Perfect crust up top, sauce was delicious, not salty just super yummy. Noodles were wonderful. Lastly I got the sesame crusted tofu; it was perfect and had a crunch not soggy. It came on top of a bed of jasmine rice and onions. That was delicious. We ordered a creme brulee and I was happy they had coffee. Now for prices it was great! For food quality, portion size, only $75 with cash $78 with card. I love the cash method. We enjoyed a lovely dinner at The Purple Olive and would absolutely recommend it. Even without photos, the food left a great impression. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan and the 828 Stuffed Chicken, along with the Cranberry Gorgonzola Salad and a classic Caesar salad. Portions were very generous, and everything we tried was flavorful and well prepared. For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée, which was creamy and satisfying. The only small suggestion for improvement would be the garnish--ours came with two small pieces of diced pineapple, which felt a bit unexpected. We personally would have loved more traditional fruits like blueberries or strawberries. Overall, the atmosphere, food quality, and portion sizes made for a great dining experience. Next our to a pizza place and a Hurricanes grill, We went with the Ahi Tuna dinner with was tasty and fresh Also went with the Paella seafood with chicken and sausage. We used Purple Olive for our caterer for our wedding. Every single guest was raving about the food and appetizers, and the team did a wonderful job putting out the entrees and apps. Every time I turned around there was another tray of apps coming out, and it was all truly enjoyed by all of our guests. I went with my dad, mom and wife on a Saturday night around 630P. The dining room was pretty empty so I was a little nervous. We started with the Dip trip. It comes with romesco, tapenade and hummus. I liked them all. I don't think the ladies liked the tapenade so I finished most of it. I also had the Lobster bisque. It was light on the cream which I prefer. The lobster meat was minced and settle on the bottom so don't forget about it! I ordered the Dijon salmon. It was served over lightly sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes. The mustard sauce was excellent. I would definitely get it again. My dad got the Lamb lollipops. I think there were 4 lollis so it's not a huge serving but with the apps it was enough. I tried one. It was cooked perfectly. I thought there was a little too much glaze that masked the lamb flavor but it was still good. It was served with mint and green beans. My wife got the Garlic shrimp fettuccini. She said it's the best scampi-ish dish she's had in a while. They used shaved garlic instead of minced garlic which is a little different. My mom is pescatarian so that limits her options. She went with the Eggplant. It's served in a deep dish that is probably as big around as a softball. It doesn't look like much when they dropped it of but it's packed in there. I had a bite. It was basically an eggplant lasagna. It's one of those places that you have to pay for bread service. That seems to be more and more common so I guess I better get use to it. For dessert we got a crème brûlée and the Chocolate with grand mar cream. The desserts were the most underwhelming part of the meal. I'm not a big chocolate fan. The crust on the chocolate dessert wasn't very good. The crème brûlée was a little on the eggy side. It could have used a little more vanilla or maybe some additional toasted sugar on top. We live 30-40 minutes north but I think this is a place we liked enough to come back. read more

This is a very nice quiet restaurant. We've enjoyed visits on Saturday evenings after attending St. Anastasia services. Not a place for noisy children since tables are small. Located between Seafood Kitchen and Romano's pizza, parking can be "iffy" when live music is going on at the local bar in the strip mall. I've enjoyed lamb chops and my DC savored steak. Lively restaurant slightly out of downtown St Augustine (which was good for us!) It's not far out of town, just right over the bridge. We were happy to be out of the fray. Excellent food which was flavorful and expertly cooked. Unexpectedly large portions, which is rare for this caliber of restaurant. Both the salmon and the tofu dishes were wonderful. Any time we are in town we try to visit Purple Olive. It has been our family favorite for years. We always come with my mom and grandparents. The building is small, cozy, and upscale. It is fine dining and the food is terrific. It is one of those places where truly every single dish is phenomenal. That's the sign of a great chef and business model in my mind! We enjoy our experience here every time and cannot recommend it enough! I love the tofu and any of their seafood! On our recent visit we got a salad and appetizer both which we enjoyed. I was a big fan of the salad! For my entree I got the tofu which was delicious like always! We splurged on dessert (see the drool worthy picture) and it was a luxury we very much enjoyed. read more

