Bibimbap bingsoo $18
Celina L.

Came here at like 2:30p on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all. Loves the basketball theme going on. My friend specifically wanted to get this bibimbap bingsoo, which is usually only served at dinner but the waitress was super nice and told us that they can make it for us. Presentation is incredible! I was so impressed at how unique it looked and the taste. Just the mochi was super off, tasted like dry chewy rice cake but not a good tasting kind

We used to go to Midam in Richmond but unfortunately that place was closed. This is the first time after three years I come back to Midam Coquitlam location. The basketball vibe is still the same. And of course their foods are amazing. Our waitress is such a sweet heart. We ordered soft tofu seafood soup served with purple rice and beef bowl. The beef bowl portion is generously full of stir fried beef. For dessert, I choose matcha parfait and matcha ice blended. Please get those two when you come here because it is soooo gooood!!! Everything is perfect but keep in mind the waiting after you order is kinda long. Plus the place is right next to Hannam so why not a grocery run then go here for dinner?

Spicy BBQ Squid and Pork Box (13.00)

**Pre Covid19 Review** I was in the area checking out all of the nifty renovations being done to Lougheed Town Centre when dinner time came rolling around. I had rarely checked out the plethora of Korean restaurants to be tried in the North Road area so I gave Midam a try and boy was it worth it! My dining companion tried the Spicy BBQ Squid and Pork Belly Box (13.00). The tentacles had a nice BBQ flavour to them with a nice chew without being overcooked and rubbery. The pork also had a nice BBQ flavour and both the squid and the pork had a slow burn to them. Mixed in with the pork and the squid are Midam's homemade soft rice cakes. I had the Pan Fried Pork Belly (13.00) box. The pork had some crispy bits mixed in with the melt in your mouth fatty parts. These were not only juicy but oh so well seasoned! Both boxes came with a side of kimchi, preserved jalapenos, and some salad. Service is pretty good here and the food comes out lightning fast. If you're a fan of basketball, you'll love all of the NBA memorabilia scattered all around you.

Bulgogi set ($13)

Given the current circumstances these days, food delivery has become the option for when you don't feel like cooking. If you're looking for some local korean options near Lougheed, Midam Cafe has some great box set options! All of their box sets come with some type of meat/seafood, kimchi, house salad and rice. When I was in the restaurant (a while ago), I ordered the Bulgogi Set ($13). The meat was tender and had great flavour. The rice was the traditional purple multigrain rice. The salad was refreshing and the kimchi had a good kick. If you're looking for a balanced meal that is still quite nutritious, give these sets a try!

Midam is easily one of the best places for late night food and dessert in Coquitlam. I've been coming here for years and have never gotten tired. The interior is rather spacious and I never have a problem getting a seat. The tables have call buttons and servers are great with responding almost immediately. Happy hour deals are awesome, because my favourite dishes are basically the whole happy hour menu. The $10 dishes are very good for sharing and you'd be full with one order per person. The hot pots are huge and shareable as well. For dessert the waffles and toasts here are very good- I'd recommend the sizzling matcha mochi toast. I've gotten the koreano to drink and it has been fantastic as well. All in all a fantastic place to hang out casually with a group of people.

Colorful and tasty! Bulgogi Box.

Hello, my name is Sunshine M and I am addicted to Kim Chi. You know what that little old lady says about Frank's Hot Sauce, that she"puts that sh*t on everything"? That's how I am with kimchi. So, I was curious when skipthedishes added Midam Rice Cake House to the joints that deliver to my area. The food arrived hot and well packaged. The deep fried boneless chicken is a dish I will revisit for sure. The innards are tender and flavorful, the breading is not overly oily and has a nice kick to it. The bulgogi was not the best I have ever had, but was tasty and had pleasing accompaniments. The kimchi fried rice with bacon and fried egg on top = as excellent as that sounds. Ditto the sweet corn with butter and cheese. Look forward to sampling more!

