The Park Slope CSA is the second CSA I have been a member of in Brooklyn and I love it! It's…read moreconvenient to where I live, which helps, but it's also seems to be the most affordable CSA in the neighborhood (~$23 week for a veggie share). This CSA partners with Windflower Farm. They are a small, organic farm in upstate NY and offer veggie, fruit, flower, and egg shares plus lots of yummy add ons from Lewis Waite Farms. The season runs for 22 weeks, from mid-June to early November. You pick up your share on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings at the Garden of Union in Park Slope, which is right of the R train. If you can't make it one week you can rest easy knowing the extras have been donated to a soup kitchen. I've been a member for four seasons and have loved the wide selection of veggies. There's always a solid selection of greens, amazing tomatoes in the late summer, and delicious sweet corn. Our farmer also sends potted herbs in the beginning of the season, which is awesome! We've had a full share in the past, but find that it is a lot of veggies for two people so are trying a half share this year. We've also had fruit and flower shares which have been great too! But my favorite is the egg share. You just can't beat farm fresh eggs! If you live in Park Slope or nearby neighborhoods, I highly recommend joining the Park Slope CSA!

Awesome CSA. I…read moredecided to join a CSA because I wanted to eat better (I may or may not have recently dined on a packet of Ramen and Kimchi leftovers cause they were next to each other on the counter... but hey!) and expand my (very limited) cooking repertoire (see last statement). Plus, I was bored with my current healthy options. Enter Farmer Ted and the Park Slope CSA. I know there are several great CSAs in Brooklyn; I chose Park Slope CSA because of the incredibly convenient pick-up locations right of the R Train on Union Street (by Dinosaur BBQ but don't be tempted), the price (about $23 a week), and the flexibility (you have 3 hours to pick up your order on Tuesday or Thursdays or arrange for a friend/roommate to get it). I couldn't be happier with my decision. Last year I made about 90% of all my meals with food from the CSA and was delighted to fill my bag with varied veggies (broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, butternut squash, cabbage, carrots...) and a bag of fruit ( apples, peaches, plums). There is a list of the CSA website for you to take a look. Yummmm.... so excited! I'm a bad cook but even I have been able to make new, flavorful, fun dishes with my snazzy produce, and I can't wait to try more. Plus, the CSA has weekly or bi weekly emails that include updates and recipes. Sold.

If you're against the way they prepare the meats or even as little as the smell here, then you simply don't have to walk in. Those who come KNOW what they come for and that's why this establishment exists. Now on to the review. There's not many live/fresh poultry markets around anymore that still take pride in their quality and service of what they sell. I know that poultry markets aren't everyone's "cup of tea" or their preferred method of buying chicken or other meats to cook, BUT there are still many that appreciate the fresh meats and this is just solely speaking for those who do eat meat of course. HK Live Poultry has been a long standing business with loyal customers for YEARS and there's a reason for this. From the kind and generous owner to the hard working employees in this establishment, everything you get here is what you expect to get here. That being said, you get great quality meats that are ordered daily and great prices at that. I can't say enough good things about this poultry spot and I will be forever coming back all the way from Queens!

If you don't eat as many vegetables as me, and it's just one person, I'd recommend the small share or you'll have a very full fridge before you're able to use everything. Also, nice little bonus for environmentalists and people who try to limit food waste, any food left over from the pick-up gets donated to the food shelter at the location where distribution is. They also have a composting bin that you can compost things from home or the parts of your produce you maybe don't want... *ahem* radish leaves *ahem*. Anyway, it's a good CSA!

It's from Hepworth Farms in NY, which is organic. For whatever reason, the tomatoes were almost always rotten, and other produce went bad much faster than what their counterparts at Whole Foods. In fact, I saw tomatoes on sale at Whole Foods from the same exact farm, and they looked much better. Does Hepworth give the CSA the bottom of the barrel? The shares had very little variation. I frequently found myself at the supermarket buying different vegetables. Also, half shares were not truly half shares - almost every week the full share got veggies not included in the half share. Very frustrating. I cannot stress this enough, there were so many obnoxious emails! In addition to the always-late weekly update, expect non-stop emails harassing you to volunteer. If more volunteers are needed, they should require more than the 2 or 3 days stated, instead of pathetically begging everyone all the time.

Well, I can definitely vouch for their gorgeously spacious Brooklyn Grange Farm + Farmstand located in Sunset Park that I visited recently. Although they have a nicely visible sign pointing to the direction of the rooftop farm, it took me a couple of twists and turns before finding tthe right building, locating the corner elevator, pressing the button to get to the rooftop and arriving to the sliding doors to get to the actual farm -lol. Complete awe came over me as I stepped outside..... So many words can be used to describe Brooklyn Grange Farm in Sunset Park but I will just simply sum it up by saying that it is spectacular! Ok, so I have to add a bit more...lol. Yes, it is spacious as I stated earlier in this review and has such a calming armosphere, etc.. Rows and various areas of wonderfully wonderful rich soil, growing greenery, robustly colorful vegetables, herbs + flowers, beautiful butterflies flying around...All of that and so much more was present at this rooftop farm overlooking sensational scenic views. Just taking so many deep breaths to inhale glorious fresh air while walking slowly around the farm to take in everything made me feel extremely grateful + blessed. Friendly, hardworking staff were kind enough to greet me as they tended to the farm as well as to the farmstand where produce grown is available for purchase. There was an array of peppers, herbs, greens and even carrots. Happily, I bought some mixed salad greens which tasted delicious. Brooklyn Grange Farm + Farmstand works w/ non-profit + CBO's (Community Based Organizations) to provide resources/services including environmental/farming education. It is outstanding to have Brooklyn Grange Farm create organically grown produce to communities which helps foster, maintain and sustain healthy eating/nutrition + well-being. The quality of their food has always been top notch and honestly is my favorite spot for a Turkish meal. Their hummus and basically all their skewers, kababs and grilled meats are simply amazing. Fast forward, I haven't gone to Taci's Beyti for over a year and I just recently went for our anniversary dinner over the weekend. Place still felt the same, so I ordered my hummus, mixed grill and the chicken kebab for the misses. When The entrees arrived, I was a bit disappointed. They seem to have changed what use to come with their main entrees. Gone is the bed of thinly sliced onions under your meats, so is the roasted pepper and also the roasted tomato. Three items I actually enjoyed having with my entree. They also changed the pita under the meats as well but they replaced it with a very sad salad instead, with no dressing or even a vinaigrette at that. Just plain dry leaves with some red onions. They also have two prices now, one for cash and one for credit, the cost has gone up (which I understand) but they've also cut the portions and what use to come with it. Yes the food is still good but after that last trip I am rethinking about ever going back. I am disappointed that either through choice, greed, or whatever they decided to cut back. Time to scout and try some other Turkish restaurants in the boroughs I suppose, and no I am not leaving a one star review, their food quality and taste hasn't changed. I am just very disappointed.
