I used to come here at least once a week and won't anymore due to a discourteous employee. He's short, older, and heavyset with a bald head and hair on the sides. Customers at this location cut in line constantly, so you have to be a bit vigilant when you're waiting. I'd moved closer to the counter and realized I might have stepped in front of someone myself. I confirmed that this person was still waiting to order (he was), so when they asked who was next, I made sure to defer to him. After that customer walked off, I was next in line. Instead of taking my order, the above employee began SCREAMING at me for cutting in line. I tried to explain the situation several times, but he just continued shouting over me. He kept ordering me to go to the back of the line, but I was the only person in the line! It was humiliating to be treated this way and screamed at publicly. Worse, my sister had died recently, and I was just trying to keep a low profile and mind my own business while I was mourning. I'd never go back to Gyro King, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Gyro Hut is just two blocks south and their food is just as good and costs the exact same, plus they have an actual line system that makes sense and the employees are MUCH more pleasant to deal with. read more

Paid 50cents for each sauce which was probably because I ordered thru an app, because inside it looked like people placing orders there were getting the sauce at no charge. We thought it was expensive for 8$ at first, but when we saw the portion we realized it was a great deal. And lamb chops, and chicken kabob separately. The real star is the chicken over rice. It's way better than the halal guys or any other halal cart and about 1.5x the size! They have a huge salad bar where you can pick what you want along with whatever option you get. I always get cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, pickelled peppers, and lettuce. It makes it seem like a much bigger meal because of the huge portion of salad. The grilled combo is really good! The lamb chops are super tasty and chicken kabob is just amazing. I know halal is supposed to be a thing, but it hasn't taken yet for me. Not for lack of wanting. But I guess other temptations just took priority. This is all to say that when hubby called recently to let me know he'd decided to stop at a halal spot on the way home to pick up dinner, I did a little happy jig inside my head. Please note, that aside from an experience with a random Midtown cart ages ago, I am clueless when it comes to halal food and what to expect: Lamb & Salad: Now for all I know this is typical, but this consisted of thickly sliced Gyro meat. I expected cubes of lamb like with a shish kabab, but as I said, what do I know? It wasn't terrible, but the so-called Salad... It was hacked into random, jagged pieces, as if a six-year old got hold of a knife and went to town. It didn't exactly look fresh either. Chicken & Salad: Chicken component was okay, but again, not the shish-like cubes I'd expected. It was tender though, and nicely seasoned, but shredded thickly. Salad was as scary as described above. Chicken Tikka: This one had lots of potential, but the meat was dry. Rice was delicious, though, and imho, the best tasting thing we tried. As for vibe and ambiance, as it were, since hubby was on his own, am going to have to defer to him on this: "The place was very chaotic and packed with people, especially cab drivers. I'm pretty sure they gave the best meat and other ingredients to their regulars and I got stuck with the scraps." Based on the meal we ultimately wound up with, hubby may be on to something there. For my next halal experience, am thinking I'll stick with just meat and rice, and skip the salad altogether. It doesn't keep well as leftovers and it was so sketchy at this place, am not sure it's worth risking again. Bottom line: I have zero desire to ever return to this spot. Ever. Very UNHYGIENIC. No one was wearing gloves. Only the man handling the chicken was and it did not appear that he was changing them at all. I ordered a falafel platter and watched staff use his bare hands to make the falafel ball and proceed to handle cash. The man who was handling the salad bar was also gloveless and sweating profusely. I think my first 'real' halal food experience was from this place. Been here multiple times and I always order the same thing: lamb over rice with salad (usually tomatoes and cucumbers). Amazing! There are only a few ways I would eat lamb and this is one of them. I like getting my lamb fix every week (ideally, haha). Short review, but this place is bomb! I got the chicken and rice plate and it was seriously a flavor explosion! It was way better Halal guys and way more authentic! This place is very well managed and organized and they have diverse choices on the menu and they refill anything that is almost going to be empty for example their salad service stations. I love their CHAPLI KEBAB GYRO ordered that with EXTRA WHITE SAUCE plus 2 CHAPLI KEBABS by themselves. They charged me $13 for everything I guess the extra white sauce cost me $1 but other than that the quality and taste of the food was excellent.