So we had spicy fried chicken, congee, kimchi jigae, and tofu kimchi jigae Other than the congee, everything else was missing something and lacking in flavor. The chicken tasted like spicy ketchup. My friend had asked for the kimchi jigae to not be so spicy and they gave him a bland but spicy soup. We took back both soups and they came back a little better but not quite good. I think people come here for rice cakes, shaved ice desserts, and to drink and not for the actual food Unless I'm sick and want conjee, I would not come back for the food. Desserts were good last time I came

Midam Rice Cake House is one of the many Korean cafes in the busy mini mall located on the Burnaby/Coquitlam border of North Road. In fact, this area is often called "Koreatown" given the proliferation of Korean establishments in the area. Midam is a bit hidden - tucked away in the bottom corner of the mini mall, near the Hannam Supermarket. Walking inside this restaurant, you couldn't be blamed for thinking that you've walked into a sports bar given the overwhelming about of basketball paraphernalia adorning the walls. During my visit, the interior was rather dark because they didn't turn on all of the lights. I wound up ordering the Marinated Beef Rib Patty Wrapped in Rice Cake Set ($13) and the Green Tea Milk Shake ($5) despite this place probably being better known for their bingsoo dishes (ie. Korean shaved ice desserts). It took quite a while for my food to come out (I think they didn't have enough people working at the time). My shake was the first to arrive (about 10 minutes after I ordered it). Topped with whipped cream with green tea powder sprinkled on top, the shake was actually quite refreshing and light but lacked discernible green tea flavour. My set meal came with miso soup, a basic yet crisp salad with a slightly tart vinaigrette, pickled radish kimchi, slightly pinkish and fluffy rice, and some type of appy made of beans. The beef rib was ground up and had a consistency similar to a meat patty and then covered with a thin green rice cake wrapper and served on top of shredded cabbage. Although the filling wasn't too flavourful by itself, there was some sauce underneath that helped. I came back for a revisit the following month and ordered their Spicy Squid and Pork Belly Set ($13) along with a Persimmon Shake ($7). While the lights were turned on during this visit, there's still not a lot of natural light getting in here. I found that the pork belly was a bit on the chewy side due to the fat not rendering enough but the squid was nice and tender. The pork and squid comes mixed with shredded cabbage, onions, and some inch-long rice cake logs. The music selection here changes (probably based on who's working)... I've heard both regular K-pop as well as more western-like pop songs.

First time trying their food usually would come here for desserts. Came here on a weekday and pretty busy it is definitely a place to drink and eat the ambience can be a bit loud. The interior of this place is basketball inspired. If you are a fan Of NBA you're in great luck! Even have a basketball hoop in the restaurant!

Bibimbap: Make sure to mix all of it up with your chopsticks before eating!

If you're looking for a place for a drink (and some tasty food to go with it), or you just want to hang out and eat with friends after work then this may be a good place for you. I came here with four friends in the evening, and we found a tight but comfortable table. I ordered the $12 bibimbap, which came shortly after a bit of conversation. My friends ordered the Japanese pork cutlets with a separate bowl of rice, which looked crispy and fresh from the fryer. I mixed my bibimbap and it was quite good! I have had the bibimbap in a stone bowl before, but the one in a normal bowl is also good. I also want to mention that the rice was very tasty and purple. I don't know exactly why it was purple, but everyone's was, so perhaps with was due to red bean (or something ) mixed in with the rice? I got the one for $12, but there were $11 and $13 alternatives, the latter which has a stone bowl. The service was decent as they were quite busy, but as long as we made eye contact and waved them down they took care of our orders quickly. The restaurant had clean washrooms, a cozy and causal ambiance, and a noise level that was neither too loud nor too soft. As for why I only gave 4 stars, my criterion is whether I would go there by myself, which I wouldn't. I would go there again with my friends.

