Had a wonderful meal here the other night. Place is nestled in the middle of a residential block, its well known in the neighborhood as one of the best Greek food in Brooklyn. The Zucchini Fries were crispy and airy; I'd continued popping it into my mouth. I highly recommend the Baby Lamb Chops. Chops was seasoned and grilled perfectly, piled on top of an Arugula salad. The salad with its Fried Chick peas and balsamic Vinaigrette still makes me drool as I'm writing this review. The Spinach Feta Pie was also very flavorful and filling. Price is decent, for Greek food. The waitstaff walked around a couple of times to refill water and gave extra napkins. My favorite Greek place in Brooklyn! Huge portions without any compromise in quality. I tried the saganaki and the trio dip platter to start. The saganaki flaming cheese was amazing on some pita or just bread. For the dips, I tried the hummus, cheese, and eggplant, my favorite was the cheese but all of them were delicious and tasted homemade fresh for each plate. For my main course I had to try the lamb gyro platter and my girlfriend had the Chilean sea bass with some lemon potatoes. The sea bass was good no doubt but I enjoyed my gyro platter more then any gyro I had before. The lamb was flavorful and juicy while the tzatziki sauce was creamy and cooling. My family and I had a reservation here last Sunday at 2pm for my father's birthday. Upon walking in there seemed to be a big party of about 45 people seated. By 2:30pm all 8 of us were seated together. I was very upset that our reservation was not ready. It was extremely crowded and tight that I wondered why they didn't close the restaurant. Our waiter apologized for the wait and was very friendly. As appetizers, we ordered baked clams and 3 spreads which we devoured. Our meals took about an hour to come out - I assume because the kitchen had the big party of 45. The food was authentic and we all enjoyed it but because of the crowded space and volume we weren't really able to enjoy each other's company and have conversations. My 2 year old niece was getting restless since we didn't have much space and because we were there for such a long time. Our waiter asked me if I wanted them to sing happy birthday to my father so I picked a dessert that they brought out and sang. After that we asked for the check. We were charged for the small plate of French fries for my niece, the appetizers, our meals and the baklava for my father. In my opinion, I think the restaurant should have given us something on the house for the inconvenience. I would've been happy with a free dessert for the birthday boy! To me, that would've been good business. I understand that the waiter might not have had the authority to do so but I think something should've been done. We still tipped the waiter very well because it wasn't his fault that our food took so long; he did provide good service. I came here on a Friday night and boy was it packed. When I sat down, I noticed that they were very generous w the food portion. Also, they price is fair. You wouldn't be able to find a place that give you such a huge portion for the price. So, the grilled octopus was juicy and tender. It wasn't chewy at all. We also got this cheese dish where the waiter put it on fire. Definitely eat it while it's still hot. It taste a lot better. For entree, I got the lamb. I have high expectations for Greek restaurants because I am Greek and I frequently eat Greek food in Greece. The moussaka was not cooked the way it should be traditionally, there was not enough egg plant, just a lot of meat and bechamel sauce. I'm not sure what the standard grape leaves are supposed to be like, since I've only had it one other time before, but I feel like it shouldn't be hard...which this one was. It is not a question of what can be said its more of what can't be said..... You can't say the food is terrible You can't say the staff is inhospitable You can't say the atmosphere is dismal You can't say you will be unhappy or dissatisfied After eating at Meze numerous times. I'll tell you what you can say..... You can close your eyes and your sense of smell and your taste will be graciously rewarded with the country side of Greece. We decided to invite friends to join us for dinner. Of course our friends Foodies as much as we are. Fortunately and unfortunately my vices in life is FOOD and Meze is where I Can Get My FOOD On!!!!! We started with some Souroti Sparkling Mineral Water...perfectly chilled and then ordered a bottle of Pappas " Cabernet" which is from the base of Mt. Olympus. Of course being Sicilian, I'm biased to Italian wines...but in this case I was pleasantly surprised. A clean, crisp flavor of fruit tones and berries with an tantalizing close that will leave you open for more. We then ordered a dip and spread. This came with Hummus, Tzatziki and Eggplant Spread with pieces of warm pita brushed with Greek Olive Oil. A nice palate opener. Our go to has always been the Octopus, which is grilled and seasoned into melt in your mouth tender morsels of perfection. We then ordered our entres, Grilled Baby Lamb Chops and Swordfish. When it comes to Lamb Chops, Meze delivers. The funny thing is that they serve it with a steak knife....I