coffee was perfectly strong and free refills. They did have these chocolate rumballs that we ordered which were so damn amazing. The perfect end to a great breakfast. Other than that, everything was perfect. I used pita and cleaned the skillet. Traditional Hummus $8 - large bowl, tasted like any other hummus out in the market. Nothing special and bland. If you're looking for some simple yet solid Mediterranean food, Mimi's has got you covered. The best move here is to get a bunch of items and just go crazy. The original lemon garlic hummus comes with a mound of warm chickpeas in the middle, delicious. And if you like mushrooms, try the mushroom hummus. Also comes with a mound of warm and moist mushrooms in the middle. Labneh(thick tangy yogurt)-comes with a drizzle of olive oil and Zaatar seasoning, yum. Shakshuka-comes piping hot in a cast iron skillet. Sweet, spicy, and perfect on a cold day. Also comes with side of Israeli salad and pita. Ample of amount of pita is provided!!! (I hate middle eastern joints that give me hummus and not enough pita to eat it with!) Whole wheat pita is available as well. Literally just walked out of Mimi's Hummus - if not for the service, this would have been hands down a 5 star review. However, to my disappintmentd, the lack of service utterly overshadowed the quality of its food, so much so that I felt compelled to write this review as soon as I walked out of the restaurant. The food was delicious in its own right - we ordered the Israeli pickles ($4), traditional hummus ($9), and a bowl of chicken shawarma ($14). The pickles were tasty but on the softer side; the hummus was deliciously smooth; the shawarma was not off a spit as we hoped but flavorful nonetheless. We also ordered an extra pita ($1) for the hummus (yes, this restaurant charges per pita, unlike traditional middle eastern restaurants that provide at least 3-4 from the start). The pita was fluffy and definitely authentic. I would say the food was great but nothing to go out of my way for. Unfortunately, the good review ends there. The hummus came relatively quickly but for some reason, we ended up waiting 45 minutes for the shawarma. The table of two next to us (also a table of 2) got their order not too long after they sat down, while we were still waiting for our pita by the time they finished eating. I think the waitress probably just forgot about the shawarma and the pita as we had to remind her that we were still waiting for it. When we finally got our pita and shawarma, we saw that the waitress only gave us 1 pita when we had ordered 2. We asked for the check soon after we finished eating and When I thought nothing else could go wrong, of course something did. We noticed we were charged for an extra pita and had to ask the waitress to remove it from our bill. The thing that bothered me most is that all of this happened without any acknowledgement or apology from the waitress, which shows that she doesn't really care about her customers. Up to you to decide whether or not Mimi's Hummus is worth the terrible service, but I will not be going back anytime soon. read more

Visited with a friend and her small child, under 3. Our waitress was very friendly. However, I sensed some animosity between her and what seemed to be her (rather rude) boss. The 'boss' had a very unattractive air about her and screwed up her face just as I was about to ask her something. Not sure what her problem was and the attitude was unbecoming. Starters of hummus and pita were quite good. Cauliflower salad was tasty. My main was rather lacking. I ordered salmon, very bland and the Freekeh was actually the worst thing I have tasted in a long time. Tasted fermented and was totally unpalatable. I'm usually pretty good at eating things that aren't to my taste but I wanted to gag. The nice waitress saw my bleek face and offered couscous instead. 100 times better. We asked for the check and were told their machine wasn't working so had to scramble together cash (they could have mentioned it earlier!) The check came... and the total wasn't added up. The food is tasty and obviously of good quality. The eponymous hummuses are sufficiently smooth and creamy and the kebab, though minuscule is moist and tasty. Chicken Schwarma barely registered however, and frankly it and everything else is wildly overpriced, especially considering said tiny portions. The place has a stranglehold on the local population due to the extremely limited neighborhood restaurant scene however, and I will no doubt be forced to eat here again many more times, on the occasions when work takes me to these parts. read more

I understand that sometimes things happen and orders cannot be fulfilled but I checked in on the status of my order at 8:15 pm and was notified that my order would be sent out shortly. Very frustrated at the false information I was given. By the time my order was cancelled, most of the other restaurants in my area were already closed. I enjoy Mimi's Hummus whenever I go. It's a tiny spot, but the food is so yummy and comforting. I tend to come for the lunch special, and last time I got a Mujaddara bowl (lentils, bulgur wheat, raisins, scallions, onions, and sheep's yogurt) and spiced carrots. So delicious. Went to their market to buy some baked goods, and wanted to support a business in my area during these tough times. Unfortunately, after buying one tahini carrot cake and one lemon olive oil cake, I was left in a weird place of thinking "is something this bad ok to reach out to Mimis during covid and complain about food while they are trying to survive?" Hence why I am here. The tahini carrot cake was dry, and had next to no flavor, but the lemon olive oil cake.... that was a new level of dry I ever experienced. I legitimately almost choked twice from trying to swallow this Sahara desert of a loaf that dried my whole throat and logged itself in the back of my throat. It's inedible. The best part of it all was that each of these cakes were at a price point of $12 each. I would consider this a premium price for what you end up getting, and you would expect it to be good to justify the purchase. At the end of the day, this should've been given away at a max price of $5 or donated if it was old, and personally won't be returning to Mimis. They've disappointed me in the past with their subpar Israeli fare, and I know for a fact they couldn't compete in the city with better versions of themselves, but in an area with no competition or no expertise of food knowledge like Ditmas Park....they may have half a leg to still stand on. read more

Cutey cute little spot in the former Trailer Park space. There is a small open kitchen where all the ingredients are neatly arranged. Old photographs on the wall make this joint homey and neighborhoody. I had the special tomato salad- no hummus. Took the B from the UWS to try this humus . I glad i did. Excellent spicy squash soup to start , it change i am sure daily , so if its still there , try it ! The humus was excellent and next time i will def will try the other humus options. Cauliflower salad was very good though too big as an appetizer. Its was great to find the old fashion "chocolate balls" .....:) And then to appreciate the excellent little "foody store " next door . Great combination of food variety .
