The chicken skewers and beef skewers were very good! Substantial amount of meat and beautifully charred on a charcoal grill! The zucchini fries and Greek fries were soggy upon arrival of takeout. I wish they used better packaging to preserve the crispness. I ended up putting them in the air fryer to crisp them back up. Their Greek salad is full of feta cheese and really juicy tomatoes. We decided on some traditional sides and some casual lunch platters. -Grilled octopus was good with just enough of olive oil drizzle and charness. -Greek sausage was actually lamb basic. I found it a bit gamey which I don't mine. Was lean and flavorful. We decided on two platters: the lamb gyro and the chicken souvlaki. Each comes a choice of french fries, rice, or lemon potatoes. The lamb gyro is really good as its not greasy via the chicken souvlaki was a bit dry and bland. The fries and the rice were on point but the lemon potatoes were a bit of a disappointment. Was bland and the worst I have had. We saw other customers ordering the seafood. Their prawns were huge. We would definitely go back for their more dinner items. I love Greek food and love this place! I've had take out from here and have dined at the restaurant numerous times. This place gets crowded! Came with a group of 5 on a Wednesday night and we had to wait a hour for a table. Make sure you make reservations! They have an extensive menu with daily specials. It is pricier than other Greek restaurants but the quality is definitely better. I usually get the chicken platter that comes with a side of greek fries, salad and pita bread. Meze is a Greek restaurant with an inviting, jovial atmosphere. The decor and layout of the restaurant will make you feel like you're part of a large family dinner. My friends and I entered with high hopes, for some delicious Greek food after a few hours of touring the Christmas lights of Dyker. The restaurant was packed when we got there, and we weren't given an time estimate by the waiter. We probably waited about 30 minutes before we were seated. Then, we waited another 10 minutes for water and to have our orders taken. The highlight of the meal for me was the complimentary pita with olive oil. It was warm and soft, but I cautioned myself to save room for the Moussaka I had ordered. It is described as a Greek Casserole with baked eggplant, ground beef, topped with a cheese béchamel sauce and baked until golden brown. When it arrived, I eagerly cut myself a slice, but was instantly disappointed. It was almost flavorless. I couldn't taste any of the eggplant supposedly nestled in between the layers. The ground beef layer did not deliver the hearty meat juices I expected. I tried to douse it with some black pepper to save it, but eventually settled for eating a few bites with the accompanying Greek salad. My friends and I also shared an order of the Loukoumades, small donut holes filled with Nutella. These tasted ok, but I think they would have been better sprinkled with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. It was a busy Saturday night so maybe that's why the dishes fell short. My friends who ordered gyro platters did enjoy their meal so maybe their Moussaka is the only thing that needs work. read more

Mediterranean cuisine in my opinion is always on the pricier side but Meze in particular is a bit more expensive. My family and I decided to come here for an early Morher's Day celebration since we've always driven by but never been. The service was fantastic whether it was attentiveness from our waitress or just other waiters checking in and helping to clean up. You can tell the staff works as a team. The food was essentially good for the most part. We started with a combination platter of Tzatizki, hummus and garlic dip. I found all the dips to be full of flavor and the pita very soft. They offered us a second helping of pitas too since our party was large and finished quick with leftover dip to savor. I ordered the filet lemon sole stuffed with crab which I thought was pretty good except it felt very heavy. I could have shared it with someone and still have been very full, so I packed my other half to go. Out of all the dishes I think the New Zealand lamb chops were the most delicious. So moist, tender and not too salty. Fun fact: I don't even eat lamb and I enjoyed my one lamb from someone else's dish. Overall the experience was good but I wouldn't come back on a normal day due to high prices. read more

We had a great dinner at Meze right before checking out the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights! The atmosphere was lovely, full of rustic charm in an intimate tavern setting. They were able to accommodate our party of 5 without any wait, though the space soon filled up after us. Service was very friendly and hospitable, guiding us through their entire menu and during our whole meal. We started with the Grilled Octopus platter, which was superb! The slightly charred octopus was tender and meaty, with great flavors of olive oil and lemon. Mussels in a buttery wine sauce were perfectly briney and succulent, perfect for dipping the side of bread in. We got a variety of souvlaki platters, including Chicken, Beef, and Lamb, and all were well-marinated. The platters came with plenty of rice, pita, Athenian fries, and lemon potatoes