Here's a review from a Syrian guy, that was born in AlSham(Damascus that is): I live in the south, so Middle Eastern food is rare to find, and specifically Shawarma! And most times when you find shawarma in the US it never tastes the same, like it's doesn't come to a 5% of how close to it. NOW this place, OMFG, The staff is beyond kind and wonderful and sweet, and they ll speak Arabic to you if you do (which was my 1st hug to my soul) 2nd there shawarma, without a doubt the best one in the US, like i legit almost cried while eating that. The hummus was phenomenal, also haven't had such a good hummus since back home (Sabra brand can fuck off) And the Kebbeh, bro i saw باب توما و بال شرقي و باب الجابيه with every bite. Ambiance wise, was great, honestly don't remember much, was too consumed with the food. Strongly considering moving to NY so i can eat there every single fucking day. شكراًًًًً

I visited Shawarma Al-Sham this week while in the area. Bay Ridge is well know for several great middle eastern restaurants and food trucks I went with my standard falafel sandwich and unfortunately it fell short The sandwich was dry although the falafel was fried fresh. The sandwich was more of a wrap with a small amount of falafel some tomato and very little tahini. The pickled vegetables on the side was a nice touch. The staff was very kind but I cannot say I would go back.

My bill with the salad that never came.

I've been here about 7 times since they opened about 6 months ago. This is only the second time I sat down to eat in the restaurant. I want to preface this review by saying I had a long conversation with the owner when I left. There were 27 reviews prior to mine, 7 are 3 star or less. There are also 1 and 2 star reviews as well. If they want to stay in business they need to not only read the reviews, they need to change. "Customer Perception is Reality". I want to be fair, I told the owner Mohammed I'm telling you these things to help you not hurt you. The common problem or perception is they are not professional, there is poor service and sometimes perceived as rude. The bad reviews show the customers are hostile against the restaurant. That means they won't only not go there, they will bad mouth the place. As an owner you need repeat customers and new customers. The only way to do that is to listen and change. One response I saw was an excuse that they are busy. Let me help. PRO'S: The food I had was a 5. Great tasting food, the flavor of the shawarma sandwiches is what is keeping them above water. Convenient location. Digital signage. CON'S: LONG WAIT TIME FOR FOOD. Add more staff if 6 or 7 people are not enough then add more whatever it takes. SUGGESTION! Get rid of your sit down tables! Mohammed said they are not set up to wait on tables. Put a counter with bar stools and convert the rest of the space to a waiting area or prep space. Service is horrible, the table I sat down to was not clean, when I asked them to clean it nobody came. I had to ask someone who turned out to be the owner. On top of that I ordered two sandwiches and a Fatoush salad. After 20 minutes the sandwiches came and there was no salad. The guy said he would bring it although it never came. I went to the counter to get a refund. Disappointing as I really wanted the salad. Staff is too rushed. The cooks are running around and there was one women taking the orders and payment. She took zero initiative to help in any way. Clean the tables, refill the plastic utensils( I had to ask for them). DO SOMETHING! This type of behavior is repeated in all the negative reviews. Finally.... THEY ONLY TAKE CASH??? Really??? Who carries cash today??? Or... what are the hiding??? In conclusion..... 1. They need to have outstanding service to compliment the food. One does not work without the other. I can go to a dozen other places in the neighborhood with better service and comparable food. 2. would only order take out and order 30 minutes ahead. 3. The owner should have considered opening a food truck and saving overhead. If you are going to have a store front you need to not neglect your sit down customers.

We were roaming on 5th Ave and came across a line and decided to give it a try. We ordered the chicken gyro wrap and a side of falafel. The falafel was made fresh to order and for a side dish this was seemed more like an entree. It came with pickled veggies and leafy greens. The falafel was unfortunately bland and dry but at least crispy and a good portion size. On the other hand, the chicken was mind blowing. It was so flavorful, moist and well rounded. There was a generous amount of protein, veggies and a thin layer of carbs. This is definitely a bang for your buck. I understand why everyone ordered so many of these. It's similar to how you can't just order one white castle burger. The service was fast.

This place has been around for like 20 years I think and I've been wanting to try it. Did not disappoint! Soon as you walk in, you're greeted-- could be by manager, server or even a patron!-- and welcomed to sit wherever you'd like (IF space is available). Menus are brought to you and you're promptly served a large flat bread, their signify soup (which I thought was lentil, but I may be wrong) and some salsa. And a couple lemon wedges. Pro-tip: eat with an open heart - squeeze the lemon in the soup to brighten it up, go ahead and dip the pita in the salsa, drink the soup right out of the bowl-- there aren't the "rules" of traditional western dining here. We ordered the chicken haneeth but asked for no rice, shish kabob, hummus and babaghanoush. The chicken was perfect- flavorful, not too tangy, and the meat was tender. By itself, I enjoyed the hummus more (between the two dips) but once we started eating with the entrees, I thought the babaganoush really came to life. We also squeezed some lemon on the dips to brighten them up. Yemeni hummus is more tahini-rich than some other variations, which I finds benefits from some lemon splash. Of course they gave us more pita when our mains arrived :) The manager was a really nice man! We felt welcomed and our business valued-- really was one of my favorite things about the restaurant. You can grab some traditional sweet tea at the counter after your meal.
