Our waiter was very social, and the food was incredible! I got the salmon and others in my family got the steak and scallops. All of us enjoyed our meals. I would definitely recommend making a reservation earlier if you have a specific time you would like to eat here. Celebrated my husband's birthday last night at Michael's St Augustine. What a stellar experience! We enjoyed a full bodied red blend, Chalk Hill Estate Red, that was delicious. The manchego cheese with dried cherries and marcona almonds was a sweet, salty, and crunchy starter! Then out came the seacuterie! What a beautiful plate! Clean and mildly briny Malpeque oysters, smoked salmon with caper berries and pickled red onions, octopus with an olive salsa, and white anchovies on toast. We split the green salad and wondered how we were going to be able to eat our steaks! I got the ribeye with the Oscar topping and my husband got the bone in filet with the blue cheese enhancement. For sides, we had the mousseline potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and the creamed greens. As always, our steaks were perfectly seasoned and prepared. We couldn't even think about dessert! Truly remarkable foodie experience! At first we had an Open Table reservation for 9:30 but was called to ask if we'd like an earlier reservation at 8:30 as there had been a cancellation. Perfect! I noted it was both mine and my husband's birthdays (you know, just in case). We opted to have a selection of many flavors. The house charcuterie was really good and my husband loved his pork chuletta but the all star of my meal was definitely the plantain bon bons (plantains sliced wrapped in bacon). As a birthday surprise, our dessert (key lime pie) was comped. Highlights besides the complimentary dessert and plantains were the incredibly friendly hostess, sweet server named Taylor who wished us happy birthday, and Chef Marshall who personally came out to introduce himself. Scallop entree: A+. Scallops were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Just close your eyes and let them melt in your mouth. Salmon poke tacos: A. Tasty, but these were tiny. One serving only has 2 tacos; there should be at least 3. Mushroom bruschetta: A+. We loved the touch of goat cheese, but this mighty appetizer only comes with 2 slender slivers of bread and lots of mushroom sauce. So we asked for more bread and the water made it happen. Garlic shrimp: B-, this starter has a lot of potential but the flavors were not balanced. We really wanted the salmon wellington, but they ran out of that. Individual Ratings (1-5) Atmosphere - 3. Located on one of the many interesting side streets, Michael's promotes itself as a romantic restaurant that is also a tapas restaurant. It is neither. The restaurant is very small and tables are jammed in a bit (despite what you might see on their website). The acoustics are horrible and so the dining area is very loud. Believing the the picture drawn by the restaurant's web site and promotional materials, we chose the restaurant for the celebration of my wife's birthday. My wife wore a nice dress and I wore a sport coat. Unfortunately, very few chose to dress any better than they might if they were going to dine at The Waffle House. Service - our server was as 5+, management was a 3. Our server's name was Sarah. If you dine there and can ask for or be fortunate to have her assigned to your table, be very thankful. Sarah was delightful and very attentive. We could not have asked for a better server. Management was a different story. When called to make a reservation I was asked if we were celebrating anything. To which I replied, yes, my wife's birthday. When I called a week prior to confirm our reservation, it was acknowledged and they indicated that they had a note about my wife's birthday. Unfortunately, not at any point in time was her birthday recognized in any manner whatsoever. Food - 5. I ordered a 14oz prime ribeye and my wife ordered an 8oz fillet mignon. Our sides were asparagus (delicious) and Mac N Cheese (average). My wife enjoyed her fillet and I absolutely loved my ribeye. It was not only delicious, it was the most tender ribeye that I have ever had in a restaurant! Overall - 4. This place could easily be a 5 if it would make the changes necessary to present a romantic setting and setting a minimal dress code standard. read more

We dined here while on vacation and had a wonderful time! There is parking off to the right side behind the restaurant (and other buildings) it was simple and easy to park and walk right in. Our waitress was helpful, friendly, and attentive. I informed her that I had Celiacs and she she worked with the Chef to find me the best gluten free options. Everything we had was absolutely delicious from the Gambas, the Ora King salmon, and to the steak. We were so happy to have found such a wonderful restaurant on our anniversary vacation to the area and I loved the decor and paintings in the restaurant. I will 100% be returning in the future. I loved that the food was delicious and locally farmed, simple in how it was made which made you leave just feeling like you had a really good clean Southern meal. My experience at Michael's was overall pretty great! Between the excellent service (thank you Joel from Kentucky!) and the high quality ingredients, I enjoyed it. The menu items were eclectic and creative. For apps, we ordered cast iron shrimp, creamed greens, octopus and oysters Rockefeller. Oysters were flavorful and finished off quickly by the table. Shrimp were ok and octopus too. I ordered a Caesar salad to start, but was kind of grossed out by it. The soft boiled egg and parmesan chip were a nice touch, but there was way too much dressing, and I never like getting whole romaine hearts at a restaurant that I have to chop myself. The creamed greens were my favorite thing we got, super yummy! For my entree I got the Baked Sweet Plantain "Canoas" stuffed with mushrooms, duck confit, shaved Parmesan, and served over foie gras crema. The dish was overpowered by the sweetness of the large plantain boat. The entire dish was totally sweet and I disliked that it lacked a salty/savory component. The duck confit was minimal. It basically was mushrooms in a big open plantain. My brother ordered the steak and fries which was quite nicely done and the fries are truffle so they automatically pass my test. We also got squid ink risotto which was good. Michael's is an upscale place known for their steak, which I should have gotten. Nonetheless we had a nice experience in their minimalistic art gallery looking dining room and would go back again to get steak, creamed greens and truffle fries. read more

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in NE Florida. My husband & I did our wedding reception here two years ago and our entire group couldn't stop raving about the food. We just came back this last weekend for a romantic dinner, and we were blown away again. Wine | They have a ton of wines and it was a bit overwhelming at first, but they have a sommelier in-house to help answer any questions. Appetizers |we started with the Michaels board which was AMAZING! They know how to do a good cheese board. We also had the beef tartare, which was good, but didn't knock my socks off. Entrees | I had the braised short ribs- meat was so tasty but the crispy mofongo had SO much garlic it was inedible. I would recommend to sub out for a different side like their Brussels or potatoes. The food was good but the service was horrible for me. I walked in and it was more than half empty. However, they decided to sit me outside, most likely because I was wearing casual clothing. Just black jeans and black shirt and nice shoes. Nothing weird. Well, the meal experience was very bad. I walked out with 9 mosquito bites and had to swat the big flies consistently. My arms were beet red. I had 9 mosquito bites on my arm and 2 on my ankle. I would think an expensive place like that would invest in some kind of pest control. They didn't sit anyone else outside. The servers kept walking by me with food back and forth and I felt like I was just in the back room. I have never been treated this bad in my life. I've traveled all over the country multiple times for work and pleasure and got to experience so many great places. I am a big foodie. The only reason for the 2 stars is because the food was decent. I had the mixed berry smash which was champagne and muddled berries. Perfect, light summer cocktail! We shared the Iberian Board to start. It came with 3 different cheeses and smoked meats. The smoked sausage was interesting. Not a big fan of the cheeses. For dinner I ordered Steak Frites which was a hanger steak and fries. I ordered rare- I would say it was more medium rare when it came out. We were too full to have dessert. I would give the food 3 stars but gave it an extra for the ambiance. read more

Prices are outlandish however, & on this night there was a loud, profanity laced act next door by some faction of the alphabet people that ruined the evening for us. We left after the shrimp apetizer which was o.k. but not a good value. For my money, Fish Camp or River & Fort have far better atmosphere, much better value, and fabulous, fresh menu choices.