After dinner in the area, we decided we needed some sweets and coffee. Unlucky us the place we decide to go was close at that time, beside it this place was open so we decided to check it out. The place was packed, most of the crowd in there were drinking and we have to wait for 15min for our group to be seated. As we were trying to decide which ones to order our server came to check on us couple of times and through those times she was pretty agitated and impatient with my coworkers questions (well sorry some of them are not familiar with asian desserts nor haven't tried them yet!) we also understand that they where busy that night but obviously they should have more staffs on those days not understaffed. While our first orders came, I realize the bingsoo that I ordered just came with a regular shaved iced! And it's additional to have it on milk shaved ice! Too bad I ordered the biggest size so I can share it! We have to dig to the bottom we're the syrup was and take out the middle since it doesn't have any taste. The the waffle dessert that they have was standard could be much better. The place was decent, nicely decorated with basketball memorabilia's. Maybe I would come here for some drinks since there open until 1am. But for desert I'll go and check out other places.

Midam Cafe is a korean restaurant and cafe right outisde of the Lougheed Skytrain station. I loved their korean food options for lunch and, also their ricecake toast! The sticky rice cake inside of the toast is soft and chewy, and matched perfectly with the sweetness from the maple syrup. It comes in a perfect size to share between 2-4 people too! If you like korean shaved ice, they also have different flavours of it too. We got the black sesame flavour one and it was really good as well~ comes with a big scoop of sesame icecream on top

Yummy desserts! Different than any other shaved ice cream places. Rich, soft, and yummy!

Service was pretty quick when I visited, wasn't too busy with about three other tables of diners. Food-wise: their prices and portions are quite reasonable but I have yet to discover my favorite menu item or their best dishes as taste for bulgogi was just okay. Overall, their weekday lunch special is good value. Though their food on my first visit wasn't especially memorable, their spacious interior + modern ambience + efficient service + good value and free parking brings them up from 3.5 stars to a 4 stars rating since this is a place I would definitely consider visiting again to try other dishes. And I am hopeful about finding items to my liking because they offer a fairly diverse food and drinks menu.

There is a bell on the table if you need attention from the servers, and they are usually pretty efficient and fast when it is rung. We saw that there was a $9.99 combo deal and everyone at our table was shocked. We all ordered that. The combo comes with your choice of a noodle dish (Jajangmyeon or Black Bean noodles, Korean udon, or Spicy Cold noodles) and a Beef Bulgogi on the side. I ordered the Jajangmyeon with the Beef Bulgogi and it was great! I enjoyed the nice chew from the noodles and the Black Bean sauce was flavoured well. I was pleased to find chunks of pork in the noodles also. The Beef Bulgogi was a little watery, but tasted sweet and tender. All that food for $9.99. That's unheard of in this economy and in these times! Amazing. We'll definitely return as we saw other great deals on the menu also!

I dont really like jambong, so I'm super glad 88 noodle house lets you choose 2 jjajangmyeon! Perfect combo. For the meat dish, you can get tangsuyuk or gganpunggi. We chose the gganpunggi (sweet chili chicken). Jjajangmyeon was ok. Nothing too special about it. Good portions. The gganpunggi was also a good portion! However, I found that it was mostly batter, and since they use a mix of tapioca starch and other as breading, it gets jello-y when not completely cooked. The flavor was really good, but I was disappointed with the batter to chicken ratio. I will continue my search for this type of combo!

This time we got the sweet chili chicken. Flavour is good and comes piping hot and crispy. However, I did find the breading a bit heavy and there is a lot of fat in the layers. Same goes for the sweet and sour pork. I love their coating and the flavour is great, but sometimes I just get a coated piece of fat which is a bit off-putting. We also like the japchae, but find it has a bit too much onion for us. Ok cold nights we like to get the 88 noodle soup. Hot, peppery, slightly spicy. Goes well with the pickles they give you. Service is always quick and polite. No issues there. And the seating is spacious with lots of booth seating.
