My husband and I went to meet some friends here last night . Being from NY I love diners but since coming to Virginia you don't find them not yummy like NY. This diner did not I will say it again did not disappoint! When reading the reviews everyone raged about the waffles and chicken so I wanted to try something else I ordered the turkey meal and my husband ordered the meatloaf and my friends ordered the chicken and waffles. The meal came with sauté veggies mashed potatoes and slices of turkey I was concerned about the brown gravy cause some brown gravy is just that brown no flavor. But this meal was fantastic sooo good oh came with small baguette and I used that to soak up the gravy in my plate (no shame) was that good!! And the meat loaf was fantastic too I would recommend this place five stars Service was spot on any mistakes with the food fixed ASAP and I will be back!! Well, can't beat a good breakfast with the family. However, a great breakfast out is a winner. Metro Diner was a find on yelp. Twins ordered chicken and waffles, Hubs the corned beef hash and little ol me the avocado toast and eggs. Dana was our server and she was friendly and extra patient when explaining the special dip for the chicken-so good! Try it out if you are in the area. Cute spot with outdoor seating but, on my first visit, I was not impressed. The french toast was bland and mushy, I was given cheese eggs with a random piece of slice cheese just slapped on top (barely melted), undercooked sausage links, and I do believe that since I sent my items back, the young lady who was my waitress decided I was not worth offering great service to any longer. I apologized for sending the food back, and she kept saying "you're fine" but left me waiting longer and longer throughout my time there. I had to ask for utensils, napkins, and condiments several times. She also left the plate of old food that I did not want on the table and I had to, again, request my food be replaced and cooked properly. She also charged me for the french toast I did not eat. I had to talk to a manager and have the ticket redone. The server said "Oh, I forgot." Just to prove a point, I gave her a $10 tip for what ended up being a subpar experience that I was almost charged $25 for. (The manager adjusted to $10 after I alerted her to the discrepancy). The waitress took the $10 tip very nonchalantly as if she deserved it. I instantly regretted giving it but I felt like I'd be stereotyped. I will admit, the mimosas are ok for $2.99 and the corned beef hash is good. Just stick to the basics when ordering food here and don't expect a true brunch experience. I'm really starting to give up on the food/dining scene in Hampton Roads. You do better cooking at home or hosting dining parties on your own. Maybe get a private chef, travel a few hours out of town or just MOVE. read more

1st time visit, today my son & I had brunch. Customer service was phenomenal, everyone seems to be very nice, food served quickly and temp was great ...small an busy but great atmosphere. As for the taste of the food...ummm their work to be done. We order the pancakes that were thin on ends and thick and pasty in middle, toast very hard & crunchy . I ordered the meat lover omelette it was NOT omelette (sausage links cut too big, bacon crumbs and the cheese was a hunk in one spot) so when I unflap the egg everything was separate...that's not an omelette that's good inside a egg. I took the sausage & bacon out mixed it with my grits (I'm from the country ) and just had grits, eggs, bacon and crunchy toast left the cheese on side of the plate. I've been here twice and the service has always been amazing. The menu is a wide variety of options. Personally I've tried the monte cristo which was very good. The French fries were very good as well. The second time I went it I got the three cheese grilled cheese with tomato bisque soup. My mom got the monte cristo and even though the soup and sandwich was very good I envied mom. My wife got a hamburger here and she said it was the best burger she ever had. We went to get some breakfast for Mother's Day. They were super busy....which is awesome with the quarantine shut down. We ordered on the phone and we were quoted 40 minutes...we waited 90 minutes in the parking lot.....still not a big deal, total understandable. The lady that was working the parking lot was super friendly and apologetic but the food had definitely been sitting...eggs were cold, hash browns didn't seem cooked all the way and pancakes were tough and chewy....breakfast seems like it would be tricky to execute as carry out food. My first trip to Metro diner. The service was awesome and the food was amazing. I had the blackboard special today. Chorizo Eggs Benedict. One word...AMAZEBALLS!!!! Our server was Amira and she handled our group of nine like a champ....kids and all!! I can't wait for you to open in Virginia Beach so I can become a regular! I will add though, the Avocado Toast needs a bit of work. Sadly, it wasn't very fresh and it was evident by the color and taste. Everything else though, amazing!!! The customer service at the Metro Diner is fast and friendly, the cleanliness of the restaurant is impeccable, the portions (of the food) are big *you won't be able to eat it all*, and the taste of the food is utterly delicious. The Metro Diner crew has never disappointed me yet. However, my Dad believes that it's a little costly. I have been three times now to the Metro Diner. I was there for their soft opening and have to say after going three times (twice for breakfast and once for dinner) that they're pretty superb. Both times I went for breakfast I got the biscuits and sausage gravy and both times it came out hot and delicious. For dinner my fiancé and I tried the chicken tenders and the fried chicken. Both were great and the sides were pretty awesome (the mac and cheese and fries were a good choice). All three times the service was excellent and even though they had been open for two days they weren't beating me over the head with questions on service and how we liked everything. Some may want that but me personally I enjoy eating my food without a million employees coming up to me with the same rehearsed question. All in all I highly recommend trying the soon to be Suffolk local favorite. read more

Came for breakfast and the first thing I noticed was that this restaurant is spotless. The waitress was incredibly sweet and attentive. I had the spicy honey fried chicken on a biscuit with a side of cheddar grits and a mango sweet tea (super healthy way to start the day but I was feeling like digging into these new southern roots). The waitress suggested the sauce on the side which I was thankful for bc it had way more kick than I anticipated but was delicious! The grits were the perfect mix of smooth and gritty for me and the sweet tea was...sweet. Everyone in my party (5 adults and 3 kids) was very pleased with their order and we all left full and happy. When I received it there was no raspberry preserves or confectioners sugar; just a fried ham, turkey, cheese and mostly sourdough bread sandwich. The homemade chips were over done and hard. The hamburger was just ok- fries came out warm but soggy - kinda disappointing but there are tons of other items on the menu to try.