We are here last night with friends, sat in bar area at a high top. Food was good! The door behind the bar, must be storage or something- kept slamming loud- they need something on the door to make it not slam. Chairs have no backs so had to hold my coat on lap and put our purses in window sill. Tables all had napkins shoved under to stop from rocking. Amazing meal! We just enjoyed a Sunday evening dinner for 2 before leaving the beach from our family beach trip & our dinner was so good! My husband had the Flounder special & I had the Sea Scallops and both were cooked to perfection. We splurged on a shared dessert - Chocolate Gateau and wow!!! We have been patrons of this restaurant since moving to St Johns county 15 years ago. Everything about their original location was excellent. I cannot report that of their new location. To start with parking is very limited of not almost impossible when they are busy. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. The table was so close to the first bar as you enter that our table chairs touched the bar chairs. Well okay as long as neither of us had to move. Tables are crammed in all areas; seating quantity now rules, not quality. The noise level was and is unacceptable. In order to be heard each of the 2 tables of six next to us had to shout making conversation at our small table impossible. Our server was very attentive and did a great job. Our food order was brought to us promptly. The magic and excellence of the food we received at their original location was missing; we agreed our meals were ok, but nothing special as we had come to expect of the Purple Olive. I doubt if we will return until some changes are made. read more

WOW! That's how my hubby and I felt after dining here for the first time last Saturday. Everything about our experience was awesome, from the hostess to the server to our food. Hubby and I are trying new restaurants this year and we chose Purple Olive for our most recent restaurant to try. We were warmly greeted by 2 women at the hostess stand and were promptly seated. We were then greeted by our server, Sharyl (sp?); she was awesome from start to finish. The food was awesome as well. We started with roasted olives and spanikopita with tzatziki sauce; both were delicious. Next was Argentinian shrimp soup with grilled bread on the side. The soup was very flavorful. I had the roasted butternut squash salad which included greens, toasted pecans, goat cheese and had a light lemon vinaigrette on the side; this salad was the best salad I've had in a long time! My entree was fresh caught snapper encrusted in pecan, panko, lemon and garlic. It was pan seared and finished with a grape and almond brown butter sauce served over jasmine rice and grilled zucchini and squash. I was pretty full after the first few courses so I ate 2 bites of my entree and brought the rest home (the leftovers were just as good as when they were first served). My hubby had the roasted airline chicken with Marsala sage jus; it came with roasted butternut squash, goat cheese and cranberry stuffing and mashed potatoes. We both loved his dish. We could truly taste the love in every dish we had! I can't believe this restaurant has been here 21 years, and this was our first time going. We loved it so much that we made a reservation to go there for my birthday next month. I'm looking forward to trying new dishes! read more

Only giving one star because the bartenders were great! Food was not so good....I had the 828chicken and it was so dried out and not stuffed as the menu explains. Hubby had the Korean short ribs and we swear it was pot roast with an "Asian twist". Menu said "wok vegetables" but it was steamed broccoli instead. They told us the kitchen was "backed up" but we're pretty convinced our meals were sitting under heat lamps for a bit, hence the cardboard chicken. Bar was nice, go for drinks and eat elsewhere! Went to new location and I won't return! We sat at the bar and I had to witness training 101 for the bartenders. Our food took 45 min to come and this was early before the place filled up. We order safe a filet mignon that came out undercooked and had an artery right in the middle of the meat. I had mahi mahi that was so dry!! The best part I had a glass of wine when the bill game I was charged for an entire bottle of wine! I kept my cool and ask for manager who was very fine and took the steak and wine off bill. We had dinner at the new Purple Olive location. First, we could not identify or find the designated handicap parking which was weird because it was still day light. I believe legally every business has to have a well marked designated spot or two. Any way, the food was delicious! The service and ambiance were atrocious. Not at all like their previous location. Very, very loud and hard to hear the person sitting across from you. Our server was either having a bad day or just didn't like us. Maybe both. She would abruptly leave us mid-sentence or half way through our ordering, attend to another table then come back to taking our orders with a scour on her face. Really not sure what was happening, but not at all the same high level of service we received at their former location. I'd be hesitant to return again, which is sad as I was a frequent diner at their last spot. We enjoyed our dinner. The place has been recently renovated and is adorable. We were disappointed when asked if we wanted bread(in past times it was complementary) and were charged 6$ plus a dollar for oil. If old policies change, don't ask if we want the item as though things are still the same. It was always bread, olives and oil came out before your meal. Also, the little salads appear to no longer be included as well. Overall, it's nice to have an option on the island with good food. read more
