I always have a great meal at Holland's. I hadn't dined in recently so this was a nice treat. I had the baked chicken, which is their Thursday special. It was a delicious as always. I visited Hollands on my way out of Suffolk. The vibe of the place is homey and comfortable. It was the Saturday of Easter weekend and they were doing lots of catering orders to-go. I didn't feel like anyone behind the counter was especially excited about taking my order. It was 10:45 am so I asked if it was too early to get a hot dog and I got a head shake, "no." So I ordered a hot dog and fries. The person at the registers went through a number a toppings and had me answer "yes/no" to each. I ended up with a chili cheese hot dog with mustard. The order came quickly. Two things struck me right away. The chili cheese dog was served with mustard packets on the side and the fries looked terribly undercooked. They didn't have any color on them and, when you picked one up, it immediately flopped over instead of holding its shape. The hot dog was good. I always appreciate a toasted bun. I do wish they had put the mustard on instead of giving me the packets. The fries got eaten after some generous reasoning. Overall my experience was ok. It seemed like regulars there and folks picking up catering got lots of love/attention that I definitely didn't receive. read more

Ate here recently after having folks recommend it to us. My wife and I both had cheeseburgers with fries for lunch. The food was good and flavorful. The setup is a bit unique. You come in, grab a menu, and order while standing at the counter. This seems to be the new way a lot of restaurants are leaning, but I don't care for it. You're expected to make a quick decision (in some cases) on a food choice and this isn't a drive thru! Anyway, the burgers were good, but I'd rather see crinkle cut fries. We actually found this place by accident. I'm glad we did. This is a small, cozy restaurant. The ladies at the counter were very nice. I got the 2 meat club and my friend got catfish and potato salad. My meal was very good. The bacon was especially good. My friend enjoyed his catfish also. The star of the meal was the potato salad. Not everyone can make a good potato salad. This is was sooooo good. Had I not been traveling all day, I would've gotten some to go! They also had several cakes and pies. This place is a hidden gem in downtown! The staff was super friendly, and the restaurant was very clean. The prices are really good as well. The chicken sandwich was a bit tough to be honest but the breading was really good, and the fries were delicious. The only other knock was they don't make their own ranch! It was just packaged ranch. When you walk in you go to the register and order / pay before you get your food, then they deliver it to your table this took a sec for me to get but makes sense in retrospect. This was a nice little spot to stop at for a mid morning breakfast. It's very rustic and homey and they had Emerill playing on one of the TVs non stop which I loved. I was a bit confused at first on how to order, but the cashier was super nice and explained to me how things work. All of the girls working were very sweet and helpful. The turkey bacon was delicious, and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The pancakes were lovely with a nice hint of spice to them (cinnamon I think). I was staying in Downtown Suffolk overnight with my best friend for a wedding and we decided to pop into Holland's for a quick brunch before heading home. Walking in we were really digging the rustic, yet modern décor. After looking over the menu I decided on ordering "The Hangover Burger" topped with country ham, bacon, fried egg, jalepeño, chili, and pimento cheese. It was so good. Admittedly, I would've preferred the beef patty to have a little more seasoning; however, the flavor profile of the chili mixed with the pimento cheese on top of the burger was FIRE and gave it plenty of flavor. I was also a big fan of the battered fries that came on the side; furthermore, I loved the fact that they serve their sides of ranch (and I assume other sauces) in metal 1/4 measuring cups and that soft drinks come in mason jars. Little cutesy touches like that always make dining out that much more enjoyable. Our waitress Amanda was very nice and accommodating and checked on us regularly throughout our meal with a positive attitude. Overall, Holland's serves up delicious food with a homey feel and my friend and I had quite a pleasant experience. read more

Haven't been to Holland in a while decided to give it a shot. It's a walk up counter to order and get a number and pick a table. Ordered the prime rib sandwich (medium) with onion rings. Found a table sat down, waited for our food. The chef came out of the kitchen and yelled out. Do I lettuce and tomatoes on that prime rib sandwich, which I said no. When the food was brought out the chef placed it on the table and walked away. Decided to cut the sandwich in half only to discover it was extremely rare, kinda on the raw side. Not once did anybody come over to follow up on our food, though they stood at a table talking to someone who I believe was maybe a family member. after waiting 20 minutes I had to physically take the sandwich up to the bar and send it back to the kitchen. I never send food back but this was gonna make me sick eating raw meat. So they offered me something else or a dessert which I declined it just didn't seem like they cared. No offer of a refund, and no apology as I exited the premises. Again, again, still standing at the table conversing with a couple. Will I return? Questionable. read more

Holland's was a pleasant surprise for us. I had seen the sign outside when venturing around downtown but never had the chance to stop in. My wife and I went here one Monday for lunch and we had a great time. The establishment is very modern and pretty, the service was friendly, the mood was active and lively, and the food was delicious. Ordering took us a moment to figure out since there was a booklet for a menu and a wall with specials written on it and no clear direction as to whether we head to the bar or the side counter. Once another patron pointed us over to the counter on the left, we were greeted by an employee and then ready to go! We did have an issue with the meal since my fried chicken was still pink in the middle, but once I informed the server, she brought a fresh order out quickly and apologetically. I would have given it to you five stars but they were out of a lot of things which was a bit disappointing. They do seem to have quite a variety on their menu though normally... guess it being Saturday, they were out of things like shrimp n grits and other items. They seem to have so many things on their menu that, even though they were out of some things, I could still find something to eat. Ate brunch there today and was pleasantly surprised. I had the hangover burger and it was delicious. Service was fantastic and they sell sweets, breads and other fun foods. There is even a full bar if that's your thing. I think the brunch drink on Sunday was a $3 mimosa. 10/10, we will visit again. read more

Disappointing. Waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive, despite not many people there. Seemed like they were prioritizing take out orders. Food was mediocre at best. They only have decaf coffee but did not tell us this until we had already ordered and paid. Also 20 minutes after we paid they told us a certain food item was not available and did not offer us a refund. No refills on drinks offered. Had to pay 50 cents for each cup of tap water. Pancakes were pretty good, but everything else we sampled was not done well. Grits were abhorrent. read more

I have been in Holland's a couple of times for lunch. I was in Suffolk working and was referred to the place from one of the locals. The lunch is reasonably priced at about $10.00 or so and comes with a meat, two sides, roll & cake. Plenty of food for sure. I had the hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and beans on day one and pork chops , mashed potatoes & butter beans on day 2. Had to have the mashed potatoes both days made from scratch not instant. Taste like home and as you may see in the pic has a country kitchen look to it as well. They also do catering and sell items by the lb. will likely stop again before my job is complete. read more

Our waitress deserves a better restaurant. The food was ok certainly not worth the price. Only two waitresses and one person in the kitchen. Food was not cooked as ordered. The place was not full at all and it took over an hour to get our food, which came out wrong. Don't waste your time or money on this place. read more

This was our first time at Holland's and will not be our last. We had the Baked Chicken special which came with 2 sides and a surprise piece of cake. I had yams and cabbage and my husband had yams and black eyed peas. The chicken was served over corn bread dressing. It was all AMAZING! They are not afraid of pork fat and for that I am thankful. I don't know how they got such delicious crispy edges on the dressing and the chicken was fall off the bone. We will be back! read more

Had a wonderful brunch here on Saturday morning. Service was friendly, facility was spotless, parking was easy and the western omelet was fabulous! Forget about bacon or sausage - go for the ham. It's the real deal, country ham - just the right degree of saltiness. Mom had the grilled cheese with bacon and declared it "delicious."