on the side. Topped with plenty of feta, like the snow we're not getting this year! We rounded out dinner with double orders of Baby Lamb Chops, Grilled Branzino, and Zucchini Chips, and were singing their praises all the way to the Christmas lights! While any diner in town can turn out perfectly passable Greek food, it takes a dedicated Greek restaurant to fully dedicate their efforts to perfecting the pita, and slaying the slouvaki. Meze isn't quite there all the way, but its bright spots shine enough to merit choosing to come here instead of a greasy spoon diner. Where Meze really excels is in its selection of authentic Greek appetizers, namely the spreads and the flambeed cheese. By far my favorite was the Meze spread, mixing the salty goodness of feta cheese with a flavorful hit of lemon and the most luxurious olive oil to give the entire mix a smooth finish. The Saganaki, flambeed tableside, leaves a delicious taste in your mouth, with the hit of caramelized melted cheese being like heaven on Earth. The one place where Meze could pick their game up is on the spinach pie. While most are topped high with cheese and spinach, covered in a flaky hot crust, ours came out looking like half the spinach went missing between the kitchen and the table, and the filo crust had taken a steam in the sauna, coming out understuffed and barely crisp. Sadly when it comes to a Greek restaurants bread and butter, Meze falls short. Their lamb gyro platter, in addition to being a small portion for the price, comes out overcooked, with most pieces of meat crunchy and slightly dry. Combine that with the hard pieces of gristle that come off the meat makes this a sad attempt at what's usually a hard staple to drop the ball on. Service can be slow at times with wait staff who barely put the effort in to know the menu - when we asked what was in the 3 for all dip, we were given a bland rereading of the menu description itself. Greek cuisine is always overpriced, but Meze is particularly so. With musical instruments hung on the wall and a travel show with scenes from Greece on TV, this Greek restaurant makes you feel welcome. Servers are polite and servings are decent, with the one complaint being their forever increasing prices. Saganaki is fried kefalograviera cheese that gets lit up. It's cool to have your dish go in flames, but we didn't even realize that the lit up dish was ours until the flames went away and the plate was put on our table. The server lit the skillet up above our heads behind our table, most likely to keep everyone safe, but we could have enjoyed the presentation a lot more had we experienced it better. The kefalograviera was nice and salty, albeit a thin square slice for a whopping $14. Pass on this one. Greek chicken strips ($16) were nicely grilled with a tasty char on the outside. The strips came with pita bread and a meze dip that had tons of feta, scallions, tomatoes and green peppers. The dip was large and delicious. This dish is in the appetizers section; not sure why since it was more filling than our main, which I'll discuss next. Moussaka ($15) is a homemade casserole with ground beef, baked eggplant and bechamel sauce. Normally one of my favorite Greek dishes, the moussaka here was thin and lacked eggplant flavor. Upon dissecting the dish in hopes of finding the eggplant, my favorite ingredient, I was disappointed to see a thin spread of eggplant dip between the beef and bechamel sauce layers. Moussaka came with a large side salad, but I would have been okay with no side salad had the moussaka just been thicker. I liked the ambiance and enjoyed the dishes, but was shocked to see Manhattan prices without equivalent quality. All I'm saying is you could get a better moussaka and saganaki with less cash out of your pocket at Kiki's in Chinatown. read more

Here is the full Greek experience. The restaurant celebrates the culture in hospitable staff and decor, as well as the great dishes here. If you're convinced you're gyro platter at your local diner suffices, you're not even close. We started with the haloumi cheese with bread, and a plate of loukanika, the Greek sausage. Drizzling the bread with a little oil then paying the cheese across before each bite makes for this perfect bold cheese taste that you won't find in your grilled cheese at home. This with the sausage that was so flavorful, give it a few drops of lemon and the taste is unlike anything I've ever tried. The flavors here are consistent and follow through dish after dish. To be honest I did want to explore the more exotic items on the menu for my entree, but being short on time I asked for a suggestion and the gyro platter was just that. As a new yorker, you've had it before at a diner or halal cart and I will tell you there is no comparison. The lamb was so juicy, so authentic, and the tzatsiki took it to the next level. We went there Saturday night, surprisingly all packed since the restaurant isn't located in some busy neighborhood, and it's not known for Greek food in Dyker Height. People drive over just for it. The waiting time wasn't bad around 20 mins. We had spinach pie as appetizer, it was creamy and crispy. My bf ordered moussaka and I had the lamb gyro. Both of them were satisfying delish! Since I will be moving from sheepshead area soon, my boyfriend and I