Lamb Gyro Platter and Chicken Gyro Platter
Heidi M.

Whenever I get free DoorDash credits, I try to order from somewhere that will give me the biggest bang for my buck. Call me frugal but with my $25, I was able to order 5 different things from here! And that, my friends, is what I call a win. Gyro Cafe is a really solid spot for your classic, affordable halal cart-style chicken over rice platter ($9.75). Generous portion, filling and overall very yummy. My bf had the lamb gyro platter ($9.75) which was just okay - the texture reminded us of mystery meat. We would've preferred it in smaller portions, perhaps in a mixed plate with other proteins. We also tried a couple of kebabs - the kofta ($1.50) and chapli ($3) - which were also okay but I'd personally skip next time. I'd just stick to the basics: chicken gyro platter or mixed platter and perhaps their namesake, a gyro (pita sandwich)! And if anyone was wondering, I got an Arizona iced tea with my last dollar. It was a well-balanced New York meal.

My office has ordered from here a couple of times and they're a great choice for halal platters. I usually always get their mixed plates. The meat that it comes with tastes very fresh and is flavorful. The rice on the side is fragrant. Additionally, the salad it comes with has a nice mix of veggies and is very fresh. My main complaint is that I wish there was more meat and rice than salad since the former would be more filling. However, the portions that come with each order are huge. I can usually split one platter between two meals. All in all, a solid lunch choice.

A hot ass mess. Exactly how it came. Does this look appetizing to you? 13.75 for this.

One thing I can't stand when it comes to food establishments? Negligence and carelessness. If you're not going to prepare someone's food with the same care and respect you would want from someone preparing YOUR FOOD, then you shouldn't own a restaurant or any type of business for that matter. This place was my go to and then I started ordering less and less because they got sloppy and started to ignore special instructions/requests. Not to mention I also realized that their prices didnt make that much sense compared to other spots in the area with better service and portions. However, I really did enjoy their lamb and so I decided to order from them tonight. I placed the order 30 minutes ahead of their closing time on Doordash which was 12:30. Their official closing time is at 1. When it comes to halal in general, my only request EVER has always been that the meat be chopped up very small. I have a pet peeve with large chunks of lamb or chicken, especially cause it's usually dark meat. I also get my sauce on the side. That way I can heat it up in the oven without it getting soggy. My order arrived in a plastic grocery bag that wasn't even properly sealed or wrapped. The aluminum container could've been accessed by anybody and tbh I would'nt be surprised if it was with the way that it looked. The white sauce was spilled all in the bag. And the biggest let down? It literally looked like they didn't even bother to put any type of effort into my order at all. I have never seen pieces of chicken that big in a halal platter in all my years of living. It looked thrown together or worse, like someone had their hands all up in my food. No way for me to know though so it went in the garbage. I even tried calling them to let them know and they sent me to voicemail. So to be frank, fuck this place.

This is the spot. Fresh lamb and chicken shaved in front of you. A FULL salad bar that is immensely fresh. Don't forget about their menu that is extensive - veggie options. The best in BK.

This was my first time ordering from this restaurant and I was quite satisfied with my gyro sandwich. It was quite tasty. The meat seasoned well and very tender. I loved the white sauce as well. My only complaint is that I requested additional sauce on the side but it wasn't in the bag. Oh there were no napkins or utensils either. Overall it was a good experience and I'll be ordering again.

I have never been to the famed "Halal Guys" food cart in Manhattan. But we stumbled into this place around midnight as it was one of the few places open and still serving food... Oh man... I don't know how good the OG Halal Guys food cart can be, but I can't imagine it being any better than this chicken plate I got at Gyro Cafe. It was one of the best meals I've had during my trip to new york. maybe my whole life... Now where can I get me some halal food back in Oakland?? I've been to a sanitized "Halal Guys" chain location somewhere in southern california, but that does not light a candle to the plate of chicken and aromatically seasoned rice I got at Gyro Cafe... Someone please help me!

Happy with my order. Very fast delivery. Some of the food was spicy which is a plus. Would have been 5 stars if the sauce was good. Very watery and mayo based...I don't know what the red sauce was it was horrible, glad I tasted it before I put it on my food. Will order again

Chicken over rice. White sauce overload.

The quality of their food has always been top notch and honestly is my favorite spot for a Turkish meal. Their hummus and basically all their skewers, kababs and grilled meats are simply amazing. Fast forward, I haven't gone to Taci's Beyti for over a year and I just recently went for our anniversary dinner over the weekend. Place still felt the same, so I ordered my hummus, mixed grill and the chicken kebab for the misses. When The entrees arrived, I was a bit disappointed. They seem to have changed what use to come with their main entrees. Gone is the bed of thinly sliced onions under your meats, so is the roasted pepper and also the roasted tomato. Three items I actually enjoyed having with my entree. They also changed the pita under the meats as well but they replaced it with a very sad salad instead, with no dressing or even a vinaigrette at that. Just plain dry leaves with some red onions. They also have two prices now, one for cash and one for credit, the cost has gone up (which I understand) but they've also cut the portions and what use to come with it. Yes the food is still good but after that last trip I am rethinking about ever going back. I am disappointed that either through choice, greed, or whatever they decided to cut back. Time to scout and try some other Turkish restaurants in the boroughs I suppose, and no I am not leaving a one star review, their food quality and taste hasn't changed. I am just very disappointed.

No meat in mine but the folks who had meat liked theirs. The only person who wasn't tripping over themselves with joy had ordered a simple lamb plate. Oh. And on the cold night? The warm beverage which had, not kidding, ground orchid bulbs?!- it was so good I'm going to try to find it on the west coast. The place was pretty crazy busy but the very welcoming host(who was also the server) asked the bus person to set up a table upstairs. Before that happened we had a table. This is a nod to "Sephardic" Jews, from the Hebrew word for the Iberian Peninsula (by definition, Spain and Portugal; after "expulsion," this came to include a diaspora more broadly northern African. What doesn't confuse me, though, is how ridiculously delicious and authentic everything they prepare is. Upon stepping in, you're greeted by a fairly timid mom and pop setting. Four small tables, a sink, a small counter, and walls decadently decorated with paintings and mementos of Uzbekistan. The workers are down to Earth and get straight to the point. No time for chit chat when you have a thriving business to run. - Samsa: We were told by family friends that Two Way has the absolute best samsa in all of Brooklyn. While that's a bold statement, they are definitely up in my top rankings. The crust is of perfect thickness and flakiness. Inside, you are greeted my a monstrous amount of lamb, onions, and delectable lard. Juices flow out like the nectar of the Uzbek gods. What makes their samsa so special is that they have a legit tandoor in the back. It's not the same as what you might find in a Tashkent street market, but its very close. - Shurpa: A tomato based soup of lamb, potatoes, and other vegetables. Wonderfully prepared and full of that distinct aroma that shurpa is known for. One of the best I've had. Most patrons you will see here are locals.
