This place is kind of a hole in the wall. The only meat is lamb or chicken gyro cut off a spit. It's also not particularly clean inside. I have actually been here more than once - once bc my car broke down nearby & I had to wait for a tow truck, & once bc I was at BK Banya a few doors down, & I left starving bc their kitchen is temporarily closed. The ingredients are not of the highest quality, & the prices are higher than they should be given everything above. I think they charged me ~$4.50 for a bottle of Mexican soda. Generous portion, filling and overall very yummy. My bf had the lamb gyro platter ($9.75) which was just okay - the texture reminded us of mystery meat. We would've preferred it in smaller portions, perhaps in a mixed plate with other proteins. We also tried a couple of kebabs - the kofta ($1.50) and chapli ($3) - which were also okay but I'd personally skip next time. I'd just stick to the basics: chicken gyro platter or mixed platter and perhaps their namesake, a gyro (pita sandwich)! And if anyone was wondering, I got an Arizona iced tea with my last dollar. My office has ordered from here a couple of times and they're a great choice for halal platters. I usually always get their mixed plates. The meat that it comes with tastes very fresh and is flavorful. The rice on the side is fragrant. Additionally, the salad it comes with has a nice mix of veggies and is very fresh. My main complaint is that I wish there was more meat and rice than salad since the former would be more filling. However, the portions that come with each order are huge. One thing I can't stand when it comes to food establishments? Negligence and carelessness. If you're not going to prepare someone's food with the same care and respect you would want from someone preparing YOUR FOOD, then you shouldn't own a restaurant or any type of business for that matter. However, I really did enjoy their lamb and so I decided to order from them tonight. I placed the order 30 minutes ahead of their closing time on Doordash which was 12:30. Their official closing time is at 1. When it comes to halal in general, my only request EVER has always been that the meat be chopped up very small. I have a pet peeve with large chunks of lamb or chicken, especially cause it's usually dark meat. I also get my sauce on the side. That way I can heat it up in the oven without it getting soggy. My order arrived in a plastic grocery bag that wasn't even properly sealed or wrapped. The aluminum container could've been accessed by anybody and tbh I would'nt be surprised if it was with the way that it looked. The white sauce was spilled all in the bag. And the biggest let down? It literally looked like they didn't even bother to put any type of effort into my order at all. I have never seen pieces of chicken that big in a halal platter in all my years of living. It looked thrown together or worse, like someone had their hands all up in my food. No way for me to know though so it went in the garbage. This is a GO-TO for halal that beats any truck experience. Mostly because they pack the combo and pita sandwiches with additional veggies like red cabbage and chickpeas! The meat is juicy and fresh and the rice has a flavorful spice added to it that I can't name, but would know instantly if someone else said it. Food is quite plentiful for the price and the service is as fast as can be for a place that can get flooded with orders. We are frequent orders and have rarely had a bad go with them. read more

The quantity and quality of food provided in this platter was more than enough and the flavors are bursting. They provided plenty of chopped chicken blanketed by a mixture of white and hot sauce. There was also a small side salad mixed with olives, cucumber, and jalapeños. They also did a great job of packing the dish for delivery. For the larger platter they ensured to wrap the platter with another layer of plastic wrap so the juices from the sauces won't leak out onto the rest of the bag. I ordered the lamb gyro platter and my bf ordered the chicken gyro platter. The meat was tender and juicy but the flavor was just okay - not great, but certainly not awful either. Vegetables were okay enough too - crispy cabbage slaw (nice) and such. The "white sauce" was horrible! First, I was expecting a traditional yogurt sauce with herbs and cucumber, but instead this was mayonnaise with some dried herbs in it. No tang. Just oily. To make sure, I asked what the sauce was, and sure enough it was mayo. I was looking for something with really good bright flavors and this was just mediocre. Since there are so many ordinary gyros places around here I decided to try Gyro Cafe after reading the positive reviews. This is a Halal middle eastern restaurant. I ordered the lamb gyro sandwich. As I saw the guy cut open the pita I knew what was coming. They stuff the bottom with the veggies first, then add the meat, etc. My guess is because it keeps the bottom from falling apart from juices. The meat was pretty good, the sauce was 'eh. As someone that grew up in Kensington and surrounded by halal food. I went through the years of different halal chicken over rice in the area. Gyro king used to be good few years ago and quality has gone down since, gyro hut is a bit better. Gyro cafe I recently tried out during covid19 and wow it's now the top halal chicken rice spot in the area possibly one of the top in NYC. Everyone knows of halal guys but Kensington's halal chicken puts them to shame. So if you're ever thinking about driving all the way into manhattan to eat halal guys think again and get it from this spot. By far one of the freshest chicken you can get. What I love about gyro cafe is that they slice the meat off the chicken gyro and then put it onto the grill. (Very few places do this by the way) a lot of places like to put the meat into a metal tin and then recook the chicken on the grill leaving the freshness to be questioned. read more

It was just chick peas over rice which match my side dish of literally chick peas over rice. Both dishes looked the same but one was $3 more. I didn't get the dish at all described on the menu.