decided we should try to see what greek/mediterranean food is around us. This isn't super close but it is close enough with driving so we decided to try here. When we stepped in, the restaurant was spacious and we were greeted by the wait staff. It was a short wait since it was a late lunch. We ordered the platter - he had the lamb gyro and I had the pork souvlaki. The pork wasn't dry which is amazing! The platters were so huge that I couldn't finish. We subsequently went there with our friend and ordered the triple dip and we couldn't stop eating it with their pita. It was delicious. Meze has been amazingly consistent and consistently busy all through COVID. They cover the Greek classics well, with an emphasis on seafood. No matter which delivery service we use, the experience is good. Their salad is fresh, green, and not overly-vinagretted. which wilts the salad and makes it too tart. Theirs stays crisp and refreshing, a great base for their broiled protein mains. The fries have that mystical quality of somehow still being delicious after hitting room temperature. I don't understand, but I'm not complaining. The proteins are delicious as expected, but the real crown jewel is that tzaziki. Turkish places have a white sauce with a yogurt base, but the flavor doesn't come close. The dill and cucumber taste in a true tzaziki is long gone, but the garlic remains for a long time. As a huge garlic fan, I both love the taste and the health effects. It is one of the few things I eat that leave my mouth, throat, and esophagus into my tum humming with that garlic zing. read more

The waitress rolled her eyes at my friends and I while taking our order and I just.. I don't appreciate that. My friend hated it so much that she wanted to just get up at leave. But we decided to just stay and give it a chance. Throughout the night, I guess the waitress realized she shouldn't have done that and got a little better. I always pass by Meze on the way to my boyfriend's house and it just calls out to me every time. So one night I yelped the place and saw that they had my favorite pasticchio dish! My boyfriend and I decided to go try it out on a whim. When we got there, the place was PACKED. I put my name down and asked the waiter to give us a call when a table is ready. He was a super nice guy and called us like he promised. The interior is pretty small with a lot of tables so not much walking space. Had to squeeze through everyone having a good time and enjoying their meal to get to the back table. Everyone was talking so it was quite loud in there and the lights were dimly lit. The boyfriend got some chicken platter and I, of course, ordered pasticchio. When it came, I was soo disappointed just by the appearance. It looked very home cooked, a.k.a not appetizing. And then when I tasted it, it was like a knife struck my heart. It was so dry and bland and just not what I was hoping for. The only upside was the big portion but if it doesn't taste good why would I want to eat so much of it? My boyfriend's chicken was really burnt. I have been here twice. Once for my birthday celebration and once for a girls gathering. Both of the times I came, service and food was spectacular. We made reservations both times and by the time we got here, our table was all ready for us to be seated. Our waitresses were always very friendly and gave us suggestions on what food she really enjoyed. It's around a very quite area. Parking is relatively easy depending on what night you come. If you are new to Greek and Mediterranean food, this is the place to come! You can't go wrong! Environment is great for date nights, girls night out for dinner and for any occasions! Majority of the food that I ate and tried here was very delicious and flavorful. I can't forget how good their hummus dip was. I've been ordering here for years and their food is consistently good. Come try the lamb platter here. The lamb is cooked to perfection and with the Greek salad and fries, you'll either be extremely full or have lunch for the next day. Also a must try here is the grilled octopus. I came here with a large party, we made reservations in advance because we knew it was a small place. They were able to accommodate us, we had to wait a little bit though. After being seated, we sat for a while before they decided to take our food order. The appetizers came out pretty quickly but it took a while for our entrees to come out, which I guess is understandable because we were such a large party. Although I got my food about 10 minutes after everyone else because they made one less order. I did appreciate the honesty though. I tried the baked clams, crab cakes, lamb gyro platter, and the chicken souvlaki platter. I enjoyed the baked clams, the texture was a little mushy for a few clams. They were $15 for 8 of them, I guess that's pretty reasonable. The crab cakes weren't bad either for $15 as well. The lamb was pretty flavorful, not too salty like some places I tried. The chicken souvlaki wasn't bad, but one skewer was more dry than the other. I really enjoyed their tzaziki sauce, the flavor is pretty close to ones I've had in Greece. We had a large cake and they charged $1 per person to have it in the restaurant, I guess it's understandable since no one would want to order dessert after that. I did enjoy this place.