guess that would work if you have the time to tease your palate. I, on the other hand, know of no other way to eat these than with my hands. After all they do come with riblet handles. Perfect for the task at hand.....Culinary Delight. My wife ordered the Swordfish. It looked and smelled amazing. It was also grilled with some herbs and olive oil. In most cases the simplest ingredients produce the best results. We ended the night with their famous Baklava Cheesecake......the name says it all and Galaktoboureko, a custard filled dessert covered in honey soaked phyllo dough....as Borat would say, " Wow, wow, wee wah....." As for me I couldn't leave with having a double Greek coffee.... just the right ending to a great meal. Came here on a Saturday night. Reasonable wait time since it was very busy. Stuffed calamari was excellent. Place was clean with a cozy environment. Had the brozinino with broccoli rabe, yum! He had the mousaka and that was delicious! The only reason why they're getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because when asked if the rice pudding was homemade, the waiter said yes. But, as soon as I look up I see a kozy shack jar on the counter (that's very disappointing). The vibe of the place was very nice. I ordered delivery from Meze on a Saturday night and my rating pretty much describes the order - A OK. It wasn't anything spectacular - certainly not the best Greek I've ever had - but it was solid. I had the Gyro Platter with an extra Tzatziki, total came out to be around $19 including tip. Kind of pricey - but I did end up getting two meals from it so I suppose it wasn't too bad. The gyro meat was a bit dry but the tzatziki made up for it. I wish there were more pita though, cause i definitely had more meat than pita, which is always a bummer for me. I LOVE pita. Would I order from Meze again? Maybe, but my cousin just recently recommended another Greek restaurant in the area so I might give them a try first. Time will tell! read more

I was surprised that there was a Greek restaurant at this location because this part of Bensonhurst lacked many dining options when I used to live in this area. The restaurant was very cozy and tables spread out enough to be comfortable. Restaurant was empty when we arrived at noon, but was filled with many patrons after we finished our meal. I ordered a pork and lamb gyro souvlaki platter $13.95. The platter was big. I enjoyed the lamb more than the pork. The lamb was very flavorful. Fyi the pork and chicken were on skewers. The pork was a bit tough and dry. My friend who had the chicken skewer thought that was too dry also. I already expected it since it is chargrilled. I loved the tzatsiki dip; it was very refreshing and complimented the lamb. The three for all dip platter $14.95 was interesting. The Tarama caviar spread was a bit fishy but tasty. The other two spreads were ok. I don't normally eat feta cheese so I don't have a base of reference but I thought the tyrokafteri spread just tasted plain. Overall it was an enjoyable meal. Nice local place for authentic Greek food. The ambiance and decor makes it very welcoming to have a long, enjoyable dinner. Wait staff was very friendly and informative (about the specials). We started off with the Dip Sampler. The tzatziki was okay but the eggplant dip was excellent. Unfortunately, I didn't care much for the hummus. The dips came with warm pita (endless supply-lol). The Char-Grilled Squid was tender and flavorful. For sharing, we ordered the Classic Greek Salad which was average but quite frankly, we didn't even have to order that. A side salad compliments most of the entrees. The gyro platter was delish especially when sandwiched between hot pita bread and tzatziki sauce. The feta cheese fries (side to the gyro) were pretty yummy. To me, the absolute best dish of the night was the Moussaka. The top layer looks like fluffy mashed potatoes but it's a cheese sauce? OMG--it was absolutely AMAZING! That top layer practically melts in your mouth as you taste the flavors of the eggpland and meat. Not only was it delicious but it was a humungo piece. Needless to say, we ordered too much food. Portions are somewhat generous but the pricing is a bit high. Only giving it 3 stars rather than the 4 because of the pricing. Saturday, 12/17/16 7:30 pm Meze was such a nice find and I look forward to returning in the future! I was going to see the Dyker Heights Christmas lights for the second year in a row. Last year, I did not research dinner spots before and let me just say, this area of Brooklyn does not have many spots grouped together for the choosing. This year, I was smarter and researched and chose Meze. Very happy I did. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted happily and walked to a table. The waiter recommended some delicious specials and we ended up choosing the special that was calamari stuffed with this amazing creamy spicy cheese for an app along with grape leaves. The calamari was so good, it was only halfway through eating that I realized I should take a pic. The grape leaves were just okay but oh man, that calamari! All of this, along with the free bread was filling so when the entrees came, I actually couldn't finish it. I got the gyro platter and my friend got the branzino. Food is very good here and not overpriced. I had Eggplant Moussaka which generally known to be a very rich dish and if it's not cooked probably often feels heavy but this one felt so light, airy and delicious. It was one of the best moussaka I ever had. Also ordered grilled Greek cheese Saganaki for a starter and it was just as delicious. Have to mention that everyone in Meze Restaurant was so friendly, nice and kind. They set an outdoors table for me with heaters to make sure I wasn't cold. Definitely will be back to Meze Restaurant. We picked this place looking for good grilled fish. Meze didn't disappoint. For appetizers, zucchini chips were a favorite, as well as the soft shell crabs. We tried striped sea bass and red snapper and both were delicious and crispy. A nice surprise was a lamb dish - lamb frikase. The waiter recommended it, and it was good. Traditional Greek fare in Dyker that does not disappoint. I've been here quite a few times on a Saturday evening and it's usually a full house. The grilled octopus is pricey, but the portion is completely worth it. The taramasalata spread is divine and if you order it on its own, the portion is huge and comes with a VERY generous serving of pita. This isn't your typical Greek take out - it's the kind you come in to enjoy with a glass of wine and good company, but don't let that deter you from ordering for delivery. Delivery is fast and they offer the option to order on Yelp or Seamless. I always order my dishes without dairy (which means no feta, sadly) and they have always been attentive to this. Astoria is typically known for having the best traditional Greek food so I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this place one Sunday evening. My family and I were having a belated Father's Day dinner. Our party of 4 got here around 7pm on a Sunday and were seated immediately. We ordered the grilled octopus and eggplant dip as our appetizers. For our entrees, we split a lamb gyro platter, chicken souvlaki platter, mussels with linguine, and a baked fillet of sole stuffed with crabmeat. The octopus was DELICIOUS, grilled perfectly so that it's just the right balance of chewy and tender. The eggplant dip was good too. My lamb gyro plate was heaped with lamb, pita bread, Greek fries, and salad. I couldn't even finish the whole thing. Also really good was the baked fillet of sole. It's pretty heavy when stuffed with the crabmeat but definitely worth trying and sharing with people. We also split a bottle of Greek white wine. It paired perfectly with the fish and mussels. As someone who loves great Greek food, the easy choice is always to go to Astoria. However I was lucky enough to come across this wonderful establishment in Brooklyn, and it did not disappoint! Our meal consisted of a fresh and vibrant Greek salad, pan fried soft shell crabs that were really tasty, a wonderfully flaky spinach pie, and various other seafoods. For my main dish, I enjoyed the baby lamb chops while some others opted for the equally delicious tender veal that came in a tomatoes sauce over orzo. The desserts were fantastic as well. First of all the employees make you feel at home. So pleasant and so available to serve you. Their food is so delicious. I could go on and on and tell you about each single one item but yet it's faster to tell you what is not good other than and that is nothing because everything is absolutely delicious! Each table has enough space between each other and you really are able to speak to your partner and understand each other without having the table next to you being overly loud. My koumbara (Maid of Honor), Matron of Honor and mom just threw me the most incredible surprise bridal shower at Meze. I cannot stop raving at how perfect it was. The exposed brick walls, tin ceilings and soft Greek music playing in the background really set the tone for the afternoon. The staff were at our beck and call, making every single person feel taken care of. When the groom walked in to bring me flowers and the greet the guests, they immediately sat him down, served him food and brought on the beers! He said they treated him like royalty. Every single guest raved about how delicious the food was (Greek and non Greek-alike)! I can't stop talking about how beautiful it was and what a nice time we had there. I would highly recommend Meze for a bridal shower (or any other occasion). I want to go back with my fiance to have a nice quiet meal and really enjoy that food again! I always order saganaki (well done so it has so charred pieces of cheese), horiatiki salad, the dip trio (without tsatsiki and with tyrokafteri instead), the octopus (always tender and always delicious with just the right amount of char), a whole bronzino (filet that beast yourself for a more rewarding experience), the bifteki (hope you like garlic cuz it's chock full of it and it's oh so good), and a few other things that I can't think of at the moment. Listen, let's cut to the chase. Stop going to Astoria. Come to Dyker Heights, walk into Meze, enjoy the olive bread with olive oil, order a glass of Dimitra wine, order the food I mentioned above, and finish off with some galaktoboureko for dessert.
